Tollefson leaves Oakland without contract

Free agent defensive lineman Dave Tollefson said he is on his way back home, to Omaha, Neb., pleased with the way his visit went with the Raiders today but without a contract in hand.
Tollefson, 29, said he is hopeful of working out a contract with the Raiders in the coming days. In the interim, he is headed to Nashville on Thursday for a visit with the Tennessee Titans.
“I’m sure the Raiders don’t want me going to Tennessee,” Tollefson said by phone a few minutes ago. “So, I hope something gets worked out beforehand.”
Tollefson is an Ygnacio Valley High School graduate who also attended Los Medanos College. He has spent the past five seasons with the New York Giants, playing a pivotal role in their winning two Super Bowl titles.
Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie has shown a knack for landing players he gets in the building in Alameda. So far, he has signed every player who has made the trek to Alameda. Signing Tollefson would make McKenzie 5-for-5.
As Tollefson said, the ball is in the Raiders court.
Tollefson would join the Raiders defensive line rotation and become a core member of the special teams if he signs here.

I’m not feeling the run-run-run or run-run-pass strategy. Sound like more Bed & Breakfast stuff that will lead to Lechler wearing out his leg.

This is a passing league. We need to open it up and take shots down the field and do it at will on any down.

    Bcz,

Who is this spread college QB who came to the NFL as a rookie and was running no huddle, making calls at the line? With NO snaps under his belt?

  • bcz24

How is it a given that Pryor has learned SOMETHING by now? Brand new regime, new coaches, new WCO…lot of new stuff to process.
    ***********************
He still learned a pro style offense, and practiced in it for all of last season, and worked with an NFL QB coach the 6 weeks he was suspended

    @DMAC

Al Saunders hasn’t been a play caller since his days with the Washington Redskins in 2007, where he failed miserably

what are you basing this off of?

    KC 2001-2005 ???

you think he’s a better OC because he has a bigger playbook that Hue Jackson used to call plays from?

I don’t understand why people think Saunders is better than Knapp.. blows my mind

ROG claims this all the time, but it always ends up being hatred because he has coached the 49ers previously

If Tebow can play QB, I don’t know why it’s assumed, Pryor can’t.

My guess is that Knapp will heavily influence the run game but that Saunders and Palmer will get a lot of input in how the passing game is structured.

Why would we want Moore, DHB and Ford to learn a whole new route tree as such newbies? This is why Saunders is still here.

Winning the NFL rushing title isn’t anything I think we need to make a priority.

NY Giants finished dead last in rushing and won a Super Bowl.

That’s all you need to know.

Who is the Rookie qb that came in to the NFL and threw for over 4,000 yards and rushed for over 700 yards… Cam Newton did it. There is a first time for everything.

Pryor practiced with the team for an entire season. Most ‘rookie’ qbs don’t have that.

Im not saying Pryor CAN run a no huddle offense. I am just disagreeing with you that he CAN’T. Unless you can show me some empirical evidence to support that it is nothing more than conjecture on your part.

if the Texans have Matt Schaub instead of TJ Yates, I think they win the SB trophy instead (even if Andre Johnson sits)

you have to have a balanced offense. With Palmer & DMAC, I think we’ll have that. Palmer can still throw for 4,000 yards and 20+ TD’s if we’re the #1 rushing team in football

Don’t just assume that a run-first team wont be passing the football at all. If that were the case, Palmer might as well kick rocks and let’s sign Matt Leinart

Once again run heavy teams do not win super bowls. If that is the direction this team is going then the season is already over.

TP said he knew and practiced the whole playbook.

He was with the team for the last 2 weeks of preseason, and had an NFL QB coach working with him privately for his entire suspension. I would think it is a safe guess they didn’t spend 6 weeks working on that designed run that Hue called against KC.

Hate to say this, but the Whiners probably would of beaten the Pats in the super bowl, if it wasn’t for that fumble.
Are they not a run heavy team?

    Defense wins championships!

The way you stop or contain a high powered passing offense is to be able to run the ball succesfully, so that opposing offenses don’t send their QB on the field to do damage.

  • RaiderRockstar

the Raiders have been built to snuff out the pass for YEARS under Al Davis. our priority in the draft & free agency was always in the secondary.

how many games have we won since the Super Bowl loss to TB?

not nearly enough. not even a playoff appearance

how many fewer games did we win after losing Nnamdi Asomugha to Philly, CJ37 missing basically the entire season, Huff missing 4 games, Chuck B as DC and Routt getting 17 flags?

    none! 8-8 again

Toast Routt, Sheppard & Giordano off the street, rookies DVD and Chekwa

the Raiders aren’t built to pass the ball & stop the pass any longer. Reggie & Dennis are defensive minded guys that want to get back to smashmouth football. DA was a donkey last year, was passing their strength? GK was a houston boot last year, was passing their strength?

WAKE UP and smell the coffee!!

I find it interesting that the same folks that are worried about Knapp emphasizing the run are the same folks that are suggesting that Pryor get his shot this year because Tebow got his last year.

If “run-heavy offenses don’t win in today’s NFL” why would you want Pryor out there at this poiñt in his career? Did you people wàtch Denver play last year?

Pryor is no better a passer right now than Tebow was last year. Do you really want to see that nonsense on the field in Oakland? I know I don’t.

  • raidertbone

    #632
Things the defense has never done before:
    1. Hold onto leads late
    2. Exhibit skills in dropping back into pass coverage
    3. Not jumping offsides
    4. Fundamental tackling
    5. Not getting stiff-armed to the ground (well okay, Hiram is no longer here – the rest of the defense gets a pass on that one!)
    6. Getting nasty without getting unnecessary penalties

He has both size and decent speed, standing at 6’2″ tall and weighing in at 243 pounds, while running a 4.63 40 yard dash.

    Rockstar,

Look at any pre-draft scouting report on Pryor. Read anything written about him inhere by McDonald or Corkran, who have seen him practice as a Raider. Watch his college games.

Look, I want the kid to succeed. He’s a Raider. I would rather he has the time to develop properly than put him out there because some other dude did it last year. That is just flawed logic.
