People who criticize Matt Ryan for not winning in the playoffs are being way too kind to the guy. It’d be one thing if the Falcons’ offense could even put up a fight in the palyoffs. But Ryan just gets so outclassed in those games. The guy looks like a 10th grader out there. That team is so stacked on offense that he should be taking a hell of a lot more heat than he is. I swear, put a #2 on Chris Redman and nobody would know the difference. Hell, they might even win a playoff game.

Steve is the Man. I’m not a huge fan of the live chat (because of the stupid questions), but I think Steve does a great job with it. I’m a huge fan of his TC tweets. I think he is better than Vic and Paul G.

  30. DutchRaider77 Says:

Dominique Hamilton….I was curious after the chat, Bet Meth will like him.

    Overview
Hamilton is a solid player who has incredible size for an interior lineman and has been durable throughout his time at Mizzou. A non-athletic mover, Hamilton doesn’t have quite the strength to play nose in a 3-4 base defense, but he could fill a similar role in a 4-3 and help to clog up the interior for an NFL defense. He is slow off the ball and not much of a factor against the pass, but teams will likely feel enticed to take him in the late rounds given his production in college and size for the position.

    Strengths
Hamilton is good against the run to defeat single blocks and make a play on the ball. He has a fire in his play that is obvious when defending the run. He can defeat single blocks with ease and is good to flow toward plays away from him and continue to be a factor even when the play is not right in his gap. He tackles chest-high but is big enough to engulf smaller runners. Hamilton has developed his hand technique over the years and has shown the ability to play with good technique, albeit inconsistently.

    Weaknesses
Hamilton is a very slow mover who takes a while to labor off the ball once it’s snapped. He doesn’t play instinctively and could struggle against double teams at the next level. NFL teams will want to give just enough help from another interior lineman to seal him and he could be entirely eliminated from the play. He is a non-factor against the pass; NFL offenses will love to just slightly double him against the run and forget about him entirely on passing downs, he needs to be more of a factor and consistent player against the pass to be a three-down lineman.

  31. Seymour Bush Says:

One thing you can bank on is this team is going to be in better condition than all the prior Raider teams. That seemed to be a problem late in games and late in the season. Right there is a night and day difference between MCKenzie/Allen and those that came before.

    =========================================

A slow mover who doesn’t play the pass particularly well. In a passing league that plays very very fast that is strike one and strike two against him.

    ——————-
    agreed

  60. Raider O Says:

    Riff,

    I know this for a fact. I used to live/ work abroad in 05 & 06.
It’s a way to avoid double taxation on your income (less than $91400). The only thing I was wrong about is the amount.
“First, an individual who is a bona fide resident of a foreign country or is physically outside the United States for an extended time is entitled to an exclusion (exemption) of part or all of their earned income (i.e. personal service income, as distinguished from income from capital or investments.) That exemption is $91,400 for 2009, pro-rated.[5] (See IRS form 2555.)
Second, the United States allows a foreign tax credit by which income taxes paid to foreign countries can be offset against U.S. income tax liability attributable to foreign income. This can be a complex issue that often requires the services of a tax advisor. The foreign tax credit is not allowed for taxes paid on earned income that is excluded under the rules described in the preceding paragraph (i.e. no double dipping).” wiki

  121. Raider Riff Says:

    Raider O,

Yeah I read your post. Im still confused. The whole reason I posted my info was because you were complaining that the Olympians were being taxed even though they were earning abroad.

Now youre saying that they basically dont have to pay taxes because it’s under a certain amount.

Clear up the contradiction and we can further the debate.

For the record, I currently live overseas. And I manage pro athletes. In other words, part of my job is helping them “protect” their money.

I wouldnt know about any exemptions that you speak of as my last client made quite a bit more than that.

But the bottom line of my post was this, you pay your taxes based on where you have residency. Not where you live. Not where you work. Not where you have citizenship. You must pay based on where you get your mail so to speak.

How does that relate to your original post? You couldnt understand why the Olympians are being taxed on their medals earned abroad. I simply said that it is because they hold residency in America.

(personally I hate all income taxes and believe that we are double taxed the moment we pay sales tax but that is another topic)

As for Dubai… I have friends their but in order to get residency, I was under the impression it was rather difficult/expensive. Similar to Switzerland in that regard. Ive also heard that it is a good country to go to to hide ones savings but I dont have any firsthand experience.

    Too much bashing of Raiders.

