Raleigh McKenzie to join personnel department

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, May 1st, 2012 at 11:02 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Included among the scouting staff makeover for the Raiders will be the addition of Raleigh McKenzie, the twin brother of general manager Reggie McKenzie.

Sweeping changes were expecting in the department following the draft _ Reggie McKenzie hinted as much at the press conference announcing the hiring of Dennis Allen. The club confirmed Tuesday the release of Jon Kingdon a 33-year-veteran with the club.

When the Raiders finalize their scouting staff, the list also won’t include Bruce Kebric, who has been with the Raiders for 31 years.

Raleigh McKenzie played 17 seasons in the NFL, including 10 years with the Washington Redskins, and won two Super Bowl rings. He works as an elementary school special education teacher as well as a high school football coach in Herndon, Va. His role with the Raiders _ whether he’ll continue to be based in his home area or move west _ is not known.

The status of other Raiders scouts, including Calvin Branch, Zack Crockett, Angelo Coia, Kent McCloughan, Dave McCloughan and Mickey Marvin, is not known.

All have lengthy ties with the organization, either as a player, scout or both.

Tom Delaney, also of the personnel department, has been involved along with legal department staffer Dan Ventrelle in keeping coach Dennis Allen abreast of new collective bargaining issues for the offseason.

Junior had problems for years. Didn’t he have an altercation with a tramp reality star and the police were called. Tila Tequila or something.

    Oh poor NFL players.
No one put guns to there heads and made them play.
These dudes know what they’re getting into when they sign that dotted line and make millions.
I have no sympathy what so ever towards NFL players.

    Real classy.

Goodell is just trying to protect these players from their reckless, youthful selves.

I always thought suicide was a selfish, attention-seeking way to go out.

Seau goes down about 4 notches in my book for this stunt.

An Asian linemen? Thats a 1st for me.
Thats actually pretty fk’n cool. Hope he can play and snatch Barnes spot, but he’ll probably be a back-up.

    No, they didn’t know that.

Did they know they’d get beat up? Of course.

Did they know they’d get arthritis early and whatnot? Sure. I remember reading an interview with Eric Dickerson while he was still with the Rams saying “I hope they’ve cured arthritis by the time I retire, because I’m gonna have it big-time.”

Did they know they’d suffer brain injury after brain injury, and either end up with no short-term memory (like Jim McMahon), living under a bridge (like Mike Webster), or stricken with horrible depression and psychotic breaks (Andre Waters)? NO.

    That was Merriman.

Jr drove his car off a cliff last year. They claimed it was an accident. He was caught in some sort of an affair situation. It was then brushed under the rug. Now this. Pretty sad.

    DMAC,

My son, 6’5, 240lb, was recruited to play baseball for a major private university in Los Angeles. Being a stand out QB in high school he was courted by that university’s football program, the director of which thought my son might have promise as a tight end.

It was I who made the decision on that because my son was only 17 upon entering his freshman class. Given the risk/benefit ratio of playing college and/or professional football, I denied permission for him to try out. I am glad I did so.

    RIP Junior.

GB under RM had a great history of finding above-average talent that others had overlooked.
That team mostly overachieved based on their talent.
Anyone in here that thinks that they know more about football than Ron Wolf is, by definition, an idiot.

Reggie must be using a can of Febreze the size of a DC 10 to get the stank out of that building.
