Nose tackle for multiple Raiders? Kelly
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012 at 3:58 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Raiders coach Dennis Allen sat down with Tim Kawakami Wednesday and one of the nuggets during a 20-minute conversation is that Tommy Kelly would be the nose tackle should Oakland employ a 3-4 defense.
Allen has been steadfast in committing to a 4-3 or a 3-4 as a base, saying only the Raiders would be “multiple’ in scheme. Most of Allen’s background (Atlanta, New Orleans, Denver) has been in a 4-3. His defensive coordinator, Jason Tarver, ran a 3-4 as a co-coordinator at Stanford last year.
Kelly has played end and tackle with the Raiders, with the general consensus being he is best suited to the three-technique _ same as Richard Seymour.
Over the past two years, with neither Seymour nor Kelly being the prototypical run-stuffing tackle, the Raiders have suffered against the run.
Here’s a link to Kawakami’s column which includes a a transcript of his talk with Allen.

no nose tackle except for one on the practice squad, yikes
May 2nd, 2012 at 4:01 pm
-Q: Do you have a nose tackle right now in a 3-4?
-ALLEN: (Smiles.) Yeah.
-Q: Tommy Kelly?
-ALLEN: He can do it.
-Q: That’s pretty important.
-ALLEN: Yeah, you’ve got to have one of those guys. And I think we’ve got a couple guys on the team that have the versatility that they could be a 4-3 nose and a 3-4 nose.
-Q: Seems like a couple of those athletic guys you drafted could play the line in either scheme…
-ALLEN: Absolutely.

TK as the NT, doesn’t sound like a standard 3-4, but maybe some variation to it.
The Reggie watched the Packers play a 2-4-5 65% of the time and win a Super Bowl.

Not to keep beating a dead Charger but…I wonder if he went with the shot to the chest so that his brain would still be available for concussion studies?

Come on man, if the Raiders will let the guy in the building to do an exclusive with the HC, than suffice to say that the Raiders themselves, don’t feel that he is a Raider-hater.

And I am no Tim K fan, but I just don’t think he is a great journalist. Too choppy with his sentences, and just doesn’t flow as well as other columnists.
Poole seems like he has the axe to grind at times, but he is a far better journalist than Tim.
IMO
May 2nd, 2012 at 4:19 pm
New regime wants to make nice with the media. The relationship the Raiders had with the media didn’t exactly help their status over the past decade or so. Especially now that the team is finally embracing social media, it’ll help to have a less antagonistic relationship with journalists, especially the local ones.

Coach Allen thinks that TK can play nose in a 3-4?…..Oh boy.
May 2nd, 2012 at 4:21 pm
Anyone know what defense Stanford ran under Tarver?
Will he be relegated to being ‘asst’ under Allen? Not really a long pedigree there.

Damn just heard about Junior Seau’s passing, I met the dude at a bar once while he was still playing. He was an imposing physical presence but outwardly was very cordial and polite when speaking to him. Obviously there was no doubt on my mind he was on steroids, being just under 250 lbs and able to bench press 500+ pounds is unheard of.
This is the 8th dude from the 94 chargers SB team to lose their life..I wonder what kind of steroids these guys were taking at the time…and why isnt there an investigation being conducted? hmmm, anybody who thinks this isnt steroid / pain killer related is on something themselves. RIP Junior Seau

From former Notre Dame/current Saints offensive lineman Eric Olsen, via Twitter:
Wow this is a tough one.. When I was a frosh in HS Junior Seau worked the Jay Fiedler Football camp and at the end of one of the days he challenged any1 to a 1 on 1. Being one of the ‘big’ kids, I was volunteered by my buddies and went up in front of the whole camp to face this monster of a man. Shaking in my cleats, he gave me a wink before a coach gave the cadence. He let me pancake him. And he sold it too. I can’t even tell you how good I felt at that moment; it changed me forever. The whole camp cheered for me, a chubby kid that didn’t know if he even liked football. From then on I was addicted. All thanks 2 this 10 time all-pro that felt like making some snot-nosed kid’s day. Doesn’t seem like much but it meant a lot to me. Sorry for the essay just had to share. RIP Junior I’ll never forget what you did for me.

