It’s looking like a 4-3 to Kelly
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, April 5th, 2012 at 10:51 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Checked in with Raiders defensive tackle Tommy Kelly late this afternoon, who not surprisingly provided some perspective on the first week of the strength and conditioning phase.
When I asked him if anything jumped out at him regarding the Reggie McKenzie-Dennis Allen regime, Kelly, who arrived in the Norv Turner era, answered like a man who has seen his share of optimism gone awry. He’s looking forward to playing for coordinator Jason Tarver, however.
“We’re in the honeymoon stage,” Kelly said. “You’ve got to be around a person, get down to training came and game time to know what you’ve got. Coach (Tarver) seems cool, real young. Seems like he knows what he’s talking about. He’s got experience in the league and he had a pretty good defense down there at Stanford.”
As for the possibility of big changes on defense _ Allen publicly hasn’t ruled out a 3-4 defense _ Kelly doesn’t see his job changing much after attending the first week’s installation meetings.
“We’re going to do what we always do _ run four man,” Kelly said. “I’m just assuming. Heard he’s a guy that mixes it up, so you never know.”

Yawn…
April 5th, 2012 at 10:54 pm
Al Davis ruined JaMarcus Russell.
Just look at Russell pre Raiders and Russel post Raiders. Timeline is undeniable.
April 5th, 2012 at 10:58 pm
Sully, JaMarcus nearly lost the starting job at LSU. A phenomenal talent, but let’s not pretend he was a flawless sure thing before arriving in Oakland.
April 5th, 2012 at 10:59 pm
He went into Oakland a healthy young man. Left a broken down drug addict. Thanks, Mr. Davis.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:01 pm
The Raiders knew he had a drug problem for like, what, a year? Their solution? Nothing. Let him kill himself with the damn things, basically. Good looking out, Mr. Davis. The kid was in his early 20s.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:02 pm
This is where Bob Marley “debunks” me with some quote from Russell about how great Al is.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:03 pm
Sully, did Al cop drugs for Jamarcus? The distinction of the org. did him no favors but he’s responsible for his own addictions and his lack of motivation. You cant blame Al for that.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:04 pm
Disfunction not distinction
April 5th, 2012 at 11:05 pm
Ah, the old cop out, “Did Al buy his drugs”? Weak. There’s a ton Al could have done to save this kid. Hell Al didn’t even want to pay him when he drafted him. Played a sick game with him. Threw him into a dysfunctional system that nearly made a 30 year old Rich Gannon snap.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:06 pm
Sullivan totes slander and libel better than Silver. That’s his shtick. Got his soapbox tonight.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:06 pm
I think in Rich Gannon’s last year here, in a practice, a bunch of receivers ran the wrong routes, Gannon just hucked that ball over the fence, into the parking lot. He’d had it. Imagine what this clusterfkked place does to a QB in his early 20s.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:08 pm
You obviously don’t know much about addictions. You can’t help someone who doesn’t want it.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:08 pm
And he has no real clue what the organization did or didn’t do to try and help the bust-just spew his hatred for the old man and the Raiders.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:09 pm
I dare someone from the Raiders to sue somebody for claiming they’re responsible for Russell. All that lawsuit would do is reveal even more of the chaos that went on. Mark would rather not bother. He knew what the place was like. That’s why he canned everyone after dad died.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:10 pm
Do you guys think Mark cleaned house this past off season because the team handled the Russell situation well?
April 5th, 2012 at 11:11 pm
JR was a MAN who was paid MILLIONS. He made his own decisions
April 5th, 2012 at 11:11 pm
ArkRaider,
Al Davis could have given Russell the ultimatum to either get help or be released. He didn’t even do that. Not even the tough love route. Al didn’t care. He would have let that kid die.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:11 pm
Sully take solace to the fact that Al is gone and he can never again hurt poor Jamarcus.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:12 pm
Haha. You guys are hilarious. Look at you try desperately to deflect accountability from the Raiders. Futile exercise. You guys know I’m right.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:13 pm
Russell wasn’t the only career the Raiders’ ruined. Mark cleaned house because he doesn’t want to be party to the things that Al’s henchmen did. He cleaned house, so he can sleep.