Gannon – Best QB weve ever had, but he didnt have a rocket arm so he gets called a “noodle arm” by certain dorks

Jamarcuss – Had the rocket arm but also gets blasted. Make up your mind people. No QB succeeded in the environment he was in. That is a simple fact. We sucked before him and after. In all honesty, pretty hard to judge considering what he walked into.

CP3 – Read way too much crap about the guy last year. I feel a lot of peeps here are waiting for him to fail so they can say “I told you so!!!”

DHB – Takes way too much krap for being as hard working as he is. Not a diva. Blocks. Goes across the middle. Tough. Durable. Ridiculous to be so hard on the kid.

Ford – One games for us. We all loved him. Then Denarius showed up and it all changed. Ford produces whenever he’s in the lineup…FACT.

DMoore – Im already reading the rumblings. People say he’s is not durable. Pretty soon he’ll be on the semi-pro chopping block.

Rolando – Played in defense scheme from the 70s the last two years. Complete opposite of the system he was drafted from. But regardless we expect him to be Ray Lewis. Played hurt all last year but nobody cares.

TK – The guy played his a55 off last year. Non of the semi’s noticed.

Seymore – Played hurt all last year. Blocked FG’s to keep us in games yet people still think he needs to step up.

Huff – See what I said regarding 55.

RunDMC – All offseason all I heard around here was “trade him”. Best RB in football but some of the idiots here want to trade him. Sheesh. Even Bo Jackson got hurt. It happens. This is football.

Curry – Running around being a coach and helping the best he can. Loves being a Raider. Loves being a Raider a lot more than some here love being a Raider Fan.

Gruden – Best coach we had since Madden yet Ive read over the last few days what a great decision it was for us to trade him. Talk like that should make you trade in your Raider eye patch right then and there.

Kawakami – Wait… bash that lil prick all y’all want. I hate the guy. He hates us.

Bottom line is Im sick of all the Raider player bashing. Go read a Bronco blog or Chiefs blog. They talk less crap on our players than we do. We got the best situation going into camp since the Gruden/Gannon era and people are complaining? We should all be through the moon with excitement.

These are not the Raider fans that I remember back when I had season tickets in the black hole. Seriously, some of y’all need to figure out what side of the fence you are on. You are either with us or against us, their is no inbetween. Im not saying we all need to be myopic punks, but we can stop with the outright blasting of our own guys. Our guys are who we got, so either support ‘em or go root for another team.

    $$$$$$$$$

There is no contradiction. I said the same thing yesterday, but I got the amount wrong. I said $98500, and it’s $91400.
The idea is to avoid double taxation, so If you work/ have dual citizenship in a country with no income tax like UAE (Dubai), you have an exemption on $91400. If you ate not a dual citizen, then you have to come back to the USfor 1 month and work abroad for 11/12 months.

    ============================================

Like Steve Bartkowski, Archie Manning, Steve Grogan, John Brodie and countless others, JaMarcus Russell was talented quarterback who found himself on a bad team. The difference with him was his complete unwillingness to work for anything, to improve his situation, or to even act professional for the money he was handed. The fact that a perfectly healthy 26-year-old 2007 overall #1 pick wants to return to the NFL but hasn’t had so much as a phone call from the league in almost two years demonstrates that the semis on this board are completely correct in their assessment of his pathetic self.

McClain hits the wrong gap too many times and doesn’t play smart football. I agree that if he plays well this year (his first in a legitimate NFL defense), we can safely give him a mulligan for his first two.

DMAC is an awesome runner when healthy. WHEN HEALTHY. He’s had exactly one healthy season in four. As I said at the time, nobody on this board would want to trade him if we knew he’d play 13 or 14 games this year. But we don’t know that, and history suggests he won’t. I hope I’m wrong.

Al should never have let Gruden go, but it was two egos that simply couldn’t co-exist. Nothing we can do about that now.

Kawakami is a little unfair from time to time, but also has some good insights. John Herrera trying to goad him into a fistfight with the cameras running still ranks as the all-time Raiders low point.

Surround him with other LB’s that are more than athletes and we will see a different Rolando. There is nothing more to the issue than that.

Look, we as a franchise have been notorious for signing or drafting talented guys and then trying to get them to fit our mold rather than either build our system around them or simply draft/sign guys that fit our system. It was a asinine way to go about things. Stop defending it.

The bottom line is this. Either you are a fan of the Raiders or you are not. If you are a fan, you root for the team and its players. Far too many here have a small list of players on this team they cant wait to get rid of. It’s ridiculous.

We got rid of Randy Moss and how did that work out?