JFB,
Have you ever seen Krapawakami’s comments during the live chats during games? He literally just comes in their to talk trash and piss everyone off.
The guy is a attention whore. Far from a journalist. He seems to revel in how much hate mail he gets.
His articles always have a agenda, his compliments are always backhanded, and he’s clearly a 49er fan at heart.
I’d fight the guy if I ever came across him. The guy is a weasel. I cant stand him. I wish Herrera would have just sucker punched him when he had the chance.
May 2nd, 2012 at 4:30 pm
* Allen said the Raiders signed Matt Leinart because they felt they needed another veteran QB–to help out Carson Palmer, but also to help out Terrelle Pryor, too.
He said Leinart and Pryor (and I guess Rhett Bomar) are all competing for the 2-3 slots behind Palmer.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Huge fan of Tommy Kelly but I never saw him as being our NT. Can Kelly do it? I hope so. I wish Mr. Reggie would’ve drafted Josh Chapman and left Kelly right where he is.

Problem is, he’ll later use that interview against us.
Seriously, just wait and watch his comments during the games. Always inflammatory. And then he comments about how much hate mail he gets as if its a badge of honor.

May 2nd, 2012 at 4:41 pm
As far as Kelly and/or Seymour playing nose its just to give the Offense a different look…to have more to prepare for the week leading up to a game…
The job of a Nose is to not give ground and take up two blocks…if he can do that…it’s a win for the defense…Tommy Kelly has this ability…and a motivated Seymour does as well…..
Any time spent preparing for different fronts by our opponents is time taken away from their other preparation.
WIN WIN situation…
Another way to look at it is if we had a prototypical Nose of 350+ pounds he would give an indication pre snap of our intention before we line up…
Coach Allen wants to be multiple…moving in and out of fronts prior to the snap….
Some of you should just listen…just sayin’
May 2nd, 2012 at 4:43 pm
-Q: What has Pryor shown you in the workouts?
-ALLEN: That he has all kinds of talent. He’s not there from a mental standpoint, from a fundamental standpoint, which is true of 99% of the young quarterbacks that come into this league.
The other thing he’s shown me is, this guy’s a worker. He’s put in relentless hours and effort in preparation. He’s competing.
He’s wants to prove to everybody that he can be a quarterback for us in the National Football League. And we’re going to give him the opportunity to compete, and that’s what it’s all about.
-Q: Is there a chance down the road that you look at another position for Pryor?
-ALLEN: I would never rule anything out. But at this point in time we haven’t considered anything other than quarterback for Terrelle Pryor.
That’s what I want him focusing on–one day at a time, getting better, and trying to become the best quarterback that he can be.
-Q: And Pryor and Leinart are competing for the No. 2 slot?
-ALLEN: Absolutely.

This is all I’ve been saying. Nothing wrong with that. The kid’s been working hard. But those of you clamoring for him to take the #2, or even starting gig need to chill out.
May 2nd, 2012 at 4:45 pm
He also said he is bringing in a vet to help with being able to push Carson in the film room.
TP just doesn’t have the same football IQ as some of these other youngsters (Luck, RGIII, Russell Wilson, Cousins) do, and I think he is a bright dude, maybe Tressel stunted his growth by relying too much on his athleticism, and not preparing him enough for the NFL.
That’s really what these coaches jobs are, to help develop and groom these young men into whatever stage is next in their lives. But these selfish bastards of coaches do everything they can to go to some stupid bowl game that nobody will remember, and leave some of these kids lacking in certain areas.

