Report: Raiders sign SS Branch long-term
By Steve Corkran
Saturday, July 14th, 2012 at 9:06 am in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders and strong safety Tyvon Branch reached agreement on a four-year contract Saturday, according to a CBS Sports report.
Neither the Raiders nor Branch’s side are commenting on the situation. In recent weeks, Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie acknowledged that both sides were talking about the prospect of hammering out a multi-year contract.
Branch signed his one-year tender as the team’s franchise tag player. That guaranteed him $6.2 million for 2012. The new deal reportedly is worth as much as $26.6 million, with more than $17 million guaranteed.
A long-term contract would supersede the one-year tag deal and give the Raiders the ability to free up some salary cap room, which could come in handy if there’s a need to add players between now and the start of the regular season.
Branch, 25, has started all 48 regular-season games the past three seasons. He has spent all four of his NFL seasons with the Raiders.

CORK…. glad to see you checking pft this morning for a new story
July 14th, 2012 at 9:10 am
Cork,
Get to work and get the contract details. Don’t let Raider Rockstar beat you to it. lmao
July 14th, 2012 at 9:13 am
Great news! I’m sure Reggie didn’t break the bank on this. Frees up valuable cap space. Contrary to many others I would like the Raiders get a solid bu rb to complement the guys we already have.
Excited for the coming year!
Code Black!!!! Sirens an Flashing Lights! Oh, yeah……
July 14th, 2012 at 9:13 am
(UPDATE: 9:00 a.m.) Steve Wyche of the NFL Network reports the deal is worth $26.6 million over four years, with $17.1 million guaranteed.
July 14th, 2012 at 9:14 am
Heck I’m cool with Cedric Benson for vet min.
July 14th, 2012 at 9:14 am
The deal is worth $26.6 million, $17.1 of which is guaranteed, according to NFL.com’s Steve Wyche.
Good deal both for Branch and the Raiders.
Branch gets good money and will be a Free Agent again at age 29 with a chance to get another decent deal to finish out his career and the Raiders lock up a pretty good player entering his prime.
July 14th, 2012 at 9:17 am
Unless the deal says he can’t be tagged, the Raider’s can franchise him once more.
July 14th, 2012 at 9:31 am
wonder what this puts our cap number at.
July 14th, 2012 at 9:34 am
i bet we’re between 3 and 4 mill under … more than enough sign Benson. especially now that he’s been just sitting there, certainly making his contract numbers go down. good timing! GET IT DONE BIGMAC!
July 14th, 2012 at 9:36 am
happy to hear this. now lets pick up benson and make some depth moves.
July 14th, 2012 at 9:36 am
In my mind this makes cedric benson a raider by default. If Goodson shows up I think he is our answer to the Rock Cartwright loss on ST. Mcfadden/Benson/Jones in the backfield. pieces are coming together
July 14th, 2012 at 9:37 am
for the people who think we don’t need Benson.
would you rather have when DMC gets hurt? Benson/Jones as or Jones-Goodson? yea, i’ll take the first option, thanks. that’s what you call a speed to power one-two punch.
July 14th, 2012 at 9:37 am
12.
thank you !
July 14th, 2012 at 9:40 am
Side Note: Moving from Chico to Concord in August, BART parties in the AM on sundays…Season tickets baby!!
July 14th, 2012 at 9:48 am
Good for Branch! I’d be happy letting Benson or Grant come in and compete for a job.
July 14th, 2012 at 10:11 am
Well first off congrats to all parties.
But after the honeymoon is over, we see that the Raiders organization and The Reggie did there part and stepped up.
Now it is Tyvon’s turn to step up his game.
Any step backwards or sideways in his play, and he is overpaid and will be fodder for a salary-cap casualty in the years ahead.
I don’t believe that will happen, but I don’t come on here and wave pom-poms with every bit of news.
There is work to be done still.
July 14th, 2012 at 10:22 am
Phenomenal News! We’ve got our guy for a long time! Thanks for the update Cork! Now if we can find a solution for Martian head Manning…I’ll like my chances. Just saying.

This board unamiously loved the Seymour trade and hated the DHB pick.
Wrong on both accounts.
I will hold my thoughts on whether this is a good deal or bad deal until December of this year, and how well Branch does or doesn’t play.
July 14th, 2012 at 10:27 am
Mr. Tyvon Branch, congratulations, you’ve (and will continue to) earn every dollar; pro bowl bound.
July 14th, 2012 at 10:33 am
Tyvon is possibly the best rising young safety in the league. As you guys have heard me say for years on this board, teams need a marquee safety to compete in the playoffs year in and year out. Branch has been exceptional and IS the QB of the defense since McClain can’t seem to figure it out at times.