We got rid of C Woodson and how did that work out?

DeAngelo Hall has even been good in Washington. Just another example of where we tried to fit a square peg into a round hole. He’s a zone DB. Everyone knows that. Only Al would expect his coaches to get something else out of the guy.

Yet Gannon takes crap here because he called it as it was after he was shown the door. He wasnt bitter, he was being honest. Because he cared.

Argue all you want but the proof is in the pudding. 11 years of non winning seasons. Plus an equally disappointing decade in the 90s. Plenty of coaches. Plenty of talented players. One constant.

Youre either a Raider fan or you arent. The bandwagon shuts its doors soon. Get on board now or get left behind.

This rant aint directed at any one person in particular. All of y’all know who you are.

    - He was clutch. He always was good in the 4th quarter. As advertised in college. How many games did our chitty defensive scheme lose us in the 4th after he rallied? A lot.

    - He had the worst receiving core in football. And to make matters worse, all of the receivers were at least .3 seconds faster on their 40 yard dash times than the guys Jamarcus was used to throwing to in college. You guys have no idea how difficult it is to throw to a guy who runs a 4.3 or faster. Jerry Rice ran a 4.7 I believe, and QB’s never missed him, they were always on target.

    - Coaching carousel: When does this work in the NFL? Basically 3 coaches in 4 years. Yeah, that was Jamarcus’ fault.

These players make it to the NFL for a reason. They played for coaches and systems that fit their skillsets. When they come to the pros and fail, 9 times out of 10 its because they went to the wrong system or got poor development coaching or werent given enough time. There is a reason why some teams are drafting in the top 10 every year, its because they are a dysfunctional mess and a revolving door for coaches. We were one of those teams. You cannot fault players for that. You can only praise the guys who somehow managed to persevere in that environment.

Sorry it takes so long to reply. I get burned out on all the hate here and have to walk away from the site sometimes.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

This is a damn good post! I’ve been guilty of being overy critical of players on the team myself, especially Palmer. My deal with him is that he’s been given a free pass for quitting on the Bengals. From what I can see, that organization has been 10 times better than the Raiders the last 10 years. He was paid well and was surrounded with great offensive talent, so I don’t get what his problem was. You see guys like Vince Young get labeled as a quitter because he walked out of the locker room during a very heated exchange with Jeff Fisher, a coach that never wanted him in the 1st place. But there isn’t a peep about Palmer. In my mind, he doesn’t deserve a free pass for “coming off the couch” to play for us because he willingly put himself there in the 1st place. His desire to play the game has to be questioned. And his performance last year is par for the course the last couple of years. He’s a #1 overall talent, so with the help of McFadden and Knapp he should be able to turn it around. It’s just very annoying to hear clowns on this board put him on a pedestal while at the same time figuring out new ways to denigrate Jason Campbell who played damn well for us and won a lot of football games during his time here.

After the Los Angeles riots, one article in a newsletter claimed, “Order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks.”

One referred to Martin Luther King Jr. as “the world-class philanderer who beat up his paramours” and who “seduced underage girls and boys.”

Another referred to Barbara Jordan, a civil rights activist and congresswoman as “Barbara Morondon,” the “archetypical half-educated victimologist.”

Well Seymour Bush, he’s been pushing that bill to audit the FED. That is a start.

But if you ask the average citizen what that bill really means and just how significant it really is, they dont have a clue. And that is the root of the issue.

Ron Paul is one man. He cant do it all. And if he were too, he’d be killed off in a heartbeat. Remember JFK? He and his backers had dreams of shutting down the FED mafia. Bam. He’s a goner. And then went his brother who was on the same quest.

If we want results, we gotta stop with the hero worship and roll up our sleeves and do it as a group.

Problem with that is, no matter how bad we have it (and its much worse than it should be), the masses are always under the belief that America is so much better than the rest of the world. So as long as a individual isnt on the bottom of the heap, he’s just happy he has it better than someone else.

That is the way they have it set up now. Its not the feudal age anymore where it was elite and then poor. Its a pyramid. Much easier to control. No matter how upset one tier of that pyramid is, no matter how bad they may have it, if they want to force change, they have to battle not just the elite, but every person of every tier above them. It’s a clever system.

The occupy people have it right… almost. But again, you cant beg with gangsters. You gotta fight fire with fire with these crooks.

But until we all realize that their is no left or right, no red or blue, just us vs them, we aint gonna go anywhere. So stock up on lube, were all gonna need it.

