Raiders lock up half their 2012 draft class
By Steve Corkran
Thursday, June 7th, 2012 at 8:48 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders signed defensive ends Jack Crawford and Christo Bilukidi and linebacker Nate Stupar on Thursday. That leaves only three of their 2012 draft class unsigned.
Crawford was the first of Oakland’s two fifth-round draft picks, Bilukidi its sixth-rounder and Stupar the only seventh-rounder. Third-round draftee Tony Bergstrom, fourth-rounder Miles Burris and Juron Criner, the other fifth-rounder, have yet to sign.
The Raiders won’t have any issue signing the remaining three draft picks.

You are late in reporting. Burris 4 yr deal signed.
Ivy, Kelley & Houston @ NT/DT in the middle of the d-Line, Burris & Wheeler as OLB and McClain & Curry at ILB. Seymour, Shonasty, Bryant & Tollefson @ DE. Huff & Branch @ safety with Spencer & Bartell starting at corner. This Defensive alignment could work well.

Has a hidden vid recorder for future entertainment, has a gps system to prevent theft, and can even withstand rain. Has a hidden whip cream dispenser. Comes with attachments for slurpees or cubed ice. Has several 15 gallon compartments for assorted beverages or cream soups, tubed hamburger and liquid butter. Small microwave for popcorn, prophylactic dispenser and twinkle lights border the edges. Has bbq ability. Stands five point two five feet tall, thirty inches in depth and seventytwo inches wide, with coasters. Polished chrome face, stainless steel and copper plumbing. Going to call it the tailgate assortment, or T and A for short. The TnA will be on display real soon in the south lot at home games. This bad boy is for real, ready to hit the road. Exclusive sales only, will retail on cable tv. Probably 8-9 thousand dollar price range for the upward mobility type. A chick magnet to say the least.

I think it’s kinda inevitable that Moore and criner will be our x and z. If not day one, at some point this year. I will say tho that if dhb keeps improving his hand catching as he has been extensively working on it this off season that he could stay the cemented starter due to his usually good ability to stay healthy. Moore is still kinda skinny and could be nicked up all year again, and its almost guaranteed that criner will hit that physical rookie wall. There’s a good chance someone like mcgee streater Calhoun etc can get opportunistic and rise up the depth chart due to injuries

June 8th, 2012 at 5:37 am
From Raiders.com:
Q: You were around some great receivers in New Orleans, and then Denarius Moore who seems to be on the cusp. What have you noticed from Denarius Moore compared to some of the guys you’ve been around?
Coach Allen: I would say he’s an exceptional route-runner. He’s got great speed. I’m really looking forward to working with Denarius. He’s going to be a really good football player for us. I would compare him to, as far as route-running, I would say he’s a lot like Lance Moore that we had there in New Orleans, but probably a little bit faster and little bit more of a down-the-field threat.
*********
I like the comparison that coach Allen made of Denarius Moore to Lance Moore. I can see Criner taking the Marques Colston role. Ford can take the Devery Henderson role as the big play threat. We don’t have a TE like Jimmy Graham, but maybe Ausberry can develop. I can see CP3 spraying it around like Brees does in New Orleans. And I can also see Knapp running a fast break, hustle to the line quick and wear out the defense type pace. I think this team is going to be fun to watch.
June 8th, 2012 at 5:40 am
@38 Agreed. If Palmer can get going, he should always have somebody who gets open. I think the O-line is going to play their a$$ off also.
June 8th, 2012 at 5:45 am
And someone we have that the Saints don’t is Marcel Reece. He’s a different type of player than Darren Sproles, but can be just a lethal an “X” factor.
June 8th, 2012 at 5:48 am
Yep, and we won’t have to worry about Reece getting crushed, like Sproles does sometimes. Teams better watch out when they see DMAC and Reece in the backfield.
June 8th, 2012 at 5:53 am
Coach Allen is a defensive coach, and so his experience with New Orleans isn’t as big an influence on the offense as Greg Knapp’s experience with Houston.
But I hope that he patterns his offensive attack against the Saints. We have similar weapons and a finally a QB who can play the Brees role. Just need to get everyone on the same page and then speed up the RPM’s on this mutha.
June 8th, 2012 at 5:53 am

That’s right. Just have Criner and Berstrom to go. Should be happening shortly. The important thing is we have all hands on deck. Remember Jamarcus’s long holdout back in his rookie year? That affected the entire team and really stunted what the coaches were trying to get accomplished.
It’s big to have everyone in camp, ready to learn. They will get better, faster, crisper with more time together.

