I think he is waiting for better players after roster cuts.

So he’s waiting to use it on guys who aren’t good enough to play for other teams?

I don’t have any particular guys in mind but 6 mill. would bring in a pretty good player. 6 mill. is still a big contract for a real good player.

I’m not a gm so i don’t everyone who’s out there, but there has to be somebody…Denver keeps finding them and noone can tell me WE didn’t need some lb help of the caliber of a Brookings.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

I don’t think we are that bad. We have talent there too. Seymour, TK, Bryant, Shaughnessy, Branch, and an Improved Huff & McClain (prediction).

  • Thec

    Mask = Lb depth
    Smoke = Pass rushing DE
    Mirror = NT

    $$$$$$$$$$

Some good/ solid Vets will get cut to make room for younger and cheaper talent that plays at the same level. Why pay a guy $4-6 million when you can get the same level of production from your 4th round pick for a lot less (especially if you need cap space to sign other players)?

  • DJ Johnny

Deliberate is fine but don’t u have to spend that money..somewhere?

I don’t expect him to rashly throw it all away, but even that would be preferable to just sitting on it.

I say this cuz we’ve heard all offseason how restricted Reggie is cuz of the cap…Heck, even HE said it himself.

If “deliberate” means he’s waiting to make a nice strike with it than that makes more sense.

  • DJ Johnny

Good points O. I just think a guy like Brookings could’ve been a nice asset for us instead of Denver.

Denver isn’t dumb. They obviously see the value of a vet like that.

We are not set in my opinion.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

Cap space allows to trade for players, but I don’t think that will happen. Reggie likes his picks.

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

I think they need a guy to sub for DJ Willams (suspended) for 6 games, and that’s why they signed him.

  • DJ Johnny

Not after all we’ve been hearing about how we are in such a bad spot cap wise…poor Raiders have no money to spend on any players. Now we do have some….so… what next?

    Am I missing something?

All this talk of cap hell we were in and how it’s prohibited Reggie from doing much of anything and yet he sits with over 6 mill. (for this yr.) that he CAN use and does nothing with it.

Meanwhile, Denver just keeps adding on and now pick up Brookings.

You can’t save it for next yr. and 6 mill. is a hefty 1st yr. sum to pay someone to help this team.

    ==========================================

Methinks Reggie was waiting to see what positions needed help, and is now waiting for cutdowns.

For instance, the emergence of Lonyae Miller means we doesn’t have to go after Cedric Benson or Ryan Grant, but the crappiness of Spencer means we might be on the lookout for another veteran CB. And Travis Ivey’s gastronomical exploits mean we might be looking NT as well.

  • DJ Johnny

    O. I believe you’re right. I can’t believe Reggie can’t see a need somewhere on this roster.

    Spend that $$$ somewhere.

  • DJ Johnny

Duck, and the recurring injuries of D.Moore means he might need to think about a good receiver. Maybe a tall one with SB experience?

  • http://www.Raiders.com KoolKell

Reggie is not throwing money around for no good reason, or media splash. New Regime. The man is thoughtful and deliberate.

Intrepid you are on the right track. I’ve tried several different conversion formats with no luck. I have ruled out all the ones that don’t work. I need to find what wordpress/ibabuzz will accept beyond ASCII. Not easy but I’ve narrowed it down.

    Zach Hurd ?

We could be in serious trouble if V has to miss time.

  • DJ Johnny

Duck, You know who im talking about…Y not.

I get the thoughtful team building stuff but nobody will ever convince me that passing up on good players that can help your team win and waiting to pick up guys on the scrap heap is somehow better than acquiring established, proven players.

That just doesn’t make logical sense.

It is not wrong to pick up good players.

    If u can’t afford good players…than fine, but if u can…get ‘em.

  • Mr Green

Intrepid. I have several Raider logos I’ve saved on a word page. You can copy and paste text and symbols from the word page. Anyway, I try all the different conversions and formats there but obviously haven’t gotten then into the comment box with any success. But the word program is a good place to experiment. Nice to see your making an effort.

DJ: If you’re referring to Plaxico, the man has talent, but would he present the kind of role model Reggie and DA are looking for, and would he be content to make backup money while being the third wideout (at best)?

  • DJ Johnny

I’m not saying throw money around just to do it, but good established players cost money….for a reason…they’re usually good.

I think this team still needs some help.

I’m not saying to overpay guys just for the sake of doing it either.

If u have some money, and you can get a good player…why wouldn’t u do it?

  • Mr Green
  • DJ Johnny

Duck, I don’t know. Probably not a good role model but Reggie rings a bit disingenuous on that count when the first guy he brings in is a guy arrested multiple times and accused of raping a woman after a charity event(Underwood).

I gotta stop cuz it sounds like i’m ripping on Reggie. I really like the guy and most of what he’s doing.

You’re right about Plax not wanting to be a backup but time is running out for him. Each day noone talks with him makes him a little less cocky I would assume.