  225. KoolKell Says:

LOW-INFORMATION VOTERS…. Most of the coverage I’ve seen today of “Tea Party” events have been a little scary, not because organized conservative activists have laid the framework for an effective and coherent movement, but because a lot of these folks are mad as a hatter.

Consider this CNN segment about a Tea Baggers’ event in Chicago, where CNN’s Susan Roesgen asked some protestors for their thoughts. The first gentleman (I use the word loosely) carried a picture of President 0bama as Hitler. He kept telling Roesgen that the president is a “fascist.” When asked what leads him to believe this, the man said, “Because he is.” The protestor went on to explain why term limits are so important. Wow.

Realizing that she probably wasn’t going to get anything coherent from this guy, Roesgen then spoke to another man, who proceeded to ramble on about why 0bama should be more like Abraham Lincoln, who didn’t try to take taxpayers’ money.

Perhaps now would be a good time to note that Tea Baggers should probably stop looking to Lincoln as a role model. Not only did Lincoln vastly expand the power of the federal government — up to and including suspending habeas — he also was the first president to impose an income tax. Worse, it was a progressive income tax, that charged wealthier taxpayers more.

Obviously, it’s not fair to suggest all of the far-right activists attending Tea Parties were as confused as the strange folks CNN talked to in Chicago, but the “movement” has a long way to go if these guys were in any way representative of the whole.

Complete bullsht! This “didn’t try” has gotten very old. Says who? Unsubstanciated internet rumors about blank dvds?? Newsflash: It never happened! Teams make QBs. Organizations that do it the right way end up with damn good QBs. The Giants, Colts and Packers are all great examples. Alex Smith was doomed till Harbaugh showed up. Sam Bradford was getting screwed by all the coaching chages and lack of weapons around him, but now it looks like there’s stability there for him so he should be fine. A damn good supporting cast was waiting for Cam Newton and Andy Dalton and look how things are turning out for them. The truth is, we’ll never really know how good JR could have been here because our organization fcked it up!

  230. Raider Riff Says:

    I agree DJ Johnny.

He wasnt “that guy”. Im not faulting anyone for that. I never really brought up JC in my original rant. Debo did in his explanation for why he got into the bashing. I commend him for being honest.

But JC did get caught up in the whole Gradkowski love affair as the Grad fans really took it to the JC fans.

After Grads was shown the door, the JC fans in turn began to hate on CP3.

Funny thing is now that Grads is gone, all that hate has been spun onto Leinart. And if you asked most sensible fans, they probably wish we never got rid of Grads and he was here instead of Leinart. Heck, with Grads we never would have had Boller playing last year and we probably make the playoffs as Grads could have held onto things until CP3 was really ready.

See how hindsight does wonders? But I digress. The point is the vicious cycle needs to stop. We are more dysfunctional here than Al was with his coaching staff and it really drags things down.

It’s got me very close to starting a Raider blog of my own. Limiting membership to people who just want to talk real football. I’d make a section for offtopic/politics and whatnot. And I’d pluck talented semi pros from here to join us. And any and all news I’d just repost there since that is all Cork does here 95% of the time anyways.

I wanna talk football with intelligent REAL fans that can debate things like adults. And by my count, there’s less than 20 here but it would be nice to not have to sift thru all the crap just to read the quality posts.

Tom Brady led the Pats to SB championships as a game manager, not as the record-breaking superstar he’s been the last few years. Possessing the ball and limiting turnovers will take you a long way in the NFL and JC did a hell of a job at both. Not to mention the fact that he came up big late in a lot of games. Funny thing is that our chances this year will depend a lot on Greg Knapp’s ability to get Palmer to do his best JC impersonation. I’ll always wonder what would have happned if he hadn’t gotten hurt last year.

Anyone that’s still making excuses for, or trying to blame JaMoron’s complete failure on the Raiders, or the circumstances he played under – simply doesn’t have a clue.

The proof is obvious. He’s unemployed at an age when he should be in his prime. Not even a sniff from a single NFL team, in an era when GMs are falling over themselves trying to find a decent QB or backup.

The JaMoron supporters and excuse makers just can’t get this simple reality through their thick skulls.

They’re might be as dumb as JaMoron.

As for critiquing Gannon for his noodle arm – it’s an accurate criticism. An all-world field general that could have been an all-time great, but was limited by his lack of arm strength.

    Just the facts.

The idea that Raider fans should be above pointing out player deficiencies and discussing them here is absurd.