April 5th, 2012 at 11:14 pm
It’s too late. Al already ruined JaMarcus.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:17 pm
Sullivan approaches Russell one day, sitting on a park bench over 400 lbs eating a burger.
“I know, Jamarcus. Al Davis hurt you, he is the reason for where you are today.”
He extends his arm out and hugs Jamarcus Russell.
“It’s okay, bro. Cry it out, I’m here for you.”
The exuberance of Sullivan’s hug causes the burger in Russell’s hand to drop.
“Get off me you ***, or I’mma eat your head.”
April 5th, 2012 at 11:19 pm
Sully,
I was just wondering: now not to upset you because I may be wrong; innumerable times I have stated AD for his last 10 yrs operated in the throes of old age caused dementia, where his genius left him and his appalling lack of managerial skills nearly ruined the Raiders.
I am no JaMarcus advocate but I do think his lack of success was at least 50% due to the dysfunctional organization and the calibre of coaches and players associated with the team.
Of course Russell lacked intelligence, drive and fire and may have sublimated his troubles in purple drank. But we can’t be sure of that.
Because of my stand on AD I have been villified in this blog as a hater, racist, etc. I was wondering why suddenly you would come out with such a stance of AD: I have never heard such comments from you.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:20 pm
I’ve been saying that Al ruined Russell from day one. He did.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:20 pm
The Raiders doing nothing to address Russell’s well known addiction for over a year is borderline criminal.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:21 pm
You’re kidding, hardline. Sullivan’s being toting this shtick for decades. Ever since Al packed up the Raiders and took them to LA, forcing Sullivan to become a Niners fan.
In fact, Sullivan sockpuppeted the day of Al’s death, to spend hours on here celebrating it and dancing on his coffin.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:21 pm
Poor Jamarcus is young he can bounce back especially now that Al the evil demon is gone. If he has any desire or motivation he could still be a QB, just ask Debo! But I think he doesn’t have the drive to divers and since Al is gone he can’t blame him(not that he ever did-that’s your trip)
April 5th, 2012 at 11:21 pm
Russell would be a better, healthier person today if he’d never played for the Raiders.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:22 pm
You want to talk about dancing on Al’s grave, look what Mark did this off-season.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:22 pm
It’s too late Ark, Al ruined him.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:23 pm
Drive to suceed-dang smarty phones
April 5th, 2012 at 11:24 pm
Your smart phone can’t correct your denial, Ark. They’re not that smart.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:24 pm
Ark, GG, Hardline:
ACCEPTANCE.
Take the step.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:25 pm
Accept the fact that if Russell had never played for the Raiders, he’d be a healthier man today.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:26 pm
You know, you guys are getting on my nerves. Goodnight. Don’t bother responding.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:27 pm
You are too funny Sully
April 5th, 2012 at 11:28 pm
Really did he leave? Thanks be to jehesabus!
April 5th, 2012 at 11:28 pm
Al was probably to blame for Russell’s numerous pre-draft red flags…like coming to the combine over-weight, stating numerous times he wants to go #1 overall for the money, etc.
That’s all precedence for Russell’s post-draft failings….all his off-field ad gigs wearing fur coats, for buying bling as big as new born babies, and all his off-field partying with rappers, for falling asleep in team meetings, for taking home a DVD of plays etc and saying he watched it when there was nothing on there, for spending more time playing madden, having life coaches unable to get thru to him, being addicted to purple drank, getting arrested for possession, etc.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:32 pm
Forgot to include his college day red flags, where he was too lazy to learn the playbook, too lazy and disinterested to rally the team on the field, get on the field for offensive snaps, for letting himself get over 350 lbs, etc.
There’s plenty of stuff on Russell’s tardiness while at LSU, long before he ever crossed paths with Al Davis.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:35 pm
Okay, I’ll give you my stand on AD straight up, here and now:
AD labored under the influence of old age and dementia for past 10 seasons. Actually in the past 29 years the Raiders have had only 9 winning seasons. AD’s genius passed him by as the NFL entered a new age. AD should have been relieved of his managerial duties, compelled by the minority partners under the theories of negligence and oppression. The Raiders, in their dysfunctional state, while under AD’s control, could barely put together two 8/8 seasons in 10 yrs.
The cultivation and encouragement of the demented and maniacal can only produce bitter and stunted fruit:
Consider AD’s acquistions and hiring of the past 10 seasons; they were absolutely disastrous and are too numerous as to be beyond the scope of this posting.
Think of J. Russell, or last season’s DC, who hadn’t been in the NFL since the Gruden years; consider the second coming of Art Shell and John Walsh. Remeber the numerous FA signings who plundered the Raiders treasury in return for almost complete non-performance. It’s sick, sad and repulsive.
I’ll say it once and for all, God performs many miracles, and the fact that AD was taken off our hands, was one of those miracles. (Hopefully, I phrased that in a “respectful” enough tone as not to upset Corky.)
Thankfully, those dark years are behind us.
Now I am most encouraged with Reggie and Mark; I think they are consumate professionals and great leaders.
What Mark doesn’t know he defers to professionals, which is his duty to the club, his partners, and fans. Reggie is stuffing our roster with many talented staff members and players, FA’s, making trades, and inexorably will workout walk-ons once camp gets going.
We feel like a real professional football team where competition amongst staff and players to produce an excellent team, now rules the day.
Soon, we’ll be smelling the fear and blood of our opponents insofar as just by the Raiders taking the field, we’ll have won the game.
This is the Raiders, and the resumption of an era that made us the greatest sports organization ever!
April 5th, 2012 at 11:37 pm
Raiders knew for a year that Russell had a drug problem. He’s their starting QB. They did nothing to address it.
Don’t bother responding. I’m in no mood tonight.
April 5th, 2012 at 11:38 pm
Hardline, there is no way in hell I’m reading that. Shorten it to twitter length and I might.

