NFL Network: Kingdon out

The Raiders have fired longtime scout Jon Kingdon, according to the NFL Network.

Kingdon, 58, has been with the Raiders for 33 years and participated in the 2012 draft which brought in six new players.

Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie said upon the hiring of coach Dennis Allen that any changes to the scouting staff would not happen until after the draft.

According to a recent New York Daily News report, Joey Clinkscales, a personnel executive with the New York Jets and a high school and college teammate of McKenzie, was expected to be let go and possibly join the Raiders.

It always happens right during playoff time or when said person becomes known…not too worried about this! Also, I thought this was about any signifigance! :)

Now that the draft is over, time to give a round of applause to our blog GM staff for our draft work.

    Our Scouting Dept:

-Young American killed it, as usual, with his draft research. Everyone benefits from his draft research and projections
-Raider O did his thing, producing research and most importantly, playing both sides of the argument to make sure everyone is looking at all sides of the debate. Well done, sir
-Armond……..well, that one didn’t work out so well. Good thing though Nation, even though we haven’t seen him in months, he is alive, as I still see the occasional Golden Corral lunch being expensed to his account
-Edward Teach led the staff. I will go with the talk lightly but carry a big stick approach for him. His few words carry lots of weight

And than of course, our big cheese in the Salary Cap/Acct dept, Raider Rockstar, got his bean-count on and managed a list of potential draft picks from ALL the blog contributors.

    Congrats are in order men.

JON KINGDON OUT..I THOUGHT THE SCOUTING DEP’T DIED LAST OCTOBER..

  • Raider Riff

I’d love to know the real reason Kingdon was let go. As of right now, in my ignorant state, Im not a fan of this move.

Especially if its just to bring his own guy in. Lateral moves like that make no sense to me.

And as for post #5, no Eddie Mcgee on that WR list? He’s going to make the team. No doubt about it.

  • Raider Riff

What JFB? No mention of me?

  • Just Fire Baby

33 years is long enough, even if you are the best in the biz, IMO.

Besides, The Reggie clearly stated that this would happen TO THE PRESS, so I am sure that a man of his couth told Mr. Kingdon that this was happening, probably months in advance.

  • Raider Riff

I guess my last minute show up to the staff doesnt count for much ahhaha

  • Just Fire Baby

    Riff,

While you certainly made waves killing it on draft day, the Semi-Pro staff was assembled with looking at the entire resume over the years.

Although, I do like the idea of having a staff member abroad, so I can have someone on the clock at all hours PST, lol.

And there may be a position available on the staff next year………

  • Raider Riff

    hahaha no worries JFB.

if i eventually do earn a spot, i like the idea of being the foreign consultant. im not so much a judge of talent or scout per say. im better at setting up the board for what positions we need to draft in. i’ll leave the player evaluations to Raider O and YA, they were on point.

  • Just Fire Baby

And as far as my role as blog GM, while the draft didn’t really coincide with my prior postings and desires, remember I have an assistant GM in Raider Dell and head of organizational operations Bob Marley, who carry quite a bit of influence.

This draft had there fingerprints all over it. I gave them a year, if it doesn’t work out, it’s back to DB’s and 40 times!!!

  • RaiderRockstar

Joey Clinkscales in, Jon Kingdon out

    no surprise…

“Reggie is gonna gut this place” – Hue Jackson

With a little cash-infusion, I would be ready to add a position to the department potentially.

We can call it Director of value analysis.

I will set up an interview with our department head.

Don’t worry, pissing in a cup is not required.

I’m starting to think knapp is clueless, why did Houston get rid of him? T. Pryor is a Cam Newton clone, don’t bring in these clowns to hinder his development. This guy is the real deal, he just needs playing time. I totally respect the guys at nflpost! Check out their scouting report on Pryor.

    @JFB (blog GM)

    Reggie drafted ZERO db’s

you called our secondary the worst in the league just days prior to the draft, called them a collective “turd sandwich” , didn’t you?

whats the plan now? Andre Goodman? wait for a few players with starting experience to be released from other teams? any undrafted kids catch your eye?

  • Just Fire Baby

My staff likes what we have in place, and there was not good value at CB whenver we chose.

We are apparently going with the better offense + better pass rush + better coaching = better secondary approach.

