“It’s not coincidence that the brothers blow their money. You don’t see white athletes going broke because they aren’t bling whores.”

Randy, I am not sure if the above comment is yours, or from KK. However, there are many white athletes who go broke too. Statistics have it that 80% of all professional athletes (of any color) are insolvent or file for bankruptcy within 4 yrs after retiring.

A prime example of a white athlete completely blowing it is Lenny Dykstra.

The problem is that someone who has no experience managing millions of dollars will probably lose it. Statistics also demonstration that 90% of all multimillion dollar lotto winners are insolvent or bankrupt once the payments cease.

Of course black athletes come cuturally unprepared to manage tens of millions of dollars; less prepared than that of white athletes considering: lack of education; lack of language ability, lowered reading and writing skills.

Such factors make black athletes sitting ducks for predators.

    Tulsa’s serial murders: A hate-crime spree?

Two white men are charged in the shooting deaths of three black people in Oklahoma — and hours before the crimes, one suspect posted racial epithets on Facebook

Early Sunday morning, police and FBI agents arrested two white men in connection with an early Friday shooting rampage that left three black people dead and two others wounded in a series of four attacks in Tulsa, Okla. Law enforcement officials accuse Jake England, 19, and Alvin Watts, 32, of carrying out the shooting spree in Tulsa’s predominantly black north side, and on Monday, the pair were formally charged, with bond set at more than $9 million each. England’s Facebook account offers a possible motive for the murders: Revenge for the shooting death of his father, Carl England, two years ago, allegedly by a black man. “It is way too early to call this a hate crime,” FBI agent James Finch cautioned on Sunday, though some local officials are less hesitant. What happened in Tulsa, and what are the chances that race was the motive? Here’s what you should know:

    What exactly happened?

Around 1 a.m. on Friday, a gunman shot Dannaer Fields, 49, who later died in the hospital; three minutes later, two more black people were shot and wounded. Over the next two hours, Bobby Clark, 54, and William Allen, 31, were gunned down. All the victims were walking through the neighborhood, and some witnesses say men matching England and Watts’ description stopped to ask directions, then shot the respondents in the back as they walked away.
SEE MORE: The ’stunning’ LulzSec hacker bust: A concise guide

How did police catch England and Watts?
On Saturday, the Tulsa Police Department, Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, and U.S. Marshals Service formed a task force called Operation Random Shooter, then pleaded for clues from the community. One of the surviving victims said a white gunman was driving a white truck, and tipsters fingered England, saying he was trying to burn the truck. Police found a burned-out white pickup registered to England on Saturday night, obtained warrants, and arrested England and Watts around 2 a.m. Sunday in a trailer four miles from the house they shared, apparently as roommates. Police also found a gun they believe was used in the shooting, but didn’t say which of the men is suspected of pulling the trigger.

You retain Kelly/Seymour for this year until the Bryant/Houston/Toffelson rotation in the new sheme suggests otherwise. Right now, no reason to trade Kelly, himself and Seymour will be used in a better shceme. The LB play should be elevated in the run game and pass rush and that will help the interior out.

  78. Chris in NY Says:

    Alex,
TK isn’t a defensive end. 7.5 sacks was probably tops or close to it among DTs in the NFL last year. Plus his salary is actually reasonable at this point. Think he’s due about 6 mil. Really not a bad contract. If it were early in free agency, before teams spend their cap space, and TK was a free agent I bet he’d get a deal averaging about $8 mil per. And a ton of teams would be lined up for his services.

  79. Chris in NY Says:

    Raiders paradise,
TK leads the NFL in sacks by a DT over the last two seasons. You really think no one would be interested in a guy like that in today’s NFL?

  80. Chris in NY Says:

Kelly has a half sack more than Suh since 2010. Most by a DT in the NFL over that span.

He’s also turning 32 this season.

Kelly and Seymour will both be gone soon.

No they won’t. Pat Williams was productive well past 32. Kelly and Seymour have at least 2-3 more years left in them.

Who many 3rd downs did our defense get us in, only to give up a 3rd down conversion?

How many big runs were to the edge?

How many big runs were against our Big Nickel defense?

  90. Chris in NY Says:

Run D troubles have been scheme and LB related, IMO.

  91. J Hill Says:

The LB “unit” has been bad.

When Groves and Mitchell are your options for a 3rd LB, the stats for that “unit” aren’t going to look too good.

And we’ve been told time and time again that the Al Davis thought process was to have his DTs penetrate gaps. OGs and Cs really only had to block 1 LB, and there were natural lanes more than there should have been.

We also know that secondary (the last line of defense – Coach Allen) gave little to no support in the run game which turned 10 yd runs into 40+ yd runs.

