It’s official, DVD waived, Hanson signed

The Raiders confirmed the waiving of second-year cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke and the signing of veteran cornerback Joselio Hanson on Monday.
What’s more, Hanson is practicing today, wearing No. 29. He is projected as a nickel corner, someone capable of covering the slot receiver, much as he did with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Hanson is one of six new cornerbacks on Oakland’s roster this year. It’s worth noting that Oakland’s top five cornerbacks from 2011 are gone: Stanford Routt (Chiefs), Chris Johnson (unsigned), Lito Sheppard (unsigned), Van Dyke (free agent) and Chimdi Chekwa (Raiders practice squad).
The other new cornerbacks on Oakland’s roster are: Phillip Adams, Coye Francies, Ron Bartell, Shawntae Spencer and Pat Lee.

– Adams is wearing No. 28, linebacker Keenan Clayton No. 57, cornerback Coye Francies No. 31 and offensive tackle Willie Smith No. 79.

– Center Stefen Wisniewski returned to practice after being sidelined since Aug. 13 with a calf injury he suffered against the Dallas Cowboys.
However, it was Alex Parsons working with the first-team offense and Colin Miller with the second-team offense.

– Wide receivers Denarius Moore (hamstring) and Jacoby Ford (foot) and linebacker Aaron Curry (knees) are not practicing. Curry and Moore worked with a team trainer at the start of practice, off to the side. Ford wasn’t spotted doing any working out.

– Defensive tackle Richard Seymour practiced for the first time since he appeared in a game against the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 17. He has been sidelined with a sore knee.

– Wide receiver Juron Criner is at practice. However, it’s obvious that he is at less than full strength. He ran pass routes but he appeared to be limping quite a bit. We shall seek an update from coach Dennis Allen in 90 minutes or so.

– Today is Oakland’s first practice since Aug. 28. It also marks the beginning of preparation for the San Diego Chargers in earnest, with the regular-season opener a week from today.
The Raiders practice today and Tuesday, before taking a day off Wednesday. They return for practices Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

No worries Mr Charles, the world will know your name when Wheeler cleans your clock this year:)

    Ha

    Love Wheeler.

    He’s a baller.

Yes he is, and Burris is the same type of player, can’t wait to see these LB’s in a game that counts!

I just hope Knapp wasn’t playing with a full deck during pre-season. But if he was, we’re sunk.

The Raiders made a “strategic” decision to go to the WCO and ZBS. If Carson Palmer and company can’t execute it, they will be replaced next year.

The coaches knew who was on the roster and made a decision for the scheme based on what they think is best.

    Players have to execute

    ____________________________________________

    Wrong….

If Knapp cannot make it work than he will be gone!

    ====================================================
Reggie, DA and Knapp did not trade for Palmer. I assure you those three will outlast Palmer IF, and only IF things don’t work out.

    __________________________________________________

    Nope…..Knapp first 2 go….if this Offense isn’t top 10…..

    WRITE THAT DOWN!

    ==================================================
    Backstage,

If Palmer was 27 or 28, then maybe so. But if Carson can’t execute Knapp’s offense this year, I doubt the Raiders stick with a 33/34 yr old QB another year hoping for the upside.

Reggie and company will draft their own QB. Happens all the time.

so it looks like reggie just tweaked the offense with some depth and completely overhauled the defense. yep. great job!

I thought the big plays came from ZBS??

Two of Darren’s 3 longest runs came from CLEAR ZBS blocking.

And I am sure if I look at the 3rd one, it will be ZBS as well.

Best run-blocking scheme in the NFL.

  • oakfoshow

How many years did it take for houston to get it right?Last year top 10 offense, you do not f with that. And seattle aint $hit.

by the way, who was cut to make room for Phillip Adams??

Although I will admit I am rooting for Knapp…..all he has to do is adjust a bit….
    >>>>

You mean like throwing screen passes or quick sideline passes when the other team is all-out blitzing every play and is constantly in the backfield? I chastised people for trying to make too many conclusions about play calling during practice games, but man did the Seattle game give me deja vu back to 2008. Its frightening.

One frigging screen play the whole game from what I noticed.

Its almost like Knapp thinks screen plays never work or something… even though that’s all Brady ever threw winning his first SB ring.

    Frightening.

cant wait to see how this year goes..Our Cbs last year were sooo bad. what did Reggie do, got rid of them all..good move ..but then he replaces them with a guy who p[layed 1 game in 2011, coming off two neck surgeries, and hasnt had an interception since 2008. Then he brings in spencer a 3rd down corner for most of his 9 years who never had more than 4 ints in a season. he then picks up 7 days before the season starts his slot corner who is ranked at the bottom at the league for slot defenders. all this while the free agency market for cbs was very deep. Reggie is either a genius or a clown. time will tell..

uh hey dumbells/ the zbs sucks? does it suck for houston? how about seattle? just waith till the starters are out there. we will run all day on teams. which will open the passing game. duh.

I don’t know if Seattle is the best example for the effectiveness of the ZBS…their strength is more defense…plus they’re coming off two straight 7-9 seasons.

But Houston? Yeah they use it and they are SB contenders according to alot of people.

    Good post!

That’s what GM’s do. They are constantly looking for ways to improve the team. I think as fans that know quite a bit about our team anyone here would say the team was woeful at CB, DL, and LB last season.

RMac is doing what anyone would expect the GM of a sports franchise to do. Make the necessary changes to improve the team.

Have we seen the RESULTS yet? Nope.

Have the New, Reggie Raiders played on down yet? Nope.

Stop your whining and give the man a chance. If he sucks we’ll see it in the results.

    ++++++++++++

um. didn’t reggie say the CB position had to be upgraded when he was hired? he overhauled it. well done. only 2 of the 6 LB’s on the roster were here last year and one was hurt. 3 new DL. and one was hurt last year. safeties are the same. so let’s see. of the 24 defensive players on the roster, 11 are left from last year’s horrendous defense and 13 are new. plus the return of 2 injured guys, so really 15 of the 24 are different. so what it is the complaint? sounds like he cleaned the fuking house!

Houston, another team with a great d,and a qb who has proven he can play west coast. We have niether, but had a top 10 offense with a powerblocking, and drop back pass scheme with an a$$ load of offensive injuries.YOU BUILD ON THAT AND CREAT A GOOD DEFENSE WHILE SCOREING ALOT OF POINTS.

  • oakfoshow

I dont think anybody is complaining about changing the defensive culture other than cutting dvd.

last year we had an excellent offense from the 20 to the20yd line. but horrible in the red zone. think we were 16th in scoring which in the end is all that matters. quite frankly , Jano’s pro bowl season saved us many times as he was money from 45 to 60 yds.
