Cowboys, Raiders preseason on MNF
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, April 4th, 2012 at 1:25 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders will open the preseason at home against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night, Aug. 13, at 5 p.m. the club announced Wednesday.
The Week 2 through 4 preseason games do not have specific dates affixed as yet. Oakland travels to Arizona in Week 2, hosts Detroit in Week 4 and finishes the preseason in Seattle.
The annual game against the 49ers is off for the foreseeable future because of violence that took place in last season’s game at Candlestick Park.

I don’t hunt….well I did once and I shot a duck….it was so pretty, and I did not enjoy it….but, hunting serves multiple purposes in our society. It brings together fathers and children (would say sons, but you leftist people would throw a fit), it keeps the population of certain predators down (in our area it is mountain lions), and it provides a source of food to families and revenue to many States.
Is hunting really that much worse than the slaughter of cattle, and pigs in a slaughterhouse which then people like Madden Raider (Sully) devour on a daily basis at Carl’s Jr.?

Dakota, even if I was a hypocrite (I never answered as to whether or not I eat meat), a hypocrite is better than a calculated murderer. I don’t believe a person who eats meat simply because it’s practical and affordable, and would be more than willing to stop eating meat if there were more practical alternatives retail wise, is the same person as someone who eats meat and advocates it.
I think you’re confusing the definition of hypocritical with overwhelmed.

I bought bananas the other day. Cost per…30 cents.
If you’re lacto avo, and egg will cost you 13 cents.
Anyone that chooses to be Vegan in the SF Bay area can not use economics as an excuse. Just sayin.

Ya banana, I paid 1.99 lb for fuji apples on that same grocery list. That was pricey imo…about 90 cents per.
By seasonal I mean when the fruit or veggie is harvested and when the market has the greatest abundance of that food item.

Former policemen in Katrina bridge shootings jailed
Five former New Orleans police officers who shot six unarmed African American civilians, two fatally, on a bridge in the wake of Hurricane Katrina have been jailed.
The prison terms range from six to 65 years for the shootings on the Danziger Bridge in September 2005.
Four of the officers were found guilty of firearms offences and the fifth was jailed for helping the cover-up.
The officers planted a gun and fabricated witnesses and false reports to make the shootings appear justified.
Robert Faulcon, 48, received the longest sentence of 65 years; Kenneth Bowen, 38, and Robert Gisevius, 39, received 40 years each; and Anthony Villavaso, 35, was sentenced to 38 years in prison.
Retired Sgt Arthur Kaufman, 55, the officer who was assigned to investigate the shootings, received a six-year prison sentence for helping to co-ordinate the cover-up.

The Raiders never confirmed the extent of McFadden’s injury, but he did. “It’s a long recovery from a Lisfranc injury,” he said. “… But I’m feeling pretty good now.” McFadden insisted he won’t change his playing style due to persistent early-career injuries, most of which have been the result of old-fashioned bad luck. “If you get hurt,” he said, “you just get hurt.” -DMC per Sirius

The whole preseason is real football. Most years the real football doesn’t start until the second quarter when the scrubs start fighting for roster spots and the serious competition for unsettled starting spots picks up.
This year with the new Reggime and coaches and systems, its real football right from the first kickoff with the David Ausberrys, Mike Goodsons, and Pat Lees through the end of the game when we’ll get to see if the Travis Iveys to the Goethels, the Lonyae Millers to the Eddie McGees, the Alex Parsons to the Zach Hurds, the Carl Ihenachos to the Mason Brodines, the Brandon Underwoods to the Terrail Lamberts, and all the new players are part of the Raiders’ future.

You impressed me with your connection thesis earlier but then lost me here with the hunting. Hunters actually are often very connected to the whole ecology and the whole hunt thing is to regulate the population so there will not be a crash in game because of a bad winter or something. There is a sustainable balance that goes on with most of them. Most support limits and research to figure out what is sustainable. Much of this allowable hunt is to make up for losses in predators or other imbalances. Hunters for most part very connected with what is going on with the animals they hunt. Poachers excepted. They often are the most outspoken environmentalists (for good or bad). I say this as a non-hunter who used to work for a State Fish and Wildlife agency.
The whole dehumanization of and disconnection with other people is what allows other people to rationalize monstrous behavior against others.

Sad to see Ali come on to the field in a fancy golf cart, for the pre-game at the Marlins opening game on BSPN..
He looked very frail. The crowd was in a stunned silence, and had to be urged by the P.A. announcer to do the “ALI, ALI” chant…

Raiders have a shot at redemption. 11 years and no playoffs??
Al was a zombie.
Like preseason means anything. A waste of time with no outcome, but all the semi-scrubs will be here cheering.

