Hagan says he signed with Raiders

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, September 5th, 2012 at 10:28 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Former Raiders wide receiver Derek Hagan sent out a Tweet that said he has re-signed with the Raiders. If so, the Raiders aren’t saying.
The Raiders wouldn’t confirm nor deny Hagan’s breaking news. Hagan spent the past year or so with the Buffalo Bills after he was released by the Raiders.
The signing would make sense, naturally, given three of the five receivers on the Raiders 53-man roster are injured right now and the team’s first game is Monday night.

    Chargers 27. Raiders 20.

Still a fan though but they’re better at te, wr, qb, lb, and overall D. We’re better at rb and the rest is a wash.

Cowboys better tonite than I thought they were.

Yeah I know, but the Giants looked lifeless…no spunk or fire…or energy.

Cowboys wanted revenge and Giants are all content with their SB and thought they could mail it in.
    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Huh??? What game were you watching? This game had nothing to do with the Giants lacking “spunk” or “fire”. The Dallas D was outstanding. The $50 million they spent on Carr looks like a bargain. Claiborne didn’t look too bad either. Amazing how those two players make this a whole new D. On the flip side, Romo and his receivers made mincemeat out of NY’s garbage corners. Better team won, period.

  5. Goldie7 Says:

Great! Welcome back Hagan! The Raiders should not have waived you last season. Nevertheless…I’m thrilled you’re back. Thanks for thee updste…Mr. Cork! Good looking out.

We split with the Tijuana Light Sockets last year, we went 3-3 on our Division. You should win your home division games. Raiders 24, TJ 13.

Except we don’t. We kick the sht out of our division on the road though. Undefeated on the road against the division the last two years.

  9. Goldie7 Says:

IMO…The Cowboys have a great DC….their D was phenomenal against the Giants.

Don’t think so Alex. I say Raiders 27, SD 20. Without Vincent Jackson, and our D line that will shut down their run game, and harassment of Rivers, I feel we’ll win.

    Anyway, we’ll see.

Who did we let go to pick up Hagen should be the question!

  16. backstageatapuppetshow Says:

Easy….should be Seymour…but we don’t have the balls to cut a captain days before game 1…

    Probably will be Coye Francies…

    If it’s even true….

  17. Thec Says:

Pickup makes a ton of sense on several levels.

    Criner, DMO, JFORD all hurt.

We only had 2 healthy WR’s DHB, and Streat.

I do expect Criner, and DMO to play.

I hope with the 2 practices, plus “007 time” that DHAGAN, can get up to speed.

  18. Pirate Arrrggghhhh Says:

Ad hackers easy to believe; Phony Raider signing for not a household name WR, not so much.

  21. Intrepid Says:

Plus his sister tweeted that they were coming back out west.

  22. backstageatapuppetshow Says:

The thing is…if it is true….they will probably keep him til Moore and Ford are healthy…

and if we cut Francies…we would only have 1 corner Pat Lee to backup Spencer and Bartel if suddenly injured….since Joselio plays inside….

    Might be a LB’er…

As I said….if it’s even true….I’m cutting the waste of space RICHARD SEYMOUR….he isn’t going to make any plays this season anyways….

    3:)

  23. Intrepid Says:

So, all in all, I’m buying it.

  24. RaidersOne Says:

Seymour will play out the season unless he is injured, then will placed on IR, given an injury settlement and released.

I don’t expect that to happen. Hopefully there is something left in the tank and he is effective. They’ll get there money out of him this season. For sure!

    Code Black 2012!

