McFadden finally speaks

Raiders running back Darren McFadden avoided the cameras, microphones and notepads for most of the past six months, while recovering from the foot sprain that forced him to miss the final nine games of the 2011 season.
On Monday, he consented to a brief interview with NFL Sirius radio, with most of the focus being on McFadden’s status. He didn’t shed much light on things, other than to say that he feels good, will continue playing the way he has in the past and not worry about the fear of being injured.

McFadden is in the last year of his contract. If he gets hurt, he’s gone. If he has a breakout year, he’s gone. Either way, he’s gone next season…in less than a month Tyvon Branch is going to sign a contract for all of McFadden’s salary next season and Goodson is a fumbler who might just keep fumbling. To say this team is set at RB is ridiculous. Turbin at #95 if he’s still there. All day long.

Don’t we have McFadden for 2 more years? This season and next season?

DMAC do your thing and pi$$ on these fools that want you out of here.

  • Dakota

At least we no longer have to worry about average players, like Tollefson, walking away from a meeting with the Raiders with a huge, nonsensical, contract.

  • RaidO

Actually lets get this correct. First it was McPushover. He fixed that problem. Now its just McSoft because he is always hurt.

  • DJ Johnny

DMAC said absolutely NOTHING in that interview but tired, old, worn out sports cliches.

I wish the players would actually say SOMETHING sometime.

The only part that was mildly interesting was DMAC saying he was gonna go all out and what happens..happens.

But really what else is he gonna say?

I hope we can count on him to play most of the games this yr.

    @Raid

I think the terms were “McFelldown” courtesy of BSJ and “McFragile” (source unknown)

but I happen to think DMAC will be healthy for about 12 games this season and make us a playoff team

    Damn Dakota,
I was one of the toughest against your obsession with drafting McFadden but it is clear to see that he is easily THE most explosive player in the AFC west and yet people want to let him walk when his contract comes up?

Our season will NOT be determined by DMAC. We can live with a RB by commitee.

Our season depends on CP3 and the passing game, the o-Line, and the improvement of the defense.

I said 2 months ago we should trade DMAC. We do not need a top flight RB to Win.

  • Dakota

    Saint,

Or they want to trade him for a 2nd or 3rd round pick in the draft……smh

Talent like that, you give the guy every opportunity to overcome the injury bug before you give up on him.

Prior to this past injury McFadden played in 20 out of 23 games, rushing for 1,771 yards at 5.27 ypc, scoring 11 TDs and tacking on another 661 yards and 4 TDs receiving….that is about 121.6 total yards per game….and the only reason the TDs were so low is because the Raiders gave Twinkle Toes Bush the red zone work the past two seasons.

No reason to believe he can’t have that kind of a healthy stretch again.

    @ 303

the only way thats true is if we go pass happy

not happening under Greg Knapp, the most run-oriented OC of the past decade

perhaps the point you’re trying to make is that the zbs is VERY rb friendly?

in that case, I would tend to agree with you – as long as the O-Line does it’s job

We had a RB by committee approach, Dmac/Bush.

But you do need a good running game.

By now, you all know my stance on DMac. But at this point I think it’s too late in the game to move him, unless they manage to swing a draft-day deal that nets them multiple picks. Very unlikely now.

care to pick a player YOU would like to see us draft?

  • RaiderRockstar

nobody wants to see a trio of Goodson, Jones & Miller at RB …

you don’t trade a stud RB (when healthy) to draft somebody who might be the next Ki-Jana Carter or Lawrence Phillips!!

  • SaintKaufman

    Fellas,
Why the need to get rid of our most productive and explosive player??

Because he gets hurt? Uh, lets see who else got hurt last year at the RB position…no one really….just…

    Adrian Peterson
    Arian Foster
    Jamaal Charles
    Ahmad Bradshaw
    Ryan Mathews
    Matt Forte
    Marshawn Lynch
    Fred Jackson
    Rashard Mendenhal
    DeMarco Murray
    Peyton Hillis
    Felix Jones

to name a few. But not many good ones, eh??

  • 303Raider

All Im saying gents is for anyone to say “we need Dmac to win” IMO, is incorrect.

I believe we can plug some very capable RB’s into our system. the NFL today is more about the passing game PLUS DMAC’s health history is well documented.

Look, I have his jersey, I love the Dude, but he will NOT define our season.

CP3 and the passing game will define it.

Michael Bush really is a one trick pony. And, worst at that, he won’t even hone is own talent. He continuously tries to be an east-west tailback and look for holes, when he should be driving his head forward every down. I think Reg made the right decision. McFadden is our halfback, period. If Bush wasn’t willing to be a backup and accept backup pay, he had to go.

Here I am, We Need Dmac To Win!

  • Just Win Baby

About week 8 when McFadden is on crutches and we aren’t scoring any points with our unproven receiving corps, you all will be wishing we had more than Goodson and Jones just like you were all wishing we had more than Bush and Jones last year. There is still time to change your #95 choice to Turbin. lol

  • http://www.Raiders.com KoolKell

Without Dmac, we don’t reach 7 wins.

  • SaintKaufman

    Totally agree Sully.

Holy crap, can’t believe I just typed that!. :) Just kiddin’ man, we cool.

  • http://www.raiderettes.com Sullivan44

McFadden’s injury prone, but there’s too much explosive talent there for him not to be the designated starter, regardless. That’s the situation with him.

  • http://www.raiderettes.com Sullivan44

Reggie goes with Bush, trades McFadden. McFadden goes elsewhere, racks up 2,000 all purpose yards, pro bowl, whole 9. I guarantee you that’s what he’s thinking. McFadden’s so good that you have to look past his being injury prone. You never want to be in a position where you’re rooting for a guy you just traded to get injured so it will justify your decision. That’s what’s in the other door.

  • SaintKaufman

    Rockstar,
I’m confused about your list. Is it who we think we will draft or who we want to draft?? As in Andrew Luck.

  • DT42

Since Dmac is so injury prone why not use his receiving skills more? I could envision him as a Charlie Garner style back. We could bring in a Legarete Blount type running back to pound between the tackles. That way we get the explosive plays from Dmac and keep him healthy.

  • SaintKaufman

What’s getting me Sully is that McFadden is 24 yrs old and yet people want to ditch him. Unbelievable. The dude has taken over games for us when he is all that we’ve had. Just don’t get it. Sign that man to a long term.

    —————————————–
They do use his receiving skills, won’t stop him from running over somebody though. Injuries don’t just occur between the tackles. In fact, I don’t think any of his injuries were on runs up the middle.

  • Just Win Baby

I would see if he makes it out of training camp before I sign him long term.

  • Twocents

Rockstar, after much deliberation and seeing as how I believe Chapman will be gone, I select Greg Childs, WR
    Arkansas.

  • http://www.raiderettes.com Sullivan44

Jerry has warned us time and time again how this organization will be run in the foreseeable future.

    “What would Green Bay do?”

A: Go with McFadden, tell Bush he’s a backup or nothing.

That’s what Reggie did. Makes sense.

  • No Mas Diamante

Is Mcfadden injury prone or just plain unlucky? I think he’s just unlucky and is going to have a monster year. Heck, seems Adrian Peterson has been hurt as much as Dmac and no one ever call him injury prone.