Hope McK signs Tollefson. It would be a solid pickup and addition to the DLine rotation and special teams.
April 4th, 2012 at 4:47 pm
For you Demetrius Bell fans out there, he changed his name to Demetress and signed a five year deal with the Eagles, where he will replace LT Jason Peters, who blew out his Achilles tendon practicing at home. Could see this signing coming.
But why does a butter soft OT change his name to make it sound more feminine? Wouldn’t changing it to Derockasaurus made more sense? Or maybe something less over the top like just keeping the same name. Maybe he is going to double as waitress at team dinners. If it wasn’t put to rest already, this should end posters on this blog still wanting him for Raiders.
And in Oaktown, the haters have to deal with my man Khalif Barnes being re-signed
April 4th, 2012 at 4:48 pm

I guess you are a waste without your race.
You couldn’t play victim if you were German or Irish.
So you take the low road, with Al, and cry victim. What’s next? You gonna sue like Al?
You will be here like all semi-scrubs cheering Raiders all pre-season, thinking your comments are going to mean something, telling us about the 1950s, and proving to us you are a waste.

Exactly what I was thinking. At #95 he might be the best out there that the Raiders need. If Wiz moves to center he would be a solid backup. If Wiz stays at RG Brewster could start. Need a backup center either way.

April 4th, 2012 at 4:55 pm
Wow if Brewster is somehow there at #95 I would take him maybe even over Alameda. That is what is so hard about saying who we want at 95. We are so far down we do not know who will drop. I think Center is a priority though especially since we got Wheeler.
April 4th, 2012 at 4:58 pm
Every race has been victim, including the dinosaurs…so is it your turn up to bat (using a baseball term, which itself is another dreadful thing to watch on TV).
Kell, you tried to bad mouth Davis (and he deserved it) but is purely you acting Tom.
Raiders have a chance to return to the playoffs after 11 years and you can’t stand it…as evidenced by you still not being happy and playing victim.

I think this is a season where I have no idea what to expect from this team.
I predicted 12-4 just to be optimistic becuz there were FOUR games Raiders lost that we would’ve won if we would’ve simply had an “average” defense and not the worst since the ‘52 Texans.
So, that’s 4 games right there added to the 8 we did win and voila…12-4.
That being said, with a lot of new players we really don’t know what we can expect. So many unknowns with coaching etc.

If McWalkingBoot swooshes in his new shoes for more than half a season that is good.
If O-linemen fight tooth and facemask to blockade for Carson Lamonica giving him a chance and receivers fight fingernail and elbow for routes and receptions that is good.
As for defense, there is not a snowball’s chance in hell that the D could be more lacking than it was last year.

Gallery never should have been as mediocre as he was. Not only was Rob Gallery considered the best offensive line prospect to come out for years, he was considered the best FOOTBALL PLAYER to come out the year he was drafted. Gallery was basically about as no miss a prospect as you could have. So what happened? He started at left tackle, moved to right tackle, moved back to left tackle, and finally Cable used him as a guard where he played well. You can’t do that with no miss players.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Lonetree,
I am not sure I understand your question. I believe AD’s genius fled due to old age, and once that happened that genius was unredeemable – could never return. At that point AD should have stepped down, and turned over operations to others.
The Chinese have a wise and interesting adage: “The father who lives too long has no obedient son.”
People accuse me of being a hater which is wrong; in the glory days from 1970 through 1990 AD was my hero. But after that enough was enough, the bright flower faded and once AD essentially canned Gruden, I became a disbeliever.
Now, however, is a new day, of competence and savvyness: genius might even emerge, again, and only time will tell.
It’s a great day to be a Raider, fan, and/or part of the Nation.

Hardline was Al D. Davis…spewing filth and racism left and right for a few days. Then he was banned, and had to come back as somebody else…thus, Hardline. He says he was “asked” by IBA/MNG to change his moniker and tone it down. That’s what they keep doing to Brien…they “ask” him to change his handle.
Hardline cannot come in here for a casual conversation without throwing out his hatred for Al Davis. Much like KK and MR always find a way to turn the convo to race. (Almost) Amazingly…they don’t know how small-thinking and hateful they reveal themselves to be in the process…and/or they don’t care, which makes them even sadder.

81 — The problem with KK is he puts everybody else together under one stereotyped umbrella. Then, he complains about everybody stereotyping others (i.e., calling us all/most racists at various times…even those who’ve never typed such comments in here).
Basically, he takes lumps because he asks for them…including giving out his peronal info on the blog, and then inviting people to track him down. THEN…he reported to the police that the Oakland Raiders were harrassing him. Hil-farking-a-larious stuff to watch unfold.
KK is many things…but a victim he ain’t.