Even if I consider the criticism unfounded and the harsh analysis of a Raider player incorrect, I don’t tell other Raider fans to quit posting or to go root for the Mules.

I think Grads could have come in and and done better than Palmer did initially. I would have given Palmer a easier transition into the starting role. And I dont think it would have prevented Hue from bringing in Palmer. At least I hope it wouldnt have.

Grads couldnt stay healthy long enough to take us deep into the playoffs Im afraid. I loved the guy but with Palmer we have a elite level QB.

We’ve only had a few “real QBs” in our franchises history. Palmer is one of them.

    Lamonica
    Stabler
    Plunkett
Marinovich (too bad he was already knee deep in sabotaging his career by the time we drafted him)
    Hostetler
George (the guy may have been a colosal d!ck, but he could play, no denying that)
    Gannon
    CP3

I got high hopes for CP3 just like you. And if TP continues to work his butt off, I’ll be adding him to that list one day.

He was making fun fun of the Clintons’ daughter. I said to myself, thats messed up for a man to talk about a child like that. Then I saw a picture of him and that explained that. He looks like humpty dumpty strung out on speed, and someone who eats an awful amount of pastries when he’s not on speed. I know it doesn’t add up, but thats the impression I got of him. I also noticed he had a tremendous amount of diareha dripping out of his mouth, but it did not seem to bother him as he just kept licking his lip. T

If having a high football acumen like you puts me in that camp, I’ll sit with all the dunces then.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Zach Miller, 2010: “It’s so wonderful to finally have a starting quarterback [Jason Campbell] who knows the entire playbook FOR A CHANGE.”

What about that “bidding war” you said was going to develop over his “services?” Instead, he’s just sitting at home, eating cheeseburgers and talking to his loser buddies at that barbershop in the SI article.

The fact is that Russell didn’t want to improve, didn’t want to get better, and had no interest in trying. I remember Jerry Mac reporting that when Gradkowski got hurt in that one game and Russell was sent back in, his teammates perceptibly SLUMPED. Why? Because they knew that for all of Gradkowski’s numerous faults, he’d at least try to win the game. ============================================

Randy Moss, for all his talent, is a miserable human being who played like garbage during his time here. The reason we only got a fourth-round pick for him is because no team other than New England would even give up that much. There was serious speculation about whether Moss would be a pre-season cut by the Pats that year.

Snapshot of Randy Moss’ Raiders tenure: Opening game, 2006 against San Diego. Aaron Brooks throws a deep incompletion to (I think) Ronald Curry. The camera pans over to an uncovered Moss, jumping up and down and waving his hands. Everybody thinks Brooks screwed the pooch until the replay hits. The replay shows Moss being covered like a blanket until the pass is thrown. Moss’ DB breaks for the ball on the other side of the field. Moss then proceeds to stop in his tracks and start jumping up and down and waving his hands. In other words, he wasn’t open, but just wanted to make his QB look bad.

Rob, I dont want to get into a major debate of Jamarcus. You guys are missing my point.

Try and see the forrest from the trees on this one.

But I’ll take the Jamarcuss bait one more time.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Wow! I hope some of you clowns are taking notes. Been preaching this for years on this board. It’s really very simple.

Riff: JaMarcus was in a bad situation. So what? Go look at some of the crap teams Bartkowski and Archie Manning and Sonny Jurgensen and so forth played on. Yet they found a way to be good quarterbacks. JaMarcus didn’t even try.

I don’t believe AD had much time for him or Chucky but as long as the wins kept coming…..AD booted him out of the stadium.

  382. DJ Johnny Says:

Got into a conversation on “storied franchises” with a GB fan. By everyones account GB is a “storied franchise” but they’ve had their dark times just like us.

From ‘67 to ‘94 the Pack made the playoffs TWO (2)times and were playing half their home games away from hallowed Lambeau; splitting time with Milwaukee’s County Stadium.

That’s 27 yrs. with just TWO (2) playoff appearences.
Quite a “dark” age for GB.

Conversely, the Raiders during that same time period made the playoffs (17) times and of course won 3 SB’s.

Since 93…GB’s resurgence…14 playoff appearences compared to the Raiders 3.

My little argument was that OUR dark age wasn’t as bad as theirs, but this is a “what have u done for me lately” world we live in so it is what it is.

NOW is a good time to break out of our “dark age”.

Rob, I dont want to get into a major debate of Jamarcus. You guys are missing my point.

