Raiders sign two more rookie free agents

By Steve Corkran
Sunday, July 29th, 2012 at 12:02 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders signed linebacker Chad Kilgore and wide receiver DeAundre Muhammad on Sunday. That brings their roster total to 89 on the eve of the first practice.
Teams are allowed to carry as many as 90 players, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Raiders add one more player today or tomorrow.
Kilgore was a two-time Division II All-America selection at Northwest Missouri State, the same college that produced Raiders defensive lineman David Tollefson.
Kilgore, 6-foot-1, 230 pounds, posted 2 1/2 sacks and 11 1/2 tackles for loss his senior season.
Muhammad, 5-10 and 180, played in 20 games in three seasons at Indiana. He recorded 26 receptions for 238 yards his senior season.
Kilgore and Muhammad are expected to be at practice Monday, when the Raiders convene on the field for the first time.

I agree that McClain has not played like a top 10 pick (not an impact player), but he is still the best LB on the roster IMO.

I am constantly amazed at the hatred towards Rolando.

Has he lived up to his top 10 billing? No, not yet. Has he acted the azz at times off the field? Yup, guilty as charged.

But this a guy who played MLB for 30 games as a 21 and 22 year old, and we are 16-14 in those thirty games.

The two games he didn’t play (Den last year, Jax the year before) we lost, gave up 38 points in each game and a bazillion rushing yards.

The team is, WITHOUT ANY DOUBT, better when he is on the field.

What I see is a veteran Agent trying to work his way around the new CBA agreement, see how far he can take this issue not only for Criner but for future clients, he’s dealing with a rookie GM and probably testing Reggie’s negotiating skills as well.

Juron Criner is caught in the middle and is probably enticed to get a few more bucks his way too, but he should give his Agent today to work it out or report on his own tomorrow, maybe not even dress for practice, just show up and prove he’s no head-case and get a new Agent and sign the contract so he’s ready to go on tuesday.
    ========================================

100% correct. Criner was being used to crack a piece of the new CBA. But the ploy failed. Hey he signed and is in on time. No harm, no foul.

    ========================================

True, but it’s not like we are 16-5 with him, and 10-20 without him. We are basically a .500 team with him, and considering his draft status he has not lived up to his billing. Does he get one more year to improve in my mind? Absolutely. The big question I have about McClain is why is he in the sub packages? He does not excel in them, in fact he is a liability in them and teams have exploited that liability (See Detroit v. Raiders 2011).

The other thing is when you are giving up 5+ yards per rush attempt and you were drafted and paid to be the guy to stem that hemorrhage, you can understand the fans frustration.

  51. TxRaider210 Says:

Kilgore looks to be a football guy, you da man Reggie!

  52. JB Says:

Kilgore tackles well. He’s a little small for NFL LB duty but he’s just about right for safety. Let me see, can tackle – check, can hit – check, full field mobility – check, ball-hawk – check. Maybe we have a new developing strong safety. That would let us move Branch to FS when Huff doesn’t get it done.

  53. TxRaider210 Says:

Don’t think Kilgore will ever play SS running a 4.69.imo

He is almost exactly the same size as one of the best MLB’s in the league, Jon Vilma. In a 4 man you want a smaller MLB. Maybe Kilgore can come in and compete.

    Tyvon Branch

    • First name is pronounced ty-VAHN.
    • Oakland is 6-0 when he has a takeaway (three
    interceptions, three fumble recoveries). The
team is 5-1 when he records a sack.
    • Led Raiders in tackles in both the 2010 and ’11
seasons, and topped the 100-tackle mark for a
    third straight year in 2011.
    • Named an alternate for the 2011 Pro Bowl.
    • Has started 48 straight games entering 2012,
having last missed a game while on injured
reserve at the end of his rookie campaign.
    • In 2011, ranked second among NFL defensive
backs with 109 tackles (80 solo).
    • In 2010, tied for NFL lead among defensive
backs with a career-high four sacks.
    • Was the first UConn player ever to return two
kickoffs for TDs in the same season.

snapping successfully for Pro Bowl specialists
    Sebastian Janikowski and Shane Lechler.
    • Has earned two trips to the Pro Bowl, in 2009
    and ’11.
    • Owns 26 career special-teams tackles.
    • In college, was atop the depth chart at long
snapper for 38 straight games at Maryland.
    • Was a first-team all-state running back in high
    school, competing in Central Pennsylvania.