May 2nd, 2012 at 4:51 pm
I don’t know about this “I would never rule anything out” bit on TP’s position switch.
Pretty safe to say that 98% of our team has ruled out any type of position changes, and at most they are going from inside to outside LB or T to G.
The other 2% who may make a change, like the Eddie McGee’s, do so because they are too athletic to sit down on the depth chart at their original position.
Same may be said for TP. Too good of an athlete to sit as the #3 and even #2 QB for 3 years, especially if Carson is balling. He will never see the field stuck as a backup QB, and that isn’t getting the best bang for your buck with that type of athlete.
May 2nd, 2012 at 4:52 pm
One thing a lot of folks and the media get WRONG is linking steroid use and brain trauma/illness.
There is NO link (at least yet) between steroid use and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). CTE is caused by trauma to the brain (concussions) and there happens to be a somewhat high correlation of people who take steroids to bulk up for high contact sports and the brain trauma caused by those same high contact sports.
Vegas, you might find some compassion for those who suffer from CTE. There are millions (maybe hundreds of millions) of us who do and it can be a real, very real problem. The brain gets damaged and the effects and aftermath of that damage can take time to manifest itself. Depression is simply ONE of the symptoms, there are MANY others. Any ONE of which can be VERY problematic for healthy life…

RaiderO That aint gonna stop these guys from hating on TP. They’ll read all kind sof crap into what he said a spew and misconstrue all of it. To save their point. It’s exactly what we said from day one If they coach him up this kid is a nightmare in cleats he just need\s to get up to NFL speed. Getting the ball out an dmaking correct reads,. The same as any rookie QB accuracy is NOT an issue with this kid………….period
May 2nd, 2012 at 4:55 pm

Vegas,
It has nothing to do with TP’s football IQ, but it is more about Leinart’s experience.
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:02 pm
The biggest problem TP faces is that he didn’t position himself good enough for the NFL to have a team make a major commitment to him.
A 3rd round pick is nothing. Teams waive them after a couple of years, all the time.
If he were a 1st round pick, we would be catering to him to get him everything he needs to be succesful. As a 3rd round pick, the honus is more on him to get up to speed. The staff HAS to focus it’s majority of time on the starter and winning games.
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:03 pm
I like the idea of not having to change personnel during a no huddle situation and still be able to call either a 4-3 or 3-4 base.

I agree. Some people ignore the facts, if it is going to help their argument.

How many QB’s do they produce? Any?
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:08 pm
One way or another, TP is going to make preseason a lot more of a must see than years before.

If TP has talent he will play, regardless of his draft status. Brady was a 6th rounder and things seem to have worked out ok for him.
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:14 pm
Footwork is the biggest area of improvement needed by Pryor for him to succeed at quarterback, he said.
“I need to make sure that my feet are right for every throw, so I can get the right power on it, because I feel like I’ve got a hell of an arm,” Pryor said. “But I’ve just got to make sure I get my legs into it, and that ball will just go where I want it. And if I just get it there and have accuracy, I’ll put it where the defender can’t get it. I feel that will be a big advantage to me.”
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:14 pm
I like TP but i dont see the big deal about him. IMO not our long term answer. New regime will use a high pick on another qb next year i think
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:15 pm

O,
Do you want TP to start week 1?????
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:15 pm
Raider O See what I mean some people can’t see past their own bias and ignorance. So why argue the kid will handle business………period
Leinart can’t throw paswt the 1st down marker on 3rd and 3 yet he’s a better passer better QB. You don’t do what TP has done and not be able to get it done. He was under coached but that day is over he’s right where he needs to be as long as Al Saunders is there he’ll be fine.
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:15 pm
In a salary-cap driven league, the guy who makes more gets the initial first chance.
Point being, the #1 QB will get the OC’s full-time, QB coach whenver he wants, etc, etc.
The backup, or even worse the #3, has to ASK when the QB coach can give him some 1 to 1. Will have to ASK when the OC has a few minutes to help him with his footwork. Doesn’t get to throw to Moore and DHB after some practices if the #1 is, so he has to work with the practice squad guys.
It’s football, it’s the biggest capitalist thing there is. It’s not socialisitic, the #3 doesn’t get the same chance as the #2, etc etc.
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:16 pm