There’s a formula, let LeBron carry your team for 3 quarters and have Wade take over in the 4th, they didn’t need Wade to close things out last night, but they will.
Like having a great pitcher throw 7 innings and then bringing out a nasty closer to finish the game.

I just hope the young man learns, shuts his mouth, and performs on the field. Let the plays talk for him.
Till then, he needs to put a lid on it.

Remember Brees signed a 6 year 60 million dollar deal, then went on to crap the bed in a playoff game against the Bears (3 turnovers, one pick six, one intl grounding for a safety) and followed that up with two years of not making the playoffs.
He out-performed his contract on the back end, but it says here he was overpaid his first few years of that deal.

“It’s a vision defense. We see a lot of stuff so I’m going to make a lot of plays this year coming up.”
What’s a vision Defense?.
I’d say he means we’ll be agressive in the front 7 with several blitz packages mixed in with some natural pressure while trying to keep things in front of the DB’s and have them react as the play develops, instead of each guy picking up their man and running with him, that would allow the DB’s to make more plays as DVD says.

@G123
only 2 teams expressed interest in Brees after that nasty injury to his throwing shoulder. Miami needed a QB, but they didn’t want to mortgage the future on a guy that may never come back from that at 100% and be an effective starter. I’m sure 31 teams in the NFL regret being completely sold on Drew Brees, the Raiders especially.
If you recall, the QB we grabbed in free agency prior to the ‘06 season was Aaron Brooks.

Imagine how dumb the Dolts feel, getting rid of Brees for Rivers. Brees owns Rivers in every category imo
June 8th, 2012 at 6:23 am
Drew Brees could have easily been a Raider. Al Davis has never shied away from players coming back from injury.
Brees just wasn’t the type of player Davis coveted.
in all fairness, if Brees [especially coming back from injury] played behind our O-Line in 2006 in that bed & breakfast offense … it would have ended his career and he would be out of the NFL since 2007, like Brooks
June 8th, 2012 at 6:24 am
Aaron Brooks didn’t love football.
He left after us and went on to go carve a nice niche as a commerical real estate guy.
June 8th, 2012 at 6:26 am

2 of the first 3 years they didn’t make the playoffs, and finished 3rd and then dead last in their division.
Not “disappointing playoff runs”, but finishing in last place in their division and not even sniffing the playoffs.

I hope and fully expect the haters to come out in full force this year. I want the Raiders to be predicted last last in the AFC West. Then SD thinks they’ll blow us out or stomp our faces in like Week 17.
we come in totally unexpected and slap the heck out of them, embarrass them on every level

Raiders signed fourth-round LB Miles Burris to a four-year contract.
In a pre-draft sleeper article, NFL Films’ Greg Cosell called Burris “one of my favorite players to watch on tape” for his intensity, versatility, and skill as a “speed/power rusher.” Burris has worked behind WLB Aaron Curry in OTAs, but he could be the Raiders’ strong-side linebacker of the future.