A lot of you guys really think we got hosed on Seymour. I think the exact opposite. If Seymour did not make the game saving tackle on Mark Sanchez in Week 3, or block not one, but two kicks in KC, right there our team would have been 6-10 last year. Tommy Kelly is a better player because of Seymour and Rich has had a big hand in Shaughnessy’s development. How much is that worth?

I haven’t posted here very long, but have always liked DHB’s work ethic and never liked Seymour. He and 55 better earn their money this season.lol

One last thing, ask anyone in New England and they think we fleeced them on Seymour. Bellichik won three Super Bowls with Rich. None without him. They kept Ty Warren instead, and he is now in Denver.
July 14th, 2012 at 10:41 am
My issue with Seymour has been stupid personal fouls, if he fixes that, I think he’ll be fine for a couple more years.
July 14th, 2012 at 10:43 am
Raiders should be damn good this year, health permitting.
Other than injury, and perhaps the Raiders tendency to get jobbed by officials, the biggest concern for me is how Knapp handles the offense. We all know Hue did a terrific job in his two years here on that side of the ball. Can Knapp keep that momentum and production going? That is the question.
Despite my objections to Hue’s firing, I do have a good feeling about Dennis Allen. I think he’ll be the best defensive-minded coach/coordinator we’ve had in many, many years. And I believe there’s enough talent to make that at least a top10-15 unit.
Can the offense put up 25-30 ppg like it did and would’ve been expected to do with this talent in Hue’s third year? With Palmer at QB, McFadden in his prime, a solid o-line, and some extraordinarily explosive players around that core — Ford, Reece, Moore, DHB, Taiwan Jones, and on and on — this should be an elite offense.
July 14th, 2012 at 10:43 am
I’m so cool
July 14th, 2012 at 10:44 am
How much is that worth?
************************
Not a stud RT who counts 1/8th towards the salary-cap as Seymour does (what we ultimately paid for him).
July 14th, 2012 at 10:46 am
Chris in NY,
25ppg I can see, but not 30ppg.
Over the last 10 years, only a handful of teams have averaged 30ppg.
Basically the Saints, Colts, Pats and Chargers.
Not sure if we are eating at THAT table yet.
July 14th, 2012 at 10:47 am
The Seymour and Palmer trades were both excellent moves by the Raiders. The media tends to overvalue draft picks and is afraid to question Belichick’s genius, that’s why those trades are generally mis-assessed. Don’t listen to them. Both were key pickups for the Raiders in terms of production and leadership of a young team.
July 14th, 2012 at 10:48 am
Seymore is a beast. He has done some dumb penalties but he also has made some plays for us. When the man is on a mission he his unstoppable. I still remember his first game with da Raiders, he terrorized Phyliss all game.

agreed. Seymour has had 2 pro bowl seasons on the Raiders. he will continue to mentor our rookie DL coming in … esp. Jack Crawford… it will show up year one!
July 14th, 2012 at 10:55 am
JFB, I hear you, but offenses are getting more and more sophisticated and scoring more. I believe there were 3 or 4 teams averaging 30+ last year. Two years ago we put up about 27ppg while shuffling Campbell and Grads at QB. Now we’ve got Palmer and a much more talented and experienced receiving corps. Having DMC for 14 of 16 was key that season, so we need him healthy to approach that mark. But if Palmer and DMC stay upright we could have the No. 1 offense in the league.
Who else has this many explosive options at their disposal, from the HBs to Reece to Ford, Moore, DHB and others to a QB like Palmer who throws one of the best, most accurate deep balls in the league?

