Raiders confirm Murphy trade

By Steve Corkran
Monday, July 23rd, 2012 at 12:25 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders just sent out a press release confirming their trade of veteran wide receiver Louis Murphy to the Carolina Panthers on Monday.
The trade is for an undisclosed conditional draft pick, meaning the compensation the Raiders receive likely will be tied in to things such as Murphy’s playing time and/or production.
This is the second time the Raiders have partnered with the Panthers for a trade. Earlier this offseason, the Raiders sent offensive lineman Bruce Campbell to the Panthers for running back Mike Goodson.
Murphy was a fourth-round pick of the Raiders in 2009. He led Raiders wide receivers in receptions and yards in 2009 and ‘10. However, he slipped to only 15 receptions for 241 yards and no touchdowns last season after suffering an injury in training camp that lingered for a long time afterward.
The Raiders kick off training camp this weekend. At that time, youngsters such as Rod Streater, Juron Criner and Duke Calhoun figure to have a better shot at earning a spot on the 53-man roster now that Murphy no longer is in the equation.
In other news, the Raiders still haven’t signed Criner and fellow draftee Tony Bergstrom. Those signings are expected to take place within the next few days.

    Bye Murph

  2. Blandafan Says:

I liked Murphy, but I guess we were think enough at WR.

  3. RaiderDuck Says:

Tafur’s guessing the pick’s a fifth-rounder. So it will basically replace the pick we’re losing for Curry.

  4. Seymour Bush Says:

Based on production and playing time we most likely will get a used kicking tee.

  5. Goldie7 Says:

Thanks for everything Murph. Great kid! Thanks for thee update….Cork! Good looking out!

  6. Blandafan Says:

The trade is for an unconditional draft pick, meaning the compensation the Raiders receive likely will be tied in to things such as Murphy’s playing time and/or production.

Wait, what? Wouldn’t that be a conditional draft pick?!?

  7. Albert Bigelow Paine Says:

I don’t think he necessarily wanted to be a “bigshot” perse. I think he got himself so warped pretending his life was some alternate version of Batman, the comic book that he seriously is deluded from reality. And because of that, this sick twisted fugr is going to mental hospital where he won’t even understand the meaning of life beyond those walls. I think he’ll actually be happier in an institution. Because he really is not sane.
    ——-
I doubt it had anything to do with Batman. The guy was just mentally damaged.

  8. Raiderbuck Says:

Good luck Murph! thank you for the Raiderness! And yes, that one Monday night game, it WAS a touchdown and you got screwed.

  9. Albert Bigelow Paine Says:

Who needs Murphy when we have the next Larry Fitzgerald on the team.

  10. Seymour Bush Says:

Criner and Streater have impressed the staff. And you know how new regimes like their own players. This way no one but themselves can take credit if the team wins.

  11. DennisAllensVisor Says:

Monte Poole – “Murphy may not be last trrade by Raiders. Couple others also must show theyre totally on board with new program.”

Good Luck Murpy, great trade Reggie!

Why is Ford a Kick returner, if JLH was too small to be a kickoff returner? Never understood this?

    +++++++++

JFORD has what 4 KOR’s for TD’s…Has got nothing to do with size but ability…

JFORD is the most dangerous KOR in the NFL even with the adjustment the league made from 30 to 35

    _________________________________________________

Sorry, not the point I was making. When we had JLH on the roster, our KOR guy was a FB! We always asked Jerry why JLH did not return kickoffs and he said he was too small! Then along comes Ford and blows that $@# out of the water.

  13. DutchRaider77 Says:

So as Raider fans are we routing for Murphy to do well b/c of the trade ramifications? Kinda funny that if Murphy scores a touchdown against us when we play Carolina, there will be a Black and Silver lining?

  14. KoolKell Says:

Holmes is gonna get worse than that, psychologically. He’ll probably be sent to a Supermax prison where he gets to spend the next 60 years lying on a one-inch foam pad on top of a concrete bed with only a black & white TV to keep him company, watching the world go on without him. He wanted to be a big important bigshot? He gets the exact opposite, rotting away in insignificance.
    ————————————
Yep. Looking at him today, it seems he’s now recognizing that grim reality.

This is a good move for Murphy, At best, he was going to be the #6 WR on the Raiders. He’ll get to play with Carolina. He looked the part of a Raider but now he can look the part of a Panther. Good luck to him in furthering his career. At least now he will have a chance to shine. He wasn’t going to see much time playing with the Raiders.

    Here’s a question for all FF players…

If you were to draft WR’s from the Raiders roster who would you draft and in what round?

    ***

    RD 1 – King Darrius
    RD 4 – DMo17
    undrafted: Ford, Criner, Streater, etc

    ========

RRS, you would draft DHB in the 1st round??

I was thinking Moore ahead of DHB in the 5th-6th round and

Criner maybe in the 3rd-4th week of the season…just to see how he does.

The thing that disgusts me the most about the James Holmes shooting is how pathetic law enforcement has been throughout this whole ordeal. They arrive at the scene and the guy surrenders they have no gun fight or resistance in detaining him. The crime has been committed and the perp detained.