  • DJ Johnny

Then we get to the question would we as fans want a guy like Plax on the team even IF Reggie wanted him?

    That’s a good question. I don’t know. Maybe not.

  • Intrepid

Duckman, looking in my media guide best guess is Micky Marvin, college scout. Beard matches, anyway. Drafted by and played for Raiders’77-’87 OL.Still working for them.

  • Intrepid

In his spare time, Micky Marvin serves as a prison chaplain.

if moores hammy doesnt heal and he is not starting week 1, id say with that in mind, with what we have….id say sign him (plax) for the veteran presence

  • Intrepid

Mr. Green, thanks for the suggestions and info. I know you’ll get there first unless I luck into something. Sometimes ignorance can work in your favor. We know it can be done.

Reggie is not throwing money around for no good reason, or media splash. New Regime. The man is thoughtful and deliberate.
    ===============================================
    Thoughtful is always good.
    Deliberate ? Not always.
Sometimes, he who hesitates is lost.

Say what you want about AD’s mistakes, but I think there’s something to be said in favor of a streamlined decision making process.

Say for example, DA covets a specific FA. He goes to Reggie and says ‘can you get me this guy ?’. Reggie thinks he can get the guy, but it’s gonna be costly and might cause cap havoc. Now Reggie might be running football operations, but he’s got to go to Mark to get the go ahead to spend the dough. Then he might have to restructure several guys and isn’t sure if that’s doable or desireable.

Not an insurmountable problem or a terrific hinderance, after all, most clubs operate this way.

But I think there’s something to be said for having a true football man acting as owner and primary GM.

Most people will disagree, but I like the idea of a football ‘czar’ or you might say, ‘dictator’.

Might have been too much for Al towards the end and he probably micromanaged too much, but I think a streamlined decision making process, with an extremely powerful and competent football man in charge, has inherent merit.

It certainly benefited the Raids at one time.

  • DJ Johnny

Raiderman99 I was thinking on that exact same thing yesterday and it occured to me that the “last of the Mohicans” in that regard anymore is Jerry Jones.

Say what you will about Jerry, but he has assembled a pretty talented cast down there.

I don’t think much thought has been put toward personalities meshing and all that though.

  • DJ Johnny

….oh and Jerry is nowhere near the “football guy” that Al Davis was either; but he does have the whole dictatorship thing goin’ on.

As the Raiders prepare for their preseason tilt with the Cowboys a couple of interesting notes worth a mention.

-Despite the billion dollar stadium and all the hype, the Raiders…despite their “avaerageness” the last couple yrs. actually have a better record than Dallas.
    16-16 -Raiders
    14-18 -Dallas

-Over the last 17 yrs. the Raiders have won 4 times as many playoff games as “Americas Team” despite the Raiders only recently emerging from the darkest period in their history.

-Raiders own the all time head to head battle with the Cowboys.

  • JB

    INTREPID

Thanks for asking. I’m fine now. Was a couple of (fluid) quarts low and caused Low Blood Pressure blackout. I got out of the ER just in time to miss the practice. Probably will get a bill for $750 bucks for everything. All in all, not the most successful of days.

Guess it could have been worse :-)

  • blackandsilverside

Romo’s sub-performance, combined with some unbelievably idiotic and bonehead schemes from coaches like Rob Ryan have led to the Cowboys’ downfall.

Oh, and don’t forget the meddling owner: reminds me of AD.

  • blackandsilverside

Moore has to go; he’s supremely talented but will never hold up. He can’t even go through OTA’s without tweaking his “hammy.” Let’s second that motion with Ford and Taiwan too.

I always wonder why the real durable guys like DHB are sculbs. If we could put Moore in DHB’s body, we would really have something.

  • blackandsilverside

Btw, the Ryan brothers are big, fat pigs: the NFL should ban them permanently for: 1) being dumb; and 2)being morbidly obese.

  • RAIDERMAN99

….oh and Jerry is nowhere near the “football guy” that Al Davis was either; but he does have the whole dictatorship thing goin’ on.
    ================================================
    No doubt about that.

Jerry’s only real success came when the ‘other’ JJ, Jimmy Johnson, was doing the coaching and was the main man on draft day.

Still, you get the idea that the right ‘dictator’ acting in conjunction with a good coach can be a formidable combination.

Heard Madden say that Al Davis never turned down his request for anything. I’ll guarantee you Al wasn’t easy to work for, but it must be pretty sweet as a coach knowing that if you need something, you just have to go to one man and he can make it all happen.

A lot of good coaches can’t co-exist with a dictator like Al. There’s going to be some personality clashes. Inevitable when you put strong willed men together.

And of course, it’s unlikely there will ever be another Al Davis.

Extremely doubtful that any sports franchise will ever be run again like the Raids once were, or that any team will be so uniquely associated with a single individual as Al and the Raiders.

  • mcfadden20.

Go Raiders and go A’s btw I hate the A’s owner I would have taken a guy like Al Davis over him a thousand times more