Hayes,
You are drinking again. Put the bottle away, fool. The more you talk the more stupid you get. You say:
“He says he was “asked” by IBA/MNG to change his moniker and tone it down.”
I was asked no such thing. After Corky gave the “Respectful Notice”, the S/N Al D. Davis was invalidated. I never talked with anyone and simply created a new S/N Hardline.
Before you make an allegation, know the truth. I see drinking ruins your memory.
Go to bed playboy, now.

I hope he burns over his crimes. Hopefully, he will “f” around in Alabama from whence he came and get capped between the eyes while entertaining some ni.ga nonsense in ‘bama’ ghetto.”

You understand little about subtleties. Try to compare Hue, the Pimpin Magnificient, and genius McClain to Jack Johnson…….lie to the fans, the nation, spit in our faces, and it’s fine with you. DMC’s more spectacular, for sure. Ray Rice is a churnin’ machine, though.
Rice wants O-U-T out of Baltimore…he doesn’t like that Franchise Tag at all, and he is rightfully insulted by the Ravens.
It says here Ray Rice is on the block…even if the Ravens deny it, leading up to the draft.
April 4th, 2012 at 11:19 pm

April 4th, 2012 at 11:34 pm
Look at Chaz. The guy is very talented, but he is not successful so far, and that is due to his durability issues. According to Cork & Jerry, he was out best WR, but he couldn’t stay healthy to earn more snaps and playing time. Coaches can’t depend on a guy that can’t stay healthy.

I just saw that the Packers are refusing to change their uni’s in any way except for allowing the Nike “swoosh” on their jersey’s.

The NFL doesn’t force Teams to change uni design…that’s completely up to the Owner/s. Seattle has only their Owner to blame for their hideous uniforms.
OK…now I’m out. Later.

I used to be excited about baseball season opening. Now, I guess i find it too dang boring to be too excited.
It’s hard to watch a whole game for me anymore.
They have to find a better way to fill up the NFL offseason for us.
I wouldn’t mind if the CFL played their games during this time of yr.
I actually like it a little bit.
Go Eskimos..lol.

I think those new unis’ are awfully ugly and in extremely bad taste. Sure they demo them with chizzled hunks in the ads, but can you imagine a 340 pound lineman in those tights, showing every ripple of goo. Brutal.

Then stereotyping & profiling.
Mudslinging en lieu of football activity? Is it because of the vibrations of planet earth, 2012, the price of oil or the fact it’s an election year, not only in the USA (yes, I am here to protect everyone’s first amendment rights) but around the world (China, Russia, France, Myniamar, etc), the situations regarding Arab Spring, Syria, the Sudan, wow! First up in the morning (East Coast) – Good Mornin’ Nation! Let me start off the banter by saying that I hope DMac makes it back onto the field this season and can sustain it. I hear all the debate between him vs. Rice — my “take” is that the Raiders had to decide early whether #20 or Bush would be the guy they would hitch their wagons to. They made their decision; now, they just have to bring in quality backups, and roll with it.
April 5th, 2012 at 3:39 am
$5.65 million this year;
$5.85 million next year (last year of his deal);
Only Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson make more money than DMac at the running back spot;
If he gets injured again, that could be a high price to swallow – again … I think both he and the Raiders organization are acutely aware of that, going into this season.

That’s what they said about Mike Vick, Plaxico Burress, etc. The NFL will forgive and forget once Williams does his time. Goodell will eventually say that enough’s enough. GW will get a shot to be at the very least “involved” as a consultant one day.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:35 am
#492,
yeah, I am fired up to see it myself.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:39 am
Williams is too old and NOT THAT GOOD, to be given a real second chance.
He is done, and that is ridiculous.
No wonder they got caught, there was probably some guys in that locker room, who were on another team before and heading into FA this offseason, and was like Fck this prick, trying to force us to hurt other players.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:40 am
There is a difference from wanting big, tough, physical, fast defensive play. Our new HC is going to be screaming for that.
It is a whole another thing, to try to get your players to go for the head in a pile, and talk about blowing out guys ACL’s and stuff.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:46 am
Gregg Williams just got caught saying what lots of other coaches say in locker rooms all the time. Most of the players simply hear “Blah, blah, blah …” What I would like to know is who the scum was who taped a locker room pep talk and felt the need to make it public — THAT’s the guy who should be roasted, i/m/o!!

