Wheeler is a good player, but I hope we don’t have to see him covering TEs too much. Seems to be the hole in his game.
Love him as a blitzer, and he’s been VERY active against the run.
Seymour is indeed over the hill. Luckily the Raiders were able to restructure his contract. I like the Darren Sharper comparison DA made – he’s a guy who can still contribute if you monitor his snaps.
McClain is, in my opinion, in a very similar vein to Huff and Mitchell. A limited player who does enough well for DA to finally put him in a position where he isn’t a liability.

Can’t tell you how disappointed I was with MM34’s decision to go for the hit instead of the pick on that play where he drew the flag.
Was even more disappointed with him doing the head butt celebration after it was CLEAR that it was a penalty.

It’s not like Knapp’s never been successful before. But a lot comes down to him ability to find a use for the pieces the Raiders have, and how well the offensive line executes the ZBS.
I have a hard time bashing coordinators based on their past records. If we’ve seen anything in the NFL over the years, it’s that coaches only thrive when the situation is right. For example, no Superbowl-winning coach has ever gone to another team as a head coach and won another Superbowl.

The injuries are exactly why he’s over the hill. Take John Henderson, for instance. Had never been injured in his career until the last few years, when he couldn’t stay on the field.
Just because he’s far from his prime doesn’t mean he can’t contribute, though. The Raiders just have to monitor his snaps – again, the Darren Sharper comparison Dennis Allen made is very applicable.

The names next to the players are the people who think those players are a “lost cause”.

September 4th, 2012 at 6:19 pm
The Gut – I have agreed for the most part with his moves. I think the Murphy trade was to early
Knapp – I’m not a fan of the way he plays his game. I dont think Palmer is a roll out guy and I think if something goes wrong with the playcalling I believe Knapp will place blame on players. Dont like the Guy
CP3 – I actually like Palmer. Is he aging? Yes he is. It does seem like he has lost zip on some of his ball and I think he tries to rely on the tough throw too much.
DMC – Absolutley love this kid. The Injuries are a concern. I never really touched on the Trade topic because I would want alot in return and I know that wouldnt happen. I honestly get scared everytime he hits a hole and i hate that feeling when it comes to my HB but if he can somehow stay healthy he would be a top 3 rusher
Goodson – I like the kid and I like the fire but he is a fumble machine. I think he has some big play ability but the positive of that gets taken away from the fumbles..I would have rather had Benson (Yea I said It)
DHB – I broke my hand when we drafted him but he grew on me and now I’m a huge fan.
DMo – The guy is Dynamite at times but the Injuries are killing me. Plus DMo has a reputation of having a poor attitude when things dont go his way and the Injuries could mess with his head(Volunteer Days)
Ford – I drive a CHEVY
Seymour – You were very good at 1 time but you are aging and taking up alot of money.
Death Ro – I watch all his college games and was juiced when we drafted him. Now it’s a little lackluster. We’ll know by Mid Season if he will be our MLB of the Future
Missile Mike – Had no clue who he was. At 1point I was frustrated but I think with Tarvers defense he will be a big part. I predict 4 sacks
Huffy – I rode a Schwinn
Wheeler – I like the guy. He will be big for us and Reggie Mac will extend his contract.

Bob Marley Says:

Time will tell on DVD, his career may be over or he may play for another team.
But I will say this, I’m not on board with the move, I think it was premature to get rid of the kid and here’s why:
- For those who say “he wasn’t an NFL player”.
Wrong, facts and numbers are against you, no way to avoid them.
First of all, DVD actually started 4 games last year and went largely unnoticed, always a good sign for CB’s because if you’re hearing their names often, it usually means they’re getting torched.
I don’t recall anybody ripping DVD during his 4 starts and that was because he did a fine job for a rookie, yes he dropped a pick or two and missed a couple of tackles, but overall teams did not have much success when attacking him and that’s the most important thing for a CB, you know, not have opponents complete passes to his guy, coverage talent is hard to find, the rest can be developed.
Rookie CB’s get abused in the NFL on a yearly basis, QB’s lick their fingers when they spot one on the field and then usually pick on them all the time because often they struggle to adjust to this level, I watched Patrick Peterson get burned on a number of plays last year, but you know what?……..it did not happen to DVD, he was targeted and he did a good enough job that QB’s didn’t stay after him.
- Those are just my observations, you want some analysis from people who watch and grade every play individually?, here you go:
* Pro football focus: As a rookie last season, Van Dyke had a Raiders cornerback-best burn rate of 43.8, per Stats Inc., giving up 14 receptions on 32 targets for 167 yards, and a touchdown. DVD was also recognized for 4 passes defended.
* Pro football outsiders: On DVD as one their Top 25 NFL hidden prospects: Our game charting project shows him with only 4.6 adjusted yards per pass and a success rate of 67 percent. Those numbers are among the league’s best, but come with the small sample size caveat. In the past, small sample size charting numbers have picked out some soon-to-breakout stars (Cortland Finnegan) but also some busts. Van Dyke has the athletic talent to be a starting corner if he can work on his technique and discipline.
So, now that we have established that DVD, with all of his perceived flaws and by all accounts still very raw, actually started and played decent football in 4 games and saw action in many others, we can get that “DVD sucked” uhmm “argument” out of the way, in real NFL games he didn’t, in pre-seaon he kind of did for some resaon.
- Now I like the addition of Joselio Hanson, we needed a Slot CB badly, if it had come down to a Hanson vs DVD debate, I could see the logic behind dropping DVD who, make no mistake, I still consider a project, as opposed to a proven veteran but that was not the case.
At least it should not have been when Coye Francis gets a spot.
So my big beef is keeping Coye Francis over DVD.
Let’s see:
Coye Francis was drafted in 2009 by Cleveland and has played a grand total of 8 NFL games in 3 years since, obviously he’s never started one, the guy ended up the 2010 season in the UFL and was out of the NFL entirely in 2011, the kid has some talent, I´ll give him that, but he has shown nothing in games so far.
So when I see some guys saying stuff like “no more potential guys”, “we’re about production now” or something like that I wonder…………….where’s Francies production?, DVD has produced more in 1 year than this guy in 3 years since being drafted, there’s not an argument to be made here about production over potential.
And please, don’t give me the Special Teams stuff, first of all DVD played Special Teams last year, I just saw a clip of him covering a punt vs Houston and he was covering kicks vs Dallas in the 1st pre-season game, he may not be great at it but he’s willing to do it and I don’t recall him making any mistakes there.
Besides, if Francies was such a Special Teams standout, he would have never been out of the NFL (like he was for most of 2010 and the entire 2001 season).
- Now isn’t developing young, talented players a part of Coaching?.
Why not coach DVD up, why give up so soon, why not give him one more year?.
It can make a world of difference, if you don’t believe it I have a name for you Darrius Heyward-Bey.
September 4th, 2012 at 6:29 pm
I was not on board with DHB until last year, and neither was anybody else. Now my favorite player.Big heart on this kid.Took alot of crap, now stuffing back in alot of faces. How can you not love that?

DHB has always been what he is. A hard worker, humble, good blocker downfield, tough, and big.
None of that should be a surprise 4 years after the fact.

Can’t speak for 2012 yet, but Seymour was absolutely TEARING IT UP the first 5 games before he got hurt last season. No kidding. He was in the early, Q1 discussion for NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Big Rich was averaging 1.0 sacks per game and about 4 tackles per game through the first five. That’s a pace for 80 tackles and 16 sacks from the DT position.
Then he got hurt and was never remotely the same, though he did block that kick in KC which could’ve saved the season. Realistically it’s very unlikely he could’ve kept up that pace for the entire season, but it shows that he was still one of the most dominant defensive linemen in the league for the first third of 2011, so I think there’s reason to have a little faith in Big Rich and a willingness to at least see where he’s at, despite the fact he opted to sit out a few meaningless practice games.
September 4th, 2012 at 6:40 pm
Well put Chris.
We nearly had the NFL MVP (McFadden) and the Defensive Player of the Year both on the same team. Injuries cost us that one for sure.
September 4th, 2012 at 6:43 pm
Sorry, my math was off on Seymour’s tackles. Wasn’t on pace for about 80 tackles but rather around 60. Which would’ve put him in the top 5 among DTs, right around some guy named Haloti Ngata, who like Seymour, had 5 sacks in 2011.

As I’ve said many times before, the best thing about Reggie McKenzie is that if he doesn’t get the job done, he can and will be fired. Which is not something you could say about the last GM.
Even if the Raiders don’t win a Superbowl in Reggie’s tenure, he’ll have contributed plenty to the long-term prospects of the Raiders.

That’s because there’s more to evaluating a player than saying “this player sucks” or “this player is awesome”.
When building a team, the most important job a GM and head coach have is to recognize specifically what a player’s strengths are, and finding a way to put him in a position to succeed. Many good players in the NFL don’t exactly have the most complete skill set, but they have a role carved out for them that allows them to flourish.

Try telling that to the semi’s here that only know two ways to judge a situation: “this player sucks” & “this player is awesome”
They never take the full scope of things into consideration. They just make knee jerk reactions.
So Im asking everyone to put their names on it. Im tired of the relentless bashing of our team that goes on. Too many trolls or agendas to count, and not enough accountability for the negativity.

