Raiders re-sign Barnes

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, March 21st, 2012 at 10:53 am in Oakland Raiders.

Khalif Barnes has joined Cooper Carlisle as incumbent offensive linemen welcomed back into the fold under new coach Dennis Allen, Barnes told Bay Area News Group on Wednesday.
Barnes re-signed with the Raiders on Wednesday, giving the Raiders the luxury of going with four of the five starters from last year’s team — Jared Veldheer, Stefen Wisniewski, Carlisle and Barnes. Center Samson Satele is the only one who won’t be back.
Barnes, who turns 30 next month, started all 16 games at right offensive tackle last season and played well enough for Allen to want him back for another season.
Barnes has the inside track to keeping the job, though it’s likely that the Raiders will take a long look at youngsters Bruce Campbell and Joseph Barksdale, too.
Barnes is a seven-year pro who has the versatility to play either tackle spot, as well as guard. He spent his first four NFL seasons at left tackle with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Agreed 100%… This guy is a penalty not waiting to happen, it allways happens…

  13. DMAC Says:

I’m in the minority, but I thought Barnes wasn’t too bad. He just needs to fix them stupid ass penalties. Proper coaching may get it done.

  14. JLofty Says:

Too bad about Satele, I thought he played well for us mostly. Oh well, over that already!
Get a center Reg, keep Wiz beast at LG. He seems to play better there. At least so far…in his rookie year….with not much training camp to speak of…

ALTHOUGH BRONCOS HAVE DRAFTED HORRIBLY OVER THE PAST 4-5 SEASONS, THEY ACTUALLY MADE OUT PRETTY WELL WITH THE TEBOW TRADE. PLENTY OF OPTIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE 4TH ROUND. LETS HOPE THIS TURNS OUT TO BE ANOTHER DRAFT PICK THEY GET WRONG!

  20. JLofty Says:

JLofty does not like Kaspleef’s propensity to start falsely. Didn’t that guy have like 20 FS penalties last year?

How do you figure Wiz is an upgrade at center? He didn’t perform that well there when he played the position.

I am hoping that he can adjust to it, but Hue thought he could, and it didn’t pan out as people had hoped. Maybe he just needs more time there? Or maybe his skills really are better used at guard?

  28. Dakota Says:

Re-signing Barnes seems reasonable. He’s not a great O tackle but good enough as a backup and good enough to start while developing a gem in the rough. We can’t gut our entire inventory of O-linemen with no reserves.

Loss of Satele seems reasonable too. Satele was too small, got stood up and pushed back consistently and had too many penalites. We need to develop one of our youngters to become a franchise center.

Last year our OL had low sacks & good run blocking but high penalties. Not bad. I think a key was bringing a lot of decent players in to compete best start worst cut.

    I’m cool with it!

    I second that opinion.
The least confortable cut (IMO)on that list would be CJ. I think the groin injuries that were apparent in the Buffalo game and kept him out were not fully healed when he bagan playing again. Add the sister murder and you have a defeated person…
I think CJ was a solid backup, not a dependable starter.

Ok, so I guess the GM agreed with the 3 or 4 of us who said Barnes needs to be brought back if the truly the only other option was Barksdale.
Are people holding Veldheer to the same penalty standards? You do realize he had just as many penalties as Barnes AND they were the holding types instead of simple 5 yard false starts.
Cmon now … Be fair, lol.

Stop promoting Barnes. You People are making me sick!
    Barnes?!
    Should we bring Harris too?

    Dude, check it out
Preseason 2011, 1st game, 1st quarter, Barnes committed like 3 false starts in 4 plays.
Was at best, false start waiting to end
Now at worst false start waiting to happen
    Can’t say that’s not improvement

Khalif Barnes 2011 Raiders RT sacks allowed 3.5 for 15.5 yards; penalties 11 false start 6 holds 3 16 games started. Not bad stats
Last year our OL had low sacks & good run blocking but high penalties. Not bad. I think a key was bringing a lot of decent players in to compete best start worst cut.
Khalif less holds than most of our OLs in 2011 sad to say
