Raiders first training camp practice in 40 minutes

By Steve Corkran
Monday, July 30th, 2012 at 8:17 am in Oakland Raiders.

The dawn of a new era for the Raiders has been in full swing for the better part of six months now. The next phase begins in a little more than 30 minutes, when the 89 players on the roster assemble on the two practice fields here in Napa for the first training camp practice.
It remains to be seen whether all 89 players are able to practice at full tilt. Coach Dennis Allen said Saturday that he wasn’t sure at the time whether all his players passed their physicals.
For sure, we are told, the likes of center Stefen Wisniewski, running back Darren McFadden and wide receiver Denarius Moore will be on the field.
The first practice begins at 8:50 a.m. and is expected to run until 11 or so. From there, it’s on to a news conference with Allen and player interviews.
I will be Tweeting live from the field throughout practice and posting throughout the day.

Any chance we see Carrier work at TE, his natural position?

    IDK.

That would mean one of our real WRs arent on the field.

Makes sense in the RZ though.

Hate to say it, but I think Coach Allen needs a training bra. http://tinyurl.com/cr6fndh

He is not our 2nd best WR.

He has made some big plays, yes.

Almost all of them have been on special teams.

I like him, he has potential.

If Ford doesnt improve his route running and learn the slot, he drops to 5th on the ranking.

Does anyone else believe Ford will be return man supreme-both KO and punt-along with being a situational WR?Can’t see him getting a lot of run at WR if he is doing both returns.

IMHO, Ford 4.28 is faster but Smith 4.39 is quicker laterally. Ford is one of my fav on the team. Can’t forget his rookie season and how he bailed out our Qbs.

All that speed means nothing if you can run a route.

    Smith can run routes.

  • eastoaklandraider

I THINK FORD IS CAPABLE LEFTY AS RETURN MAN AND AS WR BUT WE’LL SEE HOW TRAINING CAMP BATTLE GOES

  • aig-raiders

They’re both 5-9 with Smith being 10lbs heavier.

THIS IS YEAR 3 FOR FORD IF HE CANT RUN GOOD ROUTES BY NOW HE NEVER WILL

  • aig-raiders

    Visor,

I’ll leave it up to the coaches to determine the routes. All I know is Ford threatens to take to the house whenever he has the rock. He already proved himself by fighting for the ball in his rookie season.

  • Marks hair

    638. Carribean? Really. Have to look that up.. still sounded exactly like kissinger though..

    —-

Its not the determination of the routes.

Its the fact that Ford hasnt shown the ability to run routes.

He’s a hail mary guy at this point.

Do you remember the last game, the pick Palmer threw?

Only reason it was a pick was because Ford didnt run the route right.

  • aig-raiders

nah these semis do remember both of those games. there was another game where they put Ford in the RB spot and he took it to the house as well. Ford +++> Future Star.
