Allen careful regarding CBA restrictions

Raiders coach Dennis Allen says he’s done extensive research, with help from administrators Dan Ventrelle and Tom Delaney, on the new collective bargaining agreement to make sure his club doesn’t run afoul of the law.

Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer noted that Allen has been strident in making sure rules are enforced while at the same time accounting for every split-second available during the strength and conditioning phase.

“It’s kind of weird. We’ve really had only one meeting with coach Allen where he kind of introduced himself and introduced the team,” Palmer said Thursday afternoon. “There are so many rules and he’s doing a good job of making sure he doesn’t even come close to breaking a rule.

“But you can tell his hand print, his footprints, are all over everything. Everything is so organized. You can tell the plan is in place. He didn’t spend a bunch of time on it, but he let it be known his job is to come in and win a world championship.

“There’s a map to it. They’ve been very anal about the time in meetings, the amount of time we can spend in the weight room, making sure there are no infractions whatsoever. There’s a real tight focus on where he’s headed with this team and this organization. It gets you excited for the next stage, the minicamp, the OTAs, the mandatory minicamp, training camp and then of course the season.”

    YA,

What do you think of Coryell Judie from Texas A&M? The only CB in your mocks is Leonard Johnson who had great production at college, but I have my concerns due to his slow 40 and height.

I haven’t seen him play, to be honest. Heard he’s had some trouble with injuries, but when healthy is a solid player. Haven’t heard much else or seen him for myself, though.

Follow a lot of people on Twitter who talk to NFL scouts. Some very good information available from football writers and evaluators alike. I try to read a lot of scouting reports. I also watch a lot of college football – I try to follow draft prospects all season and pay attention to their performances in-game. The draft fascinates me, so I spend a large part of the season (and pass time during the offseason) doing research.

Some people like YA & Bcz know a lot about the draft and cap because they do their own research. It is not as sophisticated but just as effective if not better IMHO.

One of the those LBs will be available at 95. I can’t imagine all 3 being drafted in the top 100 picks. They all have issues. Ta’amu and Chapman will be gone before our pick IMO.

  • Just Win Baby

Dennis Allen running a tight ship. I like it. Instilling a bit of discipline from the outset can only help this island of misfit toys.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

FS J Jackson was kicked out of Tenn for drug issues, but this draft is not deep at S so who knows?

  • lefty12

We don’t need any safeties, but RM did say he would take the best players even if we were already set at a position.

  • lefty12

I may be in the minority, but if we do need another S I’d rather bring back Gio than draft an unknown especially with our lack of draft choices.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

    Why not?
Huff, Branch, and MM. We need another FS IMO unless you think one of the CBs on our roster can play FS.

  • Cranium Rash

I cant wait to see what the new uniforms look like on a 380 pound lineman and those tights showing off all that goo.

  • lefty12

Any safety we bring in will be for depth. Why not fill that spot with a known, capable player we can probably get for minimum than spend one of our few draft choices on one when we have other needs?

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

Gio is a good option, but is he willing to play for the vets min. We don’t have a lot of cap space, and it is much cheaper to sign a Rookie in later rounds or after the draft than signing a vet. Good Vets will get cut after the draft, so we should be very careful to make sure we have enough cap space.

    ————————————

Do they have nfl police in the club houses and on the practice fields to enforce all the mumbo jumbo of cba and nfl law? Can the coach drop a duece without violating any rules?

Coach: Hey son, I want to see you pass the football.

Prospective QB: OK coach. If I can swallow it, I’ll pass it sooner or later.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

I think we should get a young kid to develop, since we only need him for depth (as you said) and STs.

  • lefty12

Only if he is projected to be better than a minimum vet.If he isn’t projected to be better, get another player at another position who might turn out to be a good BU or possibly a starter. In a normal year with a full amount of draft choices I see your point, but with our limited picks we can’t afford ‘maybe’ type players.