    Sounded reasonable enough.

  • chargerschoke

Man some the posters here are couch football analyst! Some I assume never played the game and haven’t any sense of who can play and who can’t! Chimdi was the steal of last years draft! He nearly shut down Plex and was making plays when he was on the field , those vets will not play ahead of him! Keep this post! The kid will be a starter and is a future all pro or top 100 player!

  • RaiderRockstar

    @JFB

were you tempted to go after Omar Bolden, Coty Sensabaugh, Brandon Boykin or Ron Brooks at #95 ???

Josh Norman, DeQuan Menzie, Chris Greenwood or Shaun Prater at #129 ???

Asa Jackson, Jeremy Lane, Keith Tandy, Mike Harris or Isaiah Frey with picks #158 & #168 ???

Jonte Green, Nate Ebner, Richard Crawford, Jordan Bernstine, Greg McCoy or Alfonzo Dennard at #189 ???

Antonio Allen, Trevin Wade or Terrence Frederick at #230 ???

None of these DB’s could be considered BPA when we were on the clock ??

Exactly how a proper team is built. I think Bob Marley is going to be getting a promotion at the end of the season. He’s one of my fav members of this board. His work is solid.

And dont worry about the cash infusion. A 10 win season will sell out every game again. I suggest with the extra money, brining in AIG and NY Chris to the staff.

#5 “Prospects like Eddie McGee and Derek Carrier are raw, but have a lot of upside.”

    **********************
You have Carrier as a WR but this guy is 6-3 240 if he can block a little he could be a TE prospect. I think a guy like this makes the roster over Calhoun or Gordon.

I also think Bergstrom beats out Carlisle and is even penciled in now as the starting LG. I also think Berris will compete for time along the entire line backing corps and not beat out Curry. Finally if they do sign Lienhart he is the 2nd QB. Pryor is 3rd until he proves otherwise in Pre-season. I like Pryor and he may become our Steve McNair someday but right now he is raw as can be. Otherwise largely agree. I would take your analysis over the NFLN “truck” or BSPN talking heads any day. At least we are familiar with the team and what is going on.

Marley is an awesome dude, but JFB & Reggie didn’t even consider a TE at #95.

He needs to have a little faith in the fearsome foursome: Myers, Gordon, Ausberry & Hardy

    what??

Leinart is a 1st round bust. Has no talent. He’s being considered because he knows Knapp’s offense and he’s probably a better option than Bomar.

I have exciting news for the 99% of you that hang in this shelter. As you know I attend every game at home and travel to a couple a year, (this year going to Miami again and also San Diego). I am setting up a really impressive blog, with video and pics links, as well as a story on the game day experience, the tailgating and row 1 experience. I of course as you know have the best tailgate parties, have friends that have awesome ones too that Brien and I always go to, and I of course have row 1 seats in the most primo location. So, will publish here all the URL info when the season starts, feel free to comment. The 1% of you who dont live in this shelter and actually leave the house in the daytime and attend games, well youre of course welcome to check out the blog as well. Raider Nation.

Are you saying that Bob was calling to pick a TE with our #95 pick?

I think JFB was saying that Bob’s hands were all over this draft, meaning, we got the guys he wanted. But if he was pushing for a TE then that is news to me, I missed that day.

Fill me in on what youre refering too.

  • 1960AutumnWind

Not that I am a big Linehart fan but when he came in for that game until his soldier was hurt he was playing really well last year.

You are not going to install Pryor as the 2nd with exactly one play experience in the NFL!!! He may well beat out Lienhart in the Preseason (which I hope he does) but why can’t you Pryor lovers see that he is extremely raw at this point. By the way I think Pryor could be the next McNair but he needs a lot of work.

  • Raider Riff

    Rockstar,

    Leinart is cheap
    He can run the offense
    He is accurate
He can spell an injured Palmer for a couple quarters

Those are pretty much facts would you not agree?

I believe that Leinart can also keep us as a .500 ballclub if Palmer were to go down for any amount of games. We have a very strong run game. Leinart only needs to pass when needed and mostly out of the play action, of which, he is a good play action QB. The guy is a vet with a good football IQ.