***********
Now that may be the case right there. But if the NFL has showed time and time again, if you have talent, they don’t really care about past transgressions.
GW’s probably done because it’s going to be difficult to trust his judgment on anything. His moral code is warped, and all the “I’m sorry’s” in the world won’t change anything.
But if he is in fact a coaching commodity that can mentor a young DC with his many years of “X’s and O’s”, he could be of service to someone. I don’t think any moral compass will be used to keep him from a job. It would ultimately be his talent or lack of it.
April 5th, 2012 at 5:46 am
I think Greg Williams should go to jail. He was basically trying to end people’s careers and cost them millions of dollars. If I paid someone to break my neighbors leg, I would go to jail.

You are an idiot, and so is Greg Williams. The video came from a filmmaker who was making a documentary about Saints player Steve Gleason. The fact that Williams was making that speech with a camera in the room shows what arrogant pieces of sh*t the Saints are.

Guest,
It is different for players and coaches, per Goodell.
In the code of conduct thing, it clearly states that players and front office people will be held to a higher standard and face harsher punishment than players.
Hence the year-long suspension for Payton, and I think they will just suspend Williams “indefinately” which will pretty much be permantely.

Well, in that case – if Gregg Williams knew there was a camera in the room and he still went on his rant – that’s a horse of a different color! He needs to get some serious help during his time off — maybe, as part of his punishment, he’ll be forced to work with people rehabbing knee injuries, or soldiers with their legs blown off; perhaps give him a fresh perspective on “takin’ someone out”. Goodell and he will no doubt be having some serious chats between now and the 2013 season, but I believe he will be back in some way, shape, or form …

But since he is in his 50’s, I can’t see him on the sidelines again.

How is that any different from MMA? Boxing? I’m sure it happens a lot in soccer too. The nature of the game and high stakes in terms of money leads people to succomb to their weaknesses and they lower the bar of sportsmanship to win at any costs.
And if you want to call out GW for it, I am sure that he is not an outlier by any means. The other coaches in the NFL that see what is going on are breathing a sigh of relief it wasn’t them that was caught, and Goodell has sent his message to them. I think it’s hypocrisy to judge GW/Saints as the only culprit.
Also, am glad to see it was the NFL’s feel good poster child franchise they took down, so there’s no way they can say that Goodell “had it in for them”
April 5th, 2012 at 6:17 am
Leo is a great actor. Some people still think he is the teen heart throb from Titanic. Get over it. That was 15 years ago. Shutter Island, Inception, Departed, Revolutionary Road, are all very good movies.
April 5th, 2012 at 6:18 am
Shutter Island was really good, IMO.
You watch it a second-time, and pick up all kinds of weird tidbits.
April 5th, 2012 at 6:19 am
I am sure other coaches were screaming SOME of the same stuff, but when a group of people are doing something illegal, it is usually the most blatant and eggregious that get caught first.
April 5th, 2012 at 6:21 am

I think it’s curious that Goodell decided on an “indefinite” suspension. Had he banned him for life, it may have opened up a lawsuit. But GW accepted his suspension without a fight, and I think maybe in the hope that Goodell lifts it after some period of time that only Goodell and GW actually know. I don’t think that GW would have accepted the penalty of “indefinite” without actually knowing what that meant.
April 5th, 2012 at 6:23 am
JFB, I’m sure other coaches said the same things. But, the Saints were arrogant and continued their bounty system after the NFL opened an investigation. How stupid can you be. If I was the Saints owner, I would fire Sean Payton. Him and Greg Williams tarnished everything the organization has accomplished over the 5 years.
April 5th, 2012 at 6:25 am
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter Reply Retweet Favorite · Open
Keep in mind, NFL contacted Saints before these playoffs and basically told them to stop bounties. Saints didn’t take warnings seriously.
April 5th, 2012 at 6:25 am
Good points G123, but I think it is a tad different for players and coaches, in that Williams needs to have a job first before he can really start to appeal anything, and doesn’t have as deep as pockets to fight it as the players and the PA.
He probably will just go down to the college ranks, and go work for Les Miles before he starts taking on the league over a 150K a year consultant gig.
April 5th, 2012 at 6:27 am
What amazes me is that through it all, Drew Brees is still the “good guy”, the Nyquil pitchman, the hero to post-Katrina New Orleans who took led them to their first Super Bowl.
Last year, the networks were hanging off of Brees nuts, broadcasting his personally led OTA’s and his work in the community.
There is no way, absolutely no way that Drew Brees shared the same sideline and didn’t hear the defensive players yapping about winning money after a hit. He was complicit in it and the fact he didn’t say or do anything to me makes him just as culpable.
April 5th, 2012 at 6:30 am
And Drew is playing the stupid card, saying he knew nothing the whole time.
Well Drew, why not? Aren’t you the leader in the clubhouse? If it was rampant like that and accepted, than realistically I want my QB in on it, just like the rest of the team.
April 5th, 2012 at 6:31 am
I don’t see Greg Williams going to a college program – too much of a political firestorm for potential recruits and for all the supporting alumni …
April 5th, 2012 at 6:33 am
Drew Brees = Ronald Reagan … sure you knew!
April 5th, 2012 at 6:33 am
You know, fans cry that out all the time at games…and I’m sure Goodell heard it when he was in Oakland…lol, but a fan saying it and a coach instructing it…and I’m sure many coaches do it…Saints got caught! What got me is when Payton tried to deny it, got caught, then admitted it. I think he would have had a less harsh penalty if he came out and admitted that he knew. Williams was already hired in St Louis…
Anyways…screw it, let us move on!!!