Raider Riff is on the pre draft list last April, KK. You weren’t.
September 4th, 2012 at 7:34 pm
The Gut – The Reggie is awesome, has a plan, and will have us fighting for the AFC West every year, just the way it should be
Knapp – Solid hire, will help us score more points than last season, and enhance a run-game that disappeared when we needed it most last season
CP3 – Losing a little patience, but not much in preseason. 1st and 10 INT’s into double coverage is not going to fly though.
DMC – Ready for a great year, 1,500+ from LOS type stuff
Goodson – ST guy to replace Cartwright, Randy Jordan 2.0
DHB – Best run-blocking WR in NFL, will help D-Mac turn those 20 yarders into 50 yarders. Do expect production to decrease a tad from last year
DMo – One of the highest ceiling players on the roster. Get healthy young man!!!
Ford – Should have traded him instead of Murphy (would have gotten more back as well) during the draft when his market value was at it’s highest. 1 fumble per 20 touches is worst on roster, and worse than any Raider player I could find of late.
Seymour – Paid way to much for him, and now to him. If he can get us 7 sacks this year, I would be pleased
Death Ro – Slo-Mania is about to sweep up Raider Nation
Missile Mike – Garbage. Can’t really cover, awful in space, not as good as originally thought on ST’s. EXpect him to be dead last in the safety rotation by year end.
Huffy – Meh……not sure about him. Does seem to make his best plays on 3rd downs, which is huge for a team that struggles to get off the field. Probably overpaid still.
Wheeler – Looks great so far. Fierce tackler, takes solid angles, seems like a quality presence in the locker room. Great signing by The Reggie.
September 4th, 2012 at 7:35 pm
Big-game for the A’s, as clearly the Orioles and Rays (as I have been saying for months) aren’t going anywhere.
A’s fans might have to start tracking the Yankees, as they seem poised for an epic collapse.
September 4th, 2012 at 7:45 pm
Goodson is the third string running back. Not anything to have to worry about. Knapp has proved nothing to me with his play calling. Very predictable. Predictable is not productive. Unless your players happen to be the best in the league. McFadden is the only best in the league guy we have. I mean besides Jon Condo, seabass, and lechler

Yeah it would have to be a situation where they’re absolutely pathetic for two straight seasons for Mark Davis to cut bait any sooner than that. Judging by what I’ve seen thus far, I don’t think that’s going to be the case. Obviously, it remains to be seen whether they will eventually be a consistently dominant team. Thus far, Reggie is doing all the things that successful GMs do, but that doesn’t mean anything yet.

I said we should draft a O-Lineman. Being that the consensus was that our line was deep, Im of the belief that you draft for depth, trade for picks, and use FA to plug holes.
You said I was crazy and that Reggie would never do it. I think you thought he’d go CB. I think you even gave me 100-1 odds on a bet or something like that.
I said if Reggie was smart he’d go O-Line. We argued over semantics a bit but in the end you understood that I wasnt predicting what Reggie would do, only that I knew what he would do if he was smart. Thus the reason I didnt take the bet.
He ended up being smart and getting Bergstrom.
We then later got in a debate over whether Houdini had a chance at securing the #2 spot. I was right again hahaha.
You been trying to even the score ever since hahahahahaha just kidding.
To your credit, you have owned up to being wrong both times and didnt run from it and we quickly were able to move on from the discussion. A very standup guy in my book.

I don’t get the “too predictable” notion with Knapp.
In the AZ game, he draws up a beautiful play to Darren on the sideline, clearly forging a play to fit the unique skillset of McFadden, and it just should have been a walk-in, hahahaha moment schooling the other teams DC, only Palmer pulled a Soup and led him OOB.
That’s not on Knapp. Neither is Goodson fumbling, and Palmer forcing throws on 1st and 10.
Knapp is going to do a great job for us for 2-3 years, before he parlays his success here into a decent collegiate HC gig.

I think Knapp is the kinda guy that if he finally finds a home in the Raiders and is successful, I could see him sticking around for the long term.
I got a feeling that Mark would be willing to pay our assistants whatever is necessary to keep the group together for as long as possible. Just a hunch.
And it seems like the type of group that would really see the benefits in sticking together. They are all sorta in this together so to speak. Most of them in new positions. There will be bonds formed that will be hard to give up, especially if they get competitive offers to stick around.

I can’t judge Knapp, yet. The haters point to what he’s done badly in the past; the non- haters, what he’s done well, and I’m giving him a total pass on his previous stint with the Raiders. I can only wait and see if he really is inflexible and dogmatic with his offensive scheme, ignoring the strengths and weaknesses of his personnel(I doubt it), or has maybe learned a thing or two as he has worked his way around the NFL and is picking Saunders brain and working with our strengths and weaknesses and just didn’t show us jack in the preseason(more likely). Time will tell.
September 4th, 2012 at 9:15 pm
I really don’t want to hate on guys before Game 1. To me everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves and start fresh with a new team this season.
That said, RoMac, Knapp and Goodson probably have less leeway in my book than the rest of the guys on that list, each of whom I have a lot of faith in, if healthy. I don’t bash guys over injuries, whether or not it becomes a recurring issue. Violent game and simply not in their control.

