Raiders, Tollefson reach agreement on contract

The Raiders agreed in principal to a contract with veteran defensive lineman Dave Tollefson on Friday afternoon, Bay Area News Group has learned.
Details of the contract are being finalized. A source close to the situation said Tollefson’s signing is imminent and a mere formality.
Tollefson, 29, spent the past five seasons with the New York Giants, where he played a part in their winning two Super Bowl titles.
He is expected to carve out a niche as part of Oakland’s defensive line rotation. He played defensive end, defensive tackle and linebacker for the Giants.
Tollefson started two games last season and posted a career-high five sacks. His signing will help offset the loss of veteran defensive linemen Jarvis Moss and Trevor Scott. Moss remains a free agent. Scott signed with the New England Patriots earlier in free agency.
The Raiders won’t comment on the matter until the contract is signed and the league approves the paperwork.
Tollefson was with the Raiders in training camp and on their practice squad for part of the 2007 season before the Giants signed him to their 53-man roster.
Originally, he was a seventh-round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2006. Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie was with the Packers when Tollefson was there for one season.

You got big ben in top 5 ? (smh) top 10? Maybe but. Top 5 no way ..

Top 5: Brady, Peyton,Brees,Eli,Brees in no particular order

Vick,Big Ben,Carson ,Schaub, Phillip Rivers round out the the top 10

  • You can also make a case for Ryan and Vick.

  • lefty12

Can you imagine what Palmer would have accomplished if he had spent his career with a team like Pitt. or a coach like Payton? He would easily be thought of as elite. He may not be elite today, but he is damn close.

  • mcfadden20.

Yeah it was like 450 feet

Big Ben has all the tools. May not always put up a pretty stat line, but he’s an unquestioned winner. Has to be considered elite in my mind. He takes over games. Steelers have been pass-heavy in recent years. Their running game has been inconsistent and their defense is declining. Yet Big Ben has kept them as contenders, even with next to nothing talent-wise on the offensive line.

  • RaidersOne

I’d rather have Big Ben than Brees.

Actually it’s the other way around. To many people over hype Palmer on this blog. Palmer had one(2005) maybe 2 (2006)good years. He has NEVER been consider elite. NEVER in the Brady, Manning, Brees, Rogers, Roethlisberger range. If anything the guy is highly overrated. He is also one of the only starting QB’s in the past few years that’s had a constant debate of being overrated. Just because he is a Raider does not make him better. If you ask most Raiders fans with there head in “reality” they say JC and CP should have battle for the starting QB job this year. Throwing 16 INT’s in 10 games is inexcusably even coming off the couch. People blame the “coming off the couch” nonsense but that’s what CP does. He throws a lot of INT’s.

Yep. They’re old as hell. Faded down the stretch. Problems in the secondary. Two consecutive down seasons for Polmalu. Hampton is likely gone. Aaron Smith retired. Harrison had a down season, and they have nothing at ILB.

  • RaidersOne

We really don’t know about Palmer because Cincy did not have proper support around him to bring out all his potentials. Maybe the Raiders can bring such support and we’ll see how “elite” CP actually is.

He’s definitely a improvement over JC. I used to crack up reading numerous posts here singing praises of JC’s “eliteness”. A day after he is a free agent, he signs w/Bears as a backup……funny.,

I’d rather have CP over Romo, any time. Romo is too inconsistent and is also stuck with coaches and staff who are downright boneheaded. Plus Romo isn’t help by Rob Ryan who seems to be as dumb as a sack of rusty hammers.

  • lefty12

YA and toward the end of last year when their defense wore down the team looked bad although Ben was hurt.

  • YoungAmerican

I would put Romo in the same class as Palmer. Only thing about Romo is that he has these inexplicable brain farts that cost his team in key situations. Really don’t know what that’s about. He has a great skill set, and has proven himself capable of beating some tough teams. But when the season is on the line, he always finds a way to fall short. He’ll put together an amazing game for 50 minutes, and then blow it in the home stretch. Like clockwork. Never seen anything like it.

  • I think it’s an insult to all NFL QBs to contine to call Tebow a QB.
He is a RB pretending to be a QB!

Young, you are correct. You combine Romo’s brain farts with coaches’ brain farts, and J.Jones meddling, Cowboys are going nowhere.

Romo is out of it mentally. I think that ugly, fat blonde he was hooked up with a few years back sucked him dry. He was never the same after her.

  • New post.

  • New post.

  • Raiders coaching staff wasn’t very good @ making adjustments last year. . .not having two formidable, effective running backs & lack of speed allowed defenses to play more aggressively against the Raiders “O.” The TE & Reese were taken out of the game because of lack of threat from the WR’s (often injured). The injuries & lack of speed they created cut down the fact early on all the skill players were to be reckoned with.

If DMC(what is his real nickname?) is healthy his speed creates space for the passing game. If Moore continues his development defenses have to think about bracketing him. If DHB improves his route running & becomes a more consistent hand catcher he will be open on the slants that are available in the WCO. If Ford stays healthy his RAC potential will threaten the opposition. If Ausberry is, in fact the “beast” CP has advertised the TE position will acquaint itself. This will allow Reese to find opeen spaces against slower LB’s & smaller safeties. Then the Raidere can take advantage of Cp’s deep arm & go downfield more prevalently than usual in the WCO.

All these are byproducts of the WCO. Just look @ the Texan offense & supplant the Raider players in their stead. All these factors were not in attendance for CP last year. And I’m not even factoring the development of Tim McGee, Taiwan Jones or Mike Goodson. . .or a special package for Terrell Pryor. . .

So I think the potential for a formidable
Raider “O” is there. Wouldn’t mind sacraficing a #1 pick in 2013 for CP. . .final four in 2013 playoffs or bust!

Now about that defense. . .

  • lefty12

YA,actually I heard last year where someone broke Romo’s stats down and he preformed better the more the game progressed-ie. he was better in the 2nd than the 1st qtr, better in the 3rd than the 2nd,and played his best in the 4th qtr of games.Hard to believe sometimes when you watch him but that is what the stats say.

Yeah, that’s it I think, Jessica Simpson, big around as a refrigerator now. She went on after the breakup with Romo to launch a cosmetics, fashion and accessory line and now is worth $500M.

Geez, I guess it’s better to be lucky than smart.

  • C’mon you guys…defense is 7 men in the box or 8…4-3 or 3-4 is ir-revelant. Against a running team you play 3-5, 4-4, or 3-5, a passing team you play nickel or dime.

You need versatile players up front that can play multiple positions, and a scheme that can stop the run!

The number of secondary players you play dictates your front.

  • that sure was the old RMR last night!

    Don’t bother responding..lol.