Charlie Casserly on NFLN:

Ochocinco’s NFL days could very well be over
I would not be surprised if it was over. Ochocinco’s physical skills have diminished, and he is not a disciplined enough route runner to overcome this decline. Also, when you sign a veteran receiver at the end of his career, you want him to be a leader. Chad is not a leader. He is not a starter and can’t help on special teams.
I think this is it for Ochocinco. I would not sign him.

what do you mean a fluff response? CP3 has a history with Ocho. Many people think he was fed of with him, I wouldn’t want to sign Ocho if CP3 didn’t want him. That is common sense.
If DA wants to add him because he wants to see what he has left in the tank, then so be it.
My opinion was the same last year. If Hue wanted to add him to help the team, great, if not, I dont care. You are twisting my words around Rock. I wasn’t some great champion for Ochocinco, but I DID say I would rather him than TO last year, because Ocho was healthy and TO was not.
At the end of the day I don’t give a rats ass about Ochocinco. I could care less if he joins our team or not. I don’t think we need him. If they sign him and he proves useful through camp… awesome.

Prior to training camp, I probably DID say Ocho would be our #1. Not hard to believe that.
I still maintain that the Patriots system IS very complicated compared to what the Bengals ran. The Bengals run a numbered route tree 0-9, the patriots have names for the routes that change depending on formation. Very complicated. By the time Ocho was up to speed on that, Brady was already comfortable with his other guys. THEN, by midseason Ochos confidence was so shaken that he had no chance to succeed. They have choosen this season to move on from him.
I believe he will be signed somewhere, not for another month or so. No one will be in any hurry since most OTAs and mini-camps are done, and players are off until camp. Someone will bring him in to camp, and I think he will be productive… unless Miami or Cleveland sign him… then not so much.

We don’t need some washed up receiver who will make more money than he’s worth.
Next thing you’ll want to bring Walker back for another shot.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:07 am
I don’t hate Lou Murphy. I think he’s a fine deep threat & blocking WR. not a chain mover or a guy you’d trust with those tough catches in traffic though.
we could do worse if he’s our 4th or 5th WR. It would take 2 or 3 injuries for him to get his starting job back imo
June 8th, 2012 at 9:08 am
If we cut murph for mcgee or calhoun or ocho, ne or den will scoop up murph and proceed to make us look like a$$holes..
June 8th, 2012 at 9:09 am
Also keep in mind the 10 yr vet minimum is $925K. That’s a big piece of change for someone to take a flyer on. And all he would do is take away reps from the kids practicing with the ‘ones’, and stunt their development.
Say no to Ocho and TO.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:11 am
If LM can’t get his hammy right in July to prove himself to the new regime, it’s only a matter of time till he’s let go.

***************
1. Players playing on the vet minimum only count $450k against the cap (even though they get $925k)
2. None of that $925k is guaranteed unless he makes the team for week 1, which would obviously show that through camp he had proven himself.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:14 am
Murphy is making more than that!
********
cut him! A UDFA like Streater or street free agent like Calhoun can replace his stats and be an impact on special teams. Easy business decision for Reggie.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:14 am
LM has career #s very similar to dhb. Theres no reason to cut him for a nobody.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:15 am
Its also worrisome that Murph is hurt AGAIN. There were many a poster in here chanting to trade McFadden because of his injury history, even though he has shown to be a top 5 RB when healthy. Murphy hasn’t done a whole heck of a lot when healthy and is injured as frequently as DMac.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:20 am
LM will be at least the 5th wr.
All or wrs wete hit by injuries last yr..
June 8th, 2012 at 9:25 am
I didn’t realize Murph was a ’somebody’. lol
If he truly had flashed more potential when he was healthy, I could see him staying on reputation. But he’s been upgraded and pushed down the depth chart. At the level he’s competing with, there’s some fiery young WR’s who are going to make plays in camp and on the field while LM is going to be icing down and drinking gatorade on the sideline. The cruel reality is that this game changes that quick and turnover is quite common.
June 8th, 2012 at 9:26 am
Louis Murphy was almost shot as he was mistaken for an alligator on “Swamp People”
June 8th, 2012 at 9:31 am
Happy with a top 3 of Moore, Ford, DHB. And if Criner matches his OTA performance with the lights on, even better. I think we have bigger fish to fry than our 5th WR. Besides, neither of those two guys would come on as a 5th.

We have 4 young & capable WRs (Moore, DHB, Ford, and Criner), we have a good backup in LM, and we should keep a young guy to develop.
We don’t have a need/ room for the 2 Divas.