    ****************

very well said duck. it’s so simple. jamarcus had big talent. but he was lazy, slept in meetings, had a drug habit, and didn’t care to excel at all. and it’s the coaches, al davis, and wr’s that are too fast? no one wanted him when he was released. john lucas bailed on him for being a loser. he’s considered possibly the biggest bust in nfl history by tons of people who know. hanging on to thinking he woulda been good if this, if that, is just ridiculous. the guy was the definition of suck.

  400. rob_raider Says:

well, that’s the thing. the guys who talk about the plays he did make are missing the point. we know he was capable of making good plays. that’s why al davis drafted him. if u watched his game against notre dame he was fantastic. but once he got paid, it was all about the bling and the partying and football didn’t mean anything to him. he truly was a codeine addict. it ruined his professional life and he blamed everyone else. just like every addict dirtbag that ever lived.

Yeah, right. Just like I suspect there are a bunch of racist rednecks on this board who can’t wait to call him a failure because he was “lazy, stupid, fat and had no character”, while ignoring the fact that he played for the most dysfunctional franchise the league has seen during the past decade and was surrounded by the worst coaches and supporting cast in league history. At the end of the day, it can’t be denied that there isn’t one player during the last 10 years that enjoyed success in Oakland. 430. guest123 Says:

I wouldn’t call it an “east coast bias” as some have said, but more of a general malaise and ambivalence towards the Silver and Black. They have nothing invested in them emotionally, so they can throw out mock praise for ratings sake and also to attempt to sound even handed.

But they could give 2 sh!ts if the Raiders return to prominence. They are much more emotionally invested in the QB battle out in New York.

They are much more emotionally invested in the QB battle out in New York.

    *******************************

    That’s because the country is.

Read in SI, that last year 3 of Tebow’s games were in the top 10 of most viewed regular season games in the last 12 years. Basically the top 10 was Brady-Manning games, opening MNF games, and Tebow. That was the list.

    The dude moves the needle.

  433. Just Fire Baby Says:

But they could give 2 sh!ts if the Raiders return to prominence.

    *************************

    I disagree.

We still get a MNF opener damn near every year. Plenty of GOOD teams haven’t had a MNF opener in 10 years.

The Lions went almost 8 years without a primetime game. We had almost 15 over that time.

  434. guest123 Says:

No doubt Tebow draws the interest of the country at large. We need to understand that and not be so quick to point to conspiracies or bias. That presumes a level of interest (from them) that we ourselves match, which isn’t the case. The Nation# needs to not take itself SO seriously. There are other factors at play.

  435. Just Fire Baby Says:

I do think the national media “Cuts corners” (if I can steal coach’s line there) sometimes when it comes to us.

Comes with the territory of not being in the playoffs for 10 years.

They do the same for Pirates and Royals in baseball, and plenty of NBA teams.

  436. guest123 Says:

We still get a MNF opener damn near every year. Plenty of GOOD teams haven’t had a MNF opener in 10 years.

    ***********

Well they at least give the Raiders credit for being an lightning rod in the opinion of the average fan. That creates interest in itself. Love them or hate them, worship them or villanize them, the Raiders aren’t ever a boring team, (even when they actually are). There’s enough animosity there to kindle interest over a broad spectrum of fans. Detroit, Cleveland, Jacksonville people just click the remote off. But the Raiders is another story…

  437. Just Fire Baby Says:

I was looking at the Thursday night schedule of games this year.

Love the fact that we have a game every week on Thursday, and while the schedule picks up later in the year, the first 7 or 8 games are massive snoozers.

Jax-Indy (I guess for Luck but still), Minny-Tampa, the Titans TWICE I believe, Sea-STL.

    Snooooooooooozers

  438. guest123 Says:

Sure the media “cuts corners” and sometimes rehashes old storylines from different regimes and outdated storylines. They can only be experts on so many teams. And the Raiders haven’t been a storyline in the playoffs for years, so it kind of reduces their angles to: Post Al Davis era, New coaching staff, Stud oft-injured RB, old vet upstart QB. But they aren’t going to be researched like the playoff caliber teams. Until we can prove ourselves to be playoff caliber team, we are also-rans in their eyes, and the conversation gets stale quickly.

I am not liking the Thursday Night Games much. It will be tempting not to tune in. I’ve got way too many other things going on to put that much of my week into watching pro football. I’m going to end up missing a big chunk of the season, and feeling like I “sacrificed”. I’d be happy knowing I didn’t miss anything. Sorry if that sounds like a whine.

I like being in the Mountain time zone for football games.