Defense is in good hands folks.

    Exactly.

  93. J Hill Says:

Nevermind that McClain had 10 tackles and 3 passes defended in the Buffalo game, the McClain critics want to talk about him not catching a Pro Bowl bound back from behind 30 yds down the field. No, he didn’t miss the tackle that led to him getting a 30 yd run, the issue was him not running a guy down from behind. SMH!

  94. J Hill Says:

    99,

We agree on the Staffor whiff.

But you do realize he had 9 tackles and a sack in that game?

Dude CLEARLY showed up the last 3 games of the season when the season was on the line. 10, 8, and 9 tackles respectively.

McClain wasn’t the one getting toasted by Floyd that last game of the season.

  95. Tjbwall Says:

McClain will be good. He was the youngest player on the D last year(22) His off the field issues are the only concern I have, but I think Tarver & Co. can set em straight.

I hear talk about Kelly…how long will he be a Raider? To me..his contract is still outta wack

  96. Chris in NY Says:

McClain also blew the coverage that gave Buffalo the game-winning TD on 4th down. MLB can’t make mistakes like that. MLB is supposed to be the mental and emotional leader of your defense.

  97. alex7 Says:

Seymour, 2 years isn’t “soon” for you?

I agree that’s all we have left in Kelly, two years tops.

So just agreeing that it’s at least TEMPTING to trade him at his peak value before he hits his career downslide.

Also, don’t compare Kelly to a FAT run-clogging DT. Of course those guys can play into their mid 30s. They just need to eat up blocks.

  98. alex7 Says:

Due to all our 3-technique DTs, one of them should be traded.

Swap in Houston for Kelly and you won’t notice a difference this season…other than about $5.5 million and 8 years of age-difference.

  99. J Hill Says:

    ———————————————————–

    No he didn’t.

CJ37 did. He peeled off his man and covered the RB swinging out of the backfield. It was so unexplainable when you watched it unfold. McClain and CJ37 both end up on the RB and a WR is left uncovered. Since when do our corners drop coverage on a WR to cover a RB out of the backfield?

I said “at least 2-3 years” with Kelly and Seymour. Meaning they could both be here 3-5 years easily. Seymour is a few years older than Kelly. Both of them are extremely productive, and seemingly will be for the next 2-3 years at least, barring injury.

  102. Seymour Bush Says:

    Chris,

Well if you watch the play 10 times like I did on the DVR rewind, you will see the WR come in motion with CJ37 going with him. They are in man to man coverage. At the snap of the ball, the RB is swinging out of the backfield to the side where the WR is motioning from. Clearly the play is set up to get McClain chasing the RB. McClain is making a B line to the sidelines trying to get over there to cover the RB.

The WR caught the TD. AL Davis was still alive. Are you suggesting McClain blew some type of zone coverage instead of Al’s man to man?

Not quite the same thing. Gallery was drafted to be a franchise LT. Starting a young LT prospect at another position (in this case, RT) his first season is a long-accepted practice for preparing a player for the hardest position on the offensive line. For instance, Jonathan Ogden spent his first year or two at LG.

Then when Gallery was moved to LT, he completely failed and was being compared to Tony Mandarich. Moving him to LG was a last-ditch attempt to salvage SOMETHING out of such a high pick.

True, but Gallery started as the LT, was then moved to RT before his rookie season ended, then moved back to LT, and finally moved to LG. I have both SD games and the Jets game still on DVR. If you can point out in any of those games plays where McClain is half azzing it, I’d appreciate it.

So you’ve seen a college game or two. That makes all the difference in the world to me. I guess that means Houston can play NT in the NFL at 3 bills

    ^^^^^^^^^
No, but they can draft decent NT prospect in Round 4 or 5 in this years draft. DLine is deep this year.

  153. filobedo Says:

Exactly. That’s why I have been saying McK should trade Kelly for a 3rd Rounder, heck, they should even consider trading him for a 4th rounder.

You’ll never get a Dlineman as good as TK in the 4th…

  154. CostaRicaider Says:

TK is worth at least a 2nd. He is a beast in the middle. lets see what happens with a real D cord. I also give a pass to McClain because of his age and also lack of nfl caliber coaching. I also think the way he runs and his body type make him seem likes he’s “gliding” or moving slowly. But I dont think he is moving slowly I think he is moving fast. He needs to be playing in a 3-4 also. Cant wait to see what T. Branch is going to do this year. I predict HUGE year out of him. The whole D is going to be a surprise to the nfl. just my two cents. You never know. If McK is as good of a talent evaluator as he is said to be, he can find a true NT type in a deep DLine draft I think.

