Parrish practicing with Raiders

By Steve Corkran
Tuesday, August 28th, 2012 at 11:59 am in Oakland Raiders.

Wide receiver/returner Roscoe Parrish is at practice, wearing No. 18, and taking part in all the drills, only hours after he signed with the Raiders.
Parrish is wearing the number last worn by wide receiver Louis Murphy. Parrish’s wore No. 11 with the Buffalo Bills. However, that is taken by kicker Sebastian Janikowski.
Given Parrish had been active and health-free, he is exempt from the three-day acclimation period afforded injured players. Therefore, he is able to practice right away, as well as play in Oakland’s game against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night.
We won’t know until after practice how coach Dennis Allen intends to use Parrish and whether Parrish will play Thursday.
Kick returner Jacoby Ford still is recovering from a left foot injury. Punt returner Denarius Moore is fighting through a lingering hamstring injury.
At this point, it’s not a stretch to envision Parrish handling all return duties in the regular-season opener against the San Diego Chargers on Sept. 10.
It’s also not out of the question for Parrish to remain in the fold when Ford and Moore return to full strength, at least on punt returns, his specialty.

– Ford, Moore, defensive tackle Richard Seymour, linebacker Aaron Curry and center Stefen Wisniewski are not practicing. Tight end Richard Gordon returned to practice after missing a stretch with sore ribs.

– Offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and defensive coordinator Jason Tarver are slated to speak with the media this afternoon. So, expect plenty from them in a later post.

– Parrish also is scheduled to address the media soon after practice.

– Today’s practice is the final one before the roster cutdown to 53 players Friday. Therefore, the game Thursday night will be the last chance for players to make a favorable impression upon the coaches.

Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Knapp said creating special packages for No. 3 QB Terrelle Pryor to run is …

“a possibility. It creates some good chess matches with defensive coaches.” Would depend on which 46 players are active on game day and if injuries allowed for a No. 3 QB to be one of them.

What’s sad is that the NFL has to run a Public service AD to encourage Kids to get out and play.

    Seriously?

I never understood why teams can only have a portion of the 53 man roster active on game day…..if injuries are a concern, why not let more guys play and maybe lower some of the reps on the starters?

    RM99,

Not only is Slo-mania going to sweep over the AFC West, but Knapp is going to put up more points this year, than we scored last year.
    ===================================================
Wouldn’t rule that out. But I’ll tell you what – with Palmer at QB instead of Jason Cantball, and a healthy DMAC (keeping fingers crossed) the Raids BETTER score more points.

    I expect nothing less.

Still, Knapp sux. Expect to see more asinine calls like the short pass to Myers that I mentioned earlier. Just indefensible crap. Don’t care if it’s the pre-season. That’s GARBAGE.

Besides, I know you can’t relate to this, (as you’ve said many times you weren’t around for the glory years and just want to finally win now, regardless of style) – but Knapp ball ain’t RAIDER ball.

RAIDER ball should be smashmouth, pound the fool in front of you. Stretch the field VERTICALLY, not horizontally.

Knapp failed here once before and he’s gonna wash out again.

Slo ain’t much of a LB, maybe he can be the offensive coordinator.

DVD seems like a good kid and a hard-worker, no real issues there.

But I just don’t see how he isn’t playing for his job on Thursday.

I agree that He seems like a good kid and worker, but He’s playing with grown Men and needs to step up or get stepped on, and pushed out.

Hmm, well, I think a lot of people will be disappointed. I don’t think we are a playoff team… yet. We are just paper thin. I love how our defense has played thus far, ranked 4th in the NFL, allowing opposing runners less than 4ypc, holding Megatron to 1 catch for 6 yards, keeping Detroits starters out of the end zone for the first half all very positive things.
I am very concerned about our offensive consistancy though. Palmer has made some less than stellar decisions so far and that worries me, I think if he plays through september the way he did through August he will spend the rest of the season holding Leinarts clip board.

    ==================

I will agree with almost everything you said here. However I think palmer should get more rope than only the month of september. I think the lienart is kyle boller with out the arm strength. If palmer stinks the team will tank and lienart isnt a good enough player to save the season. He wont be able to lead us into the playoffs either. he may be a better fit in this offense, but he clearly isnt nearly as good a player as palmer. If palmer goes out after 7-8 games, turn it over to the young prospect TP. this way by seasons end we will know if we need to draft a qb.

