Chances of Wiz conspiracy are slim

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, July 26th, 2012 at 11:38 am in Oakland Raiders.

A report on Profootballtalk.com is intimating Steve Wisniewski’s departure from the Raiders staff may have been more of a forced resignation that a decision of personal choice.

There were no reason given for his exit just as the team was reporting to training camp, but it would be prudent to hold off on any speculation that there was friction or philosophical differences on Dennis Allen’s staff where Wisniewski is concerned.

“Personal reasons” in Wisniewski’s case probably has quite a bit to do with family and faith, two reasons I was surprised he ever became a coach in the first place.

Toward the end of his career, I sat down with Wisniewski following practice on a bench at the club facility for probably the only extended intervew we ever had. Wisniewski was notoriously tight-lipped with the media, sticking with cliches and platitudes whenever possible.

At that point, Wisniewski explained that he was “old school,” and simply didn’t believe in flashy quotes or doing anything at the expense of a team. Wisniewski said there was no memorabilia at his home giving any hint he was a professional football player, and that when he walked away from the sport, he’d be gone for good.

Wisniewski said he’d instantly lose at least 50 pounds and then move on to the next phase of his life, which included becoming a church minister and getting back to a family life that was not always made easy by the demands of a professional football player.

But there was also the pull of the sport Wisniewski loved, and he occasionally began showing up at training camp, watching the line coaches do their job. He got a job on Jim Harbaugh’s staff at Stanford as a weight training assistant and worked his way back to the Raiders.

Because of his team-first attitude, Wisniewski was a favorite of every coach he ever had in Oakland, a career which spanned Mike Shanahan, Art Shell, Mike White, Joe Bugel and Jon Gruden. He thrived in any scheme, carried out orders and was Pied Piper of sorts to the rest of the linemen who followed him dutifully on distance runs following practice.

The chances of any sort of issue with Wisniewski is contrary to pretty much everything he is about.

Pollack becomes one of eight coaches without a line assistant, and he’ll miss a guy who in the middle of practice thought nothing of dropping to the ground and doing push-ups during breaks in the action.

This is like Independent league baseball, lol.

Here’s my cable guide’s description for the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics…

The games begin with the Opening Ceremony at London’s Olympic Stadium. A celebration of the host country, the event is expected to feature an on-field British meadow; farmyard animals; a cricket match; and a performance by Paul McCartney.

Question: WTF is an on-field British meadow ?

    Farmyard animals ?

    Sounds spectacular !

  • Just Fire Baby

    O’s closer faced 7, 6 reached and 4 scored.

    LOL!!

A little late on the hook there Buck

  • DJ Johnny

When you think about it, ALL this talk, debate, preparation, speculation, consternation, and prognostication about the NFL season and it all comes down to a total of about 48 total hours of action….and alot of that 48 hrs. is actually time in between plays, halftime, commercials, runs for no gain, garbage time at the end, etc. etc.

Amazing this league can lock us in like this.

    Ok, O …

    DTs are a disaster.

Meanwhile, why did we lose to Det and SD again? Lousy run defense?

    Got it.
    $$$$$$$$$$
Allow me to correct you, DTs ate a disaster against the run, but they are great against the pass.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

    Are*

Btw, our entire defense was a disaster last season. We couldn’t stop the pass or the run. Don’t forget about the bills game too. They ran and passed with no problems.

    Nice little thought-provoker there.

Yup, we spend all year round focusing in on about 45 minutes of actual “play”

  • RAIDERMAN99

Football should be an Olympic sport.

Ronaldo McBadazz could carry the American flag and lead Team USA into the stadium.

  • TxRaider210

what sections in the Coliseum are the best bang for the buck gents?

  • RAIDERMAN99

Ah, I think I see the British meadow now.

  • TxRaider210

    758 lmao

Rolando could change out of his skinny jeans right now and go win a few gold medals this week.

  • DJ Johnny

Just to clarify that those 48 hrs. of total football time is just if you watch only one team.