    Granted I would prefer trading Kelly for a 3rd than a 4th.

We need to add a RDE who can get after the QB to plug in behind ShoNasty, and get snaps as a nickel DE. That’s the one hole on the DLine right now, and it’s a big one.

    Totally agree.

A speed edge rusher is the biggest hole on this team right now, IMO.

May have to bring back Moss and give him a tightly defined, specific, narrow role.

Not many free agents or rookies in the back half of the draft who you can bank on for that role or who have the kind of upside Moss still has.

I say, sign Moss to a 1-2 year deal. Tell him to go get the QB when he’s in there and not worry about anything else.

Would have to look back on the play but I think it was either a zone or a situation where they were to trade off. Don’t see how McClain ever could have made it out fast enough to pick up the back in that spot anyway.

Regardless, this isn’t about a specific play here or there. It’s about an overall tendency to half-azz it. If I go back and watch any game from this season right now I guarantee there are at least a dozen plays where I can find McClain dogging it.
    *************************

I commented more than a number of times while at the games that Romac seemed out of gas or was just plain not giving the play 110% until the whistle blew. As soon as a play gets by him he does not pursue well at all – many times not at all. He really needs to keep playing on ALL plays until the whistle blows.

I agree that’s all we have left in Kelly, two years tops.
    ====================================

I said “at least 2-3 years” with Kelly and Seymour. Meaning they could both be here 3-5 years easily. Seymour is a few years older than Kelly. Both of them are extremely productive, and seemingly will be for the next 2-3 years at least, barring injury.
    >>>

I think they just want two years out of both.

Parella was 33 during our last SB year.

Not many d-linemen last past 34…

Reggie White might be the exception. Bruce Smith? I can’t name too many others…

Thats a crazy statement. No way McK is trading Kelly for anything but a late 2nd or above.

Which is why he will remain a Raider.

  174. Gdog Says:

I’ve been asking all the McClain critics for examples of him dogging it since the season ended and we have all of TWO examples.
    >>>>

His problem has been exactly the opposite. He is trying to do TOO much. He can NEVER stay on assignment is what needs to be changed. He either guesses (moronically at times) the wrong gap to shoot, or tries to help out the DT in front of him for some gawdforsaken reason.

If McClain had been dogging, we would have won a few more games, IMO. If he stood there like a statue, the RB would have ran right into him on many of the 40+ yard runs he gave up doing other moronic crap.

    And furthermore, your comment:

“I’ve been asking all the McClain critics for examples of him dogging it since the season ended and we have all of TWO examples.”
    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Please copy and past the link posted below. There are several dozen examples of McClain’s missed tackles, blown coverage, stiff arm shutdowns, etc. And that is just Part 1. Go on an view Part 2. All occurs last season.

Also, after reviewing the footage myself I can easily see one of McClain’s chief problems: he has a fat and flabby ass, and upper thighs. When he cartwheels through the air as an opponent RB blows by him, then hits the dirt, his ass and upper thighs shake like jelly. That’s pure fat. He should lose about 15 lbs then transform his flabby lower body to pure muscle. Maybe he would have more success, but I doubt it.

One must have drive and intelligence, and he seems to have neither.

Never seen him, to this day in the pro level come off a block and make a tackle!! SHOW THE CLIP. I, have seen Wimbley do what I expect Romac to do. Last year Romac had his chances to shine but he was trumped by Phillip Rivers calling him out on the the most meaningful day of his career. He was a total letdown.I JUST DONT THINK ROMAC HAS THAT CAPABIILITY TO DO IT. Yes!!! The it factor. That is the difference between Romac and wimbley in my scouting report. Please report differently if you find it some where noted. I want to be wrong but on this one but I cannot support it any other way for now.

The Raider culture is being changed without changing the Image. Now we have a Image change without the Raider culture. Lets reclaim both. Start with, Let the NFL fan really live through a true live game experience. yes, a fan living through The Black Hole experiences. Every time I come to Oakland I see generous Raider fans treating fans from NFL teams with great respect. Hey, they may give other fans a hard time because their not Raider fans, but that is it. Raider fans need to get credit for that. My Raiders organization is the greatest of all times as far as I am concerned. I give the Raiders my full support. Allow the Raiders to profit from anyone that wants to go to the Raiders stadium to enjoy a game.

  179. antispy3 Says:

For those that couldn’t detect or found it convenient not to notice Nnamdi was a top flight run defender.

Early on that was his saving grace; whenever the opposition tried an outside run Nnamdi was there to rebuke their efforts with authority. I remember his second year @ KC he practically dismembered the WR & sent the RB tumbling like he was the second coming of Jack Tatum.