Let’s not overexaggerate here. I don’t like Leinart one bit, and think Pryor should easily be able to beat him out.
But 3 yard passes? You realize that Leinart’s 2nd to last pass last year, was a laser of a 22 yard TD to his TE?
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:17 pm
No one is saying he is the day1 starter we’re saying this kid eventually will be the starter when that happens is anyones guess. What gets me upset is the moron’s who say he can’t play QB in te NFL yet bums like Leinart keep getting jobs……it’s not a level playing field if that is the case…………period

For the D sounds like the only sure thing is we won’t run man to man 90% of the time. Seems open after that. Which is good. Why not try out TK as a 3-4 NT? I don’t see it but it can’t make the run D much worse than it is already-that’s true with whatever scheme we run.
Its all about options and designing plays for the players you have, not trying to force a player into your scheme. Set up options to let the guys make plays and you could be surprised by the results. That and anybody who ain’t buying in gets benched or canned. Options and motivation, those are key.
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:28 pm
Vegas,
If TP was a 1st round pick and we didn’t have CP, would you want the team to add a vet QB or not? Adding a vet QB to help develop a young QB is important regardless of what round he was drafted.
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:28 pm
Listen son anyone who’s watched Leinart knows he’s a checkdown artist to say anything else is ludicrous. Laser my ass he couldn’t throw a laser if he had a rocket launcher strapped to his shoulder. I watched this guy at USC miss open rec’s 15 yards downfield he was eratic at times. Armstrength and accuracy it aint close between Leinart and TP………..period
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:29 pm
Call it a “good” QB or what have you, but after the last 10 years, I would probably cut of a tip of my pinky finger for a QB who will lead us to the playoffs and throw for 300 yards in a home playoff victory.
I think Palmer can do this, so I will save my fingertip for now.
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:29 pm
I think Al is haunting old rat face and that is why the fool picked Cousins. There is no excuse. He must have lost his mind.
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:30 pm

I still say he sucks and I don’t want him.
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:30 pm

*************************
Yes, but if he were a 1st round pick, he would be firmly entrenched ahead of him on the depth chart, damn near no matter what.
Since he is a 3rd round pick, he has to compete for it.
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:31 pm
If they are fairly similar, then why do you think Tebow is/ can be a good QB and TP should be converted to WR/ TE?
That’s my issue with your argument.
May 2nd, 2012 at 5:33 pm
Let’s look at the creme de la creme, Mr. Andrew Luck v. Oregon Ducks:
2011: Loss to Stanford 53 – 30
He threw for 271 yards and three touchdowns but threw two interceptions for the first time since last year’s Oregon game, lost a fumble and was sacked a career-high three times – one fewer than he had all season.
2010: Loss to Stanford 52 – 31
Stanford’s Andrew Luck was 29 of 46 for 241 yards and two scores. He was also intercepted twice.
Now let’s look at Terrel Pryor:
2010 Rosebowl: Ohio State v Oregon Ducks
Ohio beats the Ducks 26 – 17
Terrell Pryor completed 23 passes out of 37 attempts for a completion rating of 72.9% for 266 yds, with 2 TD’s and one INT. Pryor was also the rushing leader in the game for 72 yds.
There is a strong case to made that Pryor has what it takes to play in the NFL, which flies in the face of Andrew Luck who has similiar stats not only in the Oregon losses but most of Stanford’s wins too. Plus Luck can’t run, or has been convinced by his handlers that he is NFL ready to start and too elite to run. I say good “luck” to the Colts on their new acquisition. Hopefully there #1 pick won’t go the way of Leinart.
The only true measure will be the playing field. Let’s hope TP is coached up and is given a fair chance, which, by the way, I can’t see why he wouldn’t (be given a fair chance).