I have said it since last season, new ownership, new front office, new coach and new qb equal a full on rebuild.

  • oakfoshow

Everybody knew DVD was a project player when he was drafted.Cutting him now would be rediculous.I think is upside is great.

  • RaiderRetribution

We will lose Cumbie if he is cut, he will not survive waivers to reach the practice squad; there are a few teams he could start, definately be 2nd string.

Kilgore is a keeper, he makes plays.

McGee needs huge game against Seattle (for what it’s worth he is still listed ahead of criner on depth chart).

DVD, Chekwa, Lee, Underwood,: would not be surprised if Black beats out one of them for a roster spot.

I also expect Nix to make 53-man roster, Raiders to carry 9 OL.

Hamilton could make 53-man roster as well, Reggie could be letting other teams know you are not getting any of our quality DTs for free.

Curry going to PUP would open up another spot for the first six weeks.

  • RaiderRetribution

Tx, i agree sign Cooley, Ausberry as 7th WR, would need to get back to WR weight.

DVD is another of these “high ceiling” guys that I guess we are just supposed to stash on the 53 man roster and have him inactive on gamedays, in the hopes he can start in 2015 or something.

    F all that.
    ++++++++++++++++++++

Hey, Reggie can’t rid the roster of all of the Al Davis garbage in one season…..some of the fans would stroke out! (can’t wait until they get a better broadcast crew though…smh….watching those games listening to those guys slur their words and be 5 seconds behind the play is tiresome)

Al drafted him based on both his 40 time and Rod Woodson’s judgement that DVD could be coached up, which makes #26 the first Raider coach to notice how much better DVD practices than plays and be fooled.

JFB, I know you couldn’t stand Hue.

You know how I’ve slammed Hue for his game management, not having the squad even show up for Mia and GB, refusing to admit mistakes and learn from them, the power grab, etc.

But Hue took aggression to the extreme.

Probably took it too far. There was no doubt if Hue had to choose between keeping it on the ground late and running clock OR going for the dagger with a pass play – that ball was seeing the air. No fking question abt it. It wasn’t predictable – it was guaranteed !

    Fake punts. Fake FG’s.

    Balls to the wall.

Know we got Gregg Sominex Knapp.

Gregg Knapp is the antithesis of RAIDER ball and needs to hit the road.

  • http://Www.bullycains.com r8dercain

Waited late to hire a coach. Which mea.s he got some coaches off the scrap pile. Knapp has one maybe two seasons at best. To show he can get it done.

  • http://raiders.com Klas Tjorborn

Anyone see Conroy Black play in preseason games? I haven’t notice him.

  • TxRaider210

Conroy hasn’t made plays that I noticed.

  • http://raiders.com Klas Tjorborn

Has Derek Carrier played at all? I had hopes for him. Maybe he will be practice squad player. 6’4 238 WR is worth keeping.

  • TxRaider210

Knapp will be better just by not having a walrus at QB.

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

The way TP has been criticized by some after his first two nfl pre season games would make you believe he was the next ryan leaf. However after spending time taking in lots of pre season football I have seen that simply isnt true. As I type TP is on par with many 1st, 2nd and 3rd year qbs around the leauge in terms of passing the ball.

Some young qbs that are starting are huge question marks and have been just as likely to throw a pick as people have said tp is. jake Locker, christian ponder, brandon weeden, tannehill, gabbert have ranged between lees than spectacular to out right awful during the course of games. i see TP in a similar mode, he is young and will make rookie mistakes. I would argue that pryor has just as much if not more upside than any of these guys. hell he even has better numbers than our starter, so when his time comes give him a long look.

he is no further behind other back ups around the leauge as well. Gusy like seneca wallace tyrod taylor tim tebow, (mark sanchez), colt mccoy and so on.

I think we have been a bit to harsh on the kid, and he is proving the doubters wrong. he is no more likeley to throw a pick than anyone else on this list, I think we have a kid worth committing some real time and coaching to.