That is one of the stupidest f’ing things that have ever been written on this blog.
Russell willingly and by his own volition decides to take drugs and it is borderline “criminal” that his boss didn’t bail him out.
And the “sick game” Al played was not immediately acquiescing to his agents money demands?
You are seriously a freaking nut case and need professional help.

You stated some excellent points and as far as I am concerned are correct with them all. JMar is a pathetic slug. Maybe AD helped him along but JaMarcus caused his own career demise, although I doubt JaMarcus was NFL material in the first place.

LOL. Poor JaMarcus. All that talent…all that money. Tsk tsk. What to do…what to do. I know, let’s throw it all away by doping up and being a lazy fatazz that throws his receivers, coaches, and team under the bus. Oh, but he was so young. A young person shouldn’t have to deal with the burden of all that money. Wonder how all the other young top draft picks keep their heads on straight? Such a mind boggler…
April 6th, 2012 at 12:01 am
Whatever remnants you had left of critical objective thought are long-gone, replaced with cult-like anti-Al agendas — no matter what ish gets bandied about that might stick to Al Davis, that’s the horse you’ve adopted to ride into the unending sunset of your ramblings.
April 6th, 2012 at 12:02 am
Haha, on the side of truth. That’s funny, GG. The Raiders knew Russell had a drug problem for over a year, they did nothing. He was their starting QB. This is an NFL franchise. Starting QB has a drug problem? Who cares. Let it work itself out. They didn’t even bench him! That’s the truth. Now wrap it up because I’m done sinking down to your level! Buenas Noches.
April 6th, 2012 at 12:05 am
Poor guy. Why didn’t Davis personally escort him to his daily meetings and smack him upside the head every time he nodded off? Why didn’t Davis assign a babysitter from the outset to make sure JaMarcus didn’t fall “victim” to the drank? Why should JaMarcus have felt any sort of obligation to the man that made him rich? Poor JaMarcus…no win situation for him. Destined for failure because Davis treated him like a man instead of the baby he really was.

April 6th, 2012 at 12:09 am
Why don’t you make the case for Ryan Leaf that it was all the Chargers and then-GM’s fault John Butler for Leaf’s failings and off-field spiral? Not one analyst anywhere in the football world points Jamarcus Russell’s failings on Al Davis or the Raiders.
April 6th, 2012 at 12:10 am
Boy, all that talent just wasting away. Why doesn’t a team straighten him out and put him on the field? Surely, there’s a program that could get him right. Wonder why his personal coach quit on him? Poor JaMarcus. All these folks can’t seem to get him right. It’s their fault. JaMarcus is clearly the victim here. A conspiracy, dare I say.

April 6th, 2012 at 12:14 am
Try some reality, the RAiders did NOTHING to “get Russell right”. Nothing. They knew he had a drug problem, they didn’t even bench him! Al wanted to avoid the embarrassment. So he just sat there and let it ride out. Yeah, 22 year old hooked on drugs. Don’t do anything. He’ll outgrow it. Ruined Russell’s life. Al could have saved him. A little tough love. Rehab or release. No. Al did nothing. Now goodnight.
April 6th, 2012 at 12:14 am
Sullivan keeps contradicting himself too.
He says Russell came to the Raiders healthy and not addicted, but left as an addict.
Then he says the Raiders drafted him knowing he was addicted for over a year.
Which is it?
In either case, the Raiders did as much as they could to get him cleaned up, but you know the story about the horse, the water, and making them drink. Anyone knows it takes a willingness from the afflicted person to get and accept the help, to want to change and fix themselves. Look at all the Hollywood stars who struggle with it. A lot of family, friends, and the agencies/companies they work for try to help them, but they often go in and out or push them away.
April 6th, 2012 at 12:15 am
Silly is jus stupid.. Jamarcus got paid n didnt give a sh1t about the Raiders at all, If the guy doesn’t have desire to be the best after getting paid so much n prove it why he was the #1 pick , then there’s not much anybody could do to get his head right

I’m not talking about your family silly , I’m just making an example that sumtimes no matter what u do it’s hard to change anybody and who’s to say that if Russel was drafted by Pats or your favorite Niners that he wouldn’t have busted out
April 6th, 2012 at 12:26 am
Try some reality, try a fitting analogy. I’m not talking about McDonalds. I’m talking about an NFL owner knowing his QB is on drugs, and doing nothing about. Al could have benched Russell. Could have gave him a choice between rehab or release. There’s 2 solutions right there where he doesn’t have to move a finger. No touchy feely intervention stuff. I’m not even talking about that. I’m talking about Al doing ANYTHING! He did nothing. Your’e in denial of that. Now this will be my last comment because this is getting ridiculous. Goodnight!
April 6th, 2012 at 12:27 am
I liken Sully’s argument to this story:
Negligent security is a legitimate claim, when you’re the victim, not the perpetrator! 2002, Edward Brewer sued Providence Hospital for $2 million. He claimed that the hospital was negligent because it had not prevented him from raping one of its patients. The judge ruled that any damage Brewer suffered due to his crime was his responsibility for choosing to commit the crime, and that the hospital had no legal duty to protect him from that choice.