Leinart got a 1yr contract. Show and prove or keep it moving. Pryor can benefit from competition with a player who is playing for a job…even if he’s a bum. Regardless, CP needs to be healthy for the next 3-4 yrs for this team to be a championship competitor.

Really like that Herock got this position over Clinkscales. Not a fan of the drafts that dude has been involved in. Most notably ones that involved Vernon Gholston, Mark Sanchez, and Quentin Coples.
Although who knows how much of that was Woody Johnson and how much was based on Clinkscales’ scouting.

May 2nd, 2012 at 6:27 pm
If we’re looking at 1-tech/shade NTs, Houston or UDFA Dom Hamilton may fit the bill. The question is whether moving Houston just weakens another starting spot, and whether Hamilton can progress quickly enough.

Allen on Pryor
“this guy’s a worker. He’s put in relentless hours and effort in preparation. He’s competing.
He’s wants to prove to everybody that he can be a quarterback for us in the National Football League. And we’re going to give him the opportunity to compete, and that’s what it’s all about.”

May 2nd, 2012 at 6:44 pm
Actually, IF kelly can take on two blockers imagine what we could do to teams in pre-snap by shifting our base D. Its hard enough for a qb to identify rushers in a 3-4 anyways, let alone when he makes his pre-snap reads for a 4-3. This also gives us an edge on coverage reads as well. Coach it up Tarver

Nose tackle for multiple Raiders? Kelly
By Jerry McDonald – NFL Writer
Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012 at 3:58 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Raiders coach Dennis Allen sat down with Tim Kawakami Wednesday and one of the nuggets during a 20-minute conversation is that Tommy Kelly would be the nose tackle should Oakland employ a 3-4 defense.
*****
Jerry’s main takeaway does not quite/fully match up with the interview imo:
-Q: Do you have a nose tackle right now in a 3-4?
-ALLEN: (Smiles.) Yeah.
-Q: Tommy Kelly?
-ALLEN: He can do it.
-Q: That’s pretty important.
-ALLEN: Yeah, you’ve got to have one of those guys. And I think we’ve got a couple guys on the team that have the versatility that they could be a 4-3 nose and a 3-4 nose.
—-
when I read the interview, I see, primarily, that Allen says we have at least a couple guys on the team that can play NT. 3-4 NT and/or 4-3 NT. Kawakami asks a leading question whether Tommy Kelly is one of them, and Allen confirms he is. But that doesn’t even indicate a change from Kelly’s roles in the past in a 4-3, where he often lined up square on the center, ie “4-3 NT”. He lined up at 3, 1, & 0 technique in the past. When the Raiders lined up someone as 4-3 NT, it was usually Kelly, but the other DTs lined up there too at times. It’s a matter of a few feet or inches to one side of another, but more importantly whether you’re lining up square on the nose of an OL or shading to a gap.
The only fully new thing here is that Kelly could also play NT in 3-4 alignment
Obviously Allen thinks there is at least one other player on the roster who can play NT, in 3-4 and/or 4-3
A lot of people, myself included, felt that adding a new run stuffing NT/DT was a key for Raiders and help stabilize a DL that has some good personnel on hand for other roles
But Allen–and, as shown by the draft, most of the rest of the NFL, has different ideas.
