End 1st qtr: Lions 3, Raiders 0

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, August 25th, 2012 at 4:42 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Sebastian Janikowski missed a 30-yard field goal and Jason Hanson connected from 41 to account for the scoring in a first quarter that was mostly two possessions.

Carson Palmer was 4-for-5 for 51 yards on Oakland’s first series. Faced with fourth-and-1 at the 13, coach Dennis Allen opted to take the points _ only to have Janikowski inexplicably miss a chip-shot attempt.

Detroit drove 57 yards in 12 plays to set up Hanson for the Lions’ field goal.

Bad news for the Raiders _ four pre-snap first-quarter penalties. Two false starts on Mike Brisiel and neutral zone infractions on Matt Shaughnessy and Dave Tollefson.

Oakland’s second possession resulted in a single first down _ a 12-yard Palmer to Rod Streater pass. Streater has three catches for 42 yards.

Nice 56 yarder But when your kicker play is the main highlight of your offense you have a problem.

We look even better with stafford out.

All Stafford did was score 6 pts. when he WAS in.

Guys calm down the team is going to be fine, don’t worry about points, they will come, I want to see ausberry more. And the defense will be fine it is obvious that the team is tackling better and even with tarvers vanilla scheme you can see a difference. Btw wheeler is all over the field

I actually think Shockley would thrive in this offense, has very good hands, but the guy is a rat

    Our starters beat their starters…period.

When we can’t score from the one we suck…when they can’t score on 4th down it’s becuz Stafford threw a bad pass.

How good is this defense when we have horrible int. that gives ‘em short field…and we still don’t let ‘em in the endzone?

I know how it goes…when we do well it’s only preseason….but if we suck in preseason…..it’s alarming and matters so much more.