I remember in 2009 many times he was trailing the WR (usually the #1 option) & still made the play with authority.

Nnamdi was hesitant to make the transition from college safety to pro CB. It took three years for the effects to take place. I remember early on he was so frustrated he pined to be moved back to safety. But eventually he saw what Al had seen when Nnamdi was @ Cal Berkeley. . .

I have to think many anti Al types are just so subjective they don’t see the player for what he is worth. They just want to chastise all Al’s late decisions as the rants of an old man grasping for straws.

And this just in; I still maintain if Al had opted for Nnamdi over Rout none of this jibber jabber would be taking place.

Not that I didn’t detect Al making bad decisions or acting like Mr. Wilson (or John McCain) shooing the neighbor kids off his front lawn. The effects of dementia & pain surely took their toll on his day to day decision making. He did resemble Howard Hughes @ the end, up @ all hours, sleeping in the daylight when the rest of the league was conducting business. . .

One of the reasons I became a Raider fan all those years ago was the Raider persona, led by their maverick owner. His rebellious Frank Sinatra style (he did it his way), rebuking the system, taking on (talented) renegades or players others had deemed past their prime, plus the hard hitting throw the bomb approach set the Raiders apart from other teams.

And then there was Al’s penchant for being color blind, setting trends, breaking color/race/creed/sex barriers, looking into the soul of a player instead of going the traditional cookie cutter approach (antidisestablishmentarianism all the way), judging everyone as a human being & eliminating the prejudice that many utilize in their judgmental way. . .

This was the foundation I adopted to formulate my philosophy growing up (with a healthy dose of karma, the Golden rule & self actualization). . .so for those who prefer to just beat Al up over the Marcus Allen scenario (reprehensible to me, to be sure), the projector incident while firing Lane Kiffin (for cause, but I was embrassed for the man), not trying harder to embrace Jon Gruden (he shoulda seen Jon & his minions were taking care of business when Al was ensconsed in court doing his angry man thing & discarded his don’t pay the coach thing, but wresting power from Al wasn’t gonna happen). . .et al. . .

I used to be proud that Al was @ one time undefeated against the NFL in a court of law. But Al was always one of those “I’d rather be right than just” kinda people. One had to realize that. Al was unbending. Perhaps he was a bit too principaled. He had a zest for competition & once he succeeded in a court of law that was just one more arena in which to compete.

I also think Al Davis’s physical condition had an effect on his running of the team and its business dealings. As his life wound down with all the physical illnesses and I’m sure mental anguish of seeing his glory days behind him, I think it led him to some bitter, regrettable decisions.

I’m glad those days are behind us now, but I appreciate what Al Davis was and the courage he had to do the things lesser men dared to try to do.

    RIP Al

Those cutups of McClain were very well done.

Although some of the “missed” tackles, still ended up being successful defensive plays. You would like your MLB to make the play himself no doubt, but if he can make the RB move his feet around in the backfield, you will take it.

You know who he reminds me a bit of? Lawrence Taylor. Let me make it 100% clear that I’m NOT saying he’ll be LT–there is only one–but just that he has that skillset to roam around everywhere and create havoc. Everyone’s projecting him as a 3-4 OLB, but if I were a GM of a team that ran a 4-3, I’d draft him without hesitation and line him up at weakside linebacker.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel’s Bob McGinn agrees with speculation that Arizona State ILB Vontaze Burfict could go undrafted.
McGinn is one of the league’s most respected and well-connected beat writers, so it’s unlikely he’s simply giving his opinion. Burfict’s offseason has been one prolonged free-fall, and at this point he’ll be lucky to be a seventh-round pick. Name recognition alone may be all that prevents him from going undrafted.

    Interesting…was he hat bad?

  199. SilverNBlackPA Says:

    Hwnrdr,

His Combine numbers were worse than some defensive linemen who outweigh him by 50 pounds. And there’s a lot of reports that he completely tanked the interviews, refusing to take any responsibility for his struggles this season.

Before the 6th round, I wouldn’t touch this guy with a 10 foot pole.

  202. MikieG Says:

Even before we drafted RoMac and everyone was high on him, posting his youtube reel etc…The thing that really stuck out to me was that 97% of those tackles he made on the reel weren’t true “Solo” tackles, almost every time the ball carrier had someone else draped on him and RoMac finished him off, or the ball carrier had juuuust broken a tackle, was slowed and off balance, and RoMac finished him off. I was never impressed, but thought everyone else knew something that I didn’t. I just assumed that he was going to be a smart player that would always be in the right position to make the play. Man was I wrong..
That whiff on Stafford was absolutely sickening, and an absolute Microcosm of RoMac’s play..90% of the linbackers in the NFL would have knocked the living sh!t out of Bradford on that play, or at LEAST made the game saving, playoff sending tackle…
    Disgusting.