I’ll tell you who I want the Raiders to take witht he 95th pick… THE BEST PLAYER LEFT AT THE TOP OF THEIR BOARD!
I don’t know about you guys but I just feel a lot safer with the draft now. One of my buddies is a Bears fan and I remember the year we drafted DHB with our first pick, we also took Mitchell extremely high as well. My buddy called me after every Raiders pick and laughed at me, he said he couldn’t believe the guys we were drafting… I don’t think that’s going to happen anymore. I trust that Reggie will take the best football players available and not reach for prospects.

I know there are some homers out there who all they can do is yap about the Raiders being great no mattter what and they show no sense of reality.
And there are some others who are all doom and gloom and say the Raiders are in rebuilding mode.
I think Reggie McKenzie is putting together a team that has a fighting chance to be good. It will take a lot of work, some luck, good health, a lot of things. I’m not a doom & gloomer, but it’s a tall order to be good in the first year of the new regime. But I sense we will be taking 2 steps forward and 1 step back, instead of 2 steps forward and 2 or 3 steps back like in previous Al Davis led regimes.
This ship is going in the right direction, and it may take some time to get where we are going, but the naysayers and doom and gloomers will eat their words or shut up and jump on the bandwagon later.
April 5th, 2012 at 6:56 am
Chuck Bresnahan, as a defensive coach? Nah, he’s too offensive!
April 5th, 2012 at 6:57 am
Reggie would have drafted Heyward-Bey in Round 3 if he was still available … certainly not Top 10
but who is to say Al Davis was wrong? DHB gets better every year. He was a very raw player when we first got him. Year #4 should be pretty special for him
April 5th, 2012 at 6:58 am
At the #95 pick, I am starting to hear the name of Nigel Bradham come up – he’s an outside linebacker, with starting potential.
April 5th, 2012 at 6:58 am
Dennis Allen was there, yes, but was he still there after the league told them to stop doing it? I think that is where Goodell is acting on…just asking…
April 5th, 2012 at 6:59 am
DHB … with B.J. Raji and Brian Orakpo both on the board — I rest my case!
April 5th, 2012 at 6:59 am
If RoMac had DHB’s motor, he’d be special.
April 5th, 2012 at 7:00 am
Orakpoed…another word for sack!
April 5th, 2012 at 7:03 am
RoMac was actually the first guy that I had slated for the Raiders to pick in the first round and it actually happened — first time in about 10 years. Now, he hasn’t lived up to (yet) what I had hoped he would, but I am hoping he can come in fresh this year, free from distractions and benefit from a new system that will work better with his skill set. I am looking for big things out of both him and Curry.
April 5th, 2012 at 7:09 am
I’ll give DHB a lot of credit for busting his tail out there. If he fails to acheive his potential, it won’t be for lack of effort. If we had 52 others with his motor….
April 5th, 2012 at 7:11 am
The knock on Bradham is that he is slow to read plays (sounds like another LB that we drafted last year). He is a hitter and a sure tackler, I just don’t know how his transition to the NFL will be. I imagine we could probably do worse then him in the 3rd though.
April 5th, 2012 at 7:21 am
Yeah it was all about the DHB Crabtree debate. I think DHB is or will be a better WR in the long run. He does get better every year.
April 5th, 2012 at 7:23 am
I’m glad we didn’t draft Craptree, that guy is such a little girl it’s not even funny. What has he done in the NFL?

There’s no way to prove that any one hit is different than 10 other legal hits. If anything, the intent is on the players who follow through with the act. Williams enabled the acts, but he didn’t swing the wrench. What would be the charge? Conspiracy? That would be a difficult case to try.