Agreed. Burfict was definitely worth a late flier. My biggest gripe with Reggie is he apparently doesn’t get or doesn’t put stock in the concept of upside. You always have to measure risk/reward and be willing to take a gamble. To me, a 7th round pick is a no-brainer to go with a gamble. That’s why I would’ve loved Burfict there. Relatively few 7th rounders stick in the league very long. Which is also why I didn’t get the point of the Louis Murphy trade.

The Gut – He was never the main guy in GB, but he is a Raider, so gotta roll with him. I will be interested to see what he can do in free agency when his hands aren’t tied due to shoddy cap situation.
Knapp – Never liked Knapp. Ever.
CP3 – I think he is the best QB we have had since Gannon. Not sure if that’s saying much though. I was happy when he came to Oakland, but the offense doesn’t fit his play style. I am a Palmer supporter.
DMC – You won’t find a bigger DMAC supporter than me, going back to his freshman season at Arkansas. If he can stay healthy and get resigned, say goodbye to Allen’s Raider records.
Goodson – If he is the third back, maybe. Pretty nervous about our backup to McFadden. I feel like we have two third stringers at this moment (I don’t think Taiwan Jones is physically ready for primetime yet).
DHB – I have been absolutely brutal on DHB, but his emotional play after Al died started to change my opinion. Al took a beating for this pick (including from me), so I hope DHB can shut people (like me) up.
DMo – Reminds me of a more athletic Chris Chambers. I like him more than Ford, but again, injury issues are frustrating.
Ford – Soft, injury prone. However, its frustrating when he is not available, because he can change a game in the return or receiving game.
Seymour – I think its his last year here. Hasn’t had the impact on the defense I expected.
Death Ro – I almost fell out of my chair when we drafted a LB high in the first round.
Missile Mike – Is he ever going to start here? He isn’t a free, and Tyvon is going to start here for many years. He isn’t talented enough to build a hybrid defense around. I like the big hit as much as anyone else, but not sure if that makes him deserve the amount of praise he is given here.
Huffy – I like Huff, but he has a ton of pressure now that he is playing in a “real” NFL defense. There are not that many guys out there to replace him with.
Wheeler – He hasn’t given me a reason to have an opinion one way or another (other than to stop knocking the crap out of his teammates). We’ll see on Monday night.

I fell for the lefty QB thing hoping for the 2nd coming of Stabler. I did think VY was going to be a beast in the NFL, but we didn’t have a pick that high and I wasn’t convinced that Cutler was going to be great because his Vandy teams were pretty sad for the most part. Media flip flops regularly. ALWAYS talks up and roots for the teams that won the previous year every year. Then when a team surprises they jump on the hot team and send them all the praise. It happens every year.
========================================
I agree, but they take some joy in hating on the Raiders. They’ve all written us off as a bottom-feeder even though we were right in the thick of it last year in competing for the division. They completely overlook the fact that Palmer & DMAC have yet to play together.
September 4th, 2012 at 10:25 pm
Raiders passed on Fitzgerald for Gallery, Rogers for Washington, Johnson (Calvin) for Russell, could’ve had Randy Moss & Megatron as our WR tandem.
September 4th, 2012 at 10:30 pm
Alot of the media guys pick teams with QB’s they think will do well.
They think Palmer is a has been. Look at the teams they think will win:
GB-Rodgers
NO-Brees
NE-Brady
NYG-Eli
Den-Peyton
Pitt.-Ben
SD-Rivers
Notice how SF is getting very little love from most…and they were a turnover from going to SB.
September 4th, 2012 at 10:34 pm
Most of the media look at ONE position as the primary measuring stick…there are other factors, but the MAIN ONE is always “who’s the QB”?
Philly-Vick
ATL-Matty Ice
Det-Stafford
Dal-Romo
It’s always the QB that’s the main focus. As it should be in most cases.
We’ll go as far as Palmer takes us.