June 8th, 2012 at 10:28 am
LM’s best days were before his shoulder injury. He got hurt, got alligator arms. Past stats don’t count for anything. It’s what you do on the field right now. And right now, he’s nursing a hammy. Right now, he’s got 4 wideouts that legitimately are better than LM was in his prime. That’s a lot to overcome.
I’d rather have a couple of young, hungry upstart WR’s who will bust their balls as gunners on kickoffs.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:30 am
JFord has the instincts, hands, ballhawk skills that DHB will never have. You don’t learn those abilities. You are born with them. Ford has the body control and coordination to make in-flight adjustments and fight thru a defender to pluck the ball from him. DHB can’t in a million years make the catches Ford can.
June 8th, 2012 at 10:30 am
Yes, Ford’s KR skills are unmatched on the team, but he has alot to be desired of as a receiver; aside from that outstanding performance against KC as a rookie, he hasn’t done MUCH.

I know that I’m reading into DA’s comment comparing DMo17 to Lance Moore. But it got me thinking….
What if we could model our offense on that fast break team. We have the QB for it. Palmer…Brees
We more than have the RB’s for it.
We have the line for it.
We even have the receiver for it.
Time to get aggressive GKnapp.

I’ll take MM34 on this one

Ouch, Tx
that would suck for him. Guy gets over a knee injury and as soon as he returns to the field, pulls a hammy?

Yeah I hoping not, but dude is always pulling something. Do you think MM makes the team anyhow? I’m not sure on that one..

You are a good church going man and I think sometimes when a player has character issues for better or worse that shapes your opinion perhaps more than there actual talent level. No disrespect because I think we all have our favorites. I just think sometimes you will like/dislike a player more based on who they are as a person and not as a player. I find myself more likely to pull for guys like DHB as well “the hard working guys”. At the same time I don’t tottaly dismiss the potential of say a Rolando McClain type as you have.

I found a video of DHB making tough grabs across the middle, in double coverage, where he’s about to take a big hit, one handed TD grabs, circus catches on the sideline, toe tapping the sideline while the defender tries to push him out, breaking tackles, making the big play in overtime, outracing players after the catch, and yes, a tough over the soulder grab against New England in DOUBLE COVERAGE
it’s a 9 minute video and probably the first 7 minutes have Russell, Gradkowski or Campbell as his QB and he’s STILL making plays for them.

All the hate on Lou Murphy last year, but I bet you didn’t know Jacoby Ford was created with more drops than Murphy last year now did you?
Murphy also had a better per catch average than Ford, and only 4 less catches, while he also outrushed Ford in total yards and yards per carry (and Murphy didn’t fumble in his 6 carries, Ford fumbled one of his 3).
Just about any way you slice it, Louis Murphy was less hurt and more productive than Jacoby Ford was last year.

One advantage the Nation has, is the unknown scheme factor. The new coaches and scheme alone should worry opposing coaches imo. How do they prepare to play us when they’re not certain what they’ll see?
****************************************
Yep Tx. and let’s hope we don’t become predictable and vanilla.
—————
I think if Knapp calls a vanilla offense, DA will step in and put him in line. With these weapons, our PPG should improve imo
***********************************
I hope so. Coach DA does seem to be a no nonsense type of guy and I am cheering for him and hoping he succeeds many years at being our HC. As a matter of fact I hope he coaches better than Gruden and Belicheat. lol
————————
I will remain optimistic also, but I think we finally have our guy as HC. Even Cork seems to think DA is a very bright, energetic and hands-on coach. I think he leads the Raiders back to Greatness!
June 8th, 2012 at 12:35 pm
Jacoby Ford = 6 fumbles in 112 total touches
DHB = 2 fumbles in 105 total touches
Murphy = 2 fumbles in 103 total touches
D-Mac = 13 fumbles in 669 total touches
Basically, everybody offensively averages a fumble every 50 touches, Jacoby one for every 19.
Got to clean that up, because that is unacceptable.
June 8th, 2012 at 12:36 pm
@353 Great point JFB…those stats point out a glaring problem that Ford should work on.
June 8th, 2012 at 12:37 pm
Not trying to bash Jacoby, but not sure why he gets such a pass and people just keep racking Lou over the coals.
June 8th, 2012 at 12:39 pm
Jacoby is a dangerous kick returner, plus he makes the occasional spectacular catch…..
Murphy’s highlights all came in his rookie season. Injury barred, his performance has started downward.
June 8th, 2012 at 12:40 pm
Had Murphy been on the field the entire year, DHB would have still outshined him….and that says lots.

