Heyward-Bey receives three years’ probation for DUI charge

By Steve Corkran
Monday, July 23rd, 2012 at 4:37 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Oakland Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey pleaded no contest Monday to a misdemeanor DUI charge in connection with his arrest on the Bay Bridge in April.

Heyward-Bey, 25, was pulled over at about 2 a.m. on April 7 on the lower deck of the bridge on his way back to the East Bay from a nightclub in San Francisco, his attorney Ivan Golde said.

He agreed to plead no contest in San Francisco Superior Court to the misdemeanor charge this morning in exchange for a sentence of three years’ probation, three months of DUI classes and various fines and fees.

Heyward-Bey had been pulled over after allegedly weaving and driving slightly above the speed limit in his 2012 Range Rover, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Prosecutors said a chemical test conducted at the scene found his blood-alcohol content was .13 percent, and a Breathalyzer test taken about an hour later found his BAC was still .12.

Golde had previously said there were “serious issues” with the case, but told Judge Samuel Feng today that seeking a trial on the charges would distract from with the Raiders’ upcoming season and “would be an undue hardship” on his client.

Heyward-Bey “wants to put this behind him,” Golde said.

Raiders players are scheduled to start reporting for the team’s preseason training camp this Sunday in Napa.

Heyward-Bey was Oakland’s top receiver last season, leading the Raiders with 64 receptions and 965 receiving yards, both career highs.

Today in 1966, Al Davis returned to coach our beloved RAIDERS.

  • RAIDERMAN99

    Yes, he’s inarticulate.

And yes, I don’t like thugs.

  • TxRaider210

Ice is far more articulate than most politicians, at least he understands the true meaning behind our right to bear arms.

So Ricky Brown in a Raven, huh…

AT this stage in his life, Cube has been rubbing elbows with millionaires, lawyers and big-wig executives far more than his days of rubbing elbows with gangsters.

He probably could break down the Glass-Steagall Act and the effects of stagflation on the economy better than breaking down the street game.

  • J Hill

    Repertoire ?

    Very impressive, Ronaldo.

Endorsed! Cube is no dummy and sees the direction this country is headed. At least he has the ballz to speak against it.

    99,

You really didn’t like the 1st Friday movie?

Like 55, did you make up your mind early on Ice Cube to a point where you will never see anything useful outta the guy?

We all know the final score of pre-season games doesn’t mean squat, but all the same I wouldn’t mind if we won the Dallas game.

You wanna see your team play well regardless; especially in week 3…which is the one everyone points to as the most indicative of what your team is looking like.

Remember a couple yr.s back in wk.3 of the preseason when we got absolutely shellacked by the Saints? Brees threw for like 300+ in the 1st half?

Last one I really wanted was against San Fran. After they beat us the niner fans were acting like they won the SB….very irritating.

  • hwnrdr

    Good Morning Nation!!!
A’s…who clears the bases off of a single?

  • The Big Banana

Ice Cube is smart enough to have a $100 million net worth.

  • DJ Johnny

This preseason will be fun though; with alot of Pryor hopefully to see what he’s all about and just to see this “new” team take the field and see how they comport themselves.

  • guest123

Looks like Dallas has a 4 day jump on us with their rookie only camp. Dunno why the Raiders decided to why the Raiders didn’t decide on one of those. Our rooks need all the work they can get.

I disagree. Entertainers make a lot of money, movies, music, etc…
    So Tom Cruise is smart?

    Never watched the Friday flicks.

I take it that the Friday movies represent the ‘softer’ more family oriented, more acceptable to the mainstream, Cube ?

Good for him. Rework your image. Make millions.

Still don’t like him, and honestly I know very little about him or his music with NWA.

Just know I’m not a fan of rap, thugs, gangsta culture.

Wasn’t that what Niggas With Attitude was about ?

Thought it was pretty funny that Cube called himself the ‘president of the Raider Nation’.

Didn’t Brien once threaten to kneecap the self-appointed Prez ?

    Or was that Snoop ?

    Get the rapper thugs confused.

I know it wasn’t Tupac. He was already dead.

Yup, and Jamarcus was fumbling and one-hoping passes as well.

That was the game that prompted the Greg Ellis “this is not high school” tirade.

Wish we could have played more relevant ball for Ellis, he was a good dude.

  • The Big Banana

O, true, dummies can walk right into a crapload of money. It’s the smart ones that can keep and grow their wealth.

Ice Cube saw a market and grabbed hold of it.

    ===============================================
    Remember that very well.

Can’t always take something away from a pre-season result, but that sure was an accurate indicator that the Saints had a powerhouse offense and the Raider D was going to be less than adequate.

Remind me to bet the Saints this pre-season. Figure they’re going to want to make a statement by winning when it doesn’t really count.

    Cha-ching.

  • DennisAllensVisor

That Saints game was the 3rd game, also viewed as the most telling for teams.

The thing I remember about that Saints game was how bad Murphy was.

BY FAR the worst player in that game.

  • Just Fire Baby

    Murphy did fumble I remember.

The Jamarcus Russell offense is tough on all WR’s.

Takeaways from Paul G’s segment on PFT:

    - He thinks Ryan Grant is more likely than Cedric Benson, simply because Reggie knows Grant and because Benson’s been jawing about being paid like a premium back. Reggie’s got no use for the ‘tude.

    - Or we may wait until after Week 1 to sign a veteran hammer so we’re not on the hook for the whole season’s pay.

    - He thinks Kelly may be a surprise veteran cut. DA couldn’t have too happy about talking up Kelly as a NT and Kelly then publicly saying he didn’t want to play the position.

    TBB,

Look at athletes too, they have money, but that doesn’t make them smart IMO (I like Shaq but I don’t think he is smart).
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to hire a financial advisor.

  • guest123

Also mentioned Sho as the most likely to get the franchise tag next year.

Another topic not discussed here was the new 85% rule that Tampa has already agreed to in the event of a possible blackout. Hopefully the point is moot with all the sellouts, but it’d be nice to know.

Oh….and the Dodgers could also pursue Victorino or Pence!!

Talk about nail in the coffin!

  • RAIDERMAN99

That game was one of the better offensive displays you’ll ever see.

You got the idea the Raider defense was poor, but it was just great execution by the Saints. They were ready to roll, looked like a well oiled machine. Very impressive.

Heck, even when the Bills were putting up 5 TD’s in the second half last year, you got the feeling there was an ounce of resistance on the Raider’s part.

There wasn’t any doubt the Saints could have scored at will that day.