Funny thing is i’ve heard alot of analysis on Raiders revolve around “if DMAC is healthy” and “if Palmer plays well”.
IF the above occurs, there is no doubt Raiders can be a force this yr. Even so called dik wad “experts” agree on that.
The thing is, they don’t think DMAC WILL stay healthy and Palmer will cut down on int’s and lead this team.
September 4th, 2012 at 10:44 pm
Very true, DJ. The East Coast bias is also affecting how they view SF’s chances but you make a good point with the QB position. It is the most important position but yet they still manage to find a way to over value it IMO. They put these QBs high up on a pedestal and practically worship them.
September 4th, 2012 at 10:46 pm
Russell was a beast, had 10 sacks his rookie season, but he liked popping pills more than playing football.
RIP Russell!
September 4th, 2012 at 10:51 pm
138,
Yeah. I’ve heard almost nothing on SF being a true contender. Why? Alex Smith. Sure some are predicting SF to do things, but i’ve heard more talk up Carolina’s chances becuz of Cam Newton than SF.
They do go over the top on QB’s but it truly is the most important position.
Manning goes down in Indy and they go 2-14…Cutler in Chi. and they lose their last 6.
If Boller were our guy we would’ve lost our last 6 too.
This is Palmers legacy yr. THIS is his chance to leave a mark.
It might be his last chance.

I believe Palmer has what it takes. The man got thrown to the wolves last year. He should have NEVER played in that KC game. A guy just a few days removed from the coach? What a joke for Hue to pander to the crowd like that.
If we throw out the first game, here is what Palmer averaged with basically a little over a week removed from the bouch to prepare and get into game shape:
293 yards – 62.2% Comp – 13 TDs – 13 INTs
We clearly need to see that INT number come down but throwing for nearly 3 bills a game with no minicamp and very little preparation? Wow.

My predictions for the season….
Palmer and DMAC get hurt, and Pryor is our starting quarterback by the end of the season.
September 4th, 2012 at 11:34 pm
Kirk.. what will our record be?? Im thinking 7-9.. hope im wrong and we win more.. last yr i called 8-8.. lol.. this team has too many ?????.. from owner to gm.. to head coach to asdistant coacges to players.. 7-9 is my prediction.. another losing season..
September 4th, 2012 at 11:41 pm
I don’t think it’s unfair to throw out the caveat of “if DMAC stays healthy” by the pundits cuz I have the same fear…and rightfully so.
If he and Palmer both stay healthy…and the defense improves to “average” …we WILL be good. Possibly very good.
September 4th, 2012 at 11:42 pm
The tight end.. and running back positions are not as good as last yr.. knapp doesnt give me a whole lot of confidence.. from what i saw in preseason.. we are in serious trouble as far as offebse goes.. rest assured ..san diego will stack the line to stop dmac and force the erratic palmer to pass the foorball to these unprocen wide receivers..
September 4th, 2012 at 11:43 pm

If not….6-10

the run game will be top notch (top 5). passing game will be better than expected (10-15). the defense will be much improved (10-15). i expect this team to compete with denver for the division. 10-6 or 11-5 is reasonable IF injuries don’t hit. i think san diego will be around .500 and kc will be around 6-10.

I expect this Raiders team to do the same thing they have done for the last 30 years to me. Keep me on the edge of my seat and make me happy, mad, frustrated, and generally rooting them on for better or worse. Anyone can be a fan, I love being a Raider….
September 5th, 2012 at 1:26 am
Oh look, a list of polarizing players. The ol’ PeePee List.
The Gut – Taking the wait and see approach. He hasn’t even reached his first regular season yet and he inherited a less than ideal cap situation and few draft picks. Way too early to bag on him.
Knapp – The offense has been as productive as we’ve seen for a while, the last two years. Knapp is on a short leash if he doesn’t bring it.
CP3 – Hated the trade when it happened. I’m friends with a Bengals fan and heard nothing but complaints about Palmer the his last few years there. I cringe every time I see him throw and absolutely hate his post-int face. I don’t trust him and don’t think he was worth what we paid even though he is the best QB in Oakland since Gannon. That being said, I am rooting for him 100%.
DMC – I am a supporter. I remember watching him play at ARK and my dad walking in as he made some spectacular play and said “Whoa, who’s that kid?” and I responded with “The guy the Raiders are going to draft in round 1.”
Goodson – He proved in Carolina he can be a good third string back that gets the occasional carry. I don’t want to kick him to the curb for nothing.
Taiwan – I added him to the list just because I am higher on him than most. He will be great.
DHB – How many top 10 picks can still be considered underdogs? I love that this guy is a Raider and hope he keeps improving.
DMo – He’s a big play guy. I hope he can keep the consistency up. We’ve had a big play rookie at WR for several years in a row now (Murph, Ford, DMo, Streater if he stays on track) but so far none have lived up to the expectations beyond that. I hope he can.
Ford – See “DMo”
Seymour – I see him as our 5th best D-Lineman right now. I expect Bryant to be starting by the end of the year. Seymour will still be a rotational player though. After this year he is probably gone no matter what.
Death Ro – Prepare for the worst, expect the best.
Missile Mike – I like him. He’s had some good moments and some bad moments. I think his contract is up after this year and from interviews he thinks he should be starting in the league. He’ll be gone next year baring drastic changes in his and Tyvon’s play.
Huffy – He’s an average safety. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him gone after this season. I just hope a replacement would be younger and at least as good.
Wheeler – People around the Raiders are high on him. Nobody else seems to know who he is. Wait and see approach.
September 5th, 2012 at 1:28 am
As for SD. I expect the D-Line to dominate. If that happens the Raiders should win rather easily, even if Streater is starting. It’s all about DMC and Shaughnassy in this one.