If you’re like me, you’re also watching alot of college games and all the “other” NFL action as well.

Honestly it’s almost too much football all at once and it doesn’t take much to make me happy.

I remember how bad we were going into that Pitt. game, and Gradkowski kept on coming back? Then that last second TD to Schilens? Even though our record still sucked i still came away feeling i’d just experienced a glorious “Autumn Wind” type of victory.

As bad as we were, that game felt kind of special. The way Grads battled back…on the road…against Pittsburgh…Grads said “not today beyotches. Take your Terrible Towells and shove up yer azzes”.

  • Just Fire Baby

There is a lot more seasoned vets than me on here, but I went to the Jets playoff game in the section below Mt. Davis and it was awesome.

Went back with the same dude in the same seats for a day game, and baked my azz off in the sun, lol.

  • Just Fire Baby

I was in the Hilton theater in Vegas for that Bruce game.

There were tons of Steelers fans around, and after every one of their 4th quarter TD’s, I kept saying they left Bruce too much time, somewhat tongue-in-cheek but playing it up.

Kept saying it up until the final score. Pleasant guys, they were fairly amused by it all, even after they lost.

Must be nice to watch a few Super Bowl wins. You could let Bruce Gradkowski hose you at home, and still get a chuckle from the funny drunk guy sitting behind you.

  • DJ Johnny

We should really expect more from our Raiders than a few paltry wins against teams we aren’t supposed to beat.

Makes you appreciate the good times so much more though.

  • RAIDERMAN99

Man, this opening ceremony is lame.

  • Just Fire Baby

Kemp just got AT & T’d.

My problem is that every other sport outside football pales in comparison anymore.

I used to be able to get into the day to day of baseball and I still do to a degree, but…it’s football that carries so much more impoetance.

It’s not so much the game itself but the drama, fan rivalries, build up around it.

What we need is for college to play AFTER the NFL season is over. Or…maybe this new USFL will garner some of my interest.

Heck, i can actually get into some CFL action.

    Go Eskimos….or Argonauts.
    …..

I’ll watch CFL, Arena, USFL, NCAA, or High School… anything that remotely resembles football.

Just can’t really get into other sports. I like NHL,NBA, and MLB once the playoffs start, but that’s because their playoffs last almost as long as the entire NFL season.

  • Just Fire Baby

    There’s the Jordanian team.

Not as hairy looking as I envisioned.

  • Just Fire Baby

So the KENYAN flag bearer is white?

    And a swimmer?

    (I can’t…..I can’t do it)

  • DJ Johnny

    JFB,

So the Pitt. fans were in decent spirits after that game? Lol.

I was even doing jumping jacks after Chris Carr ran back that int. during that 2-14 nightmare season under Art Shell.

Always nice to beat them no matter what.

We do actually own the all time head to head against them….reg season.

I believe that was a HOME GAME, that we got like 6 turnovers, and still barely won.

Ahhhh…..the Bed and Breakfast offense days.

  • Just Fire Baby

Never understood how Loney could be 6’5, 235 pounds and hit like he is a 180 pound diabetic.

Does he even have 25 home runs the last couple of years?

  • Just Fire Baby

    LOL at Hairston

    I love our park

  • RAIDERMAN99

Thought I was getting the live version of the opening. From JFB’s comments I know realize it’s Memorex.

  • Just Fire Baby

I think the “live” opening ceremony was like 8 hours ago.

  • RAIDERMAN99

The Queen looks like a mean old bird.

  • J Hill

Couple Loney with Uribe and you should EASILY see why I say I can live with Gordon at short to get Hanley’s bat on the corner.

  • J Hill

AT’Td right back at ya, lol!

    That’s 3 runs in LA.

  • RAIDERMAN99

UK is what, 8 hours ahead of Pacific time ?

  • Just Fire Baby

    Kemp can play can’t he?

400 foot opposite field shots, chasing down flies and crashing into walls, etc.

I like this Cruz kid at SS, JFB.
