Raiders sign LB Burris, add another OL

The Raiders signed linebacker Miles Burris on Friday, one day after they locked up three other draft picks to long-term contracts.
Burris joins defensive linemen Jack Crawford and Christo Bilukidi and linebacker Nathan Stupar as drafted players who have signed contracts. Offensive lineman Tony Bergstrom and wide receiver Juron Criner remain unsigned.
In other news, the Raiders signed guard Nick Howell and waived fullback TreShawn Robinson. Howell has spent time with the 49ers, Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints, though he has yet to play in a regular-season game.

    I will debate anyone who thinks we overused the trick plays last year.
    ========================================

    I think we overused them. Early in the season no one saw them coming and they were effective. Later in the season teams were ready for them and they were not effective. Then you had the times where we did not pull them off and it killed us. The lst KC game is a case in point. We were driving on their lame defense to begin the game, they had no answer for us. On third and less than a yard at midfield Hue gets cute, we get a 5 yard penalty, now third and six, Boller makes a poor pass, and we get rolled just like that. 3rd down and two feet at midfield against a team that is reeling, you pound them. Don’t dance. We danced. We lost. Badly.

    703. Yes I agree Hue got cute there and we momentum shifted against us. Where was this “bully” we kept hearing about? On 3rd and short, we needed to lineup and sell the short yardage play and dare them to stop us. Now that’s being a bully. Getting cute is those who lack self confidence.

    RR. my prediction about schmitt being a camp player like lito shepherd last yr was because I dont think we take 2 full backs on the roster. A te can fill in for a half if reece goes down.

    a bully says “this is what I’m going to do to you” and then does it. Actually, it’s sort of what Greg Knapp is installing. predictable offense that says “here is the gameplan, try your best to stop it.”

    NHL sucks I could care less I didn’t even knnw it was on. If Dmac can stay healthy he should be in top three in rushing and with that being the case it will be a pick your poison situation for opposing defs either put 8 in the box and get beat with the passing game or get your ass ran over for 4 qtrs its gonna suck to play us this year. We are finally back nation. DA will get the D making plays. And I believe we will be the most complete team this year. If we dnt make the div round at least I consider this season a failure.

    *********

    Maybe a bit harsh. But none of these guys are competing to be NFL quality WR’s. In fairness, no one expects WR#4-6 to be projected starters. But we had Schilens and Hagan at one time in those slots. I think we are comparitively weak at those slots compared to last yr. I may be wrong, but I’ll hold my skeptism for now.

    714. You ever been to a live hockey game?

    I can tell you I’ve been to every kind of live sporting event, and hockey live is the best!

    I’m not a hockey fan, but it’s as exciting to watch and entertaining an event as there is out there. You are never bored. The music, the lights, the hockey girls, the rotations, power plays, the fights on ice.

    Great value for your entertainment dollar (live).

    But it sucks out loud on TV.

    Agreed that getting rid of Haggan was a mistake, but think a young guy will fill Chazs old spot, just by staying healthy.

  • RaiderRockstar

    @Marks Hair

    Lito Sheppard should have just been a camp body. you’re right

    Unfortunately, you can never predict injuries and CJ37 & Chekwa being hurt probably costed us a shot at the playoffs

    Lito signed off the street and rookie pencil legs 3rd rounder DVD getting significant playing time = disaster!

    didn’t we carry Tonga with Reece last year? Or was Tonga elevated during the season?

    DMAC , Jones , Goodson
    Reece , Schmidt

    We’ll keep him, Usually got 5 RB’s on the roster at any given time.

  • theghostronin79

    I hope Murphy gets back. When he’s in the zone he’s a good player for us. He’s got passion and drive, that’s for sure. When he’s distracted, he’s an average to below average player. He may NOT be PS material, but the fact is, there are so many good receivers on on THIS roster right now that, they could push him down. It will be up to him to stick. I think he’ll get every opportunity.

  • eastoaklandraider

    I believe our team is complete bcuz will have one of the most explosive O in the league and I believe scheme with the talent we still have our D will be playoff ready.

    you guys expect a healthy LMURPHY who has NFL experience to be replaced by Street, Gee, or Cal….

    Really??? Based on what?

  • RaiderRockstar

    Hue Jackson is the guy who ditched Derek Hagan, not Reggie.

    so we’re replacing Schilens & Housh in my mind

    If healthy, I don’t see Murphy & McGee as a significant downgrade …

    If both players get the axe, I sure hope we have some players in Streater & Calhoun !!

    re-sign Johnnie Lee

    I don’t think he’ll be replaced by anybody neccessarily. But I DO think he’s starting in the #5 spot as of right now. He’s already going to be battling just for a roster spot.

    @Thec

    as far as NFL production, I agree with you that Murphy is head & shoulders way better than guys like McGee, Streater & Calhoun …

    to be fair, those guys really haven’t been given [or perhaps they haven't earned] a chance to shine either

    In all reality, we know that DHB, Moore, Ford & Murphy were all “nicked” at some point last season. Can never have enough talented WR’s. If you have 5 or 6 good wideouts and 1 or 2 is injured, you’re still in pretty good shape imo