What do they have left to do? It took them 19 hours to identify the dead and notify the parents or relatives of the dead victims! Can you imagine waiting that long to find out your family member is dead.

Now there are literally thousand of FBI police detectives etc buzzing around Aurora Colorado with their fingers up their fat lazy asses wasting our money.

If a corporation or a contractor handled these situations instead of government it would happen a lot faster and take less resources.

We could probably execute this guy faster if government was not involved. IMO

Tx I think this is DHB’s first offense so I’m not expecting any suspension from Goodell.

Union & Goodell may want to renegotiate Goodell’s power to punish; re: reduce in exchange for longer OTAs and training camp.

less time/opportunity/chance of getting in trouble less need for goodell to put the hammer down.

Only time will tell I guess, but Goodell may be pissed off having to deal with this spike in DUI’s and drop the hammer.

    May, 10, 2012
May 106:30PM ETBy Bill Williamson | ESPN.com Recommend85Tweet23Comments149EmailPrintIt’s clear Plaxico Burress wants to play in the NFL in 2012.

And it’s also clear that he’d play anywhere. The receiver, who will turn 35 in August, appeared on SiriusXM NFL Radio with hosts Adam Schein and Rich Gannon.

161Gannon asked Burress his thoughts on Carolina, Oakland and Miami as possible destinations. Burress said yes, yes and yes.

Here is his response: “You just ran off some good teams. I spoke with Cam [Newton] a few times this offseason when he was down here working out in South Florida. I didn’t get a chance to work out with him but I know he’s a very hard worker. Steve Smith is obviously, in my book, one of the top five receivers in all of football. He has been that kind of player for some time now. … Oakland, I’ve always thought that Carson Palmer has been one of the best deep-ball throwers in all of football since I can remember. … They do have some great talent over there in Darrius Heyward-Bey and Louis Murphy. I think those guys are only going to get better with Carson. … The Miami Dolphins. I ran into Reggie Bush a few weeks ago at the Heat-Celtics game and he was just saying, ‘Man, please, just come down here and make some plays, and we’re going to have the receiver to go up and get the ball in the red zone and things like that.’ I said, ‘Hey, man, you know, when my phone rings, hey, you never know.’”

My thoughts on Burress’ idea of playing in Oakland? Just because the Raiders were one of the team’s Gannon mentioned doesn’t mean it is a good fit.

Burress had 45 catches for the Jets last season, his first back in the league after missing two years while he was in prison.

The thought of adding Burress, in my mind, is a lot like the idea of the Raiders signing Terrell Owens. I just think the Raiders would be better off developing their young stable of receivers than adding one of these two aging players.

He showed alot of promise his first two years even with poor QB play. Here’s a question for all FF players…

If you were to draft WR’s from the Raiders roster who would you draft and in what round?
    ————————————

In a 12 team league- standard scoring, standard line-up

    D. Moore round 7
    DHB round 8
    Criner round 14

subject to change as the season draws nearer

    =========
    BTW…it’s a 10 team league

I’m not the only one that sees Moore as our #1 WR…I wonder why RRS thinks DHB will be #1?

I could also see Moore (if healthy) double his stats from last year to

I think they’d have to do pretty crappy to go 8-8.

I mean, I think the offense is gonna be way more explosive, and put up larger numbers. Even if the D stays the same (and sux), then teams will probably have to score 30 points or more to win. Not saying it WON’T happen but, I think they’ll have a winning record this year and be in the playoff conversation at least.

I think the team can only rise from here, hoping for a 10-6 year with a playoffs and a healthy DMAC. May sound like kool-aid, but we do have some ballers on the team. A decrease in penalties and sound D should help big time.

Yeah, there’s always an adjustment period for everything, but I think Wiz handled center pretty darn good when called upon. Plus we got Briesel for LG. When you see a good RB, you gotta look at the line too, and Briesel was blocking for Arian Foster. Cooper is an experienced vet who’ll be pushed by Bergstrom most likely, and Barnes by Barksdale. There’s also Wang and others to compete. This year they’re going into camp with some O-line competition where in years past, our line was a hodgepodge. Last year our Line was considered a strength, and I expect it to only improve. Just my opinion, and I gotta remind myself that I don’t really know a damn thing….Lot’s of hunches and observations.

They’ve been saying the world’s end is “just around the corner” for over 40 yrs. and people still buy into it and the excuses for why it hasn’t ended yet.

Also, wasn’t in the 1970s that they said the end was coming and a lot of people sold their houses and racked up credit card debt? Now they are not too sure…isn’t it now before all the 144,000 have ascended to heaven?

fans and reporters seem to neglect an important factor in why guys like Murphy are sent packing

Murphy was a non factor on special teams

For a backup WR that is an important factor, especially if the backup WR doesn’t fill any niche role. Murphy didn’t fill any niche role. Not a consistent red zone or possession guy; and Denarius Moore and Jacoby Ford are more consistent on vertical routes.

Murphy has a lot of physical talent, but also a long injury history dating back to college, maybe not so much mental talent.

He could be a good pickup for Carolina if healthy, or a guy who never reaches his physical potential.
