Report: LB Wheeler visiting Raiders

UPDATE: Free agent linebacker Philip Wheeler said on his Twitter account Thursday morning he was visiting the Raiders.

“On my way to Oakland to see the Raiders. Which team would be a better fit for me this season. This is a tuff career choice.”
Unrestricted free agent linebacker Philip Wheeler, considered one of the better players on a horrific Indianapolis Colts defense in 2011, is visiting with the Raiders, according to the NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora.

Wheeler, 6-foot-2, 240 pounds, had 84 tackles last season for the Colts, 47 unassisted. He visited with the Miami Dolphins but isn’t likely to return to the Colts where head coach Chuck Pagano plans on installing a 3-4 defense.

Although relatively undersized for the position, Wheeler played strong side linebacker for the Colts. General manager Reggie McKenzie called that position a priority, given that two-year starter Kamerion Wimbley was released.

Whoever replaces Wimbley isn’t likely to have the same role. Wimbley played as a defensive end with his hand on the ground in nickel situations. The new strong side starter will probably come off the field on those downs

Why would a NFL cheerleader risk her teaching job by banging a student. She could screw all the studs in Cinci if she wanted.

Didn’t take the shot by the way.

Because she already HAS banged all the dudes on the team. That skank is a walking STD clinic. Seriously. I guess I just answered my own question as to why this is a crime.

ravens would have never got past the Raiders if they hadn’t of cheated.

You slide the little deal towards the Raider Helmet..and hit F5 and do it again and again and again!!

Thanks. Got it. I got the rest of the day. Raining like a s.o.b. so I got nothin better to do. I’ll vote a thousand times. No way in hell the ravens can get this. If the commish had a nut sack and some balls, he’d strip their Lombardi cause they cheated.

  • JLofty

Kind Nation blogger/posters, my memory of the year 2000AD is a little fuzzy. Exactly how did the Ravens (god I hated them!) cheat, exactly?!?
Other than the dirty play by Sirapigsa, I mean….

  • Macho Man Randy Savage

    Two things:
    1) No body wants to play for Miami
    2) He has to come cheap. Enough with overpaying for run of the mill players.

  • ron69

You people talking about a 3-4 defense should analize what RM is doing what more evidence do you want? We didn’t sign Lawson but he is a 4-3 guy so is Philip Wheeler what does it tell you? no rocket science isn’t it?, stop dreaming about 3-4 cause just is not going to happen. We could probably bring Andre Carter or Matt Roth and you’ll still be talking about standing them up.
If you still are not convince guess what we have 3 total LB, to play 3-4 we’ll need to sign at least 5 more lb, i rest my case.

the dirty play by sara-goose was cheated and the refs cheated cause they didn’t flag sara-goose.

Man, that 2000 Ravens D…whooo. Didn’t give Gannon any time…Raiders were favorites…Damnn Beikert was slow and Dorsett sucked…horseface won the game on one play.

  • Marks hair

seriously, we’re a 4-3 team.. I dont get the confusion at this point..

  • Marks hair

One late hit isnt cheating. We do it every game..

  • J Hill

We cut both our 4-3 rush DEs. ShoNasty is coming off a major injury.

I’d say our hole at DE in a 4-3 is just as big as our hole at LB for a 3-4.

I know randy did you see her twitter? She responded to his raider question and said she likes the raiders
    ====================================================

I checked out twitter and it sounds like she loves Miami because it’s Miami, but she likes The raiders uniforms better.

She must be a model or something so maybe her liking the uniforms will beatout the Beauty that is Miami, lol, I doubt it though if its up to her he will pick Miami.

Im not even sure if this dude is any good, all I know is we need some LB’s and he sounds like he could be a solid Strong or weakside LB. I don’t feel good going into draft without atleast enough LB’s to field a team

  • http://hooters.com Randy the Raider Redneck Alligator

It wasn’t a late hit. He drove him into the turf. Today, that would been a flag.

Trade some of the old man’s bling to the Bills for Kirk Morrison.

  • J Hill

Who is going to rush the passer in our 4-3?

Is our new DC going to ask the DTs to get after the QB?

  • Macho Man Randy Savage

Kirk Morrison @ SLB….hmmm, not bad, must be cheap too!

  • J Hill

Are Seymour and Kelly still on the roster?

    ————————————————————

Seymour fits perfectly in the 3-4.

    We’ll see about Kelly.

  • Marks hair

    326. It will be the same unit as last yr.. Except no wimbley playing de on 3rd down..

  • realtruraider

Man. we don’t even have enough LB’s to run a 4-3 right now let alone a 3-4. I think if we were going to run a 3-4 we would of picked up some Lb’s by now

  • Marks hair

Kirk just signed.. I dont think they can trade him for a bit even if they wanted to..

  • Macho Man Randy Savage

same unit w/o wimbley and the two corners…routt, CJ and olman shepperd left

Q: Defensively, what are your assets?

Allen: Our strongest area, I think defensively, is we’re going to be good up front. I think that’s been a key asset to the team over the last couple years. We’re big, we’re physical up front.
    ————————————–

Who is going to rush the passer in our 4-3?

I am 100% sure our 95th pick will be a pash rusher DE and he will take Houston’s place in passing downs just like Wimbley last year.

  • JLofty

Except, JHill, we have our starting DEs signed, under contract, on the roster. LBs, not so much…
So no the holes on those alignments are not similar.

  • JLofty

O, why are you ignoring that Travis Ivey was signed?

  • J Hill

Then again, the HC said that the nickle corner is a starter.

Curry is going to be on the field attacking he backfield. McClain is going to be out there too.

We play Peyton, Rivers, and a KC team that likes to throw the ball. ShoNasty, Kelly, Seymour, and Houston are not going to be on the field together. And if they are, we’re not going to be any good.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

    4-3 base.
LDE: Bryant, Brodine as Nickel pass rusher
    DT: NT/ Houston
    DT: Seymour, Houston, Bryant
    DE: Shaugnessy, Rookie (Cordarro Law)
    SLB: Curry
    MLB: McClain
    WLB: FA/ Rookie

That statement say’s to me… that he likes the talent, and the talent is multiple in their ability to play more than one position.

For example, Seymour, Bryant and Houston. T Kelly has played some D end for the Raiders as well.

Not saying the Raiders will be a textbook 3-4 team, but to suggest it’s not feasible is pre mature.

None of us know what DA has up his sleeve regarding scheme and possibly a better utilization of the current players under contract.

Whats Allen going to say our Secondary lmfao?

I don’t think anybody here has said in 2012 the Raiders will run a 3-4 exclusively, do we think there will be some 3-4 tweaks, Yes

When your DEs can’t get to the QB, you’ll see gimmick stuff like that.

My man Armond has been screaming for some speed on from the DE position for years. I wanted Jason Pierre Paul a couple of years ago, and Orakpo before that.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

    JLofty,

Did we tender Moss, Groves, or Scott?no!
Are we looking at add a NT? Yes!
We tendered players that can help the team, and players we know can get interest from other teams.

  • J Hill

    Kell,

I agree that our Dline is a position of strength. DTs in particular. I’m simply questioning the DE positions since we are in a passing league, and more importantly, a passing division.

We are going to HAVE to get after Rivers and Manning and we can’t rely on sending 5 and 6 players.

We’ll get eaten alive trying to go with a bunch of DTs along the Dline again next year.
