Raiders get picks in 3rd, 4th, 5th rounds

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, March 26th, 2012 at 1:25 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders significantly added to their draft Monday with the announcement at the NFL owner’s meetings they would receiver compensatory selections in the third, fourth and fifth rounds.

Oakland’s picks, as announced on its Twitter account, are No. 95, No 129 and No. 168 overall.

The Raiders had picks in only the fifth and sixth rounds before compensatory picks were announced.

Compensatory picks come at the end of the round around and cannot be traded, not that general manager Reggie McKenzie is going to be doing much dealing with such a limited draft.

Burfict = slow, questionable instincts, runs around blocks instead of shedding them, not very good in coverage, character concerns.

So basically, he’s the embodiment of all the weaknesses the Raiders LB corps had last season.

Q: Looking to add another quarterback behind Palmer, Pryor . .

McKenzie: Kind of the same as like running back for us, make sure you bring a legitimate guy in.

(For reference, here’s the answer to the RB question)

Q: Is running back a position you feel good about being able to find someone, either through draft, a released player, drafted free agent . . .

McKenzie: Absolutely. I’m OK with being able find a guy. Some guys get released that can step in and play. A lot of those situations happen.

If Al were still here, we’d be taking Burfict in the third.

Not so much with Reggie Mac.

  • J Hill

    Outstanding!

    3rd, 4th and 5th picks???

We usually do pretty well in the middle rounds. Don’t expect that to change.

    So 3rd, 4th and 5th, huh?…who will fall to us at 95?

    ——————–

My money is on Sean Spence.

A few other possibilities are DE/OLB Jake Bequette, NT Josh Chapman, and CB Leonard Johnson.

  • DKnight007

    Yep yep!

Told ya we should get a 4th and 5th for sure along with the given of getting a 3rd!

This was the best possible scenario of comp picks we could get IMO!!

Chubby McK is licking his chops now!

I really hope Bobby Wagner from Utah State is there. Raiders have interviewed him a couple of times, I think; once at the Senior Bowl and again at the combine.

    Could be a good one!

  • YoungAmerican

Wagner would be great. I think he’ll be gone at the beginning of Round 2, but who knows.

    Burfict:

“His utter lack of discipline is a major concern for scouts; draws too many personal foul flags for late hits and constantly talks with officials and opponents. Has reportedly matured during over the past year, becoming a vocal leader on the field and in the locker room. Stamina could be improved.”

  • RaidO

Raiders have around $2 million in cap space. A 3rd Rd salary is around $550,000 $700,000 year. They have more than a few needs. It will be tight.

So all this we lost our whole draft talk was mistaken, eh?

  • DKnight007

3rd Rd pick- OLB/DE or NT
    4th Rd pick- NT/DT or OLB/DE
5th Rd pick#1- RB or big physical WR or TE
5th Rd pick#2- TE or WR or RB or OL

Regardless, Chubby Reggie will make these picks count!

TP is the #2 QB. Raiders don’t have money to bring in any legitimate QB’s. They will all want at least $1 Mil a year.

you will have over 3 weeks to cast your vote and change it.

Does that mean next year we get three picks also since we lost boss, bush, wimbley, rout,Johnson blackstock and soon camble does that mean we get three picks next year to??

    interesting, YA

Looking at the Raiders roster I would guess we’ll draft

    2 LB’s
    1 DB
    1 OL
    1 DL

that could change at any moment if the Raiders sign or re-sign somebody in the next 3+ weeks

  • RaidO

Raiders Cap is around $2 million:

    Low range,

    3Rd pick salary= about 600,000 year
    4th = $550,000
    5th = $470,000
    6th =$450,000

    = $2,075,000

Reggie has a lot of work to do.
It may just be draft picks now and really low range FA’s

We won’t get anything for Routt, Wimbley or any of the the other guys that were released. We could get compensation for Campbell and Bush, though. They were free agents.

So far, we’ve only “lost” Bush and Soup. Routt, Boss, CJ and Kam were all releases and therefore don’t count.

I might be wrong, but you do not get comp picks for players that are traded or cut. Only for players that leave as free agents…So far for next year it would be Bush, J. Campbell and T. Scott?

good point. Boss, Wimbley, Routt & Bush are out.

who else did we lose this offseason?

    Campbell, Satele, Scott & Schilens.

I don’t think we’re getting anything for Boller, Cartwright, Blackstock, Henderson, Eugene, Boyd or CJ37 (LOL)

I think the Raiders could re-sign Giordano, Groves, Moss & Heyer …

So next year the Texans (Williams) will get the highest comp pick, most likely?

  • Just Fire Baby

Well at least we are back in the top 100 of the draft (barely).

Get some pass-rushers and LB and DB’s with some instincts.

I am looking at the Hayward kid from Vandy in the 4th.

  • hwnrdr

LOL, based on the dumping that the Texans did, they could have the whole back end of the third!

I agree. McKenzie has said he wants a “legitimate guy” to be the backup running back. I think that means he wants someone that’s played in the league for a little while, and that knows how to run routes and block.

Doesn’t sound to me like he’s looking for a rookie to fill that role.

  • Just Fire Baby

According to a NFL.com article, comp picks factor in salary of players that left the most..

Therefore, Bruce Gradkowski helped garner more comp picks than Miller and T Howard.

    Thanks again Bruce!!!

Tough to say. I mean we cut Wimb, Routt and Boss. They were not unrestricted FA’s until we cut them, so I don’t know how the rule applies in that situation.

We should probably for sure get a 5th, 6th next year for losing Bush though I would think.