JFB, could be because he saved us in the KC game his rookie year. Murph contributed to one of my favorite games ever..at Pitt a few years ago. Remember Grads and Murph exploiting Ike Taylor(i think)? And didn’t Murphy catch the game winner in that one too?

2010 Jacoby Ford 25 catches 470 2 TD’s
2010 Lou Murph 41 catches 609 2 TD’s
What am I missing? The last two years, Lou Murphy has been more productive as a WR than Jacoby Ford, and last year he was more productive running the ball as well.
June 8th, 2012 at 12:58 pm
Oh well, I look for both of them to be productive in there own seperate ways.
I don’t think Ford’s value as a ST is as great as people think. Kickoff returns are being phased out of the NFL, and you don’t even get a chance to return the kick half the time these days anyways.
June 8th, 2012 at 1:02 pm

June 8th, 2012 at 1:03 pm
JFB, I say we use Murphy against mentally-weak DB’s like Asante.lol I think he can piss him off and draw flags all day
June 8th, 2012 at 1:04 pm
I love Jacoby in space, hell he may be the best open field big-play threat in the NFL.
It is just hard to get a 5′8, often injured, average-at-best route runner into that space.
Murphy has nowhere near the speed and explosiveness, but he is a clever route-runner and gets behind people, and has proved valuable running the ball at over 11 yards per carry for his career.
June 8th, 2012 at 1:04 pm
I have a comment.
I remember when DHB was drafted and how I was thinking that AD had gone completely psycho with the pick. I wanted Crabtree.
Now here it is three years later, DHB is emerging as a potential star for the Raiders and Crabtree is still struggling.
I guess the old man wasn’t completely gone after all.

Burris (6-2, 236), was the Raiders’ fourth round (129th overall) in this year’s draft after being named a two-time All-Mountain West Conference first team selection at San Diego State. He led the Aztecs in tackles as a senior, posting 78 stops including 46 solo tackles, and 19.5 tackles for loss. Burris added eight sacks and three fumble recoveries as a senior.
The Granite Bay, Calif., native led the Mountain West Conference with 9.5 sacks as a junior, which ranked as the seventh-highest single-season total in program history. He also led the team with 80 tackles and was named the 2010 San Diego State Student-Athlete of the Year.

Woot-Woot!
WR Louis Murphy underwent groin surgery during training camp last season. He said he never was 100 percent healthy in 2011, despite playing 11 games. “I just wanted to help the team out any way possible, and I just gave it my best,” said Murphy, who caught just 15 passes for 241 yards and no TDs. “Oh man, it was frustrating. I am back and I feel good . Just ready to get it going.”
June 8th, 2012 at 1:32 pm
WR Louis Murphy had a combined 75 catches for 1,130 yards and six TDs his first two seasons but caught just 15 passes for 241 yards and no TDs during an injury plagued 2011 campaign. “I have a big chip on my shoulder,” said Murphy, a fourth-round pick in 2009. “I have a lot to prove. … I haven’t played my best ball, and I know that those years are ahead of me.”

