Raiders confirm Tollefson signing

The Raiders announced the signing of veteran defensive lineman Dave Tollefson on Saturday. We reported last night that Tollefson reached agreement with the Raiders and the details were in the process of being finalized.
NFL.com reported that Tollefson signed a two-year contract that guarantees Tollefson $1.5 million and has the potential for a $3 million payout.
Tollefson, 29, is listed as a defensive end by the Raiders. However, he is versatile enough to play outside linebacker, end and defensive tackle, as he did for the New York Giants the past five seasons.
Tollefson also will play a key role on Oakland’s special teams, a role he fulfilled to great success with the Giants.
Tollefson takes the place of departed veteran end Trevor Scott, who signed with the New England Patriots. It’s still conceivable that the Raiders will re-sign veteran end Jarvis Moss at some point.

LOL, that was the year I became a fan…
    I wish!

Wimbley will get 10 sacks this season with Tenn. I’m sure they will not ask him to cover TEs.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

We traded for him to play RDE, but like ET said, due to our need for LBs, he was moved to SLB.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

Tollefson adds depth to the DE position, but he can’t replace Wimbley. You don’t bring in a guy with 10 sacks in 5 seasons to replace a guy who has 42 sacks in 6 seasons.

  • DEATHROW 55

Shaunasty gets 12 sacks, Houston another 10 sacks, Kelly and seymore get to the qb and the addition of Chapman as our nt will collapse the Pocket, fugg wimbley he will now be dressed as a smurf on Sundays, real men wear black.

lol lol lo .. yes i am !! divorce was well worth it !!
highly recommend second marriages. seems like they work out a lot better than the first !! lol lol lol

  • hwnrdr

True, O…but Tollefson was a rotational player and only started 2 games last year due to injuries in Osi and Tuck…who knows what we can get from this guy if full time? I think he plays same role here though…he wanted to come home!

  • RaiderRockstar

So which Heatle gets traded when they lose to the Knicks in the first round?

    @Jhill

after the Heat win a Championship, I think they can part ways with Harris, Jones, Anthony, Pittman, Curry & Howard

Divorce? Maybe I should try it.
    LOL

Divorce sucks if u have kids with the bicch, hard to adjust to that.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

    Hwnrdr,

I think Wimbley will prove his worth this season. The guy was asked to do a lot with us. He was asked to set the edge, drop and cover, and rush the passer. Wimbley is not a LB, he is a DE/ nickel pass rusher.

  • R8ER MIKE

    worked wonders for me !!

    Raider O,

it’s amazing that Raider fans think Wimbley will give the same production for any other DC not named Chuck Bresnahan, who wasn’t in the NFL when Davis hired him and isn’t in the NFL right now … same can be said for his position coach Greg Biekert

    I keep my kids.

The more I look at the NT position in this coming draft…I don’t think Chapman (316 lbs.) or Alameda (336lbs.) will be there at #95.

We need to start looking at ILB’s and OLB’s position for our 3rd RD pick. We could pick up a NT in the 6-7 RD…like

Nicolas Jean-Baptisie (335lbs.) from Baylor or Hebron “Loni” Fangupo (330lbs) from USC/BYU.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

    RR,

I agree with ET. You really can’t blame that one on Chucky (trust me I tried), but we didn’t have quality LBs capable of starting. We had Groves, Goethel, and R Brown.

  • RaiderRockstar

    @Mike

I worked with this lady once who was divorced and re-married and gave me a chicks perspective on it

she said “the first time you marry for love and the second time you marry for money.”

I’ve had a bunch of chicks echo that statement..

    what is a guy’s perspective??

    Good Morning Raider fans!

Jeez… wish the draft would hurry up and get here!!

I hope we get NT, DL, LB and some undrafted FA gems!

it will interesting to see how our first post Al draft goes down.

  • R8ER MIKE

RR.. first time for love and dumb luck
second time for sex, money, and health insurance !!

  • RaiderRockstar

I would venture to guess that Kam Wimbley would be a better player for ANY others coaches than Chuck Bresnahan & Greg Biekert in ANY other scheme than Al Davis’ …

I mean, the guy even has JaMarcus wearing #55 starting right next to him!

yes- but only if they’ve been burned a few times..heartbroken

then they move on, find somebody they can tolerate who’ll make them financially secure. I don’t think any ladies wanna work 2 or 3 jobs and take care of a kid by themselves

  • J Hill

Kam Wimbley was brought here to be the SLB, not a DE.

Sorry, but unless Kam comes up with a counter move to that shoulder dip, he is not coming anywhere close to 10 sacks this year.

  • J Hill

Was looking at Allen’s defensive teams stats from last year and the DL didn’t have any stats at all.

All the sacks and impact plays were made by the LBs.

I hope Chapman is still avail at 95…I think we need some new blood on the D line first, add LB’s second.

I like the guys you have listed…the kid from Baylor would be a great pick as well in 3rd to 4th rounds. Seems to be Motivated and hardworking.

Dummerville was the RDE for Denver last year. All 5’11, 260lbs of him.

I guess we’ll have a LB posing as RDE this season.

Thought this was interesting from the Wheeler Q&A…

Q: How is the defense catered to your style of play?

Wheeler: Coach Tarver told me there was going to be a lot of blitzing, just a lot of mixing up things, not just standing still in Cover 2 like I did in with the Indianapolis Colts for awhile. Nothing against that, we had a great offense that kept the lead a lot. We were able to sit back in Cover 2 and rush the passer a lot because teams had to catch up, and we had two great defensive ends that did that. But I also like to rush the passer and everything from the linebacker position and coach Tarver told me that it would be some of that going on.

Wheeler had 2 sacks in 4 years with the Colts

Curry had 5.5 sacks in his first 2 years with the Hawks and then none last season …

Under Jason Tarver, they could each have 7 sacks next season imo