I am glad we did the Branch signing, it could have been a distraction down the stretch of the season if he was a lame-duck defensive “captain”.
I just like to be more pragmatic with all these moves, and take a wait and see approach.
Branch could blow out his knee, never return to anything close that he was, and this contract could be a disaster.
He could help us win the Super Bowl, and be a defensive MVP, and the contract would be an epic success.
To just come in and “rah-rah” everything IMMEDIATELY is just silly to me, but knock yourselves out guys.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:00 am
betcha Ive watched 10 x more seymour than u have and thats the whole reason i was upset when we traded for him and not just one play several the dude takes plays off ask a new england fan i know cuz every game is on tv here in new england and never blacked out
July 14th, 2012 at 11:00 am
JFB, i understand your concerns.
i am not drinking the koolaid. i just know that Branch has been a mult function SS for the Raiders in the last 3 seasons.
i truly think this defense will allow him to be a traditional SS and it will play to all his strengths, as opposed to forcing him to play one style all the time.
he cant and will not fail. will he be worth 4+ mill a year? that is the burning question. as of right now, my opinion is that it’s a bargain!
and now Benson will be signed. DMC-BENSON > DMC-BUSH
July 14th, 2012 at 11:01 am
@35
Yes he was all game.
And we had that game except the refs stole Murphy’s td. Funny how the media threw a fit about that same call being made on Calvin Johnson, but on national TV, Murphy was robbed and no one said a thing.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:01 am
I also think Mike Huff is going to open peoples eyes this year. We saw a bit of it two years ago when Marshall moved him around and gave him a chance to make plays like the sack-fumble that broke the streak against SD.
While Branch is steady and does most things really well, I think Huff can be the impact playmaker on defense in a new system.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:02 am
seymour = sapp overated overhyped and took plays off and btw the pro bowl is a joke he did nothing the past two years to even get a seat as an alternate
July 14th, 2012 at 11:06 am
I would also like to see Benson signed. We know he can fill the Michael Bush role and step in as a full time starter if DMC gets nicked.
I’ll give Goodson a chance, and maybe we keep 4, but His fumbling history does worry me. Because of that, I’m not comfortable with him in goal line and short yardage spots. He’s got to get that corrected and prove it.

How could Murphy be robbed when they make the same call ALL THE TIME throughout the league?
The CJ drop, the Lee Evans play last year. Murphy has to make that catch and not give the refs anything to dissect.
Besides, that play determined a 4 point swing, and we lost by 4.

Both were key pickups for the Raiders in terms of production and leadership of a young team.
The Palmer trade was a necessary move given the situation, but Jackson got punked!
Brown saw a rookie head coach and wannabe GM who had never negotiated a deal before and popped a major woody! A first and second for a player he had written off! He bent Jackson over his desk and let him have it.
Then Hue had the nerve to call it “the deal of a lifetime”. Mike Brown is still laughing over that one!
July 14th, 2012 at 11:08 am
Seymour was downright dominated before getting hurt last year. Was averaging something like 1 sack and 5 tackles per game the first five weeks. I truly believe he was playing at well less than 100% the rest of the year.

Seymour is still productive in spurts, no questioning that.
But for all his vet leadership, he has been kicked out of as many games in two years as he has created turnovers (2 to 2).
And his vet “presence” made no impact on Rolando screwing off in the middle of the week, STan Routt taking no accountability all season, and our team to be pointing fingers and arguing ON THE FIELD like they were last year.