—-
6. Sullivan 10 up, 13 down
Sullivan – n. A person who is an outsider to a group but who also thinks they are superior to the group, spends all their time dissing and hating the group, whilst also wanting to be part of the group and hanging around them at every opportunity.
Sullivan – n. A bad stench or unwanted thing that lingers around.
Sullivan – n. An unsightly mess
Sullivan – adv. To vandalize something with fecal matter.
We had a great time Saturday night, even tho John has become a Sullivan of late.
You stepped in a Sullivan, look at your shoe.
Hang on guys, I have the trots, got to go take a Sullivan.

Code Black ..Al still had it because they had success in early 2000’s , it’s just that it went to his head a little n he though he could find another gem at coach after trading Gruden ., also Gruden built veteran team didn’t do us any favor when half of the team retired or were long in tooth
April 6th, 2012 at 12:30 am

Okay, fresh take here (from the East Coast — okay, I couldn’t sleep!). Jamarcus is like so many talented kids who just don’t have the work ethic and who are way too impressionable around the people they hang with who are just leeches and scum. Could the Raiders have done more? Probably. But when they threw a boatload of cash at him, he at some point had to have some culpability and accountability to do something to help himself. Whitney Houston was the same way – unfortunately, we KNOW how all that turned out. Unfortunately, for JaWalrus, it ain’t gonna end well. Unfortunately for the Raiders, #81 on the roster is not Calvin Johnson!
April 6th, 2012 at 12:35 am
Al could have benched Russell. Just benched him. Didn’t even do that. Knew he was high, insisted he started anyway. All because he didn’t want the world to know he blew his 1st round overall pick on a bust. All class. Don’t respond. Goodnight.

Wow, thing that really hurt this organizAtion was the constant changing at head coaches , I mean really there was talent on this team in 90’s n even 2000 teams had talent but it was same result over n over because head coach was fired very 2 years , look what happened last time some one coached more than a couple of years , yup u got it right 1998-2002 Raiders …
April 6th, 2012 at 12:37 am
Al Davis knowing his QB has a drug problem and insisting that he start is certainly his fault. Who’s fault is it? Ryan Seacrest’s? Don’t respond. Toodles.

April 6th, 2012 at 12:40 am
McFadden, was Jackson the Patriot’s starting QB? And did he have a drug problem while he was their starting QB, and did team management know it? And, did they insist he start anyway, without addressing his drug issue? If the answer is no, you’re comparing apples to oranges! Toodles. Dont’ respond.

April 6th, 2012 at 12:42 am
If the problem had been severe enough, #2’s conduct would have been dealt with by the NFL; he would’ve been suspended — at that point, the Raiders might have acted accordingly. JaWalrus had a much bigger problem with the drug known as “In-n-Out” — he was famous for paying some guy to literally have about $100 worth of junk food at his locker, waiting for him. Several people tried to work with him and mentor him – he blew them all off. Unless you want to get into a massive debate on exactly what was done – when and where – suffice it to say that JaWalrus is just a tragic case; he was always gonna be a problem to some organization. Indy had Art Schlichter; SanDiego had Ryan Leaf; we had JaWalrus.

I think Al’s guilt over what he did to Russell is what killed him.
April 6th, 2012 at 12:45 am
I’m sure Jamoney would have reimbursed Mr.Davis all the money he would have been earned during his rehab treatment.
April 6th, 2012 at 12:46 am
“He had tryouts with the Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins in November, but reportedly showed up overweight and out of shape”
Can you imagine how those tryouts went? How embarrassing. Did they turn him around, kick him in the tail, and say “get outta here” or did they actually let him embarrass himself with a full workout?
Well…whatever happened, it’s the Redskins’ and Dolphins’ faults. They should have assigned a babysitter from the outset. Maybe even show him a little tough love by saying things like “Come on chubby, fatazz. Run harder. Stop breathing so heavy!” or “You know you’ll be delivering Gatorade your first year here, right, pudge? If you’re lucky and you work REAL hard, we’ll give you a crack at playing some QB in a few years”
April 6th, 2012 at 12:47 am

It doesn’t matter , If he was a QB or not , you don’t get the point.. Raiders needed a QB in every possible way , draft pundits ranked Russell as # 1 prospect n the other one was Brady Quinn , the Raiders did make a good choice because he was definitely more talented .. But what the Raiders didn’t knew that Russell was just in this for the money .. N knowing they needed a QB really badly Davis rolled the dice with Russell, yeah things didn’t work out for us but it also didn’t workout for 20+ other #1 picks , it must have been all teams fault ..

