Satele signs with Colts
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, March 21st, 2012 at 9:32 am in Oakland Raiders.
Center Samson Satele, the Raiders starter for the better part of the last three seasons, has signed with the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent, the club announced.
Satele never seemed to be in Oakland’s plans after the return to zone blocking, a system he struggled with initially his first year with the Raiders.
The backup center for Oakland last year was Stefen Wisniewski. There has been no stated intention to move Wisniewski to center this season. Oakland re-signed starting guard Cooper Carlisle and also added Houston’s Mike Brisiel as a free agent, although both play right guard.
Satele is facing legal trouble in Hawaii from a recent arrest for disorderly conduct.

Eagles acquired MLB DeMeco Ryans from the Texans in exchange for a 2012 fourth-round pick.
The teams will also exchange third-round picks, with the Eagles moving back 12 spots. A Pro Bowl middle linebacker early in his career, Ryans wasn’t was as suited to the weak-side interior in Wade Phillips 3-4 scheme. After a slow start in returning from Achilles surgery, Ryans came on stronger late in the season. He fills a major need in Philadelphia, where Andy Reid’s squad has long been in need of a three-down tackling machine in the middle. Jamar Chaney (neck surgery) will move back outside. Considering Ryans $5.9 million salary, the Texans’ haul was as much as could reasonably be expected.

Reggie!!!!!!!!!!!????????
Why didn’t you pull the trigger on this deal?
A 4th rounder?
Ryans would be an instant upgrade to Romac.
I guess DA thinks he can turn Romac into a player.

I don’t give a damn if we didn’t have a 4th rounder. The Texans just basically gave Ryans away in a possible cap move. He would of been stout in the middle. If Reggie really wanted him, he could of made a nice little unexpensive package deal to aquire him.

Unlike some other teams, the Jets don’t need to sell tickets. I seriously doubt Tebow will improve Sanchez’ play. Sanchez will always be an up and down qb and nothing all that special.
Now, if they convert Tebow to another position, I’ll applaud that. I admire the team that tries to take his talent and use it properly. I can see him playing more than one position in certain situations.

What’s good for one is good for the other: coaches, management…what about the players who willingly participated in the bounty program? Goodell needs to level punishment at them too. They have their names. A soldier that obeys an illegal command is subject to court martial and punishment. These guys knew what they were doing was, under NFL rules, not permitted.

Who is worth keeping?
Unrestricted Free Agents
• OT Khalif Barnes was among the team leaders in penalties last season and is not a lock to return although he was a starter.
• LB Darryl Blackstock was a backup middle linebacker brought aboard because of his familiarity with defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan, who is no longer on staff.
• QB Kyle Boller flamed out in his only start before Carson Palmer was acquired and is not a fit for offensive coordinator Greg Knapp’s offense.
• RB Michael Bush had free-agent visits scheduled with the Bengals and Bears and it’s doubtful he would be in the Raiders’ price range to return.
• SS Matt Giordano led the Raiders with five interceptions and became a defensive leader although that was with the old defensive staff. Also sucks in coverage or open field tackling.
• LB Quentin Groves, replaced by Aaron Curry early in the season, threw himself into special teams work and is hoping to return.
• OT Stephon Heyer was a reserve at tackle and guard at a high salary, would have to take less and fit in to a zone blocking scheme.
• WR T.J. Housmandzadeh was brought aboard by Hue Jackson, looked a step slow and likely isn’t in the plans of the new regime.
• DE Jarvis Moss was injury prone last season and was a favorite of the late owner Al Davis, meaning he could be looking for work.
• C Samson Satele has started for the past three seasons, did his best work in gap and power schemes and could be phased out.
• CB Lito Sheppard was signed early in the season and immediately moved ahead of rookies Chimdi Chekwa and DeMarcus Van Dyke, but struggled at the end of the season.

Rams DC Gregg Williams has been suspended indefinitely for his role in the Saints bounty scandal.
He’s out for at least the 2012 season. Commissioner Roger Goodell will review his case next offseason and consider reinstatement. Williams received the harshest punishment, as he instituted the program in New Orleans after similar systems in Washington and Buffalo. Assistant head coach Dave McGinnis, formerly the Cardinals’ coach and coordinator, is expected to take over as defensive boss.

Here you go Jemeel McClain fans:
Baltimore Ravens inside linebacker Jameel McClain is a classic example of thinking that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. After being an undrafted free agent out of the University of Syracuse in 2008, McClain was the only undrafted rookie to make the Ravens roster. By 2010 he became the starter and lines up next to Ray Lewis as the team’s two starting inside linebackers.
When the opportunity to hit the open market arose, McClain had visions of a huge paycheck as the next great Ravens linebacker to hit it big on free agency. For a while, it looked like he might just get that lump sum of cash, as he was brought in for a visit by the Denver Broncos, who had two free agent inside linebackers on the open market as well.
Unfortunately for McClain, both Joe Mays and Wesley Woodyard re-signed with the Broncos recently. Both guys are four-year veterans like McClain but their familiarity with the defense and chemistry as returning veterans trumped whatever interest the Broncos apparently had in McClain.
March 21st, 2012 at 10:20 am
Saints coach Sean Payton has been one year for his role in the “bounty” scandal.
Commissioner Roger Goodell brought the hammer down, as expected. Perhaps just as debilitating, the Saints will lose second-round picks in each of the next two years; they won’t draft before the third round next month. GM Mickey Loomis has been suspended eight games and fined $500,000 while the franchise has been fined an additional $500,000. Assistant coach Joe Vitt is suspended six games, likely leaving DC Steve Spagnuolo as interim head coach. OC Pete Carmichael gained valuable experience calling plays during the team’s explosive late-season run, though the harsh discipline removes the Saints as favorites in the NFC South this season. Players, such as MLB Jonathan Vilma, are still facing potential discipline as well.