Not that I necessarily disagree, but what real proof is there that we have a talented roster? Are we just each of us nodding to each other in agreement of this as a fact? I have no doubt we have some stars on this team, but I don’t know about having a “talented roster”. I think that’s what Reggie McKenzie is trying to fix.

When Williams mentioned the ACL, twisting Vernon Davis’ ankle in the pile, going after Frank Gore’s head, and making the rubbing fingers together motion “I got the first one” – meaning the first payout, that pretty much cooked his goose. Now, we know why the suspension is “indefinite”!

Amobi Okoye likely finished with Bears

Defensive tackle Amobi Okoye has drawn a fair amount of interest in free agency and that means he’s unlikely to return to the Bears in 2012.
He’s only 24 and still has another 6-8 years.
Just in case we don’t get Chapman and Alameda!
April 5th, 2012 at 8:27 am
Are you comparing the NFL and football players to a regular business and workers? Unless hitting and tackling is required from the workers, it’s not the same thing.
April 5th, 2012 at 8:27 am
I watched “state of the franchise” For the Oakland Raiders yesterday on NFL network.
It was only about 5 minutes at best, and was an absolute waste of time.
Edward Teach pointed out yesterday that the commentators did not do there homework before the segment. (couldn’t agree more)I found it to be insulting to the Raider nation that they would put together such a non informitive piece if garbage. You would think they would call one of the Raider beat writers to put something together of at least minor intelligence.
That being said, I hope the Raiders surprise a lot of people this year. It’s about time for a little respect.
April 5th, 2012 at 8:27 am

Akoye is a VERY different player than Chapman and Ta’amu. Not a run stopper. Pure pass-rushing 3-tech. Very undersized.

April 5th, 2012 at 8:28 am
“talented roster”.
————————————————————-
In comparison to those teams rosters that have a regime change under “normal” circumstances.
8-8 without DMac and Palmer playing one game together.
8-8 with the mess on defense created by the passing of the DC.
I think we will be better simply by Palmer having afull offseason.
I think we will be better by having a HC and DC focused on different defensive strategies, and having a full offseason to implement those changes.

Of course, I think we could say that about any of the top 15 contending teams. That being said, I think the bears are in a better position than some other teams if they do have injuries to Cutler/Forte like last year because they have good enough backups to carry the load. The Bears will not be re-signing free agent DT Amobi Okoye.
GM Phil Emery recently hinted Okoye was no longer in Chicago’s plans. Per Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune, Okoye is “likely headed” to Denver, Cincinnati, or Tampa Bay. It sounds like the Broncos quietly entered the bidding.

We have enough UTs in the roster, so why should we add another one?
April 5th, 2012 at 9:22 am
Just heard the audio of Gregg Williams the Saturday prior to the Sanits-49ers tilt.
Wow! Then when Hugh Douglas of BSPN wouldn’t clarify the refrences to targeting Crabtree’s ACL, Vernon Davis’ ankle, Alex Smith’s chin & Williams concussion specifically it seemed this former player turned analyst is pining to don the pads once again (not gonna happen).
After Darren Woodson diffferentiated between targeting body parts & coachspeak hyperbole (take out the head & the body will fall) it put things into perspective (although he backtracked a bit when he said you didn’t see any of the Saints target the respective player’s body parts).
One thing neither former play turned analyst failed to charaterize; ALL players are involved in their livelihood that for most will be the prime source of income for their lives. Many of these players will never realize the potential to make money of this nature & fend for their famalies for the remainder of their lives; their formative years.
Supposedly there’s a “fraternity” of players. I realize intimmidation, competition & gamesmanship come into play but players are to hit each other LEGALLY as hard as possible in order to “manipulate” or “coerce” their opponents into a performance more reminiscent of defeat than putting out the effort to win. That is what competition on the football field is all about; anything other than that is assault with intent to do bodily harm.
Which opens that can of worms of alleged criminal behavior & accompanying criminal charges, which seems the coaches behavior can be linked to (conspiratory behavior, like a mob boss). . .
Even if this was against the 40whiners. . .an example must be made. What did he say before the Cardinals & Vikings playoff games on their Superbowl run? Were direct references made about Kurt Warner & his concussion history or the general health of the older Bret Favre?
Bounty money is one thing; to put players out of the game, to strike fear in & intimmidate their opposition\by targeting body parts is another. Woodson’s contention that once players make the decision to go after another player’s body parts does not guarantee they will ever again be able to ply their craft & pursue their livelihood. Their careers could be over. For that Williams should be put out to pasture himself. . .perhaps he should replace R Lee Ermey as a drill sergeant. . .