  30. realtruraider Says:

Yeah its probably legit, but I wouldn’t put it past some fan, he might not be a household name most places, but he sure is around Raider fans, there was a damn near mutiny when we cut him last year, plus I have read on several Raider fan sites today people mentioning his name, because it has ben reported that we are looking at WRs

i bet we’ll be fine. it is only week 1. i’d rather end strong and start crappy like the NYG did last year! 9-7 wins the SB. anything is possible now! they got all their players healthy WHEN IT MATTERED at the end. they just kept their head above water throughout. remains to be seen if we can tread water without our stars in play!
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I do too.I just can’t help but remember all the baseball teams that said ‘if we could have only won a couple more at the beginning’.1-0 rips…0-1 means it has become a fourteen game season.9-7 is putrid….so were the gigantes…..cept when it mattered.Kind of dilutes the entire game when those losers make the playoffs and GB goes 15-1.

  33. MiamiRaider78 Says:

I can see Tarver blitzing the hell out of the left side of the Chargirls offensive line, especially with an undrafted rookie going up against Shaugnessy.

    Negatives:

Below-average athletic ability and bend. Carries his hands low and exhibits a rowing motion in his pass set. Limited contact balance and body control. Inconsistent positioning and sustain. Unsudden to adjust and shift his weight. Not a power player. Struggles connecting with a moving target.

Love the rowing motion part. lol

  42. Twinkle Says:

Not too worry…we didn’t bring em in to cut em for a WR at this late stage. If we bring in a WR we are talking band aid on bullet wound with four day’s to go.

  44. Chris in NY Says:

Good signing. I thought Hagan played well here last year both as a WR and on specials.

Anyone who’s a regular on this blog prob knows I’m a big HuJax supporter, but cutting Hagan for Housh was a move that made no sense to me at the time and less in retrospect.

Hagan’s a good, vet addition who can catch passes and serve important ST positions while hopefully being a good leader for our young WR corps.

  45. J-Raider Says:

dang.. i was hoping we would sign gaffney.. hagan isnt as good imo. gaffney put up good numbers last year with a chit qb in washington.

  46. Dhidee99 Says:

If Hagan is so good why is he now just finding a team?

  47. J-Raider Says:

hagan had a couple good pre-season games last year, dont know why you guys say he played well all of last year.. no where near what gaffney did.

  49. J-Raider Says:

oh well, guess we have to settle with a mediocre wr. gaffney would have been the guy to make a difference in our wr crew, hagan wont even get 30 catches this year.. :(

  50. J-Raider Says:

i hope we sign gaffney, as well as, hagan.. then i will be really happy. until then, im not happy :(

Twinkle, Did you see what Seymore did to big Ben last year? Got him kicked out the game, Wait what about how he preformed against the pats last year I swear he lost his cool on purpose for what? or all the injuries lately he is one of the highest paid players not just on our team but in our Division and his proformance does not match the pay!

  52. J-Raider Says:

seymour will be a positive this year guys.. did you not read what our punter had to say about what it was like to play under al davis? it was aggrivating to not know what was going on in your own team.. players didnt like how everything was so secret, and it was a distraction. now that time is over, and the leaders on this roster will show everyone what they can do with a clear/sound mind on the field..

About to go to sleep and checked one last time…..

    A clue?

Is he a Hall of Famer? Probably…

He was named a captain cause if he wasn’t then he would really turn it in….he is robbing this organization…..

If he was a leader he would suit up for practice…..if he was a leader he would take a pay cut….

His last play on the field he was blown back into the end zone against the Cardinals for a TD….they ran directly at him….

How did he respond….he took 2 weeks off…and practiced this week and thinks he can just turn on the switch….

Guess WHAT? He CAN’t turn the switch….

We are allowing the mans ego to dictate to us what he will and will not do….

You get a clue twinkle….and next time I call Seymour out….call me out right away…don’t wait til you think I’ve let the room….

  65. J-Raider Says:

topic? how about the fact that you cant seem to understand how an organization works.. im sorry but no matter how much you think you know about richard seymour’s situation behind closed doors, there is NO way he is running the show like you claim he is.

  66. backstageatapuppetshow Says:

The man doesn’t practice and yet gets to play….