===========================
pretty much agreee with all this except for Knapp…I have a wait-and-see attitude about him…and I’m not a big fan of the ZBS in the red zone.

Knapp – I’m not a fan of the way he plays his game. I dont think Palmer is a roll out guy and I think if something goes wrong with the playcalling I believe Knapp will place blame on players. Dont like the Guy. TOTALLY AGREE. CAN’T ADJUST HIS THINKING AT ALL TO FIT HIS PLAYERS. IF THE ZBS WORKS HE’LL HAVE A GOOD RUNNING GAME. PASSING GAME HAS STRUGGLED UNDER HIM DESPITE GOOD PERSONNEL.
CP3 – I actually like Palmer. Is he aging? Yes he is. It does seem like he has lost zip on some of his ball and I think he tries to rely on the tough throw too much. TRUE, AND I THINK HE’LL HAVE TROUBLE WITH THE SCHEME, MEANING HE’LL THROW MORE INTERCEPTIONS, LOOK OUT OF SYNC AND NOT LOOK COMFORTABLE. HE’LL TAKE THE BLAME ON HIS OWN SHOULDERS, BUT I THINK IT COULD’VE BEEN A MONSTER YEAR IF WE UTILIZE THE PASSING-GAME OFFENSE WEAPONS (WRS/QB/FB) CORRECTLY. LIKE TOP 5 IN THE LEAGUE.
Goodson – I like the kid and I like the fire but he is a fumble machine. I think he has some big play ability but the positive of that gets taken away from the fumbles..I would have rather had Benson (Yea I said It) ME TOO. BENSON WOULD’VE BEEN BETTER FOR THE ROLL AND WOULD’VE HAD A BRUSER TO GO WITH THE OTHER TWO.
DHB – I broke my hand when we drafted him but he grew on me and now I’m a huge fan. NOT A HUGE FAN YET, BUT EACH YEAR SEE HIM IMPROVING WHICH WILL MAKE HIM A PRETTY SOLID WR FOR US THIS YEAR. CAN’T REALLY FAULT ANYONE WHO GETS BETTER YEAR AFTER YEAR.
DMo – The guy is Dynamite at times but the Injuries are killing me. Plus DMo has a reputation of having a poor attitude when things dont go his way and the Injuries could mess with his head(Volunteer Days). THIS GUY IS DYNAMITE PERIOD. AT LEAST I HOPE SO! LOL
Ford – I drive a CHEVY. I’M A BIT WORRIED FORD IS A BIT LIKE OTHER WRS WE HAVE DRAFTED LATELY (JLH, MURPHY ETC.) SEEMED LIKE HAD A LOT OF UPSIDE AND THEN REGRESSED FOR SOME REASON.
Seymour – You were very good at 1 time but you are aging and taking up alot of money. DAMNED EXPENSIVE. BETTER PLAYER THAN MOST OF THE GUYS IN THIS CHAT GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR. THAT BEING SAID, BY END OF YEAR, MIGHT BE OUR 3RD BEST D-LINEMAN IF KELLY KEEPS IT UP AND SHONASTY IS FULL-GO.
Wheeler – I like the guy. He will be big for us and Reggie Mac will extend his contract. I THINK THIS WAS THE BEST PICKUP OF THE OFFSEASON.
As it is probably known, out of all of the above I’m the biggest critic of Knapp. I think he’s unimaginative, and fixed. He doesn’t do what the best coaches do – find the best way to use the players they have.
Hue did it when he came here and turned the offense from a dud to a stud. Now our HC and DC are doing it with the defense, and you’ll see a vast improvement.
How can you get the players in positions they are comfortable with utilizing their strengths and minimzing their weaknesses. Put them in positions to make plays.
Just look at Reece as an example. He doesn’t fit what Knapp is trying to do so Knapp probably doesn’t even want him. Palmer looks more out of sync now than he did coming off the couch in his 2nd game for us after only getting Hues playbook for 10 days, no timing with his WRs etc. We know Palmer worked in the offseason with his top WRs sometimes to get his timing better, so it’s not that problem any more. It’s the new scheme.
Let’s hope our Running Game can keep us in games. That’s the strength of Knapp’s offenses in the past.

