WR Criner transcript

Raiders fifth-round draft pick Juron Criner phoned in from Las Vegas to talk about his selection at No. 168. Here is the entire transcript from the conference call with the Bay Area media:

Congratulations.
A: “Thank you.”

Q: Surprised you lasted until the fifth round?
A: “I wouldn’t quite say I had expectations. Like you said, you never know how things are going to turn out. You just got to be patient and just wait until your name is called.”

Q: What are your strengths as a receiver?
A: “I would say, my size, my body control. I have a bit of basketball background history, so that definitely helps me with timing jump balls and as a red-zone threat.”

Q: Did you follow the Raiders?
A: “I never really had a favorite team growing up. I just watched players that I like. So, it will be great to come out there. Similar weather and things like that. Great players came out of there. Biletnikoff. So, it will be great to go up there and play for an organization like Oakland.”

Q: Any talk about converting to tight end?
A: “No, never heard of that one, never wanted to get that big.”

Q: How do you fit in with your 40-time?
A: “I would just say that there’s a difference between playing on the field and having field speed than straight-line speed. So, I don’t feel like I would really having a problem fitting into that category.”

Q: How much do you know about the Raiders offense and how you might fit in here?
A: “Not much. You just got to come in ready to learn and just stay open-minded about it and just pick up whatever you can from whoever you can.”

Q: Are you familiar with any of the players on the Raiders roster?
A: “Yeah, a couple of the receivers – Haywood, Denarius Moore – a couple of the young guys. They got a couple of young receivers.”

Q: Where were you today?
A: “I was just at the house with my family, just watching. Out in Vegas.”

Q: Did the Raiders contact you before they selected you?
A: “No. Not until just before the pick. So, I’m very excited to see the phone ring and get the call.”

Q: Did the Raiders show any interest in you at the scouting combine?
A: “Yeah, I talked with their scouts a few times but nothing out of the ordinary or nothing anything really extra.”

Q: Did you visit the facility in Alameda?
A: “No.”

Q: Are you from Las Vegas?
A: “Yes, born and raised.”

Q: What high school?
A: “Canyon Valley.”

I have always hated KC more than any team and always will!

Red makes me want to puke!

Al loved Heisman winners so much he collected them from other teams.

  • YoungAmerican

Would not be surprised to see Lindley starting for the Cardinals at some point this season.

  • Silverandblack666

I am guessing DB or DL

  • backstageatapuppetshow

    No to Leonard Johnson….

Tim Brown was never a great route runner he jsut got open. He was better at sitting in zones and running option routes. I still know Tim saw him a couple of months ago he’ll tell ya’ he was never a great route runner.

If Criner really wants to keep his head in football, he can be really, really good and this can be a steal.

  • Raiders for life

Raiders need a run stuffin DT regardless of what scheme they use.

  • YoungAmerican

Leonard Johnson would be a great value here. Played extremely well against top competition.

Still hoping for Sammy Brown, though. By far my favorite sleeper in this draft.

    And the rebuilding begins.

still on the alphonzo dennard wagon. could’ve gone in the 1st

  • Hot Shot

DHB will be getting better and better because of his work ethic and it showed this last year. Some of it had to do with QB not hitting him on stride with the ball he always had to stop and wait for the ball.He never got to use his speed. Now with Palmer he will get to show his speed now.Got to use the football players strengths cant have them doing stuff that they are not good at.Of coarse they will be a flop.

ESPN says that Criner may not be fast but he’s a football player.

There’s isn’t much BS in his answers and he sounds like a smart guy.
Seems like McKenzie goes for guys who can play football and have brains.

    Raiders select QB Kellen Moore

  • RaiderBrick

Sorry,. Don’t mean to be a buzzkill. IMO 80% plus of unproven/new players have a good work ethic. You slack off in the NFL and you are of the Not For Long group.
Saying a player has a good work ethic is code for “isn’t all that good, at this point, so keep your fingers crossed.”

    #65:

Like all bloggers here, I respect DHB for his work ethic, but everytime the ball comes his way, I feel myself holding my breath, afraid he’ll not just not catch it, but that he’ll let it go off his shoulder pad, his stomach, his facemask, his fingertips and let it land in the hands of the defender.

I have to think that qbs throwing to him feel the same way. He also just doesn’t get open, whether he’s on a fly pattern or a quick in. He has indeed improved, but at some point, you have to ask yourself if he’s taking a spot that could be more productive going to another player. We haven’t found that other player yet, but we sure don’t have first round results from DHB, either.

  • DKnight007

Well they go DT, seems a developmental guy or was he a leader of that G St defense?

  • 1960AutumnWind

Not Hard to stump that Truck all they know how to pronounce is Tebow

  • PKRaider

    From PFW on Bilukidi:

One of the top prospects on the CFL’s radar, Bilukidi has intriguing size, length and movement skills. Recorded a 34½-inch vertical leap and redirects and accelerates very well for a big man. However, he did not consistently dominate marginal competition and his eyes and instincts could be restricting. Does not feel pressure and will have to learn to play with heavier hands — does not jolt blockers or shed quickly enough. Played inside, outside and even stood up some at GSU. Raw, developmental, practice-squad candidate with the dimensions to play in an even or odd front.
