Heyward-Bey arrested, charged with drunken driving

By Steve Corkran
Thursday, May 10th, 2012 at 1:14 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Raiders starting wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey was charged with drunken driving by the San Francisco’s district attorney office as a result of his arrent last month, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Heyward-Bey reportedly was arrested on the Bay Bridge by the California Highway Patrol about 2 a.m. on April 7 after he was observed speeding and weaving.
“The team is well aware of the situation, and takes matters such as this very seriously,” the Raiders said in a press release. “The organization will continue to gather specifics, and continue to cooperate with all parties involved.”
After being pulled over in his Range Rover, Heyward-Bey, 25, failed a field sobriety test, the CHP told the Chronicle’s Matier and Ross. He was cited for alleged drunken driving and later released.
Heyward-Bey was “very cooperative” during the traffic stop, according to the report. His blood-alcohol level was not revealed. In California, 0.08 percent is the threshhold for drunken driving.
Heyward-Bey is scheduled to appear in court May 31.
He enjoyed a breakout season last year in which he amassed 975 yards receiving. He led Raiders receivers in receptions (65) and yards last season.
Heyward-Bey could not be reached for comment.

Clutched to his chest with both hands. That’s why he was weaving.

Bad news for him. Too bad as it will affect him for at least 7 years. Making the money he or any other of these players get, they should just hire a limo service. DUI’s are costly – At least $10,000 when all said & done.

Yup, but he can pay that off one time though…the SR22 sucks, but….it will be on his record for 7 years? I heard it upped to 10 recently, not sure though!

Does this not come with a penalty from the NFL for substance abuse? The Raiders have plenty of receivers, but this is not good. Wouldn’t surprise me if the Raiders release him and sign Palmer’s friend TO.

As a first time offender on a DUI charge, I don’t see any kinda punishment from the commish.

The tough, new no-nonsense sheriff in town Dennis Allen might try to make some sort of example out of him, though.

Some sort of fine. No way in hell he gets cut. C’mon.

  27. Dakota Says:

Pete Prisco’s list of players about to break out in 2012 includes:

“Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Raiders: Surprised to see him here? Don’t be. He showed his speed off late last season. With an offseason working with Carson Palmer, watch out in 2012.”

    Break out of where? Jail?

  28. bbq before the game Says:

Murphy is worthless he’s never come back for a ball in his life or ajusted to the underneath pass. He lets the defender do that while he looks around lost… hopefully criner can be the big man and the speedsters can get it done outside DHB -will never win you a game

  29. Just Fire Baby Says:

Lou Murph has made more clutch 4th quarter TD catches, than any other Raider reciever in the last 10 years.

  30. Area man Says:

Right now, players cannot be suspended for a first DUI offense. They can be issued up to a $50,000 fine. The reason is that a first offense falls under the substance abuse policy, not the personal conduct policy. I think they can also be fined 2/17ths of their paragraph 5 pay in their contract.

  31. bbq before the game Says:

the sad thing is that might be true he is not good in trafic and has given up several interceptions cause he won’t come back and high point… has been really bad last two years

  40. Dakota Says:

Louis Murphy forgot to read the warning on the bottle:

VIAGRA can help most men with ED. But it’s not right for everyone. Here are some other things you should know:

    Some men shouldn’t take VIAGR@.
Do not take VIAGR@ if you take nitrates, often prescribed for chest pain, as this may cause a sudden, unsafe drop of footballs.

Discuss your general health status with your coach to ensure that you are healthy enough to engage in football. If you experience chest pain, nausea, or any other discomforts during football, seek immediate medical help.

In rare instances, men taking VIAGR@ reported a sudden decrease or loss of vision, which may result in Nnamdi Asomugha giving you a concussion in practice.

In the rare event of an erection lasting more than 4 hours—also known as the coolest thing in the world-seek immediate jock strap support to avoid long-term injury, and bent-nail syndrome.

Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis died from a broken heart … this according to his death certificate obtained by TMZ.

The document reveals three primary causes of death:

    A) Ventricular fibrillation — a dangerously abnormal heart rhythm
    B) Congestive heart failure
    C) Cardiomyopathy — heart muscle disease

According to the death certificate, Al died at the Oakland Airport Hilton at 2:45 AM on October 8th.

The document shows Al had been diagnosed with cardiomyopathy years ago … and suffered a ventricular fibrillation just 15 minutes before his death. Davis also suffered from Merkel cell carcinoma — an aggressive form of skin cancer.

According to the doc, Davis — who was involved with the NFL for 60 years — underwent throat surgery just three days before his death. Davis also had heart surgery in 1996.

  44. Just Fire Baby Says:

DHB is clearly a better WR than Murphy, and will be more productive statistical.

But what have we got when we went to DHB late in games? Fumbles and drops, or the KC game where he batted the ball in the air for an INT?

DHB has been misery at end of games, while Lou Murph has been at his best.

Since today is a bit morbid, I found my self looking at this. My question is: How come no one called 911? Why was Al living at the inn?

Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis died from a broken heart … this according to his death certificate obtained by TMZ.

The document reveals three primary causes of death:

    A) Ventricular fibrillation — a dangerously abnormal heart rhythm
    B) Congestive heart failure
    C) Cardiomyopathy — heart muscle disease

According to the death certificate, Al died at the Oakland Airport Hilton at 2:45 AM on October 8th.