Hmmmmmm, on second thought…
Second-year CB Demarcus Van Dyke has reportedly been the “biggest surprise” of Raiders camp thus far.
Van Dyke held his own in four spot starts as a rookie, but it sounds like he’s taking his game to the next level in year two. Van Dyke is long and runs well, and he could end up pushing for penciled-in RCB Shawntae Spencer’s starting job. Aug 1 – 11:00 PM

As far as MNF, the lack of healthy WR’s is a huge concern but we should have a big edge in the trenches, our Lines should be able to control the game, we’ll need our hybrid players (Ausberry and Reece) to make some play and having 3 HB’s who can catch will help.
Screens, slants, wheel routes, the short passing game should be in full force in that game because we’ll need it.
I expect SD to sell out vs the run early and let Palmer try to beat them, maybe they expect a pick or two and while they may contain the run for a while at some point we’ll start breaking some big ones and then we can play-action and maybe come up with some big plays.
The Defense has to step up on MNF, keep the game close because it doesn’t seem like we’ll have the weapons to get into a aerial showdown with SD.
Norv gets a lot of crap but he’s one of the best when it comes to designing an offensive game-plan, Branch vs Gates is a key match-up.

September 5th, 2012 at 6:37 am
Had to look at last year’s Norv vs DA matchups, in week 5 SD put up 29 points and 418 yards on Denver’s D (SD 29-Den 24)…different story in week 12 as SD still gained a respectable 344 yards but put up just 13 points (Den 16-SD 13, OT).
Different teams this year but you’d have to give one to Norv and one to DA.

+++++++++++++++++++
When DA was hired, it was noted his defenses usually give up a ton of yards because he tends to stress aggression and encourages the DBs to gamble on INTs, etc.
Lotta “bend, don’t break” in Allen’s philosophy it seems.

Bob Marley,
Nice setup for Monday Night’s game. This sets up as a field position battle with time of possession being valuable as well as limiting costly mistakes, turnovers, penalties. If we can do that, given the home field advantage and menacing defense that I expect will hound Rivers, we should get off to a slim lead that we can milk to victory. Shortening the game will be key to victory.

Interesting to read Chimdi Chekwa’s comments about having to re-learn a new scheme from last year and it kind of pointed to the reason he’s on the PS trying to get back up to speed. This may be a telling signal why DVD is no longer on the team. That and Chekwa still being PS eligible. DA and Tarver’s scheme is weeding out the project players, and it’s scheme over size/speed/length physicality. The org has truly turned a new page.

No doubt about it.
That’s why no one picked him up off waivers.
DVD is way too weak.
Before camp started I actually thought DVD had a chance to start opposite Bartell.
Saw him in coverage a few times and was shocked how bad he looked.
Then, after seeing him miss tackles and get swatted like a fly, I was convinced he couldn’t even make the team.
IMO, DVD was the easiest cut on the team. Was shocked he made it until the final 53 cutdown.
Feel similarly about Goodson.
If Michelle can hold on to the rock, bring her in for a look. What’s her 40 time ?

Branch vs a healthy Gates and Spencer vs Floyd outside should be key match-ups, that lanky bastard (6′5)owned Lito Sheppard in week 17 last year, but Spencer is a much bigger guy (6′1) and not running on fumes like Lito, on the other side I expect Bartell to rough up Meachem and keep him from making big-plays, Joselio Hnason vs Eddie Royal is close, but Royal may not even play.

If there’s anything positive to be said about Knapp’s conservatism, it’s that it might help Carson Palmer avoid transforming into TIM Palmer.
September 5th, 2012 at 7:07 am
Then again, the DL should be all over Rivers but he should get a few shots downfield, there should be some Int’s in this game, hopefully from Rivers and not CP.

September 5th, 2012 at 7:12 am
Love how those matchups play out Marley. The only concern I have is Spencer on Floyd. But if the D-line crushes the pocket the way I expect, you can erase all of Rivers downfield weapons and turn him into a checkdown machine quickly. No Mathews on Monday is a huge problem for SD, and Ronnie Brown can be closed on quickly in the flat. We got them if we only play disciplined ball.

RAIDERMAN.
Knapp sticking with the run and the short passing game helps the OL wear out SD’s Defense (provided we can pickup 1st downs) and dominating TOP helps out the Defense, not giving the ball away will be huge as you pointed out
We won’t have the horses outside to get into a shootout, not that it was Knapp’s plan anyway but this is one game where we can dominate the trenches and not have Knapp’s conservative calls be much of a detriment, I hope.

Don’t want to piss in the Kool-aid but…
While I’m as excited and hopeful as anyone that the D appears to have made great strides, I’m far from convinced that it actually has.
Little bit concerned that Tarver might have been the opposite of Knapp in the pre-season, in the respect that he didn’t hold back and had the D throwing stuff at opposing offenses that are usually reserved for the regular season.
Might get some different results with Norv game planning for Tarver’s D. We got a hint of that in the Seagull game. There were some disturbingly easy completions made by Wilson that game.
Let’s not forget that SD didn’t have to even punt one time in our last meeting.
Talk about terrorizing Rivers might be a bit premature, even though on paper the Raids seem to have some very favorable matchups working in their favor.