I think your video clearly puts the lack of hustle issue to rest. He was all over the place in you video. Most of the plays were in the passing game and he had his arsse downfield where he was supposed to be.

No question he has room to improve tackling. He makes half those tackles he missed and he’s leading the league in tackles.

    GOOD MORNING NATION !!!!

  218. guest123 Says:

Realistically, since the first pick Reggie can trade is in the 5th round, what players are left that are worth stockpiling picks for in the later rounds?

There are rare exceptions, but that 3rd comp pick should be an immediate starter somewhere, the 4th comp pick has a chance to be quality depth with a chance for the future. 5th rounders on up to 7th are crap-shoots that contribute to special teams and reserve roles. The picks are already thin as it is. I hope that Reggie doesn’t thin it out even more.

  219. RaiderRockstar Says:

    @G123

Every year there are players off NFL rosters that were either starters or key contributors traded from their team to a new team for only a late round pick. It makes you say “WHAT??? why didn’t we give up a pick for that guy?”

no reason to think this year will be any different, other than the fact we’re strapped for cash

However, that could be fixed by restructuring a few contracts: Heyward-Bey, Kelly, Janikowski & Lechler.

    then sign Branch long term

I think both are Raiders this season. Kelly could be traded, but I don’t see that he’d bring much more than a 5th. For that, might as well keep him.

I think Reggie would deal DMac if he were blown away by an offer, but other than that, it makes more sense to keep him too. He’s a special talent, even if you only get 12 games a season. He can change those games on 1 play.

  226. SilverNBlackPA Says:

Here’s a list of everyone known to have had a pre-draft visit with the Raiders:

East Carolina offensive tackle Steven Baker
    Iowa safety Jordan Bernstine

    Beloit receiver Derek Carrier
    Alabama defensive tackle Josh Chapman
    UCLA running back Derrick Coleman
South Florida defensive end Claude Davis
    Slippery Rock receiver Devin Goda
Cal State Fullerton tight end Andre Hardy
    Washington State linebacker Alex Hoffman-Ellis

Except for Chapman, all those guys project as 6th round-UDFAs. Guessing Reggie already has a good idea who he wants to draft in the 3rd-5th rounds and is trying to find a few very late round/UDFA gems. Or maybe if someone really impresses him to snap him up with a pick before he gets a chance to sign with another team.

I wouldn’t take anything less than a 2nd rounder, maybe a 3rd depending on who’s on the board for TK.

I tell you, I think we may need to do this deal to get Chapman. I don’t see him lasting till #95. That’s really why I didn’t vote for Chapman. I wanted to be realistic. He’s gonna be gone early to mid third round.

I disagree. Not that I don’t think he’s valuable, I just think he’s more valuable to the Raiders than most other teams, if that makes sense.

And it’s great already, but it’s always even greater when the Raiders are part of the competition. … They’ve always had such great players. I just think they need some consistency. They need some discipline and consistency. Changing coaches every other year is not a good thing. They need stability. They need to be stable and consistent at the head coach position and quarterback and they need discipline, and I think they’ll be fine.

And it’s great already, but it’s always even greater when the Raiders are part of the competition. … They’ve always had such great players. I just think they need some consistency. They need some discipline and consistency. Changing coaches every other year is not a good thing. They need stability. They need to be stable and consistent at the head coach position and quarterback and they need discipline, and I think they’ll be fine -Marcus Allen

  291. r8eray Says:

