Raiders re-sign Barnes

Khalif Barnes has joined Cooper Carlisle as incumbent offensive linemen welcomed back into the fold under new coach Dennis Allen, Barnes told Bay Area News Group on Wednesday.
Barnes re-signed with the Raiders on Wednesday, giving the Raiders the luxury of going with four of the five starters from last year’s team — Jared Veldheer, Stefen Wisniewski, Carlisle and Barnes. Center Samson Satele is the only one who won’t be back.
Barnes, who turns 30 next month, started all 16 games at right offensive tackle last season and played well enough for Allen to want him back for another season.
Barnes has the inside track to keeping the job, though it’s likely that the Raiders will take a long look at youngsters Bruce Campbell and Joseph Barksdale, too.
Barnes is a seven-year pro who has the versatility to play either tackle spot, as well as guard. He spent his first four NFL seasons at left tackle with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Donovan’s been discounted and disrespected his whole career. Would rather have him and his ability than almost any other available qb

    Raiders OLine:

    Vehldeer Barnes Wisniewski Brisiel Barksdale

Campbell, Carlisle, 1 rookie drafted, 1 udfa as back ups.

Campbell could start at RT or LG.

Mcnabb has always been Inaccurate and now he’s out of shape and old….Why would we want that?

  • Dakota

We can’t afford a big-name QB as our backup. Sorry CT….besides, whenever your starter goes down you are screwed….no matter who the backup QB is.

Ok file this Barnes signing in as a WTF moment but whatever!

    Veld, Briesel, Wiz, Carlisle, Barnes/Barksdale.

Nobody was more responsible for killing drives than Barnes last year.

I see Barnes as a cheap signing that will compete for the startin line up but will get beaten out by Barksdale…It’ll be good depth..

The only legitimately #2 qb, just signed with Chicago.

And the audio guy catches this:

Namath slurring to Cromartie….”You are soooo pretty, I wanna kiss you…..” Cromartie replying, “Why not, at least I can’t knock you up Joe, go for it.” And Rex chiming in, “Is it okay if I rub your guys’ feet while you kiss?!?!” And Tebow looking on in shock screaming “JESUS SAVES! JESUS SAVES!”

Here’s hoping Barksdale can solidify his tenuous hold on the starting RT spot and push Barnes to the unemployment line.

  • DMAC

Porter or Trufant would be nice

  • luvmarvhub

DMAC, we *have* a great left guard: his name is Stefan Wiz.

Perhaps there’s something up Reggie’s sleeve? Or Allen’s, but am not sure.

  • luvmarvhub

ESPN has a good piece on how the Jets will use Tebow in the Sparano wildcat–only use him in that package, not as a number 2 qb fighting for the starting role.

If so, that could really work, as long as it’s explained to Tebow, that’s his role and that he is NOT a back-up quarterback for them.

Nothing wrong with having options! I am sure Reggie would love to see one of the two young guys take the starting RT spot, but if they fall on their faces, then at least Barnes is serviceable….and if they do win the job, then Barnes can backup both guard and tackle spots.

Up to now, RegMac is doing everything I hoped he wouldn’t do. Nothing he has done makes any football sense, it may save cash, but it will doom the team for the next year.
Re-signing Barnes is just a bad mistake, as well as keeping a lot of the old trash. Here I was hoping RegMac would make things better, it looks like he’s intent on getting a high draft choice for next year, too bad.
Hard to see the other AFC teams improving their rosters, while the Raiders seem to be stuck in the mud with RegMac.

As I understand it, Dennis Allen plans on implementing a Full Metal Jacket-style soap party beating during training camp for any player who commits a penalty during practice:

RAIDERS SIGN PACKERS DB PATRICK LEE

  • Lowdown_in_Beijing

“Raiders agreed to terms with CB Patrick Lee, formerly of the Packers, on a one-year contract.

The 28-year-old is a failed former second-round pick out of Auburn, but he did rack up nine special teams tackles in Green Bay last year. Familiar with new GM Reggie McKenzie, Lee will compete for a spot in sub-packages with Oakland”

  • http://www.addictedtoquack.com RaiderDuck

It’s being reported that we just signed Pat Lee at CB.