June 8th, 2012 at 1:44 pm
Once he joined the Raiders last summer, Pryor had some memorable conversations with Davis, in which the owner often told Pryor what he expected from him. Pryor said he talked to Davis on the phone a couple of times a week up until Davis’ death. Now that he is gone, Pryor uses his short time with Davis as motivation as he tries to make the climb from risky pick to starting NFL quarterback.
“That drives me,” Pryor said in a recent session with media members. “Because the last pick — the last pick may not mean anything. I might not mean anything to anybody. But to me, you know, it kind of felt like — last pick of a guy that made a legacy of football. He was just a well-known guy. Being the last pick … I mean, that’s special, just in that sense, just how his name is always brought up. He’s on HBO shows now after his death. It’s just an honor, how much I have to, I want to.”
Listening to and watching Pryor say those last words was telling. It was clear how much succeeding for Davis meant to him.

Much of the WRs success or lack thereof is predicated on health. The young guys need to stay healthy to be able to learn the O, get some jiggy with the QB and get their confidence up.
That latter item is where Degnarlious and seemingly this Criner kid do NOT lack. They gots the goods and they know it, where some others youngsters (ahem, DHB, ahem Louis) need some time to build up…

Raiders sign OL Howell, release FB Robinson
June 08, 2012 3:41 p.m. – by Eric Gilmore
The Raiders announced Friday they signed free agent OL Nick Howell and released FB TreShawn Robinson. Howell was signed by Tennessee in 2010 as an undrafted free agent out of USC and spent time on the 49ers’ practice squad that season. The 49ers cut him during training camp last year. After signing a reserve-future contract with New Orleans, Howell was released by the Saints in May. Robinson is an undrafted rookie out of Idaho.

Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie: Lions’ Martin Mayhew making right moves
Reggie McKenzie spent 18 years in the Green Bay Packers’ front office before leaving to become Oakland Raiders general manager this off-season.
McKenzie saw the Lions go from good to bad to good again, and he said earlier this year that, with Martin Mayhew as general manager, the latest playoff-contending version is here to stay.
“Oh, they’ve come a long way,” McKenzie said. “The one thing Martin does, he makes sound decisions. Me being up there in Green Bay, every time he makes a decision I said, ‘Damn, that makes sense. That makes sense.’ I thought it was a good coaching hire and some of the coaches that I kind of knew about I said, ‘Man, that was a pretty good hire.’
“So he’s making some really good decisions as far as I’m concerned. He’s definitely already turned it around, and I think they’re going to keep going in the right direction.”
McKenzie said one hallmark of the Mayhew era has been making smart, understated choices in free agency.
The Lions didn’t make much of a splash on the free-agent market this year — their biggest acquisition, Jacob Lacey, got $1.3 million to be the nickel cornerback — and McKenzie said the bargain signings of Stephen Tulloch and Eric Wright last summer are a big reason the Lions are coming off their first playoff berth since 1999.
Tulloch re-signed for five years this off-season, and Wright cashed in for a big-money contract in Tampa Bay.
“That’s the thing that we kind of lived by in Green Bay with Ted Thompson, you don’t have to make the big splashes,” McKenzie said. “You want to try to upgrade your team, but to make splashes just to make them, nah, you don’t need to do that. Just get some good football players and we can figure out a way to get them on the field.”

No, that ain’t gonna happen. Curry played surprisingly well for us considering he had to learn the system on the fly. His run defense was particularly good. I don’t see Burris coming in and running AC off. Right now Burris needs to come in, learn a couple of positions and maybe play on special teams.