Those 10am games are still in the morning, but 11am gives a little extra time to get stuff done in the morning still. The Thursday night game is an hour later, to settle down from work and ends a little later so I can appease the wifey with the remote for a minute and still tune in for the 4th quarter.

That opener is a beyotch though. 8:30 pm start, ends near midnight, I couldn’t imagine being on the east coast for that.

  443. guest123 Says:

    Dirt-Lot,

No doubt there are a ton of interesting storylines with old rivalries in the AFC West, and AFC Championship games against the Steelers. The snow job game in New England, and on and on.

But the networks are catering to a viewing audience that today probably only remember the last 10 superbowls. That’s the target demographic. If it seems like an east coast bias, it’s because the east coast has been pretty successful over the last decade.

The Raider haven’t made any hay in the rankings or had any memorable moments in a very long time. And the younger audience pays no mind to the distant past.

  444. guest123 Says:

Yeah, second that for tired and need dough. I had to disappear for a bit and EARN some of that dough. Friday’s I’m good for nothing, just struggling to make it to the end of the day. But, got some practice to check up on in a few hours and getting stoked for Dallas.

Nope, I wish I was coming to the celebration. My travel plans got pushed over to the week of the 20th of August and I’ve been told to be flexible on that. It sucks that I won’t be able to go. I was really looking forward to that. :(

I see NFL Network is gonna be at Raiders camp today with that guy Scott Hanson.

Hanson is a guy who rarely says anything bad about a team. He was at Panther camp saying they are legit SB contender. When he interviewed Dennis Allen he asked how he felt about taking over “this storied franchise”.

I’ve never heard him say anything bad or negative about any team or player..it’s kind of his “schtick” I guess.

You need to have some of that to balance out all the jerks on there.

  473. RaiderRockstar Says:

    @Tx

Saints & Falcons will own that division this year.

plus the Bucs got better. Cam Newton will throw for a bunch of yards again and a bunch of INT’s too

I take a ton of heat for this, but I still think Newt is a black version of Jeff George

much rather have Terrelle Pryor to groom for the future on the peanuts payscale. Who are Cam’s mentors?

Derek Anderson & Chris Weinke, lol

glad TP has a few years to learn under Palmer’s wing

  475. TxRaider210 Says:

Yessir, Falcons should win the division imo, with Saints close 2nd, Panther’s a couple games off them. A QB can have all the talent in the world, but if they’re not exceptionally smart, they will never win a ring imo.

  476. TxRaider210 Says:

Barron & David to help fix that pathetic defense.

they are on the uphill swing. Certainly wont be 4-12 again!

Exactly. With the ridiculous shortage of competent quarterbacks in this league, a 26-year-old former #1 overall pick can’t even get a tryout. Why? Because he’s a lazy morale-destroying slug and everyone knows it.

Schiano’s new “culture” of “toes on the line” is going to wear some the wrong way. They already lost D’Quan Bowers and traded away 2nd round pick Bryan Price for a bag of crackerjacks. Their stud LT is out for a month, and WR Benn is out too. Also, their horrible defense has exactly one free agent upgrade, overpriced oft troubled CB Eric Wright. Believe me when I tell you that the Bucs D-line is paper thin and weak, and the entire defense, LB’s, safeties, corners are going to be exposed. This is basically the same team that had 40 point on average scored against them in the final 10 weeks of 2011.

Not trying to defend either Rah or Hue, but how is it that the year prior when Rah got a low budget team to 10-6, that loose style worked? How is it that the new Tampa regime, much like the new Raider regime, is getting rid of rap music at practices. Some are calling it a new “culture”, but that’s PC for “out with the black guy and in with whitey”. Black HC’s are loose and friendly with the troops and Boss whitey don’t take no crap. Isn’t that how it all seems when you cut through the PC crap?

With Tomlin, a lot of people look at him and point to his DC as a force of personality on that team. In a lot of ways Tomlin and Rah are alike. They are good friends and hang out. I don’t see a lot of differences other than Rah’s immature “hanging out with the boys”. I think he’ll learn from that in Washington.

And how can I explain Norv to you? How he has a job in the NFL as anything other than a coordinator is beyond me. Amazing he’s lasted this long. I’m for one grateful and kiss AJ Smith’s feet for keeping the Norv around. Perfect “white” example of a loose coach.

Not saying that, but just that Rah gets unfairly bashed for being “loose and friendly”. His story was similiar to Tomlin as young bright black HC’s who expected professionalism and attention to detail. Rah had the right core of players who were steady influences in 2010, and lost those guys in 2011. Plus the team was decimated with injury. They never recovered. What was left on the field was a collection of clowns with no heart. Rah got punished for it, as is the usual case for a team that mails it in.