It’s becoming more and more of a passing league, and teams are becoming less and less willing to sacrifice pass rush for a DL who is primarily a run stuffer. Of course, those pass rushers also need to be able to stop the run to have a successful defense, but run stuffing specialists aren’t valued in the NFL nearly as much as they were even a year or two ago
May 2nd, 2012 at 7:56 pm
In the past I’ve thought Kawakami was an inflammatory schmuck, but this is a pretty damn good interview. Gets Dennis Allen to go far beyond cliches and the completely obvious for the first time, though it more confirms common sense speculation than really giving insight.
Was letting the first real interview be done by Kawakami, who has in past had such a contentious relationship with Raider Nation an olive branch extended by Raiders HQ, or are Cork and Jerry jealous?
A main takeaway from interview to me:
-Q: We’re going to keep asking you this–do you have a feel for what your primary defensive scheme is going to be? Will you lean to a base 3-4 much of the time?
-ALLEN: We certainly are going to have that ability. And you guys will see once we get into OTAs and mini-camp.
We’re going to be multiple. I think the best thing that you can do is give different looks to the offense and make them prepare for different things, and yet make it simple enough for you that you can execute those things.
-Q: Is the key to that having outside guys who can play either LB or DE, depending on the alignment?
-ALLEN: It certainly makes it easier. I like having players that have versatility. I like having some ends that can stand up and drop and rush and do different things. I like linebackers that you can put their hand on the ground and make them a fourth rusher on sub downs.
You can’t have a team of guys that are versatile players. ‘Cause they have to have certain qualities–defensive tackle, you’ve got to be able to come off the ball and hold up against those big offensive guards and tackles and play the run…
But having those little tools, where you can move guys around, it’s fun as a coordinator.
May 2nd, 2012 at 7:57 pm
Tod McShay already did his 2013 mock draft. He is predicting the Raiders get the 6th pick and take Barkley.
Let’s take a look at McShay’s mock.
No. 6, Oakland Raiders
USC quarterback Matt Barkley
My take: Another USC quarterback to Oakland. I could see it. But I have a feeling Barkley is going to be drafted first or second. I don’t see Oakland getting close to being able to draft him.
May 2nd, 2012 at 8:00 pm
Kawakami interview and beat writer post draft interviews also make me feel more comfortable about the “god squad factor” which I have no problem with if it’s not overdone, but I was a little nervous about, feeling more comfortable now.
-Q: Reggie was asked about this and answered it–the issue of faith in putting together a roster, and what that means for a locker room.
So many of your picks have strong religious faith. Without going too heavily into this, how big a part of the process is that for you guys?
-ALLEN: Here’s what I think, I think we’re going to take into account football character and off-field character. We want good guys on this team, all right?
Now, we’re not looking for a team full of choir boys. But we are looking for guys that are going to be dependable on the field and that we can also depend on off the field, that aren’t going to be involved in a lot of personal issues and a lot of personal trouble.
I think that kind of goes hand in hand. Usually guys of good character, there’s a faith-based background to the way they were brought up.