@Tx,
Yeah man, you remember when he Pursued Ryan Mathews on a sweep? Curry blew him the “F” up, behind the line of scrimmage.
He was even ear-holing Tight Ends and cleaning them off their feet.
June 8th, 2012 at 3:45 pm
I think it was Curry as well that “Took OUT” San Diego’s Right Tackle, that paved the way for all those Wimbley SACKS that game.
June 8th, 2012 at 3:46 pm
@440 Yeah he can put the hurt on some RB’s for sure man, but I’m sure he’s working on cover skills, since he knows he can put someone on the “jacked up” list.lol
June 8th, 2012 at 3:49 pm
I have always thought Curry would be better inside. But, Curry wants be outside because it’s more fun, plus he is more valuable as an OLB. His pass rushing skills have not really developed which is why he was initially rated so highly. Scouts thought he would be an LT clone pass rusher.
One of the major problems with the Raiders is we have not had a solid MLB since Biekert. And Biekert was NEVER expected to land the starting role for years. But Biekert is a heady guy and certainly a tough guy, and that was that.
June 8th, 2012 at 3:50 pm
Curry and all the LB’s will get more opportunities to blitz as well. I think he could be good at it.
June 8th, 2012 at 3:52 pm
I’d like to see Curry smashing guys on running downs, but Burris on passing/blitzing downs. Not right from the start, but a gradual climb in reps for Burris.
June 8th, 2012 at 3:54 pm
Yeah, Curry has the Blood Lust.
He’s gotta be a “See Football, Kill that man”
“See Quarterback, Kill Quarterback”
Guess he got too overwhelmed with the exotic schemes in Seattle, combined with the pressure of his draft status. Now he can just be a killer for us with one responsibility per down.
June 8th, 2012 at 3:56 pm
yeah, I think Burris will probably play out a style similar to Clay Mathews. Not sayin he’ll be just LIKE Clay but, play a similar style.

============================================
The Raiders are really hoping that Curry was lost in systems. Pete Carroll didn’t draft him, and Curry said he spent his time watching tape of Carroll’s Seattle defense, not the opponents offense. He said he had never done that before. Now again, that is a good thing to do before the season starts, but most film study you would think would be the opponent.
Jackson brought him in here to wreck havoc and for the most part he did that. Now again, we have new coaches and a new scheme so it will be interesting to see where AC fits in all of this.

I have zero confidence that Curry is going to be productive in our new, much more complicated defensive system.
He was at his best last year in the Al Davis simplistic system, and truth be told he wasn’t all that great then.
I don’t think he starts more than half the games this season, if that.
June 8th, 2012 at 4:14 pm
But if the poor bird is stuck with his last name, I may be forced to color him Silver n Black…make him feel like a man again.lol
June 8th, 2012 at 4:16 pm
Curry might carve a niche as a short-yardage, goalline situation.
But I think this will be a mostly 4-3 team this year, with Rolando, Wheeler and Burris your 3 starters, and Curry, Goethel and some others picking up the scraps.
June 8th, 2012 at 4:18 pm
I believe Burris will be our best draft pick, Wheeler will be our best FA pickup, and Rolando will be our most improved player this next year.
Not sure where Curry fits in with all of that, but we shall see.

Curry kind of got under my skin with his big celebrations after meaningless tackles. Kind of reminded me of the Thomas Howard days.
The best one was in the Lions game, where the RB ran for 2 or 3 yards and got a first down, and both he and Curry (the tackler) both jumped up and celebrated at the same time, lol.

I would disagree. I think Curry played well all things considered. Wimbley really was limited and McClain didn’t play that well. Wimbley is gone, and while the coaching staff is talking up McClain, they are clearly looking at other options.
June 8th, 2012 at 4:24 pm
I’ll take Rolando’s simple salute, Seymour’s casual “X” or D-Moore’s smooth watch-tapping over Curry’s over-the-top enthusiasm, Ty Branch’s Chi-Chi Rodriguez thing, or Lamarr Houston’s Hulk Hogan celebration.

While of course you don’t want to show too much in the preseason, but this team needs a lot of practice in it’s schemes.

Pick up Chad Johnson and drop Louis Murphy ASAP…
Both Coach Allen & Reggie Mac say they are always looking to upgrade at ALL positions…this is a major upgrade!
Chad Johnson is a 6 time pro bowler who fits in perfectly with the scheme we will be running this season.
Johnson and Moore can stretch the field vertically and can make big plays in the passing game.
DHB is improving, but is not the deep threat Moore or Johnson is…..
The fact that the Patriots “CLAIM” Johnson didn’t know his playbook only speaks to the laziness of their coaching staff and their ability to Coach up their players….
It’s time for Coach Belicheat to retire….he is still a quality Coach and one of the best of ALL TIME but this decision to cut #85 was IGNORANT JUDGEMENT on his part…Chad kept his mouth shut, did everything that was asked of him in New England….and for whatever reason…it didn’t work out.
The kid has fun playing the game, is a hell of a talent, and just needs a young enthusiastic staff to steer him back into form….
Come on Reggie….pick up the phone and make it happen….