What other player does our Head Coach have to answer questions for regarding his practice attendance?

Tommy Kelly is only a year younger…he seems to have no trouble making it to practice…

Richard is PAID to be a BEAST….

    Trouble is…he isn’t a BEAST….3rd best Tackle on the TEAM behind #93 and #90….

  67. J-Raider Says:

plain and simple, the guy is well respected because he is a pro.. thats all there is to it. he is on this team to show our young bucs how to do it, and i think he is doing a fantastic job. even espn is giving our d-line some love, saying we have the best d-line in the afc west.. no doubt because seymour is bringing out the best in tk and showing bryant and houston how to take out the qb..

  68. J-Raider Says:

he is the leader of our d-line and its paying off, there is no denying it. and for your information, we pay players to play on sunday, if he doesnt practice, thats actually helping out the guy behind him to get valuable reps every day.. how is that hurting the team? tell me..

  69. J-Raider Says:

    oh and i mean what i say… he is a BEAST :) :) :) :)

  70. backstageatapuppetshow Says:

Who cares what ESPN has to say regarding the TOPIC….

Shouldn’t your own opinion on the subject be enough that you don’t have to validate it with other “PAID” viewpoints?

Your argument is weakened by the fact that you have to drag what ESPN says….

Seymour is not respected anymore….he was voted to the PRO BOWL last season because the NFL likes to keep us down….they like to over value our over paid players like Nhamdi as a way of patronizing us….they have been using the media this way for years….

Develop your own opinion the next time you call me out….

  71. J-Raider Says:

Sooner or later this season a youngster will outshine Seymour and McClain and hopefully they’ll be released.

  73. J-Raider Says:

ummm i simply added that to validate what is obvious.. and my opinion is my own, nobody elses.. im still waiting for an answer to my question…..

Rich bagger give me a halfway decent alternative. And don’t bring the money into it as Seymour has restructured the contract that Mr Davis gave him to help out.I’m all good for the vets not practicing…this game is brutal and why risk injury to one of our precious few player’s with a clue?I repeat As Rich goes so does our defense.

Sooner or later this season a youngster will outshine Seymour and McClain and hopefully they’ll be released.
    ————————–
back to my original argument.. how is releasing these guys helping our team??? we still have to pay them and they are better options than our back-ups.. so again, tell me how they are hurting this team????????
    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Both are literally worthless, especially McClain. I would retain Seymour for this season only to recover some of his salary. But McClain I would kick him to the curb and hope he gets state penn time in Alabama.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
And you are replacing Seymour with…? Oh right you have no fuking clue. Here I have an idea…STFU.

And for Nnamdi, he is the biggest fraud and highest paid, “no shut down, shut down corner” in the history of the game. All riding on a reputation of 11 INT’s in 9 seasons! Big deal: Gio got 5 just last season; why isn’t he making $15M/year.
    ——————-
Nope. It is based on WRs not being able to get much done against him.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Reiterating fool….STFU…. you are clueless.Aso is
the best CB in the league barring Revis. You see Philly
getting rid of him any time soon…let us know…we’d
take him in a NY second if we had the dough.

2nd in NFL with INTs with 6….2 for TD’s

Toss up for NFL’s 2nd best corner….but it ain’t Nhamdi

In all reality…if I was DA, I would only let him play 20 snaps a game….on big downs….short yardage and on 3rd down passing situations….

Regarding Nhamdi….I don’t miss him on the field…I said he was over rated when we had him….and I stand by it….off the field there was no finer human being….a class act…

However…if he was truly loyal to the man who gave him a shot…(AL DAVIS)…he never would have left…in spite of the contract clause which allowed him to get away…

This offseason, he was running with the 1st team in Buffalo for a good chunk of training camp. Then he’s cut. Puzzling how he never ends up in a team’s long term plans. He plays special teams. He runs good routes. He can get YAC. What gives?

Opening nights are the biggest buzzkill in all of sports.