David from Redlands wants to know if the Raiders could use the No. 95 pick on Utah State running back Robert Turbin.
Bill Williamson: I think No. 95 may be a little high for Turbin, and the Raiders have other more immediate needs. But he could be an intriguing prospect at the end of the fourth or fifth rounds for Oakland. The East Bay native is a sleeper who has good size, speed and college game film. He’d be a fine addition in Oakland at the right spot.
And who was saying draft Turbin in the 3rd?
April 5th, 2012 at 9:24 am
Okoye benefited greatly from Peppers and Idonije, as well as the Bears’ LB corps. At best, he’s a rotational player. Nickel DT who can get some penetration. Struggles against the run, and isn’t even very consistent rushing the passer. Loses 1-on-1 matchups regularly, and will never command a double team.

DMAC,
He is undersized and he can rush the passer, but he is a liability against the run. TK and Seymour are better against the run. I can’t believe I just said that.

My big board again, with a couple minor updates:
3rd – NT Josh Chapman, Alabama; OLB Ronnell Lewis, Oklahoma; OLB/ILB Sean Spence, Miami; CB Leonard Johnson, Iowa State; OLB/DE Bruce Irvin, West Virginia; ILB James Michael-Johnson, Nevada; DE Tyrone Crawford, Boise State
4th – OLB Sammy Brown, Houston; FS Janzen Jackson, McNeese State; OT Jeff Allen, Illinois; DE/OLB Jonathan Massaquoi, Troy; ILB/OLB Nigel Bradham, Florida State; OLB Keenan Robinson, Texas; DE/OLB Jake Bequette, Arkansas
5th – DL Akiem Hicks, Regina; DE/OLB Cordarro Law, Southern Miss; DB DeQuan Menzie, Alabama; DE/OLB Julian Miller, West Virginia; NT Damon Harrison, William Penn; CB Asa Jackson, Cal Poly-SLO
5th – DB Robert Blanton, Notre Dame; DE/OLB Frank Alexander, Oklahoma; RB Tauren Poole, Tennessee; OLB/ILB Miles Burris, San Diego State; OT Steven Baker, ECU; ILB/OLB Emmanuel Acho, Texas; RB Terrance Ganaway, Baylor
6th – OT Matt Reynolds, BYU; NT Nicolas Jean-Baptiste, Baylor; CB Coty Sensabaugh, Clemson; DE/OLB Brandon Lindsey, Pitt; CB Cliff Harris, Oregon; NT Hebron Fangupo, BYU; WR A.J. Jenkins, Illinois
=================
Remember, this isn’t a projection of where I think these players WILL go. This is simply how I have these players rated.
For example, while Cliff Harris may very well go in the 4th or 5th round (Bengals, I’m looking at you), I wouldn’t think about drafting him until the 6th. And while Jake Bequette might not go until the 5th or 6th round, I have a 4th round grade on him – he’d be a good pick with the 4th round compensatory pick, but could be a GREAT value pick later in the draft.

Oakland Raiders – positions of need
LB, CB, TE, OL
Needs Analysis: The Raiders’ new GM, Reggie McKenzie, cleaned house a bit after the team’s 8-8 season. He released TE Kevin Boss, LB Kamerion Wimbley and CB Stanford Routt, while also losing free agents Michael Bush and Samson Satele. Oakland is also without its first four picks in the 2012 draft due to trades and the supplemental draft, though the league awarded the Raiders a third-round compensatory pick (95th overall), giving them one pick in the first two days of the draft. Signing cornerbacks Shawntae Spencer and Ron Bartell helps, but McKenzie might still try to upgrade the talent there. Finding a linebacker to start across from seemingly revitalized Aaron Curry is a major need. McKenzie gave RT Khalif Barnes a one-year deal, but might look to find him competition if unsure of his ability to protect QB Carson Palmer. Losing Boss to the Chiefs creates an opportunity for a mid-round pick at tight end to make an impact as a rookie.
Round 3, Pick 32 (95) (Compensatory selection)
Round 4, Pick 34 (129) (Compensatory selection)
Round 5, Pick 13 (148)
Round 5, Pick 33 (168) (Compensatory selection)
Round 6, Pick 19 (189)