    ++++++++

As a healthy 38 year old male who has overcome B and C and A let me tell you about A–
B and C cause A: A: leads to sudden Vetricular Tachycardia–once V.T kicks in you got about 4 minutes or less to get smacked with a defibrilator to get you back into rythm or else your heart races like a Ferrari in Neutral with the gas pedal floored till it basically blows up (heart failure)…

Your question should be, why wasn’t he fitted with a pacemaker or had what I had done, a M.A.Z.E procedure (absolutely saved my life)

Answer: Most likely he didn’t want one, or his doctors thought the chances of V.T were low…either way, it is strange for a guy that age, with the Heart Issues he had, to not have a pacemaker…which have saved countless people from V.T..

    I agree on all those.

Although I think the Criner pick negates McGee, unless McGee has a great camp.

Tonga, maybe. If Gordon shows he cant handle it then, ya. Doubtful unless Tonga has gottn more athletic & learned to actually hold a block.

Giordano really has no value outside of umm.. “leadership”..lol

USFL folded right before they were gonna go head to head against the NFL.

Hopefully this time they’ll be smart and stick to playing in the spring and summer and not try to go against the “big boys”

Ha! I wish I could. It would be a lot easier if I was a local, though. Would hate to have a site like that and not be able to take advantage of media days, etc.

As far as fan sites go, the work that Vic Cotto and Levi Damien do is hard to beat. I’ll let them handle the dirty work.

I just like stirring up Raider-related conversation here.

The word is that Al was breaking down the Texan’s offense, looking at game film, and writing note for his contribution to the defensive game plan when he passed away. We all know th@ Al & the DC ran the defense for the Raiders, & the HC & OC ran the offense for the Raiders. I think Al lived in the Inn near the Oakland Air Port during his final years because his home in Piedmont had a lot of stairs & it was way easier to get to the Oakland Coliseum, the Oakland Air Port, & to get to the Raiders practice faculties in Bay Farm (The part of Alameda closest to East Oakland) from the Inn. I’ve also heard from Greg Papa that Al Davis was very sick since the 2004-05 season.

Herm Edwards just stated raiders should sign Cedric Benson.

I agree this a no brainer, durable too.

  111. Buckeyeraider Says:

I wouldn’t have a problem with bringing in Cedric Benson as a backup/insurance policy for Darren McFadden.

As explosive and valuable as DMAC is, he just can’t seem to stay healthy. Unfortunately.

Benson has stated publicly that he wants to come to Oakland and be reunited with Carson Palmer. Why Not?

He would certainly know his role, and would probably come fairly cheap.

The dude was a monumental bust as a top 5 pick for the Bears. However, he resurrected his career nicely in Cincinnati. He played some good football. Some people rightfully claim that 1,000 yrds ain’t what it used to be, but he did play in a division where he played four games against Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Benson ran hard.

As far as his legal problems, I think most of his trouble stems from drinking and boating and such. Hell, who hasn’t done that? I don”t think he’s another Pac-Man Jones or anything.

I don’t know much about this Goodman kid they got from Carolina. Taiwan Jones, as exciting as he may be, seems more like a change of pace back.

I wouldn’t have a problem bringing Benson in to fill Bush’s shoes. Worth a shot, IMO.

  112. Raider Riff Says:

This DHB is a complete non-issue for me.

A DUI is an extremely subjective charge against someone. Driving drunk and driving DUI-eligible are two completely different things. Simply because the officer claims that DHB was speeding and weaving means absolutely nothing.

80% of all cars on the road between the time of 10pm and 3am are DUI eligible. That is a fact the police know all too well. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel.

You dont even need to blow a .08 to be arrested or charged with a DUI.

Again, we’ll never know he exact facts in DHB’s case, and I dont really care what they are. It’s an absolute non-issue and borderline non story for me. I simply dont care.

He has long been regarded as one of the best punters in Division II and has drawn comparisons to current Raiders punter Shane Lechler for his ability to boom accurate punts that were both high and long, obviously a very desirable trait.

McClain – Mr.Say hello to my little friend – slow, weak, and dumb

Good Lord what a mess. Reggie will get it turned around, but it might take a few years.

Well I’m outta here Gents. Gotta a twelve and a half pound duece trying to bust loose. Maybe I’ll box it up and ship it off to the Smithsonian. Might even garner a few bill for it.

Carolina made it to the NFC Championship game their 2nd yr. of existence…an expansion team.

Reggie has a fairly young team with consecutive .500 seasons.

If he’s as good as alot of people think it shouldn’t take him a few yrs. Imo.

RD, Ha. I had to let you know a good one like that did not go unnoticed.

On another note wouldn’t it be weird if San Diego moved to LA and the city of San Diego panics from the loss of thier beloved Chargers and offers Mark Davis a kings ransom to come to…San Diego.

Never mind…I didn’t just say that.

The dissin R.McClain takes in this blog is kinda out of whack …slow weak and dumb???

Last i knew MLB dont need blazing speed and should not be chasing #1WR on one leg

Weak? when he didnt play, the defence was terrible,so to call him weak dont quite add up..Blackstock is weak

Dumb? so one of the smartest defensive players to ever be drafted is all of a sudden dumb within 2 years lol?

Im not giving up on any Raider player after 2 years and especially not McClain hes never been used in a scheme that benefits him or puts him in position to really succeed but with the transitioning/mixing of 3-4 his added maturity and a blitz crazy HC we will see
