Report: Raiders sign young cornerback

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, August 29th, 2012 at 1:13 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders claimed cornerback Coye Francies off waivers, less than a day after he was waived by the Seattle Seahawks. Francies is listed as being a member of the Raiders on NFL.com, though the Raiders have yet to announce the transaction.
Francies, 25, appeared in eight games for the Cleveland Browns in 2009 and 2010. He finished the 2011 season on the Seahawks practice squad. The Seahawks waived Francies as part of their getting down to the league-mandated 75 players Monday.
Francies, 6-foot and 185 pounds, played at San Jose State. He is expected to compete for a backup spot and playing time on special teams.
He doesn’t have long to make a favorable impression. The Raiders are off Wednesday and play the Seahawks in their exhibition finale Thursday night.
Final roster cuts are Friday.

    I will make a bold statement here – the defense will be better than our offense this year.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    How the hell is that bold?!

    The defense is clearly playing well.
    ==========
    It’s bold because the defense was #32 in the league last year, and the offense was in the top 1/3rd.

    And, because we lost more talent than we gained probably on defense. What we gained was mostly in smart coaches.
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Well sure Maverick, if you had said that at the end of the year it would have been bold.
    In the first three pre-season games it is clear that the defense has greatly improved which is exactly what we expected from Allen.

    ================================

    You make a good argument. But with regards to the offense, we have not had our number two receiver out there at all, nor our “starting” TE til last game. No OC in his right mind is going to run Dmac more than a handful of plays, if that and our number two AND three backs have barely played. Our number three receiver has been horrible. We are playing a couple of guys who not only have never played with our O before, they have never even been in an NFL game before. Marcel Reece has barley gotten a sniff and there are reasons for that. And if that is not enough, our starting center has not even played one half. Right there I give the O a bit of a mulligan going into the season opener.
    ====================
    We didn’t have our starting 2 WRs for much of last season or DMac and threw in a starting QB from the couch without even time to learn the playbook and it still looked better last year.

    I can’t see how a Charger fan can be all that confident. I pick them for last in the AFC West.
    Third if KC melts down.

    LaDainian Tomlinson has joined NFL network as an analyst.

    He will fit right in with the rest of the Raider haters and blowhards on that network

    Let the haters hate, while we watch the wins pile up

    I believe we did offer Miller a contract.However it makes little difference.He was a restricted FA and we choose not to meet what Seattle offered.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    You’re right Lefty but this still burns me because Al tried to low-ball Miller and his agent and that lost us Miller.
    But who cares, its done and over.

    And his contract expired, and wasn’t resigned.
    To you that’s a plus?
    No, means they didn’t want him back.
    Easy math/////////////Michael Bush, Jason Campbell, Trevor Howard, Zach Miller, Kamerion Wimbly, Contract expired. Nnamdi-voided. Not resigned. Easy math. Scrubs, scrubs, all of them scrubs, I tell ya.

  • TxRaider210

    I think Myers is decent and has earned time as a starter, although we all agree he’s a catch and fall type of TE with no hops at all.

    well now the raiders find themselves in quite a quandary with two of the most polarizing figures in uniform and both playing the same position at that. buckle your seat belts kids this could be a wild ride to rebuild ville.

    carson palmer is either loved or despised by most in the fan base. seen as a franchise elite qb by those that look at some of his past achievements ( 2006 in particular was an elite level year), or a washed up mistake prone qb stumbling toward an ugly end for those that look at his current production and project forward.

    Whats important to keep in mind is that palmer is a hold over from the last regime, and in know way is guaranteed to stick through the rebuild. Just like new owners want their own gm, the new gm wants his own coach, and the coach wants his own qb. we have seen this play out before here in Oakland. palmers recent struggles are not lost on the front office and coaches even if they say all of the right things to dismiss them in public. palmer will get the benefit of he doubt being a pro of 10 years, but he must perform well or may not make it to the end of the year as the starter. he will need to prove to the new brain trust that he is the answer moving forward. so far he is doing the opposite.

    terrel pryor is also a guy that elicits a strong response simply with the mention of his name. he is either a tebow clone that will never make it as an nfl qb, and a tight end waiting to happen, or a unique once in a life time talent with limitless upside. pryor also wasnt a part of the new regimes draft or signings. he too must prove that he belongs.

    How will this play out? Id say look to last years broncos for clues. new coach comes in with orton who was a hold over. orton played ok but the team lost its first 4-5 games. the crowd wanted to see what tebow could do the coaches did as well and the rest was history.

    elway fox orton tebow, are akin to big mck da palmer and pryor in this scenario. If palmer does not play well enough to lead the team to wins early in th season he may get the same treatment orton suffered, in favor of the raw rookie qb with the difficult to gauge ceiling.

    After all D.A was there when the tebow show caught fire and im sure after seeing tebow up close and personal he is best suited to make any comparisons between pryor and the a fore mentioned.

    There are how ever two things that pryor has that give him an edge. Pryor is a better passer than tebow at this stage of his career, stronger arm, better mechanics ( not saying much here), more accurate. pryor is far better athlete, tebow is more of a power runner, pryor has that but also speed to burn. the biggest thisng hge has going for him however is the raiders are the fastest team in football. the wr’s and rbs are speed demons and coupled with pryor will give him much more to work with than tebow ever had in dungver.

    This could get really interesting really fast, because if palmer flops the calls for pryor will begin, and D.A and big mck may just listen.

    More like OC Knapp should be the one replaced!

    We need a TE and a backup power RB.
