ESPN: Raiders to sign Leinart

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, April 28th, 2012 at 7:39 am in Oakland Raiders.

Matt Leinart is coming to Oakland, likely as the backup quarterback, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The move makes sense, given the Raiders’ depth at the position and Leinart having been in the Houston Texans’ system last season with current Oakland offensive coordinator Greg Knapp having been quarterbacks coach there last year.

It also makes sense because it’s way too early to tell if Terrelle Pryor, last year’s acquisition with a third-round supplemental pick, is anywhere close to being an option to back up Carson Palmer.

At the Raiders’ first voluntary minicamp, general manager Reggie McKenzie said it was important for Pryor to get some work to see how far along he is in terms of development.

During an interview with 95.7 The Game Friday, coach Dennis Allen deflected the question about Pryor’s standing as a potential backup, saying it was only important that he get better every day.

Given Pryor’s suspension upon signing last season and his arrival on the final day of training camp in Napa, he is essentially a rookie this season.

It lessens the likelihood that McKenzie will be looking for another quarterback Saturday with the final four selections of the Oakland draft.

    ===============

Better blitzer than outside rusher. ILB/OLB in 3-4, SLB or possibly MLB in 4-3.

  • hellsbells

DTs are falling. We will still get one.

  • Dakota
  • mcfadden20.

TOLD you guys it will be a LB

  • ghostraiders

    Kirk morrisson clone???

  • Marks hair

He was very productive. Tacs & sacs

  • hellsbells

    JFB we just did.

  • YoungAmerican

I’m looking for Sammy Brown with a late-round pick, too. Would definitely shore up the LB corps. I’m very high on Brown, and the Raiders have showed some interest in him.

I also like Terrell Manning quite a bit.

    ****

sure is. Big sack guy. Playmaker more than athlete. Great motor

  • JLofty

Sounds like a solid pick. We need ‘backers. Not enough on the roster to field a team yet much less get everyone through camp healthy…

  • PurpleDrank81

Now it’s time for Nick Jean Baptiste in the 5th

Christ, Reggie is blowing the draft.

Bergstrom should have been a 4th rounder and Burris should have been a late 5th or a early 6th..

  • YoungAmerican

    Steve Corkran ‏ @CorkOnTheNFL

Miles Burris is an outside linebacker who recorded 19 tackles for loss, eight sacks and three fumble recoveries for SDSU last season.

  • Raider Riff

BTW, Im ok with taking Burris at this point.

  • DKnight007

Obviously, McK, Allen and the scouts liked Burris better than T Lewis and T Manning. I liked T Manning better than Burris actually, do to the speed Manning played against in the SEC.

  • PurpleDrank81

Im tryna figure out why Terrell Manning has dropped so far down the boards…Was projected high 3rd low 4th

  • Raider Riff

Did we just take Burris? hahaha

  • beach

LMN, give it up. This kid Burriss can play any linebacker position.

  • beach

I originally thought we could get Massaquoi at # 148. Let’s see where he goes.

  • YoungAmerican

    Dane Brugler ‏ @dpbrugler

Miles Burris was born to wear a #Raiders uniform…excellent pick, no quit in him #NFLDraft

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

    Riff,

I said “one of the reasons” for his lack of success in terms of winning a SB. You are right, football is a team sport, so we can’t blame Rivers for everything, but I live in SD (I get to watch him and his loud mouth), and I watched the AFC title game vs NE, and his lack of arm strength was on display. It was windy, and he couldn’t deliver the ball without being picked or defense making a play. That’s the game were they had all those FGs.

  • beach

Forget Chapman guys, he has bad knees. We can’t gamble with thes picks.

  • boss01

Burris along with Bergstrom, both high character guys, I see a trend from Reggie

  • YoungAmerican

    ====================

A 4th round compensatory pick is basically a 5th round pick.

If you like the kid, you take him where you have him rated. Draft day isn’t the time to second guess your big board.

  • JLofty

It’d be cool if Chapman falls to the early/mid 5th rnd…

I hear some also project him as MLB, ILB,including some posters here who have watched him play a lot

  • SharkCatcher

Burris has a Twitter account…that’s what we need a big whiteboy lb ..hope he pans out