Barkley is a devout Christian and plays acoustic guitar with a church youth group. His father Les co-owns an insurance business with his brother in-law. While he was a student at Mater Dei, Barkley’s parents started the Monarchs for Marines (M4M) campaign, where hundreds of Mater Dei students, coaches and parents volunteered to landscape and renovate youth areas on nearby Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. Barkley had a 3.77 GPA in high school and frequently speaks to young students about the importance of staying on top of school work.[40] His cousin, Robbie Boyer, was a walk-on at USC during Barkley’s freshman, sophomore, and junior years.[8] During his Christmas holiday in 2008, Barkley went with a group of friends and family to help run an orphanage in South Africa.[13][16] Barkley also appears on I Am Second, sharing the story of his Christian faith and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

What did Denver run last year on D.
****
I have done a little research re: Broncos’ D last year and can shed a little light here, but I’m not an expert on Denver’s D last year
Denver ran a “multiple” defense that was primarily a 4-3 in Allen’s only season as D-Coord.
The primary NT (4-3 NT) was Broderick Bunkely. A recent acquisition by the Broncos whose previous career arc was a mildly disappointing #1 draft pick, most knowledgeable observers said Bunkely had a career year last year as an important cog in Denver’s D.
Bunkely is about 6-2 and about 310 lbs I believe. He was a productive run stuffer and a little help on the pass rush.
The most important thing is how he was utilized. And it was different than the traditional (disappearing?) NT role. Rather than always sitting at the line and occupying multiple blockers and always having 2-gap responsibility, Bunkley often played on the move, and sometimes his role was to penetrate gaps rather than always sit at the line and occupy blockers. He made quite a few plays in the backfield. Denver mixed it up, kept the offense guessing. Allen calls it “multiple”. This seems to be a trend in the NFL, Allen appears to be on the cutting edge, and most of us blog Semi’s are far behind. So who are we to second guess Allen?
Obviously Bunkely has a much lower base than the 6-5 to 6-6 Kelly. Bunkely was known as a strong anchor player. Bunkely was considered by far the best 4-3 NT available in free agency , and signed with New Orleans for over $5 million per year I believe. Physically, Lamar Houston would be the Raiders’ DL who most closely resembles Bunkely , for what it’s worth. Travis Ivey is a former practice squad player who is listed only as a NT. The Raiders are supposedly high on him.
Allen took over a D that was worse than awful in 2010 (remember 59 pts Raiders win, Broncos worst D in NFL) and improved them to 20th and good enough to keep Tim Tebow in games and win 1st round playoffs. However, the Broncos had pass rushing LB Von Miller 2nd pick in 2011 draft, and RDE/LB Elvis Dumerville back after being out injured in 2010. The Raiders’ D hasn’t had comparable impact players, or even “difference makers” in awhile. I have high hopes that Sho’Nasty, and maybe Tyvon Branch, Ron Bartell, and others can approach that level, but we sure need some players to step up and really stand out on D, imo

Anyone here who doesn’t think Reggie was given full power to mop up Alameda and do as he sees fit for the betterment of the Raiders has their head up where the sun don’t shine. Reggie is pulling all the strings.

[...] Nose tackle for multiple Raiders? Kelly Raiders coach Dennis Allen sat down with Tim Kawakami Wednesday and one of the nuggets during a 20-minute conversation is that Tommy Kelly would be the nose tackle should Oakland employ a 3-4 defense. [...]

I’d much rather see Kelly be a DE in the 3/4. He’s too small now for a NT. He’s more of a UT. Kelly only started earning his keep when he slimmed down to his current playing weight. I do not like the thought of him fattening back up and returning to the Kelly of 3-4 years ago. BAD move. Keep him at his current weight so that he can perform as he has the last 2 years. Having Seymour and Kelly at DE and a monster NT would be awesome in plugging the middle for the run. Kelly as NT for plugging the run… not so good. Stay 4-3 for that. I would not have a problem with that as a alternate set in mixing things up. But, making that our base… not going to work well. Kelly would play worse with the added weight and after the year he’ll get cut and we’ll bring in someone else. Sign Franklin this year until we can find a more permanent solution at NT.

How exactly did our 2nd/3rd string QB become such a hot button topic??

See Kansas City game in Oakland, last year or Jacksonville game the year prior 2010 (the one where Bollar went in for one play for JCampbell , and promptly threw a pick)

I read a book about crabs and how they operate
But this itch feels like they penetrate
Them stalls are nasty and raunchy
Should of left my log in the laundry
Now my ol’ lady gave me the couch
While I scatch all night long and go ouch
RAIDAH RAIDAH HOLLA HOLLA JUST DONT SCRATCH AND KEEP A BALLA

It’s hard being a Raider fan and hearing demos like this.

Translation from coachspeak: Bye Bye So-longo McLame.
##################
Personally, I hope the kid does a 180. If not, fk him he won’t be a Raider anymore.
==================================================
I hope so as well. Aaron Curry came here and played well for the Raiders. McLame really didn’t. And he has off field issues. Judging from the way the front office and coaches are putting the team together, McLame is looking like one of those “wrong system fits”.
==========
May be some truth to that – Nate Stubpar was saying they wanted to look at him at MLB during his Q & A.
Q: What do the Raiders want? Did they let you know what they have planned for you?
Stupar: “Yeah, they were straight to the point. They were like, ‘We see you playing middle, doing some middle, getting right in there and getting some action at the middle. They know I can play some special teams as well and use my skills on special teams.”