You want to be excited because it is starting, than you soon realize the play is nothing like it will be at the end of the season, and the games are usually fairly boring.

  170. R8drinOK Says:

Well all the cowboy fans are talking Super Bowl already in this part of the country…can’t stand dallas fans. That definitely did not look like a Rob Ryan D last night!

  171. guest123 Says:

I’m not a big fan of signing Hagan. Sure we all remember when he tore it up in preseason last year with Glo at QB, but that was a long time ago. The fact that he could not stick to the Bills roster even as their last receiver is a huge red flag. Consider that group of receivers: Stevie Johnson, David Nelson, Donald Jones, Brad Smith, Martin Ruvell, and TJ Graham. Not a particularly strong group with only 3 WR’s that have any significant NFL receiving statistics. Thing that bothers me the most is his guaranteed salary for playing in week one. If there was any receiver who I’d not mind paying guaranteed money, it would be for Jabbar Gaffney who had comparable receiving stats as DHB last year. That’s proven production. There’s a lot of Hagan ball washers out there and it’s apparent that he’s a “fan favorite”. But I’m sorry but I don’t get the love. I hope the report that we signed him is inaccurate or premature.

  175. Just Fire Baby Says:

Hagan was a gunner at times last year on punts as well, and once lead the Giants in ST tackles for a year, and was among the NFL leaders.

The goal is for him to play a LITTLE WR to start the year until the other guys are healthy, and provide emergency relief if they never do, mixed with productivity as a teams guy.

    Good Morning Tx,

We have a lot of WR signing rumors that should be resolved today! Like Hagan but Gaffney sounded like the better option. Maybe Reggie is saving $$ for a RB later?

  179. guest123 Says:

Hagan isn’t the red zone receiver we need right now. I hate to say it, but Plex is that guy. Even Gaffney can sky the baseline and toe tap the goal line passes. Even if we add Hagan, we still don’t have a reciever Carson can throw to on third and goal from the 6 yard line. If we had a decent receiving tight end, that would help everyone else out down low, but we don’t so we are probably stuck with kicking a lot of 28 yard FG’s.

Wasn’t the catch where Ford hurt his foot a non-contact injury as he was going out of bounds. Maybe he was pushed but if a simple catch is enough to reaggravate the same foot in the same area as the injury from last year, it’s a really bad sign. Structurally, he’s very fragile. And though he may have the hops and skills receiving, if he is going to be out multiple weeks at a time every time he catches a ball or steps on it awkwardly, it’s time to cut bait like we did Schilens. It’s tough to play the waiting game this close to the season opener for fragile dudes.

Here’s how it’s gonna break down:

Raiders come roaring out of the gate. 7-0. Then an unexpected loss to the Bucs throws them into a tailspin…they lose 2 more in a row to Baltimore and New Orleans. Now 7-3. We’re all terrified another collapse is coming, maybe the worst one ever.

Then Palmer takes us into Cincinnati & throws for 450 yards & 6 TDs in his revenge game. We lose 1 more to Carolina in fluke fashion and finish up 12-4 and a 1st round bye.

Meanwhile because Cam Newton beat us, mistic can argue Newton is the better QB even though Palmer guided us to 12-4.

    Not only them…
on Dallas’ last TD drive…JPP, Rocky Bernard, they were all complaining about being held….one was right in front of a ref…no calls!
I guess that would benefit us :)

Taiwan doesn’t have the fumbling issues of Goodson. Fumbling issues are unforgivable, and really surprised he’s still occupying a roster spot at this point.

Wiser words were never spoken in football:

“Gentlemen, it is better to have died a small boy than to fumble this football”. John Heisman (American Football Player, 1869-1936)

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Great quote! If Goodson gets any carries on Monday, hope he runs with both arms wrapped around the ball.