April 5th, 2012 at 9:49 am
YA,
Where would you rank my boy Alameda?
====================
I have an early 3rd-round grade on him – but frankly, for the Raiders at least, I don’t think the value is there until the 4th round. I think Ta’amu will be off the board in the mid/late 2nd round to the Steelers, Jets, or Panthers.
More of a two-down player, and isn’t nearly as strong against the run as his reputation suggests. More of a penetrator who makes stops in the backfield than a true two-gap plugger.
Personally, I have Chapman rated higher than Ta’amu because of his ability to play in the 4-3 or 3-4, and because I believe he’s more capable of being a true 0-tech than Ta’amu. His injury may be the only reason Ta’amu gets drafted first – and to be honest, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Chapman drafted before Ta’amu regardless of injury. Just my opinion, though.
If I were the Raiders, I would avoid Ta’amu at #95 because I don’t think he’s an instant-impact player, which is what they need out of their #95 pick. I think Chapman stands the chance of seeing more playing time earlier than Ta’amu. Again – just my opinion.
April 5th, 2012 at 9:49 am
I’m happy with our TEs. Ausberry is a guy with speed and good hands, Gordon can Block as a TE or FB, Myers is well rounded, and Reece should get some snaps.
April 5th, 2012 at 9:51 am
I think Chapman stands a much better chance of being there at #95 because of his injury – and I think he has far more upside than Ta’amu. We’ll see how the draft shakes out, though. Several teams have a need at NT, and it’s a rare skill set. Will lead to at least a couple players getting overdrafted.
April 5th, 2012 at 9:51 am
We need to add a LB to compete for OLB and provide depth at that position.
April 5th, 2012 at 9:51 am
I don’t think we need another TE.
We have Myers who can block and catch a pass when need.
We Have Gordon who is an excellent blocker.
And we have Ausberry.(entire staff is excited about his kid)
+ CP3 doesn’t throw to his TE’s anyway.

the questions usually depend on the sort of job you’re appying for and what industry. I wont ask you those questions on this blog, but I have found that guys with character & integrity often trump experience. you can train a good person. nobody wants to hire a know-it-all, back biter, drama queen or d-bag. bosses want to create a positive & productive work environment. just be professional and limit the brown nosing

what worked best for Prez BO last election was talking in circles to avoid direct questions. speak a lot, even if you’re not really saying anything. then make some generic comment about “hope & change” that has nothing to do with the topic at hand so that the idiots in the crowd will have some to stand up and applaud
————————————————————
You could substitute BO and “hope and change” to just about any prez and “their slogan” and your entire statement would be true EVERY time.

It’s hard for independent voters to take consider your party with people like him.

When I guy like Wheeler starts talking about knowing a team like the Raiders because they are his favorite team on John Madden, I don’t know if that is a good thing or bad one. I mean is that reality?
***
@CJL
I don’t care what Wheeler was doing after the Colts season ended. He’s obviously in good shape or Reggie wouldn’t have signed him. Now that he’s a Raider and he’s got a playbook, I fully expect him to dive in and learn every detail of Tarver’s defense – which he seems pretty excited about. If he starts goofing around and playing video games when he should be working, then I’ll be concerned. I’ve seen nothing from Wheeler that makes me think he’s that sorta guy

If things seem to be going bad in the interview, just start crying and tell them that your wife is sick and your children are starving, and that you will do anything to get this job, including cutting off a finger…..if necessary….then pull out a cigar cutter and put it around a finger….they will hire you that second.
Worked for me….twice.

do you know anything about Cain other than his allegations of sexual misconduct??
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herman_Cain
educate yourself.
pretty weird to assume that Cain represents the entire Republican party … he dropped out because he couldn’t compete with Romney, Santorum or Gingrich
Romney will probably be the guy to compete against Prez BO and he will then “represent the Republicans”

I didn’t say anything about his sexual misconducts. I heard him speak a few times, and his ideas on Muslim Americans are out of whack. Most MA are Reps. That’s one issue. There are a lot more, but his sexual conduct wasn’t on my list.

Lefty,
As highlighted by ProFootballTalk.com on Wednesday, it appears the Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles and Oakland Raiders will continue to have their uniforms designed and made the same way they’ve always been.

I actually like the way the president speaks around things. Most of these questions he dodges are unfair and designed to imply that he’s to blame for things that Bush did, so I’m glad he’s not feeding their false sense of authority. It kills me that he showed his birth certificate. Every poll showed that there was no political consequence to him holding out on showing it. That would have been great if he’d never shown the thing throughout his entire two terms. Let those racists sit there and wonder for the rest of their lives if America elected and re-elected a Kenyan. lol. People who think that way deserve to live in confusion. Anytime someone in the press implies the president is to blame for something that was clearly a problem before he took office, he should dance around the question and play head games with them. They deserve nothing more.