There’s only one NFL owner in recent history that would continue to force a QB to start even knowing he had a drug problem. Al was unique alright.
April 6th, 2012 at 12:55 am
Kelly’s production actually went up in the 2010 season; I think he really showed a lot of improvement. Before that, I was afraid that he would become the next Terdell Sands; but now, I have optimism. Dennis Allen and a good training camp will help him out a lot. I’m hoping I can prop up #93 as the MUP …

The thing is Al is a gambler n he envisioned John Elway in Russel n he knows that money is enough to fuxkin make anybody do anything , but I’m sorry if your hero getting paid 40+ millions to act like a # 1 QB wasn’t enough then I’m sorry to tell u , there’s nothing else anybody can do …40+ millions silly, 40+ millions to stay in shape n play a freaking sport, thing was he got paid n he ran , if his contract was incentive wise writter like he would get paid extra million for every TD he throws , I bet your hero would have showed up in best shape of his life until the money kept coming in

Haha. You guys are hilarious. Look at you try desperately to deflect accountability from the Raiders. Futile exercise. You guys know I’m right.
==========
Uh, he had an addiction to codeine, but it was used with cough syrup and jolly ranchers, and popularized as purple drank. If you knew what was REALLY up. Purple drank is used either before or after marijuana use, particularly blunts (ill assume you know what blunts are).
the syrup soothes congestion from continual coughing from the powerful amounts of highly THC laced marijuana – and extends the high. As a result you are calm and relaxed. So relaxed you wont feel a pass rush, and that was obvious with J.Russell.
A true addiction is to methamphetamine, crack cocaine or heroin.
JaMarcus Russell left a wealthy man, that blasted through all his money – he was the highest paid bust in history and a sad example of an owner declining in health and throwing money around , desperate to get back to the glory years. He had no true GM with a vision for rebuilding, so it had to run its course.
To make Russell the victim is idiotic. There were far more dysfunctional aspects such as coaching turnover, bad drafts and even worse free agent moves.

Please remember to mention JR from now on by his proper title of King Elexis I
April 6th, 2012 at 4:20 am
So, Ryan Leaf’s demise is the fault of the Dischargers?
Pacman’s troubles were the fault of the Titans?
LT’s drug & prostitution problems were the fault of the Giants?
Antoine Walker’s problems were the fault of the Celtics?
The Rays minor leaguer that tried to flee almost crushing the 72 man old man’s head in a alcohl stupor is the fault of the Rays?
Josh Hamilton’s alcohol problems are the fault of whatever MLB team is employing him?
And the list goes on & on. It’s called personal accountability.
BTW: GG, the title is King (purple) Elixir I . More fitting. Perhaps the death of his uncle was to blame. . .had 1/2 a good college career 7 was almost benched during his junior (final) year @ LSU. then torched a second rate ND (well, they’re all second rate anymore. . .Go Irish! LOL) defense. . .throws 70 yards with a lard tummy. . .and folds under pressure & never works on his game. . .
Welcome to the pros, kid!
April 6th, 2012 at 4:36 am
Got into it one night last football season with sully. He got all idignant with me because I questioned Matt Barkley’s leadership & ability to lead the University of Spoiled children to victory (over ASU, nonetheless) the same night RG III finally ended all doubt that he was a burgeoning NFL QB & not an African American QB destined for a position change. Now RG III is destined to be the second overall QB chosen in the upcoming college player’s entry draft & Barkley, he of a less than stellar arm returned to SC to gain a measure of skill & maturity to counterbalance his physical shortcomings. . .
Of course the Raiders were the house of dysfunctionality during Al’s regime. He never considered “team chemistry” as a long suit or priority. he considered people (adults) would rise above their own measure of angst & utiliize it as motivation to perform on Sundays. he considered drug addicts & alcoholics weak & didn’t question players like Lyle Alzado & the Tooz because they could “bring it” on Sunday. Al was always old school & how did anyone expect him to change? Unbelivable lack of history on Sully’s part (what a surprise). . .
Perhaps it was because Al broke the color barrier @ SC by inserting Willie Wood (he of HOF fame as the Packers’ FS in their heyday, another color barrier breaking effort)

I think a lot of the Raider dysfunctionality started after Gruden left, then we had the Barrett Robbins meltdown before the Super Bowl, followed by Rich Gannon playing one of his worst games as a pro. If, at that point, Al had decided that he truly needed a GM to start running things, I think we could’ve avoided the 10 year-lapse. Missed out on a chance to get local product Aaron Rodgers in the ‘05 draft (Fabian Washington – really?!), totally blew it by not picking Calvin Johnson in ‘07 (of course, we might not’ve had the #1 overall pick that year, anyway), then could’ve had either B.J. Raji or Brian Orakpo AND Heyward-Bey (in Round Two) of ‘09 — ah, dare to dream. So, it’s a long road back — but now, the journey is beginning — with a new leader at the helm.

http://eaglesstats2012.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/full-nfl-2012-regular-season-schedule.html?m=1
This may be a hoax, and the NFL Schedule doesn’t come out till April 24, but if this is correct, the Raiders have 4 prime time night games next year. I’m skeptical, but I thought it was worth sharing.

speaking of history ,shout out to Mr.Rosey Grier not only was he role model for the fearsome foursome when he played for the rams he is also the guy that took the gun away from Sirhan Sirhan when he shot and killed Robert Kennedy he was the first one to him and straight took the gun from the guy ,a true american hero