Hell, if I was the HC we’d be practicing getting outta the huddle QUICKLY, hustling to the line, quick counts, I’m a big 2 minute drill guy, no huddle. We’d practice every damn scenario. Fast paced. Then after a good day of work we’d practice killing the clock.

Of course all the practices would be based on the 300 schemes in the playbook of course. Defense would be up and down the field covering all kinds of plays any offense could throw at them. ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
And at times was effective. Would like to see more of it and perfected enough to put up a lot of points. All two minute drills, all the time. Damn!

Yep. Hopefully Knapp allows that.

Nah, not all the time…
But we need 3 different tempo’s to control the clock/situation.
We need to kick off to start the game and have the ball with an opportunity to score at the end of the half…..
This gives us an advantage by getting more possessions then our opponent….
Clock management is a huge AREA of needed improvement from last season….
Our ball control in the last game against the Chargers prior to halftime was the main reason we lost the game IMO…we were already in field goal range and ran a pass play to Murphy for 6 yards and the clock ran out….
There is no excuse for these types of mental errors….and we had too many last season….
When you kickoff to start your 1st pre season game in BOTH the first and second half you know you’re in for a long season…..
Hopefully we have a staff who can think on the fly..and can adjust…if we don’t…doesn’t matter who our players are…..the COACHING is what needs to improve…and by coaching I MEAN GAMEDAY DECISIONS!

All this OTA and practice doesn’t mean all that much if we don’t have men/COACHES who know FOOTBALL…and not basic knowledge…but the type of forward thinking which forces the opponent to REACT to something…
Then, we need to be able to anticipate those reactions so as to take advantage in certain area’s….

I’m still not sold on Palmer being a perfect fit for the scheme we are going to run this season….not mobile enough and he didn’t perform well last season when he turned his back to the defense….
But I’ll give Coach Knapp a little rope and see what he can do….but my instincts tell me that our passing game is going to be ineffective….
I hope to God I’m wrong…

Well with the coaches all on the same page from the get go, should help that aspect of the game day game.

For my first comments on this site: The starting wrs should be as follows: Moore-DHB-Ford(slot). If criner proves to be a starter, then he replaces DHB! Trade DHB for a position needed. DHB is not a slot receiver and has trade value. NEVER,NEVER put his name in the same sentence as Cliff Branch! Let it be a lineup of fifth rnd draft choices tht produce. Moore runs the best routes, Ford runs better with the ball in hand(slot), and Criner just may have the best hands(possesion). DHB has hands of stone and does not run good routes. He is getting better but considering where we drafted him, he is getting every chance in the world. He to has been injured. Ford can and has taken over a game because he cant be covered frm the slot one on one. He is the poor man’s DeSean Jackson/Steve Smith tht can battle for the ball then poof TD! OK ok, I gotta calm down. Im a newby, but Palmer is talking these guys up for a reason.
Huff has not performed like a 1st rounder. He must have left his hitn tackln skills in Texas! While I miss Al(RIP), the draft did suffer in judgement. Jamarcus over Calvin(Megatron?)Coach Kiffin and Coach Chuckie must have some interesting phone conversations. Im just sayn….

Palmer is the best QB we have had since Gannon/Plunkett. We gave up a 1st and second. OK, the deal breaker was the 3rd for Pryor!(thks AL)THT one better work out. Addition by subtraction- the defensive coordinator was OFFENSIVE! Who hired him?!?! Im just sayn…(Marcus Allen, Tim Brown, Warren Sapp,Rich Gannon, etc…they all had a common issue wth management…its like talkn bad aBOUT the king of pop!