Somehow I doubt that. The Bucs D is putrid and they will be playing catchup all year long. That and they lost starting tackle Davin Joseph to IR and the line is patchwork now despite the signing of Saints guard Nicks. I’ll at least offer some hope to Martin in PPR leagues, but I’m in the camp that sees him as overvalued. Not that it matters, but I live in Tampa and hear all the rah rah stuff, and still am not convinced in this team.

yep, and it’s considered “old school”, but in your position I’d go RB-RB in the first two rounds. Target your QB Stafford or Ryan in rounds 3/4. If not there when you pick, then scoop up all the good WR’s like Cruz, Jordy Nelson, Nicks, Harvin and wait for Eli/Vick in the 5th/6th. But get the two workhorse backs first before anything.

I have MJD and think he’ll take a couple of weeks to get back to the primary back. His HC already said he’d only be a 3rd down back for now. But Ingram’s not a good back to start either with Sproles and Thomas getting most of the touches. I don’t know what to tell you.

________
This guy gets it we gave up on DVD too fast

I don’t feel silly about disagreeing with marley who has some really well thought out posts. The crux of my counter-argument is that the context of grading DVD is under the pretense of evaluating his play under the scheme of failed and fired defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan. Now under this new scheme that requires less man to man and more zone, masked coverages, etc. they evaluated him and he failed to perform to their satisfaction. It may be that DVD would have been just fine and maybe even a starter under the old defensive scheme. But it’s a new day and a new regime and he wasn’t a system fit. And then add to that he even if he was a system fit, he wasn’t a slam dunk fit even in the old scheme and added NADA on special teams.
I for one respect the REGGIME’s decision to cast out DVD to the sodomites.

Clearly this wasn’t a cost cutting move and any NFL team out there would be intrigued to sign him wouldn’t wait till week 2 to sign him. There’s just not much cheaper you can get him for anyways.
Consensus opinion is that he’s not NFL worthy. It’s not some sort of conspiracy. The eye in the sky don’t lie.

Source: http://www.hergamelife.com/2012/09/tampa-bay-bucs-make-cuts-including-tiquan-underwood/
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made their final roster cuts Friday. Most of the cuts were expected but some were very shocking. The one that caught me off guard, and got me very upset was Tiquan Underwood.
Related: Despite Injuries to Key Players, Buccaneers are Looking Up Again
Underwood was a break-out star, in my eyes, in training camp and in preseason games. The guy tried his hardest, and made an impression on most people that saw him play. He never dropped balls and made plays that most other receivers did not complete in camp. He caught nine passes for 158 yards during exhibition play.

People still defending DVD? My gut feeling is people are defending Al D. If Al never overreached for DVD in the 3rd round, the kid would have been an UFA invite.
As for last year, dont rewrite history. There were many people in here including that was pointing out DVD’s flaws on game day. He was so bad he got BENCHED in favor of a veteran that was at home during the season. How many times did we see DVD run full speed and can’t turn around to make a play last season?
You’re talkign about a kid that got benched in college. Got benched in the pros and now you’re telling us we’re dumb for hating on that kid.
Apparently RM and DA (2 highly respected football pros in the league) seem to think us haters were right.

Here you go:
Free agent WR Jabar Gaffney visited the Raiders on Wednesday.
The visit comes after Gaffney worked out for the Dolphins on Monday. Gaffney hasn’t missed a game since 2006, and would provide veteran, durable insurance for a Raiders’ receiver corps lacking both veteran and durable wideouts. Related: Raiders
September 5th, 2012 at 11:18 am
Is there any way that Reggie could sign one or both of those WR’s without it being a guaranteed deal for the year? Eventually we are going to be back full strength and someone will have to go. Maybe he waits to sign them after Monday night?

No panic here. DHB will be doubled. Streater is going to torch da dischargers!
The O-line is a beast w/ Wiz in there. DMAC runs wild, kind of like the Jets game.

One more Underwood note. He’s the guy that got cut by Belichick the day before the Super Bowl. Ouch!

As for stats on DVD? It wasnt too long ago that stats said Stanford Routt had the lowest completion % against him in 2010. Many on here touted those stats were even better or as good as Revis. I doubt if the same people still think Routt was or is as good as Revis.
_______
Actually I’m intrigued to see how Routt performs this season in his version of a “real defense”. And as for Revis he benefits from pressure that the jets D provides for him on a regular. If Revis was on a team with a lack luster pass rush would he be as good in coverage? Don’t know.

If Aso21 plays for the jets pitt or ravens he is easily top db in the league. Don’t know that Revis could keep his status if he played on some of our past Raider D’s like Aso21.
