Mini camp notes and observations

By Steve Corkran
Saturday, May 12th, 2012 at 12:26 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Just returned from the practice field for the initial look at the 2012 Raiders. Not much to report, given the media were limited to 30 minutes’ viewing time, with much of that consumed by players stretching, running and getting loose.
Once players loosened up, they broke into unit-specific drills. Those are performed at less-than-full speed and anything but revealing.
In short, all 60 players on the roster are participating in the second day of the rookie mini camp. Of those in attendance, there are all six players selected in the draft last month, 11 selected veterans, 13 undraftedd free agents that were signed soon after the draft, and 30 players in on a tryout basis.
In the past, the Raiders have granted full access to some of the mini camps. That isn’t the case this year. The media aren’t allowed to watch the remainder of the 90-minute practice. They also weren’t permitted access Friday.
From here, we will have access to interviews with offensive coordinator Greg Knapp, defensive coordinator Jason Tarver, coach Dennis Allen and players requested in advance.
I shall write later about what the coaches have to say, as well as selected players such as linebacker Miles Burris and defensive tackle Travis Ivey.

A few interesting absentees it seems.Makes you wonder if certain players who could use the time here were excused.

What a rip! NFL Network is showing highlights of other teams, the 49ers camp was all over the local news. Seriously Reggie loosen the ropes man! Do you really think other teams will gain some advantage by you allowing the media in? Get over yourself!

On the plus side, Raiders’ press has been freed from the `penalty box.’ Larger area in which to roam.