“This is the most heinous, egregious thing in the history of this game,” former Raider defensive lineman Warren Sapp told the Bay Area News Group, adding that Williams’ actions were “an anomaly … one in 3 billion.”
———
Wrong! The most heinous thing in the history of the NFL was the contract Al Davis gave you fat man.
April 6th, 2012 at 5:10 am
So according to that schedule we open up to the Bucs monday night… Hopefully we can stop the run by then cause Blunt aint no joke. Dont get me wrong he can be stopped
April 6th, 2012 at 5:19 am
4 prime time games looks like its time to exploit the death of AD and talk about change of culture ,,usually you have to be a division or conference champ to get that TV slot more than once or twice in a season
April 6th, 2012 at 5:19 am
Okay – this alleged schedule came from an Eagles blog spot (what did you expect people?!!) Over the last few years, the NFL has used the opening games to feature in-division match ups (they’ve already released the Giants vs. Dallas opener). My guess is that we will open either at home against KC, Denver or San Diego or in one of those three towns — that’s just my hunch. They wouldn’t open the Raiders vs. Tampa — makes no sense to me!
April 6th, 2012 at 5:21 am
P.S. I would LOVE to open at home vs. Peyton!!
April 6th, 2012 at 5:23 am
202 that would sell tickets
April 6th, 2012 at 5:25 am
i hope peyton makes through training camp and the preseason
April 6th, 2012 at 5:27 am
After looking over that schedule leak, I must admit – I am almost willing to believe it, in toto. The Broncos would be opening at home vs. the Texans on a Sunday night, and the Raiders (West Coast) would be part of the ESPN double Monday nighter — been done before. KC and San Diego would be the other Week #1 matchup. It looks pretty legit — if not, someone went to a lot of time and effort figuring out times, networks and bye weeks!!
April 6th, 2012 at 5:35 am
That schedule is B.S. It has the Raiders playing all NFC teams the first four weeks. They don’t play an AFC West team until week 7.
April 6th, 2012 at 5:40 am
Plus, if you at it even more closely – the Raiders would be playing 4 of their last 5 games at home. Here’s the proposed schedule. See what you think:
Week 1 – vs. Buccaneers (Monday night)
Week 2 – at Atlanta (early game)
Week 3 – vs. Saints
Week 4 – at Carolina (early game)
Week 5 – vs. Steelers
Week 6 – at Baltimore (early game)
Week 7 – at Denver
Week 8 – vs. KC
Week 9 – BYE
Week 10 – at SD
Week 11 – Thursday night (NFLN) – at Cincy
Week 12 – at Miami
Week 13 – vs. Jags
Week 14 – vs. Browns
Week 15 – vs. Chargers
Week 16 – vs. Broncos
Week 17 – at KC
April 6th, 2012 at 5:43 am
Whoever made that schedule has too much time on their hands.
April 6th, 2012 at 5:43 am
That week 17 game at KC will probably settle the division title.
April 6th, 2012 at 5:44 am
Wouldn’t be surprised if Sullivan made that. It seems like something he would do just to punk football fans.
April 6th, 2012 at 5:50 am
Everytime we play the dolphins they seem to always kick our @ss. Hopefully not this year
April 6th, 2012 at 5:51 am
I’m not trying to sell this to anyone for a dollar, but think this schedule could be legit.
April 6th, 2012 at 5:53 am

April 6th, 2012 at 5:53 am

April 6th, 2012 at 5:55 am

correct, April 24
April 6th, 2012 at 5:56 am
If that schedule is true, our opening run of games is brutal.
I am sure when the NFL hears about this ‘leak’ (if it is a leak), they’ll immediately change it to make out that the NFL is too tightly run to have leaks.
April 6th, 2012 at 5:57 am
As I said before, the fact that the networks are balanced out, the Raiders are on the back end of a Monday night opener (been done before), Peyton is opening at home in prime time on a Sunday night against a former division rival (and against the team that many are picking to go to the Super Bowl – Texans) and the Raiders’ last three games would be within the division — it all makes sense. I don’t think Sully has the brains to have pulled something like this off. He was too busy ranting about Al!
April 6th, 2012 at 5:57 am
LOL…..that schedule has 4 home games in a row, which is not allowed.
There is no validity to it what-so-ever
April 6th, 2012 at 5:59 am
Three East Coast trips in the first 6 weeks certainly sounds a little unreasonable, doesn’t it?
April 6th, 2012 at 6:00 am
Boy, somebody sure put a lot of time and effort into this one – that’s for sure! When the real schedule comes out, it’ll be interesting to see how close (or far off) it actually is/was …
April 6th, 2012 at 6:00 am
I also don’t think that Monday Night Games mean as much as they used to. The NFL could give a damn about MNF anymore. They don’t cater to ESPN. It’s all about Sunday Night Football, and I think even Thursday Night Football will be stronger than MNF soon.
April 6th, 2012 at 6:02 am
If NFL gets hold of this, it will still have time to make some changes before the actual release date. I’m gonna make a copy though, just to compare …
April 6th, 2012 at 6:03 am
#219
Maybe the NFL is trying to free up O.co Stadium early in the year, as the A’s make their run to the World Series – LOL!
April 6th, 2012 at 6:04 am
I don’t buy it’s legit because of the things people have noted already…
4 home games in a row
all 4 NFC teams played in the first four weeks
playing 12 AFC teams the rest of the way
opening MNF against bucs
April 6th, 2012 at 6:04 am
MNF ratings still throttle most games played at any other time.
But because of this, it does seem like you get a lot more snoozers on MNF than SNF, that’s for sure.
April 6th, 2012 at 6:07 am
I agree that the last Monday game is usually a “throw away”. That Oakland vs. San Diego matchup from a couple of years back is a rare exception.
April 6th, 2012 at 6:08 am
MNF has been going down now for a few seasons in a row. You notice the NBC game of the week has the big matchups. The MNF games are a letdown and regardless of ratings, they don’t get the prime matchups anymore.