Oakland Raiders’ former running back, Napoleon Kaufman, one of the best players in the history of the NFL, likes to visit the team’s Alameda facility and O.co Coliseum as often as he can. On Monday, April 9, he paid a visit and spoke with Jeanette Thompson.
Every time I hear the Kaufman talk about his time with the team and how he still feels about the Silver and Black today, I’m reminded why my favorite number has been 26 for nearly 17 years. Of course, that’s the jersey Kaufman wore during his six seasons in the NFL, never playing for another franchise in his career.
The 38-year-old told Thompson he’s been a Raider fan ever since he was “a little kid” and dreamed of playing for the legendary team. He went on to achieve great success with the Washington Huskies, becoming the team’s all-time rusher leader and finished his four-year college career with 4,401 yards as well as setting numerous records along the way.
I was privileged to have been at one of Kaufman’s stand-out games in Seattle when the Huskies and San Jose State Spartans battled it out on the field back on October 9, 1994. He ran down the field to score a 91-yard touchdown to help take his team to a 34-20 victory. It’s a moment that’s etched in my mind forever and I became an instant fan that day.
Kaufman told Thompson on Monday that he saw Al Davis on the field when he was at the Combine and when he got the call to become a Raider it was “a dream come true.”
I think the Raider Nation was privileged to have such an exceptional man and player on the field, and as fans, we only wish he had stuck around a little longer. He accomplished great things in his short six season career, with one of the highlights being his record setting performance against the Denver Broncos on October 19, 1997. He rushed for 227 yards, carried the ball 28 times and scored a touchdown, in the Raiders’ 28-25 victory over Denver.
Kaufman, always well-spoken and gracious, remarked that he was “surprised that it’s still a record considering all the great running backs that have come through.”
Holding the number one rushing record for a single-game for nearly 15 years now, it doesn’t look like it’ll be broken any time soon, although Raider fans have to hope that our current star running back, Darren McFadden, will come close or surpass that in 2012.
No matter what happens, Kaufman will not be forgotten, and I think that many of us appreciate that he’s stayed in touch with the team and the fans. He joined Twitter in February and has been very active on the site. He told Thompson that it’s been “fun” to connect with Raider fans and that he’s “grateful he only played for one team.”
Kaufman, who is now Pastor Napoleon Kaufman to his Dublin, California congregation, remarked, “Everyone that knows me knows I love my team. I’m a Raider for life.”

I think I can speak for most fans when I say, we’re very proud to have this great former player, who exemplifies the passion of the Raider Nation, on our side.

Mostly I agree. NT is priority. If by some chance Chapman is there @95, (which I doubt), you pick him and don’t look back. But if/when that plan falls thru, go after the best SLB on the board. I still think we should look to draft another combo guard/C as we have no depth for WizII.

It’s believed the deal will void after two seasons, assuming Curry is still a Raider then. He received a $1.885 million signing bonus and a 2012 base salary of $615,000. Curry should return as a starter in 2012, and he will be back in 2013 if he plays well on the weak side.

3rd round: Cam Johnson, DE, Virginia
4th round: Nicolas Jean-Baptiste, NT, Baylor
5th round: David Molk, C, Michigan
5th round: Danny Trevathan, LB, Kentucky
6th round: Sammy Brown, LB, Houston

  320. YoungAmerican Says:

Moss isn’t in the plans. He’s proven he’s a stopgap at best.

You have to pick someone in the 4th or 5th round. Might as well be a versatile player who can fill in at DE and OLB, depending on the situation.

  321. bcz24 Says:

    You rang?

  322. YoungAmerican Says:

Massaquoi would have more value as the 4th round compensatory pick. He’s definitely a project guy. Would only be a part-time player in 2012.

  323. guest123 Says:

The only free agent signing that isn’t a stopgap is Bresiel. The rest are wandering into Raider Nation for a short stay, until Reggie get’s his guys. Maybe Moss isn’t one of his guys, but he’s better than a lot of unproven college kids. 2012 is not the year that the roster is solidified.

But 2013 will be interesting. This plan is a 2 yr plan, with emphasis on disposability. Don’t get too attached to the 2012 Raiders.

Moss won’t find a team until after the draft because most teams believe it’s better to bring in college kids with potential, whose skills fit what they want to do, than stick with more expensive veterans who haven’t done much, if anything, in their careers.

if Tyvon Branch doesn’t sign a reasonable contract, he could be on the list of guys playing for somebody else next season. If he plays all season on the tag and plays like I think he will, we wont miss him. Average at best.

I’m sure his agent is asking for Eric Weddle money after we tagged him and tripled his value. We gave him all the leverage. Really want TB to sign a deal long term, and all the reports out of his camp seem to be positive. I don’t know about him being insulted. He knows the rules. He’s getting a nice chunk of change no matter what. Reggie will low ball him or let him walk after the year is up. Vet minimum, which is still more than a late-round pick.

Reggie will see if he can find a player he likes in the draft first, and then worry about backup DE/OLB. Even if he can’t find a guy who fits that mold in the draft, I doubt Jarvis Moss would be the first veteran he goes to. I was saying yesterday, another possibility for the #95 pick is Tyrone Crawford from Boise State. Another guy who might already be gone, but if he isn’t? Potentially could take over at LDE and allow Houston to play more inside.

    ^^^^^^^^
I can see Crawford being there at #95.

I think I would rather have Derek Wolfe though.

It’s a pretty deep LB class in the draft this year. That’s why the big-name LBs in free agency didn’t get much interest from their original teams.