July 14th, 2012 at 11:15 am
Old school,
Draft picks are OVERRATED. Franchise QBs are not.
If we stuck with Boller do we even win another game last year, let alone be plaing with less than 5 minutes to go in Week 17 with a real shot at the playoffs?
Would you trade Carson Palmer for the Alabama CB who the Bengals got with our 1st and some 2nd round pick next year? Look at what Washington had to give up for the completely unproven RG3.
You want a good QB and you need to get extremely lucky or you need to sacrifice some draft picks. Palmer was worth it, IMO. Absolutely.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:15 am
What kind of veteran leader gets his azz kicked for a half and then takes the easy way out and throws a meaningless punch to get thrown out of a game?
That might have been two of the biggest chicken-crap moves I ever seen from a Raider.
A true leader, continues to fight hard, takes pride in his craft, and work on getting better with his team.
That was like Tyson’s ear bite. You know you can’t win, so you act tough, but it is all an act.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:18 am
mcskinny
no i listen just fine. they don’t need a defense at all to make it a super bowl… so that’s void.
oh play so Seymour’s play in NE won’t get him a HOF jacket? just Belecheat? dude, you need to know what you’re talking about. sorry kid.. you lose here.
did the Raider D improve with Seymour? absolutely.
is he worth the contract Al dished out? hell no.
does he get all whiney and get him ejected from games? yes.
there’s good and bad with every player in the NFL. without him, our D would get murdered more often. you can’t use this last season as a measuring tool… he didn’t have any help around him other than TK(at rushing the passer)
if you look at the 2010 team that was 2nd in sacks.. he was a TERROR week in and week out. that’s what you’ll see with Tarver’s D this year. he and TK will have a good time. plus SHO-nasty will be back.. he has a major impact on that DL.. we knew this without big Rich even saying so.
you’ll see soon enough.
argument over.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:20 am
I’m sure someone will come in and say that when he punched Big Ben was “Awesome”.
Yeah, real awesome.
You don’t think pulling immature, childish acts like that helps give us zero benefit of the doubt in future calls?
I can see it if it is a close game, and you can try to sell that the other guy did something that warranted it. But no matter what the circumstances, you punch a guy when your team is losing by 30 points, you are going to be seen as a selfish punk in the eyes of the stripes.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:21 am
PS go back and look at tape.. he still needs a double team every play.. even triple teamed a lot. he takes plays off? of course, he’s old and gets all the attention from opposing OL’s … what do you expect?
July 14th, 2012 at 11:22 am
Seymour will certainly get in the Hall, no debating that.
The 3 rings and all the All-Pro teams (waaaaaay more important than Pro Bowls in the eyes of the voters) will do it for him.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:23 am
JFB, yes that is true. he’s definitely not worth that contract we’re giving him. that was immaturity at it’s best.. from a so called “team leader” …
like i said, all players do stewpid crap … no matter how old they are. Plax shot himself in the leg, yet he had a very decent season last year on a HORRIBLE offense. i know that’s a different position on the other side of the ball, just sayin’ …
Seymour still takes on double teams like it’s nobody’s business. if our linebackers could actually benefit from this over the last few years(they couldn’t because they’ve sucked), then he would be given more credit.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:25 am
so what do you think the chances are of Begstrom, Criner, and Benson getting signed in the next week?
70/30 they will IMO
July 14th, 2012 at 11:27 am
I don’t have much of a problem with Seymour’s actual play.
He makes plays in key situations, pushes the pocket back fairly consistantly, and even blocked kicks.
It’s what we gave up for him, what we pay him, and this supposed “leadership” that I fail to see, and the stupid penalties that come with it.

July 14th, 2012 at 11:33 am
OSR,
Fair enough. But the reality is we were 4-2 with our first good shot at the postseason in about a decade. We were up against the trading deadline and there were really no other options on the roster or on the market. Hue had absolutely zero leverage. Add on top of that that Mike Brown had a personal vendetta against Carson Palmer playing anywhere ever again and I’m not sure there is another owner in the league who could’ve gotten that deal done at all.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:37 am
Again, as far as the Branch signing, you kind of HAD to do it.
If you think the kid is a defensive “Captain”, as he is and the team clearly believes he is, you can’t have him as a lame-duck captain down the stretch of the year.
What if we slip to say, a 5-6 record, and then all the questions and distractions come.
“Is this your last month as a Raider?” “How do you feel knowing this may be your last month as a Raider” “Anything special you want to say to the fans in case this is your last home game in Oakland”
Can’t have that stuff if we are trying to move forward and gel defensively.
Branch just needs to step up, just the same as The Reggie did.
That’s it. Nothing major, just go get it done.