Maybe that is because not everyone has cable. MNF on ESPN eliminates potential viewers.

The only thing that would generate any remote interest about Bucs vs. Raiders on MNF is that it would be the 10-year Anniversary of Gruden vs. the Raiders in the Super Bowl (and Gruden would be “in the house”) — lots of opportunities for John to reminisce about the old man … that would be more of a sideshow appeal than the actual game.
April 6th, 2012 at 6:38 am
Last year, they had JAX in primetime on MNF. It’s like then NFL doesn’t really care who they schedule on MNF, it’s guaranteed ratings anyway. They standards have lowered.

I’m sure Reggie clearly laid everything out for Coach Allen, at the outset. This is truly HIS team, and he is going to hold everyone (including himself) accountable. I have no doubt that the young head coach is really watching his Ps and Qs as he starts off on the path, with a new team, a new GM, and a new owner –

Source: Iowa S Jordan Bernstine has worked out for Eagles, 49ers, Patriots
by Aaron Wilson of Scout.com, April 6, 2012 at 9:48 am ET
Jordan Bernstine Profile
Iowa safety and return specialist Jordan Bernstine has conducted private workouts for the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and the New England Patriots, according to a league source.
He’s also scheduled to visit the Oakland Raiders.
Bernstine ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34 and 4.38 seconds at his campus Pro Day workout.
With 29 NFL teams watching, Bernstine also registered a 41-inch vertical leap, a 10-7 broad jump, a 6.75 in the L-drill, an 11-3 in the long shuttle and bench pressed 225 pounds 18 times.
The athletic defensive back recorded 99 tackles last season with three tackles for losses and one sack, one forced fumbe and one fumble recovery.
The former Parade Magazine All-American also averaged 23.8 yards per kickoff return.
Berstine’s uncle, Rod Bernstine, played running back in the NFL for nine seasons.

Simple. He’s sitting by his phone waiting for an NFL team to call, without understanding that his comments in that SI article made him LESS desirable, not more. Whining about getting up early every morning and then dissing the CFL and UFL make him look entitled as all get-out.
Example: If he had signed with a UFL team, they would have made him the starter if only for the public curiosity upping their TV ratings and attendance figures. A string of 300-yard passing games would have meant (probably) an NFL training camp invite or maybe even a late season signing, followed by an offseason with one franchise.
Instead, he publicly disses these very legitimate roads back to the NFL and instead makes it plain that nothing less than an NFL roster spot is acceptable. So he’s lazy, entitled AND oblivious. No wonder nobody’s given him another shot.

He threw a lazer…on a line about 30 yds. to the endzone for a td.
It was impressive.
I will say, that Russell made a few bizarre comebacks for the Raiders. Wk 2 (forget what season) at KC. The other I remember is at Denver when he came off the bench to lead us to a TD to win.

Dennis Allen’s defensive philosophy also benefits from a lot of speed.
April 6th, 2012 at 7:55 am
Jamarcus had major talent. Just wasted it, like thousands of others. His NFL career was trash, no need to even discuss it, but if you put together a Jamarcus Russell highlight reel, from his LSU days and even Raiders highlights, and show it to someone who has never heard of him, they would think he was a Hall Of Famer.
That TD throw across his body to Porter against Denver. That was a cannon. The 80 yarder to Higgins against Buffalo, a laser through a tiny window, few QBs can make that throw. He had some crazy highlights at LSU and some epic games, Tenn, Kentucky, Mississippi State comes to mind, where he displayed his arm and also was very hard to bring down when he was on the run. He was a Manning award winner, is still ranked 3rd all time in LSU QB wins. He could play. He wasnt just a Kyle Boller Big body/big arm, with no skill. People can say what they want about the Sugar Bowl where he beat ND, and them being a garbage team, but lets not forget that A LOT of Raiders fans were tuning into that game to see who they THOUGHT we may have been picking #1 in the draft, Brady Quinn. Jamarcus put on a show, no matter how you put it. He destroyed ND that game, and the way he was able to launch passes just by flicking his wrist was crazy. Jamarcus could actually play. He just blew it, and thats all there is. He blew it.