In my opinion it is. Not for 3-4 LBs, but it’s for 4-3 OLBs/ WLBs. When you know undersized LBs will get drafted in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, then I think it’s a weak class. Btw, Charlie (ex GM) said the same thing.

    =================

Sure. I wouldn’t mind Jeff Allen at #95 if some of the defensive options are gone. Better than reaching for a defensive player only because he plays defense, when he wouldn’t be ready to contribute right away.

Or, for that matter, if a guy like Lamar Miller falls to #95. Would be a great value pick. But truthfully, with the RB position I don’t see a lot of separation between the 2nd tier guys and the lower tier guys. Richardson, Martin, and Miller are the only RBs I’d go out of my way to draft.

QB is the same in 2012 – not a whole lot of separation between guys like Cousins and guys like Lindley or Foles. Wouldn’t be a great value pick at #95 even if a guy like Weeden was available.

All the McClain’s busted plays occurred last season.

Also, after reviewing the footage myself I can easily see one of McClain’s chief problems, the reason he is slow and for the most part, out of position: he has a fat and flabby ass, and upper thighs.

IMO, I kind of think there are hidden gems at the conversion areas of the 3-4 hybrid OLB/DE positions.

    RaiderRockstar,

I don’t hate ROMAC. It’s just that he was sooooo over-hyped by the organization and Hue (elite performer, future HOF’er, etc.) that it is a bitter pill to swallow he is not even mediocre. If McClain does have talent he was enabled NOT to develop it by the Raiders and Hue.

Notwithstanding that, McClain has a horrible attitude toward the fans, whom he utilized, btw, to gain a huge money contract. Then came the “incident.”

The Raiders are better than McClain. Calling him a “Captain” of the D is ridiculous.

Finally by studying in detail McClain’s “Missed Tackle” video his basic problem is fascinating. He’s fat.

One sees that type of weight on LB’s all the time, buttocks and upper thighs, but it is pure muscle. One thing I noticed is that many opponents duck then pivot out of McClain’s grasp since he has a propensity to attempt to tackle high. Pursuit by other Raiders occurs while McClain trails behind seemingly winded. If and when the opponent is finally tackled, McClain finally shows up on scene, and snaps his head to the right as if saying, “dang, I missed another one.”

    Per Tafur:

Raiders scout Jon Kingdon was on Sirius XM NFL Radio last weekend and he credited former Oakland safety and current scout Calvin Branch with uncovering fifth-round steal Denarius Moore. Branch discovered the receivers at the Texas vs. Nation college all-stars game, but apparently couldn’t convince the Raiders to take Moore in the third or fourth round.

Kingdon thought Moore would picked in the third round, but the Raiders were dead set on not drafting a receiver that early. So, they took cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke and tackle Joseph Barksdale in the third round, and two more players (cornerback Chimdi Chekwa and running back Taiwan Jones) in the fourth round before realizing that Moore was still on the draft board.

Kingdon said the Raiders jumped on Moore at that point and that coach Hue Jackson received three or four calls from other head coaches saying that the Raiders had just gotten their guy.

Sounds to me like the Raiders got a little lucky. And that maybe Branch should have more clout from here on out — Oakland should just go ahead and take his guy in the fourth round next time.

Also in the interview, Kingdon said the Raiders are looking for “athletic linemen” for their new zone-blocking scheme and that he thinks Bruce Campbell shouldn’t have been moved from tackle to guard. He thinks the Campbell trade to Carolina is good for both teams, and that the Raiders “really liked” former Panthers running back Mike Goodson a lot coming out of college.

  425. guest123 Says:

I agree with Kingdon that Calvin Branch deserves some extra clout for “finding” D. Moore. Looking back on the trade to get Barskdale and Taiwan for the #48 pick this year, I think we made a mistake with that trade. It’s too early to tell, but Moore was a homerun by himself that makes up for the mistakes of last year’s draft.

If you were GM of the Oakland Raiders, who would you draft @ #95? Pick a name and do not reply with a position!

    12:09
Steve Corkran: I would take Vontaze Burfict if he’s still there. When focused, he is an impact player, of which the Raiders have none on their defense as of now.

    Wow!

the Pats could have easily spent that million elsewhere. They obviously think he has something left. whether he’s seen as a cheap starter or an expensive depth player makes no difference imo. *****************
I did, and he would have be WAY more productive here too, ESPECIALLY with Palmer. The fact of Ocho’s season was that by the time he got command of NE’s very complicated offense, there were 5 other guys on the roster that Brady had worked with for years and was comfortable with. I wouldn’t be surprised if 85 is nominated for comeback player of the year up there this year.