800 is a tough mark for Reece to hit. He would have to be used radically different, almost as a full time TE to approach that. He’s been in the 400-450 range last two years.
He’s still a real valuable piece and a truly dynamic player, but 800 yards from the FB position is almost unheard of.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:49 am
I’m tired of people punking Seymour. 80% of Seymour is still an All -Pro. Sick of hearing about his decline. He played well last year. With the new schemes, watch for a Reggie White type of player. Richard still demands double teams. The end result of the trade was the “Genius Belichek” got it in the posterior.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:50 am
JFB, i truly think he will. especially if he continues to cover TE’s like he did to Gronkowski the rest of his career, we’re in good hands.
this excited me the most because of the cap relief … now signing Benson will be top priority, even over the rookies. at least it should be, i don’t want to see him get taken by the donkos or Doltz …
July 14th, 2012 at 11:51 am
Not sure why there is SO MUCH concern over Knapp, yet none about Tarver, especially as it pertains to 2012.
Knapp has been around the block and than some. He has lead a #1 ranked offense and a #1 ranked rushing attack with two different organizations. He has called plays in a playoff win when his team hung up over 35 points. He has coached IN OAKLAND before. There isn’t anything we will probably do this year (except for maybe playing in the bowl) that will be a little too bright of lights for him, especially the first month of the season.
Tarver, IMO, has a much higher ceiling then Knapp and WILL BE an NFL HC one day, but as a rookie NFL DC, you HAVE TO expect he will be a little wide-eyed at some points, especially early on. MNF opener is a tad intimidating for your first go round.
I anticipate some learning curves, on-the-job training stuff, maybe some inefficiencies in getting calls in on time or guys lined up correctly, maybe having to waste some timeouts defensively, etc.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:52 am
80.
thank you for validating my point. the man needs triple teams a lot as well! this should be freeing up our linebackers, but no.. they’ve been sub-par(that’s saying it delicately)over the last few years he’s been here, so naturally he gets blamed for “taking plays off” and “can’t stop the run” … which again, isn’t true at all.
i just don’t think he was worth that enormous contract(that he did in fact restructure), only because that’s part of what’s strapping us right now.
July 14th, 2012 at 11:56 am
JFB
yea and Knapp had who as his QB’s in his last years here? much different from Carson, don’t ya think?
yes he’s a run heavy type play caller, but with Benson signed, i don’t have a problem AT ALL with that.
the HOU offense of last year is what we’ll see with the Raiders this year. you can bank on it. i anticipate a better passing game than HOU as well, even if AJ plays all 16 games! we just have too many weapons. Knapp knows this and will exploit defenses with our speed every Sunday.
as for Tarver, we just have NO CLUE what to expect. Dennis Allen will probably be calling the defensive plays. he just needs someone to run it through. a lackey so to speak. that’s why i’m excited about our DL once again like i was in 2010. i’ll take a slightly better run and 2nd place in the league in sacks ANY DAY of the week. it will mask our possible bad CB turnout…
July 14th, 2012 at 11:58 am
our run D will not improve with this unit no matter who is coaching it, unless Wheeler and Curry really show up this year… it’ll be our DL getting to the QB early and often that will define us once again.
July 14th, 2012 at 12:02 pm
Greg Knapp was QB coach in Houston last year, not OC or play caller.
July 14th, 2012 at 12:05 pm
I think with a new scheme, coaches who instill accountability and a swarming style, and if we can somehow get vastly improved play at MLB, the defense will be fine. I’d love to see Burris step up and take McClain’s spot at MLB. Or Goethel.
July 14th, 2012 at 12:08 pm
Seymour is a great DL and a future HOFer, but:
1- He was/ is overpaid.
2- he takes a lot of plays off.
3- He is not getting any younger/ better.
July 14th, 2012 at 12:13 pm
I am not knocking AD as I idolized him. But an 80+ yr old defensive coordinator was not going to be able to compete in the new NFL. New schemes, accountability
and no more scholarships. Play hard or get your a$$ benched. Watching film on the Kodak Super 8 all night and bringing out the overhead projector is now a thing of the past. If you said IPAD to Mr. Davis, he probably checked to see if he needed to be changed.

1. They said that about Reggie White.
2. Raiders not held accountable last year. Even with plays off, All-Pro.
3. Right, he never will get younger but his skill set allows him to still dominate.

i realize that. but he will mimic that WCO offense. there’s no way he’ll be as conservative this time around with all skill positions being as explosive as they are. with JaBackFat, Huggy Bear Jr, and busted azz Jerry Porter, he was ineffective, as anyone would be calling plays with that cast.

Biekert wasn’t fast, but he was smart and had a nose for the ball. McClain is a smart player (football smart), he ran a 4.6 40 so he is not slow, but I agree that he needs to improve his play to validate the pick (top 10).
He was injured last season, we have a new staff/ scheme, so I expect him to improve. As Reggie said, he is very talented.

2008 offseason, Al Davis signed Gibril Wilson to a 6-year $39 million contract
4 years later, Reggie McKenzie gives a SS with the same skill set the same pay annually ($6.5 million)
history repeats itself. hopefully Branch isn’t a complete flop and gets axed next offseason!!

