    Raiders, Branch have one week to get deal done

    The clock is ticking loudly, and it’s likely that a deal will get done before it strikes zero.

    The window for the Raiders and safety Tyvon Branch signing a long-term deal closes as of 4:00 p.m. ET on Monday, July 16. Thereafter, they can’t do anything more than a one-year deal until after the final game of the 2012 regular season.

    Getting younger is always a good thing. Getting older is always a bad thing. The Lake Show cemented third.

    whats up, RND?

    Spurs & OKC will still own LAL imo

    Clippers are making noise this offseason.

    what do you think of teams like Memphis, Denver, Dallas & Utah? see them making the postseason again or a new team joining the party?

  • DennisAllensVisor

    Seems as if the Nets, Magic & Cavs have found a 4th team to include in trade.

    @RND

    do you think he’ll play out this season on the tag?

    a bunch of semi pros here told me that TB’s contract simply wasn’t a priority for Reggie because he had plenty of time. With a week to go, dont you think its time to get his agent on the phone and offer that 4-year $16 million contract ??

    the Raiders Run Defense will be MUCH improved this season and it has nothing to do with Rolando McClain. It has everything to do with Davis/Bresnahan out of the picture and Allen/Tarver inserted. Discipline. Players put in a position to succeed and utilize their strengths. disguises & blitzes. mixed coverages. being “multiple”. We’re not going to allow any team to physically just pound us into submission any longer.

    ********

    @RRS,

    I love your optimism. But the fact is we have a completely rebuilt secondary and a shaky LB corps. Our DL is probably a strength even though it has been a huge failure against the run. Potentially we are looking at aging bookend corners starting over with new teams and on their last legs. Coaches can scheme and plan all they want, but they need the horses to make it work. I don’t see our defense stopping that potent Carolina ground attack, considering it’s our most glaring weakness.

  • DennisAllensVisor

    This trade is not as close to being agreed to as many are making it out to be.

    Asked if he was retired, Iverson said “I’m not using that word. I wanna play basketball so bad. The way it is right now, I’ve accepted the fact [the NBA] may not happen, but I still want to play basketball. If I can get an opportunity to where it’s gonna make me happy at the end of my career, I’ll take that opportunity.”

    Oakland (prior to training camp) season predictions, anyone?

    here’s mine

    1 – Chargers WIN
    2 – Dolphins WIN
    3 – Steelers LOSS
    4 – Broncos WIN
    5 – Bye
    6 – Falcons LOSS
    7 – Jaguars WIN
    8 – Chiefs LOSS
    9 – Bucs WIN
    10 – Ravens LOSS
    11 – Saints LOSS
    12 – Bengals WIN
    13 – Browns WIN
    14 – Broncos WIN
    15 – Chiefs LOSS
    16 – Panthers WIN
    17 – Chargers WIN

    Overall record of 10-6

    ^^^^
    That’s optimisitic.

    I see Raiders splitting their divisional games at best. If they are playing the Bucs in Tampa, they will prbably lose and then I see them losing to Newton in Carolina.

    Best case scenario 9-7, worse case 7-9. Though they could very easlily wind up 6-10 as well.

    =============

    10-6 sounds about right, my prediction for the AFC West is:

    1. Raiders 10-6
    2. Queefs 9-7
    3. Dolts 8-8
    4. Donks 7-9

    Right after the trade is completed and Howard is re-signed to a long-term deal, the Nets should announce the hiring of Stan Van Gundy.

    I dont care how much talent KC acquired in the offseason, or who is getting healthy, as long as Matt Cassel is still the QB, with Brady Quinn as the backup, they have no chance. They should have stuck with Kyle Orton

    Brooklyn Nets: Could the Nets Look to Dirk Nowitzki as a New Plan B?

    The Dallas Mavericks could easily be seen as the biggest losers this offseason. They missed out on signing Deron Williams, and they lost Jason Kidd and Jason Terry in free agency.

    They could decide to enter a rebuilding phase. The one problem with that is their star player, Dirk Nowitzki, has no interest in being around during a rebuilding phase. The Mavericks may have to make a tough decision of whether to try and find new players to build around Nowitzki for the next few seasons in order to compete, or trade Nowitzki and start rebuilding.

    If the Mavericks decide the latter, the Nets could have interest in Nowitzki. That is of course, if they can’t get Dwight Howard.

    The Mavericks may have some bad blood towards the Nets because they lost out to them in the Williams sweepstakes, but if they can look past that, they may consider taking a package similar to what the Nets are offering for Howard, for Nowitzki.

    Why is this a good move for the Mavericks?

    The Nets are currently offering Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks and multiple draft picks for Howard. If that falls through, they could easily throw a few of those pieces to the Mavericks for Nowitzki.

    If Dallas deals him, they would have to start rebuilding. They could start that rebuilding process with some valuable pieces from the Nets.
