Report: Murphy traded to Panthers

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, July 23rd, 2012 at 10:49 am in Oakland Raiders.

Wide receiver Louis Murphy, the team’s most productive wide receiver in 2009 and 2010, has been traded to the Carolina Panthers, according to the Twitter account of Yahoo Sports! reporter Jason Cole.

There have been no terms announced as yet, nor have the Raiders or Panthers confirmed the deal.

Murphy, who was the keynote speaker on behalf of the Raiders Saturday at a youth sports clinic at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco, struggled last season after undergoing sports hernia surgery late in training camp.

With the ascension of Denarius Moore in 2011, the quantum leap in performance by Darrius Heyward-Bey, along with strong showings by fifth-round draft pick Juron Criner and undrafted free agent Rod Streater this offseason, Murphy’s grip on a roster spot was tenuous.

Murphy caught 75 passes for 1,130 yards in his first two season after being a fourth-round draft pick out of Florida, the most of any of the Raiders wide receivers.

The Raiders made one previous deal with Carolina this offseason, getting running back Mike Goodson in exchange for offensive lineman Bruce Campbell.

    Who does big Reg know in the Carolina front office?
    2 trades with the same team in the same year is rare.

    I liked murph, but there is no room for him on our roster.
    He can get 50 catches easily in Carolina if he stays healthy.

    He had a good attitude, best of luck to Louis Viagra.

    BTW, The only thing that sucks about this trade is I used tell everone my old Randy Moss jersey was really a Louis Murphy jersey after I ripped Moss’s name off. lol

    I dont think we have a 2nd rounder in 2013 either due to the Palmer trade.

    Very true man, and after looking at Carolina’s depth chart, I don’t see many names jump out in areas we need more depth.

  29. guest123 Says:

    Carolina’s defense sucks just as bad as ours. They just drafted a top ten rookie LB the same we drafted McCheeze once upon a time. So I don’t see us poaching them of any defensive talent.

    ======================================

    I’m guessing a 5th.

    So our projected WR starters are now Moore and Ford with DHB as the #3, Criner as the #4 and Streater at #5? I’m down with it.

  34. DennisAllensVisor Says:

    DHB
    Moore
    Ford
    Criner
    Streater
    Calhoun
    McGee

    Excellent work by Reg indeed, playing it like a true business man and getting value for nada.

  44. RaiderRockstar Says:

    perhaps we’ll get another piece of junk return man … Captain Munnerlyn ??

  45. guest123 Says:

    Panthers acquired WR Louis Murphy from the Raiders.

    The Raiders’ compensation is likely a late-round pick. The trade comes three weeks after the Contra Costa Times reported Murphy was in a “fight” for his roster spot, and greatly increases undrafted rookie Rod Streater’s chances of cracking Oakland’s 53-man roster. The move could be interpreted as a lack of faith from Carolina in Brandon LaFell and David Gettis, but the reality is Murphy is little more than a depth acquisition for one of the league’s thinner receiver corps. He’ll have an inside track on a roster spot, but will have to stay healthy, something that has proven challenging for him his first three years in the league.

    Big Murphy fan here. However, dude hasnt been the same since he broke his collarbone. He plays scared over the middle now. That mental edge is gone.

    ———–
    I was also a big Murphy fan, hope a change of scenery helps the guy out, but he clearly wasn’t fit to be a Raider any longer.

    Agreed. He needs to find “The eye of the Tiger” again. Viagra isn’t the solution. He needs Apollo Creed to slap upside the head.

    Here’s a question for all FF players…

    If you were to draft WR’s from the Raiders roster who would you draft and in what round?

    James Holmes should be forced to be Jamarcus Russell’s butler for eternity.

    you’ll notice that most of the killers these days look like they came straight from a Comic-Con convention.

    not even lowlifes. just nolifes

    It’s not about the mental state. It’s about one’s choices

    James Holmes should be waterboarded. whatever other kinds of dramatic torture they are using nowadays too

    perhaps just put him in a 12 x 12 concrete room with a bed & nothing to look at. then have prison lifers come in one at a time 30 minutes each to do whatever they want to him, short of killing him (of course).

    ===========================================

    Holmes is gonna get worse than that, psychologically. He’ll probably be sent to a Supermax prison where he gets to spend the next 60 years lying on a one-inch foam pad on top of a concrete bed with only a black & white TV to keep him company, watching the world go on without him. He wanted to be a big important bigshot? He gets the exact opposite, rotting away in insignificance.

  117. guest123 Says:

    R8eray,

    good question.

    I’m lost at FF. But I plan on getting ready by the end of the 3rd week of preseason. I don’t touch drafts or even mocks till then. I think the situation won’t be clear till then. just my 2 cents.

    This time around, the expectation is that Oakland will likely receive a draft pick. According to Henry Wofford of CSNBayArea.com, Murphy was “not happy with the Raiders [and] wanted out” of Oakland.

    RD 1 – King Darrius
    RD 4 – DMo17
    undrafted: Ford, Criner, Streater, etc

  121. aig-raiders Says:

    Criner in the late rounds. All he will do is catch TDs for us in the 2nd half.

  122. DennisAllensVisor Says:

    Conditional pick for Murph, makes sense.

    There will be a bunch of women in love with John Holmes. Guaranteed. Sick but it will happen.

    I don’t think he necessarily wanted to be a “bigshot” perse. I think he got himself so warped pretending his life was some alternate version of Batman, the comic book that he seriously is deluded from reality. And because of that, this sick twisted fugr is going to mental hospital where he won’t even understand the meaning of life beyond those walls. I think he’ll actually be happier in an institution. Because he really is not sane.

    @Duck

    so basically, his next 60 years will be much like his last 24 ??

    doesn’t sounds like the “punishment” fits the crime imo

  128. theghostronin79 Says:

    Yep, and I think we’d all rather have him handling returns than Moore, due to the injury risk that comes with that job.

    Since JLH.

    ==========

    Higgins was PR wasn’t he? Ford is KR and Dmo on PR?
    2 totally different events.

    Returning punts is kinda like playing tag. Lots of running space and everyone in the yard chasing you..

    Returning kicks is like driving the wrong way down an 8 lane Freeway…..Collisions are imminent and leathal.

    Good Luck Murpy, great trade Reggie!

    Why is Ford a Kick returner, if JLH was too small to be a kickoff returner? Never understood this?

    +++++++++

    JFORD has what 4 KOR’s for TD’s…Has got nothing to do with size but ability…

    JFORD is the most dangerous KOR in the NFL even with the adjustment the league made from 30 to 35

    _________________________________________________

    Sorry, not the point I was making. When we had JLH on the roster, our KOR guy was a FB! We always asked Jerry why JLH did not return kickoffs and he said he was too small! Then along comes Ford and blows that $@# out of the water.

    I’d be willing to bet my bottom dollar that Holmes was on anti-depressants(Prozac, Paxil etc.) This tends to be true and come out eventually after most mass murders.

    The radio station has already informed us we can’t say “what up holmes”. (i’m not kidding). It’s ok since i rarely say that. Geez.

    Also, can’t play “Shoot to Thrill”, “Janie’s got a gun”, “Saturday Night Special” or “Whiskey in the Jar”.

    Till further notice.

    In a 12 team league- standard scoring, standard line-up

    D. Moore round 7
    DHB round 8
    Criner round 14

    subject to change as the season draws nearer