RR,
glad you’re here to drop some knowledge down my friend.
Wilson was a HUGE bust …
this contract is so much better. BigMac is truly living up to the hype with these signings. Branch could very well be a huge steal if his league rating for SS’s holds true. the prospect of him being in better position to makes plays is very intriguing. it’s hard to imagine him being a bust at this point.
July 14th, 2012 at 1:39 pm
Actually, Gibril Wilson only got $16 million guaranteed.
Tyvon gets $17.1 guaranteed , must have a good agent to sucker our rookie GM out of an extra $1.1 mil
inflation??
July 14th, 2012 at 1:42 pm
oh wow okay. well still, Wilson couldn’t cover to save his life. Branch has the ability to shut down elite TE’s in the NFL to add to his solid run support year in and year out.

July 14th, 2012 at 1:44 pm
smart money says Branch will have the benefit of coaches that’ll find his sweet spot versus the “old ways”
July 14th, 2012 at 1:46 pm
Weddle & Huff are making $8 mil per season. Griffin in TN got $7 mil per season with the deal he signed last month.
glad BigMac didn’t feel Branch’s value was up there with these cats – but Reggie must feel confident #33 will be an impact player under Allen/Tarver
I hope that is the case, but I remain unconvinced due to his coverage ability and lack of plays made up to this point. fingers crossed
July 14th, 2012 at 1:48 pm
Branch will be fine. Along with Huffy and Gio.
MM34 is the Question mark. I like his size and hitting abilities but those hits are rare.
I’m hoping this Arron Henry dude pans out. I watched his highlights on Youtube, seems like every tackle he made he went for the legs and not upper body. No big hits but pretty effective.
July 14th, 2012 at 1:48 pm
yea well, he had certain strides last year in coverage, despite being hindered … that’s what gives me hope.
BigMac knows the worth of players like him over a SS like Griffin.
i do believe the raitings for Branch throughout the league are pretty spot on.
i’m confident that another team would have paid more for his services had Michael Bush gotten the tag instead of him.

Not a super-high ceiling, and I am not sure if he has the size to bang in the paint for 30 minutes a night IMMEDIATELY, but he can shoot, is ALREADY a great passer, plays with energy and passion, etc.
I was more excited on draft night about getting him than Barnes.
July 14th, 2012 at 4:28 pm
The Raiders have never been a rebuilding type of team. AD always said, we are not rebuilding, we are reloading.
Reggie was brought up & exposed to that mentality. I’m sure his take is that while an actual rebuilding goes on, reloading will take place where it makes sense. Just call it the best of both worlds. Getting rid of overpriced unproductive talent is not rebuilding. It’s just doing your GM job and taking out the trash. Bringing in fast “football” players will certainly help this team improve. Bringing in a competent coaching staff can also do nothing but help at this point in time. Bresnahan leaving can only help our defensive effort. Brining in new more modern thinking coaches can only help make things better.
I’m looking forward to an exciting and successful 2012 season. We are going to be surprising a lot of people. When it’s all said and done, I expect a lot of crow to be served to most of the talking heads.

I know I’m going to miss Bush.
I liked that guy from the git go. He just wears down the defense.
A tough punishing runner.
Perfect complement to McFadden.
On the other hand each year Bush never seemed to show up in his best shape and got pretty tired himself by the end of a game and by the end of the season he was just phoning it in.
In that TB game, when Cable was coaching, Bush went to the sidelines and asked Cable to take him out for awhile because he was bushed (lol).
I don’t recall ever seeing a Raider back asking a coach to take him out before.
He also was not much of a blocker.
I’m still going to miss him and I wished we could have kept him as I’m pretty sure old ginger did.
A punishing back and a great complement-but no replacement-for McFadden.

I’d like to think it will be between the Raiders & Chiefs in the AFC West.

Problem with that is Peyton gets rid of the rock too fast. He negates any outside rush and feeds on the blitz for that reason. To get to Manning or Brady for that matter you must rush him straight up the gut. Just so happens we have two of the best in the business at that. Send those two guys and then occasionally McClain right behind them and havoc will be wrecked. Too bad 95% of Raider fans don’t get it.
July 14th, 2012 at 4:49 pm
I’m going to miss Bush, what a security blanket. We have no idea what Mike Goodson’s going to do, except take the word of the homers.

Oakglen, a lot of people came on here when Sebass missed that field goal in 2010 that “lost a game” and wanted to cut him.
They forgot about all the kicks that kept us going in a game and all the long azz field goals that he made.

It’s all good, I just went to see Savages at the movies..decent flick, just a bit too Hollywood for my taste. I’ve been sold on Bartell and have a gut feeling that Burris will be the defensive star at LB when given the chance. We do know the Ravens were high on him as well..