I am not mocking the Gallery signing by NE. It was a cheap depth move, its smart ball, and the reason why a bad season in Boston is 11 wins. I am just saying that just because he was signed for vet minimum hardly means that the bust label should be removed from Gallery. He was drafter #2 overall as a franchise left tackle, and he just got signed with his 3rd team in 3 years at guard.

  485. Sullivan44 Says:

I don’t want to take the bus. Too awkward. Something I’m not used to. Why cant I as an American make the choice to not use my vehicle as much, and save money that way?

Heck, he may actually last until the 5th or 6th round. But I think they’re going to need a playmaker at corner and I don’t think that’s what they have in Bartell & Spencer. How about DeQuan Menzie of Alabama, if he falls?

  495. RaidO Says:

They do the same crap evey year. Jack the gas prices up then drop it a little higher than it was before. People think oh gas is low again . No. They just pulled a sneaky little price raise.

You’re shadow boxing, O. I’m not some liberal that’s totally against cars. You’re picking a fight that’s not there. I don’t have as much of a problem with gas engines as I do with idiots who overdo it with giant gas guzzlers, then complain when greedy oil companies gouge them. They’re no explanation for that kind of stupidity.

That is my automobile rant for the day.

  504. Sullivan44 Says:

Kell, that was a pretty good documentary. I didn’t like the way they kept implying that Hook just keeps making “poor choices”, per se. He’s clearly a drug addict. Until he gets treatment, he’s going to continue to relapse, and commit crimes to get high. They were a little sloppy documenting his story but the part about Powe was excellent. Powe’s is a life story everyone should be inspired by. He really came from nothing.

    Bucs cut safety Tanard Jackson

    ***

    interested??
    *****************
I think he played pretty damn well after coming off suspension last year if memory serves me. He might actually outplay Huffy. I bet if TB cut him they know something we don’t, and he could possibly be facing another suspension though.

    ************

Not interested. He came off a year long suspension in midseason and had a couple of good games, was by default their starting free safety. But as the team tanked his attitude went to pot. They even extended his deal midseason and paid him some extra money up front only to cut him in the offseason.

Tanard Jackson sucks, is a bad apple/character that Tampa is getting rid of these days.

I hear all about this drama every day. I live in Tampa. Trust me, look away from this mess.

It’s true that there’s environmental issues with any technology, but the environmental footprint of drilling, processing, delivering fossil fuels and it’s related combustion which directly affects the air, water, and ecological balance is by far a much greater danger than any implications to strip mining for rare earths in China.

Hybrids and EV’s are great ideas, get over it!

Yup. Our 2009 Honda Fit gets 25-26 MPG in the summer and 30 in the winter (with mostly city driving). Therefore, each raise in gas prices affects us a lot less than people who drive big SUVs that get…whatever it is they get.

Ah, I see, Rockstar, government should only provide assistance in instances YOU deem necessary. That’s how a free Republic works. The government provides for basic needs only. Who defines basic needs? Why, none other than YOU! You just send a list of “basic needs” to Washington periodically, and they hammer out their budget based on YOUR recommendations! Exactly what America’s founding fathers envisioned. Just so you know, there’s a lot of wealthy people out there who think that you should provide for your own parents and grandparents, as they do. So, while you’d view government assistance to the elderly as a basic need, many wealthy people would view you as just another bum sucking off of the system. You know, these wealthy people your politics vehemently defend.

No, Bush was the most divisive, including his nasty practice of taking us into wars without an exit plan and questioning the patriotism of those to called him out on it.

  586. YoungAmerican Says:

Until we have a country that isn’t an oligarchy, any anger at the President (no matter who he is) is misplaced. He’s a figurehead, nothing more. He is installed by private interests who are concerned with lining their own pockets – not the American people.

    Intersting factoids:

G.W. Bush entered into office with a $300B per year budget surplus, and left office with a $1.4T deficit per year.

G.W. Bush entered office with a $4T deficit and exited office leaving an $11.5T deficit.

G.W. Bush instituted TARP which loaned U.S. and European banks, and private industry nearly a trillion dollars.

G.W. Bush, using duplicity, and following neo-con philosophy, entered us into 2 wars: Iraq, which boosted the power and influence of Iran throughout the region; Afghanistan, which is a pit where we throw our money and reputation.

  616. Sullivan44 Says:

is he hard at work restructuring contracts of players on the current roster or scheduling more UFA’s for a visit to Oakland ???

Rockstar, it was a joke. Relax. The implication being that a fan probably shouldn’t be overly concerned about the #95 pick at this point. But of course you’re not hurting anyone by being so.
