Raiders sign two more rookie free agents

By Steve Corkran
Sunday, July 29th, 2012 at 12:02 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders signed linebacker Chad Kilgore and wide receiver DeAundre Muhammad on Sunday. That brings their roster total to 89 on the eve of the first practice.
Teams are allowed to carry as many as 90 players, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Raiders add one more player today or tomorrow.
Kilgore was a two-time Division II All-America selection at Northwest Missouri State, the same college that produced Raiders defensive lineman David Tollefson.
Kilgore, 6-foot-1, 230 pounds, posted 2 1/2 sacks and 11 1/2 tackles for loss his senior season.
Muhammad, 5-10 and 180, played in 20 games in three seasons at Indiana. He recorded 26 receptions for 238 yards his senior season.
Kilgore and Muhammad are expected to be at practice Monday, when the Raiders convene on the field for the first time.

Kilgore looks to be a football guy, you da man Reggie!

  • JB

Kilgore tackles well. He’s a little small for NFL LB duty but he’s just about right for safety. Let me see, can tackle – check, can hit – check, full field mobility – check, ball-hawk – check. Maybe we have a new developing strong safety. That would let us move Branch to FS when Huff doesn’t get it done.

  • TxRaider210

Don’t think Kilgore will ever play SS running a 4.69.imo

  • JB

Probably right TxRaider. Maybe just wishful thinking.

  • TxRaider210

Now if he lost 15 lbs, man watch out!

  • JB

Would like to see how McCheese does in the 3-4 alignment. That’s his natural position, ILB. Put him in there with Curry at ILB. Wheeler at SS-OLB & maybe Gothel or Burris at WS-OLB.

  • TxRaider210

If he dropped weight and focused on running faster, who knows, he may get in the 4.5 range would isn’t too bad.

Goethel is strictly and ILB. I would like to see Curry inside too.

Any chance the last roster guy will be Peprah from GB? Get it done Reg! MM34 needs to go

He is almost exactly the same size as one of the best MLB’s in the league, Jon Vilma. In a 4 man you want a smaller MLB. Maybe Kilgore can come in and compete.

Funny reading the excitement over guys that will get cut in 6 weeks.

JFB, nice seeing you in here keeping things real.

Some knuckleheads were calling the Criner situation a huge ordeal, ready to cut the kid for having the gall to let his well-regarded agent actually work.

I don’t discount Div II guys anymore. Waaaaay too many good players come out of Div II. He has size, speed and strength. Let’s see what he does with a jump in competition level. Veldheer certainly held up OK.

  • TxRaider210

    I thought Carrier could long-snap??lol

  • 89052RAIDER

My friend coached him in HS and he was an entitled POS. In fact, he transferred to Canyon Springs HS after his 10th grade season and the coaches were glad to see him go, in spite of his huge talent. Criner is a gifted athlete with great hands, Hopefully his attitude will not prevent him from fulfilling his huge potential. There was a reason, besides his speed, that he was available to take in the 5th.

Well that’s an unfortunate bit of insight, though we could somewhat surmise this based on that ridiculous standoff as a 5th round pick. SMH

    Tx,

I like Henry, but it’s difficult to predict the 53 roster without watching pre season. Just having a little fun with it.
I don’t think Ivey will make the roster.

  • alex7

Probably a huge drop-off from Div. II players drafted in the third round (especially since he played LT), and guys that go undrafted.

Kilgore shows low functional strength on his highlights, usually diving and being dragged during his tackles.

  • chargerschoke

Whoa dude , you are seriously underestimating Chekwa, that kid is a baller! He nearly shut down Plex in the jets game, he’s been playing with injuries but now he’s had surgery and is now good to go, he’s the next Nnamdi!

Reece and TK were not Division II.

If you go div. II AND you go undrafted… not looking good.

    Alex7,

You are probably right. I’m not that familiar with backup OL, and that’s why I only listed 2 players that I think will make the roster.