Personally, I dont care who is named the #2 or #3. I think its just a phantom title. I think that it needs to be a situational decision on who comes in in the event that Palmer goes down. If our running game is good, bring in Leinart. If the running game was already struggling, go with Pryor as he could add another dimension and make the D think. And quite frankly, if our running game doesnt have it that game, what the hell do we have to lose, Pryor couldnt make it any worse.

No matter what, playcalling will be more important than personel. We gave away the KC game at home due to some horrendous play calling, by a guy in Hue, that is normally a VERY good playcaller. That game couldnt have been worse played on his part and largely cost him the season and his job.

Who had Bergstrom down??? I did not think he would fall that far. When you have to consider how far someone can fall and the GM is saying he will pick BPA if you did pick Bergstrom you were more lucky than good. No one did as far as I know. I did think Alameda might fall and that’s who I picked but with all the issues he had he kept falling right through us.

  • Raider Riff

1980 is right. Leinart was playing good. When he has had time in his career to get some momentum, he’s looked like anything but a bust. He lost his job to a lights out Kurt Warner. Most QB’s would have been benched for KW.

And 1980 is also right about Prior. He needs another 2-3 years of development before he is even a rookie by NFL standards. Ohio St did him no favors. All the Gut and DA want to see is steady improvement and they will stick with Prior. He doesnt need to be polished right away. Just show progress.

  • Raider Riff

1960, I didnt pick Bergstrom but I did call for a OLineman. Had a pretty gnarly debate going with the GM JFB about it on draft day. No luck about it, I posted all my reasoning out in the open and took some heat for it but I stood by my convictions. AD would have been proud.

  • RaiderRockstar

He is accurate. he was playing really well last year

    ***

    Riff & AW

Leinart only attempted 13 passes in TWO YEARS with the Texans!

Also, his overall completion percentage is 57% and thats throwing to guys like Larry Fitzgerald & Anquan Bolden

If he’s such a great player, how come nobody wants him? Nobody else wanted him when Houston signed him the first time to a 1-year contract. or the following year when he re-signed for another year.

He’s made no visits with any other NFL team. No other team has even expressed interest. Pretty sad, I mean, even Kyle Boller got a tryout with Baltimore.

Keep the trash where it belongs … the unemployment line!

  • Raider Riff

    Im not saying he’s “great”

I am saying that he is a quality backup. Not going to bother debating #2 or #3 position, see my reasoning above.

I think he is an upgrade over Boller for sure. I simply dont expect that much from a backup QB.

Do you have a better suggestion than Leinart? Im all ears.

  • RaiderRockstar

He lost his job to a lights out Kurt Warner. Most QB’s would have been benched for KW.

Leinart has had his opportunities. He’s started 11 games. In those games he has 20 INT’s and fumbled 11 times

Pretty obvious ? Not to me.

I’m guessing Cork isn’t referring to firing Herrera or cutting Kam or Stan.

Probably isn’t the hiring of RM.

    So that leaves what ?

    Hiring Dennis Allen ?

    Is that it Steve ?

If you’ve got any backbone or journalistic integrity, you’ll state what the other move you consider to be questionable is – and articulate why you feel that way.

Quit beating around the bush, Steve.

Anyone else know what Steve is hinting at ?

That is pretty insightful! I was calling for an interior lineman but was more focused on Center as I knew we had little or no depth there. I also did not want to lose Wiz as a possible all pro guard.

With Bergstrum available at that slot – no way they were going to go with the Best Center available. I actually thought though that Alameda was going to get picked (because of his issues) would drop to us and we would take him to replace Henderson. I am glad to be wrong and happy we now have a starting guard instead of a backup at that pick.

  • RaiderRockstar

Why are so many Raider fans down on Pryor and up on Leinart?

weird. We’ve never even seen Pryor play for Oakland

it’s like saying we should go out and sign vet O-Liner Kirk Chambers in free agency because Bergstrom isn’t that good, isn’t ready, doesn’t have experience, too green, bla bla bla

Here’s the bio on Chambers per Roto:

    Falcons signed T/G Kirk Chambers.

Chambers has 14 starts, mostly of the desperation variety, in 67 games since 2004. He hasn’t played a snap since the 2009 season, so the Falcons have to hope he’s not needed beyond depth purposes.