Three atempts from the one and no score is NOT what I call a punishing RB unless you were referring he was punishing the S&B. His last six games as a starter proved that he was a back-up best case. I won’t miss him. we can do much better.I believe we’ll get another RB who can start & hold up & make a 1 yard run when it counts. That RB will be used if DMac goes down & on short yardage. INO, the off pace substitute for DMac will be Taiwan Jones.

I don’t know. I remember reading on this blog that RB’s are a dime a dozen, and let Bush walk. Seems that the Raiders might be struggling a bit with that back up RB. Rumors of Benson can’t be good for Goodson’s moral. Bush had almost 1,000 yrds.
Anyways….that’s why I made a comment earlier that I wonder if the Raiders look for a big RB in next years draft.

I think it will be the Donks and us.
Forget Manning and all that, Von Miller is the best player in the division, and might go for 20 sacks this season.
July 14th, 2012 at 5:44 pm
Are defenses going to focus on stopping McFadden and play our WRs 1 on 1?
Or will McFadden get to run against 6 man fronts?
July 14th, 2012 at 5:50 pm
I think the best way to stop us is attack the backfield, try to stop Darren before he gets started and sacrifice back-end help for front-end pressure.
You aren’t trotting 6 man fronts against a vet QB like Palmer, he will dissect you at the LOS.
July 14th, 2012 at 5:52 pm
And before anyone goes crazy on my Von Miller thing, they asked PLAYERS AND OWNERS in SI what NFL player would you start your team with today.
Aaron Rodgers was first, then I think Brees and Brady; Megatron was the top non-QB.
Highest ranked defensive player?
Von Miller.

That’s the eternal chess-game.
My view is, until proven otherwise, teams will rather take Darren and the 7 step drops out of our arsenal and roll the dice on our WR’s in the shorter passing game.
Good to have options at least, for the first time in awhile.
Before teams could take out one key component of our offense and watch Soup, Bruce and Jamarcus flail around.

Atomic Dog lyrics
Send “Atomic Dog” Ringtone to your Cell
Yeah, this is a story of a famous dog
For the dog that chases it’s tail will be dizzy
These are clapping dogs, rhythmic dogs
Harmonic dogs, house dogs, street dogs
Dog of the world unite
Dancin’ dogs
Yeah
Countin’ dogs, funky dogs
Nasty dogs (Dog)
Atomic dog
Atomic dog
Like the boys
When they’re out there walkin’ the streets
May compete
Nothin’ but the dog in ya
Bow-wow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah
Bow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah
Bow-wow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah
Bow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yeah

When they’re out there walkin’ the streets
May compete
Nothin’ but the dog in ya
Why must I feel like that
Oh, why must I chase the cat

IMO, no contest. The 2012 O-line will be much stronger. Getting rid of the weak middle, Satele & Carlisle, and replacing them with Wiz 2.0 & Brisel can be nothing but an upgrade. I don’t believe Carlisle will end up starting at OLG. Either Bergstrom, Barksdale, Wang, Hurd or some other newbie will be taking that spot solidifying that O-line as one of the biggest, strongest & most efficient lines in the NFL. They will serve DMac & CP well. Top 5 offense this year.

I agree with you JB. It seems that Reggie has done as much as he possibly can to make the “O” superlative next season. I was surprised he took such action to place the biggest and best youngsters there. He has demonstrated that he wants to cement that line for years to come.
The line may just make the top 5.
July 14th, 2012 at 9:24 pm
And btw, such an “O” line will be amenable to any back the Raiders may acquire. DMAC worshippers take notice: DMAC is going down on or before game 8 for the season and will never wear a Raider’s uniform again.
DMAC is too injury prone and fragile for Reggie. More importantly the “worshippers” miss the fact DMAC has averaged only 40 yds rushing against first tier, playoff bound teams. Just because he runs right over the lowest of the low, means little in the long run. DMAC has never had a superlative game against a #1 team.
A great player has to be a play maker against the best teams, not only the worst. Plus Mcfadden can’t catch well.
Compare DMAC to Adrian Peterson or or Arian Foster. They are in a much higher category than DMAC because they have run right over the best defenses of the best teams in football.
Sorry, to throw cold water on ya, worshippers, but those are the facts. Anyway, you guys remind of JC worshippers who claim JC was the re-incarnation of Jim Plunkett.
Fiddlesticks !!!