The good thing with all this play-action stuff and move-the-pocket stuff is that some of the best plays are the screens and checkdowns to running backs. When you cover Jacoby (Ford) downfield and Denarius downfield, one of the positives is the checkdown, the easy throw, the dumpoff to the running back – Palmer
***
Ford & Moore going deep?
Heyward Bey = slot receiver!
wait. who are we kidding? JFORD isn’t gonna stay healthy for 16 games
In fact, even if he does … his route running, drops & fumbles won’t be acceptable to the new regime
it’s cool to see him burn down the field & fight for the football though. also our best return man by a country mile!

Russel’s NFL career was over the second he heard these words…..
With the first pick in the 2007 draft, the Oakland Raiders pick JaMarcus Russell, LSU.
His eyes clouded over as his little brain was filled with visions of purple drank and crispy cremes.

Mornin’ a.m. crew
Russell could’ve had the world and pizzed it all away. Remember, let’s not pretend it was just Al Davis falling in love with Russell’s arm that got him drafted #1 overall. Mel Kiper said he could go on to a John Elway type career. Todd McShay said he’d never seen a more impressive Pro Day. Some scout (forget who) said that watching Russell throw was like when he saw “Star Wars” for the first time…he just sat back in awe.
Point is, by the time the draft rolled around, only Rusell & Calvin Johnson were seriously being debated as the #1 pick and most people at the time said that the Raiders needed to start over with a QB. I.e., Johnson is great, but they had no one to throw him the ball.
Al fcked up by drafting Russell no question. But the vast majority of the NFL draft community fcked up too.
Actually, in a way their evaluations were accurate. In a purely physical sense, Russell was a mountain of untapped potential. But they didn’t consider heart, drive and commitment and that’s where everyone went awry.

if the Raiders trade Kelly and go NT-LB-LB in the draft, then it’s definitely 3-4 time. Otherwise, I see them going LB-CB and sticking with the 4-3
April 6th, 2012 at 8:38 am
Tarver ran a 3-4 at Stanford is mostly where that came from
***
@PA
Terrell Williams, D-Line coach also ran a 3-4
Tarver is a 49er discipline – working under Nolan, Singletary & Manusky in their 3-4 (not just Stanford)
Reggie as a player, was in a 3-4. Reggie had a 3-4 under Capers in Green Bay
Tarver stating (to Wheeler) he will be rushing the QB a ton and that he’s defense is made to highlight the LB’s also very telling – like Pittsburg. LB’s are their bread & butter. nobody on that D-Line gets any respect. Casey Hampton & Aaron Smith are two of the best players nobody has ever heard of because guys like Harrison, Woodley, Farrior & Porter got all the credit and fame
also Reggie interviewing NT’s and other ILB’s …
I’m not expecting business as usual on defense, like Tommy Kelly & Marks Hair are

You don’t come in and run a 3-4 just for the sake of running a 3-4 because you think its a good system. You run the system that plays to the strengths of the players you have to put into that system. Don’t expect to see a high draft pick wasted on a NT when the rest of your defense screams 4-3. Then again, the Raiders don’t have a high draft pick…..at any rate, expect to see mostly 4-3 unless Regggie gets into a sudden trading frenzy.

Bruce Irvin OLB W. Virgina
Bobby Wagner OLB Utah State

none of those guys there go to CB’s

Trumaine Johnon Montana

I would keep an eye on Brandon Lindsey, OLB from Pitt. He was a major recruit coming out of HS as a LB, but Wannstedt thought he would be better as a DE. Versatile player, could rush the passer and play OLB, but isnt the fastest player, so could be a liability in coverage, but good against the run and rushing the QB. May be a good pick for the 6th round.

dang. DB crop in FA is getting pretty thin
hope Reggie isn’t done. Bartell missed 15 games with a neck injury last year and Spencer was a backup in San Fran

Actually, in a way their evaluations were accurate. In a purely physical sense, Russell was a mountain of untapped potential. But they didn’t consider heart, drive and commitment and that’s where everyone went awry.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Actually, the “Star Wars” comment was made by Greg Knapp a few days after JR arrived to the team. Losing Knapp and DeFillipo and replacing them with Buddy Whackitt and Tollner was an all-time dmbsht move by this organization that set the team back for years. JR would have thrived here if this organization had had a clue about how to build a team. Surround a talented passer with weapons and protection, and watch him dominate. Detroit and Carolina figured that out. The Raiders and Rams didn’t get the memo.

tackles, passes defensed, sacks, INT’s, forced fumbles

Actually this would be a good question for Cork?
Underwood played Safety and Corner in college. Was considered a CB for Packers and told he was being moved to Safety in 2011 offseason, got arrested, hurt his knee and was released. (Mostly Special teamer in GB) Do the Raiders view him as a CB or Safety?

MM34 missed the first 3 games of the season due to injury
was active in the last 13, starting 4 of them (because Huff got hurt)
I don’t want to blame his performace for the entire season on that.. I mean, WK4 against the Pats (first game back) he sacked Tom Brady, then goose eggs the rest of the way. nice INT on Aaron Rodgers during that blowout loss though