  253. guest123 Says:

I like that the replacement refs “let em play” and swallow the whistles. This game has been wussified enough with non-calls being flags all the time. I even don’t agree with Romo’s roughing penalty. Looked to me that the rusher chucked him to ground around the upper torso with no helmet to helmet contact.

With Seymour, the fact that it’s almost split down the middle with Raider fans who watch the games as to whether he’s a ’stud’ or making a big impact shows that he’s really not.

He’s not ‘bad’ in any sense..imo, but if we even have to debate whether he IS making an impact than he must not be.

IMPACT players are obvious. You don’t have to think about it…you know.

He was huge against KC on the road last yr. by blocking those fg’s..without those we lose…But…I don’t remember any other games where he stood out as THE GUY.

He’s at the point where he seems to do an adequate job…but never really stands out.

How many did Reece get?…….LIKE ONE? That dude IS our Weapon X. He’s going to be a vital part of our Offense.

Palmer had a few picks that could be argued weren’t his fault. I mean, the coin lands on both sides man. You catch breaks in every game, sometimes the brakes are against you. He handled the pressure well against AZ, he was under duress ALOT, and he got the ball out and evaded the pressure well enough for me.

How many points did our first line Defense give up? 16-19 in four games? What about sacks? 2-3 maybe.

I agree, ST was aweful; even for not having the roster set. Remember when ST was our best phase? When THAT was what kept us in the game? Big returns for TD’s, forced fumbles galore; even though we’d recover a fumble at the 15 and get a feild goal outta the deal. something about wearing the Silver and Black also…..Seems to make return men just cough up the football. I swear to Gawd, I’ve never seen another team fumble SOOO consistantly on KR and PR. Anymore, I see a guy catch the kick and run into the wedge and I’m like

Al loved to talk up his old crusty fellow owners.

What’s good man? Nice post man, I’d agree they’re going to be better all around. Still have to work out the ST kinks, but at least they have ample time to fix the issues. I’m looking for the Raiders to kick some dolts azz and win by double digits!

    ==================

Yeah Tx, been rediculous busy here. I post at work when I get time. Lately when I get a chance, I come in here and it’s alot of Crank Waiving and I leave.

Anymore, I see a guy catch the kick and run into the wedge and I’m like
“Alright, put TWO hands on it, don’t……”
    BALL-OUT ……”GAWD DAMNIT ! ! !”

    —————————-
LOL No kidding, I’m convinced that the issues on ST have to do with Fassel leaving the team, dude was a very good coach. However, I’ll wish this new guy the best since he won’t have 4th stringers out there in real games. I’m happy the signed Hagan, wish we had an upgrade over Goodson though.

Al pretty much outlived all his contemporaries. The most notable was George Steinbrenner who shared the same birthday. I think after that Al knew that death was knocking at the door soon.

Yeah, if the Hagan deal turns out to be official, I’ll be real happy about that. Shoot, I was happy last year at the prospect of him in our Corps for the year. Totally blindsided by the cut as most of us were.

Fassel did good enough to keep me happy, I kept comparing him to Schnieder though and was scrutinous of Fassel. NOW, I miss the guy. Gotta roll with what we got though. The bar is locked down, we’re on the coaster now and gonna ride it till it’s over. Let the season begin and leave everything out on the field. Time to unleash the SAVAGE

Interesting that Buffalo was looking at Hagan as their #2 starting wideout as late as one month ago.

“Coach Chan Gailey indicated that WR Derek Hagan is “working his tail off” and “pushing hard to be a big part of this offense.”Hagan has picked up where he left off in last year’s season finale (7 receptions, 89 yards), impressing since camp opened while earning Ryan Fitzpatrick’s trust. Rotoworld gives the early edge to Hagan in the battle with Donald Jones, Marcus Easley and T.J. Graham for snaps opposite Stevie Johnson.” There’s sleeper appeal here in deep leagues. Buffalo’s loss… our gain. We needed a red zone guy and Hagan fits the bill.