The point I’m making isn’t about comparison of HC’s so much as to say that “loose and friendly” can get you to a 10-6 season just as well as hardass coaches.

    533. New offense, defense, head coach, gm, owner.. Its a rebuild.

    ===========================================

But given our talent level on offense, it’s a rebuild that could produce fast (as in playoffs this season and elite status within 2-3 years) results.

  547. guest123 Says:

Sure Tony Dungy was a general. There are always some outliers to the common perception that black HC’s are “friendly and loose” or “players coaches”. Look at Herman Edwards for example.

  548. RaiderRockstar Says:

Mike Singletary? what was his issue? Too frendly???

  549. TxRaider210 Says:

No, a rookie DMAC and rookie TP at QB would be a rebuild.

  550. Just Fire Baby Says:

I think Dungy gets miscast as not being tough, because he is such a great dude.

He is old school and strict, just he was so well respected he got along well with players because they all mostly listened and didn’t give any gruff back to him.

The point I’m making isn’t about comparison of HC’s so much as to say that “loose and friendly” can get you to a 10-6 season just as well as hardass coaches.
    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I disagree. Look at Coughlin, Billisacheat, and Harbaugh, players need discipline.

  554. RaiderRockstar Says:

    Agreed, Tx.

Could have just dropped Palmer and traded McFadden.

Kicked Seymour & Kelly to the curb with thier bloated contracts. Huff too. forget paying top dollar to re-sign Branch.

  555. guest123 Says:

Dungy is a great dude, no doubt. He does so many things for the community, it’s like he’s a saint. Locally here in Tampa, he helped establish the “all pro dads” organization which helps dads and gradeschoolers connect and discuss leadership goals.

Awesome organization and I am part of two chapters in “all pro dads”.

I remember Lovie Smith said the one thing he would do as Bears coach is “beat the GB Packers”. He knew if he focused on that and game-planned for how to do that, they would be successful. It worked…at first they DID beat GB and Bears made it to SB.

When we were in the midst of that 13 game horrendous losing streak to SD all i wanted was for us to beat THEM. I wanted all the focus and game planning designed to accomplish that one thing cuz I figured if we could finally do that then beating other teams would arise as a natural consequence.

I don’t think Cable focused on SD

PM was never a mobile QB, and it’ll be interesting to see how much more stiff he looks in the pocket after 4 neck surgeries. Denver’s starting center is weak. The Bronco’s were the top rushing team in the league last year, and with Tebow at QB, they were waay ahead of any other team.

That’s what kept them in games, and helped their WR’s get single coverage all game (because teams stacked the box with 8 or 9 guys).

Will be completely different this year for the Donks, and I expect them to have some rough patches early on, much like our defense.

Ok.. Lets put aside the freak injury.. They got better.. Kc got better & healthy.. We have some tuff competition this year..

  608. CJ Legend 34 Says:

I don’t think Hue Jackson was a bad coach. Overall I think the team respected him. And I respect through all the conflict of last year he never just gave up. Most of the games with the exception of the KC loss was entertaining to watch. He had a boat load of injuries but he never made up excuses for them. Did he come across cocky sometime, yes! But there a number of coaches in the NFL who come across cocky.

Palmer, was not one of my favorite QBs but when JC went down it was not a bad trade. Plus, for Palmer to just walk on the field from home not that bad. ITs and all I expect him to be better this year.

Any coach with a one and done season taking direction from Al Davis until he died RIP is going to be on a hard road (RIP). It is another day now but I really do believe that HUe with a healthy team would have got us to the playoffs. He lost his starting QB and RB for the season. Two mismatch weapons like RBs Jones and Reece. Starting WR Ford and D Moore, Chaz never 100%, Murphy never 100%. He had a different offense week to week.

Now the defense Checkwa, Mike Mitchell, DVD, Shaug-n-nasty, and Seymour, just taking up space out there. So why does he never get credit for that? Most coaches would have called it a year back when JC went down. Oh and how could I forget the dual Head Coach Al Davis’s death after he helped pick the staff and keep the scholarship players.

    Tx,

    No regular Burris Jersey?
Have a great weekend bro, and don’t forget about TC on NFLN.

    Last time I checked, they didn’t have a #56.
    Only #3, 20, 17, 92, and 55….Maybe 93.

Burris would have to be custom.
