End 3rd qtr: Chargers 16, Raiders 6
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, September 10th, 2012 at 9:46 pm in Oakland Raiders.
With the Raiders dealing with a special teams disaster (Travis Goethel subbing for long-snapper Jon Condo) and the offense reduced to short attempts from Carson Palmer to Darren McFadden, boos were beginning to rain down on the Oakland offense as the third quarter expired.

September 10th, 2012 at 9:48 pm
Like I said, defense is all that’s keeping this from being a blowout.
September 10th, 2012 at 9:48 pm
Thats incorrect. We are NOT trying to push it down field. These are designed plays to go short! This game is breaking down from the offense! D is now on the field way too much. STs is punting in our endzone. Its all connected. The offense is the root problem. Period.
September 10th, 2012 at 9:48 pm

Chargers are up 31-3.
This year? It’s a 2 score game, almost whole quarter to play.

That’s why we love our Raiders, good for one quarter, then droop and fade away late. Great game planning and play calling folks for one quarter, I’m sure you’re still thinking playoffs. Playoffs?!
September 10th, 2012 at 9:51 pm
Reece is now a spectator. Hue had this guy featured last year (and GOING DEEP!!). I don’t know what going on with DHB. He’s mostly blocking. All the plays are short. I don’t think we have a play over 15yds. Maybe 1! Last year, we had plenty in chucks!
This is all the offense not producing, because of the plays being called by the OC. And the system that is not taking advantage of its players.

That’s pretty much the game. But our defense is hugely improved. They kept us in this thing when it should have been an SD blowout by half time, the way our offense is playing. Huge concerns on offense. Maybe Knapp was a bad idea.
September 10th, 2012 at 10:03 pm
You guys not looking at the Offense today are really missing what I see as obvious faults. I understand that we are missing key players, but it still has to be better than this.
Reece is getting no play this game. Just blocking. Find a way to get DHB the fall! End arounds, quick hits, something! What happened to the multiple screens by DMC, Reece, Bush (now Tiawan)? All and all, its the OC.
And I don’t think DMC likes ZBS. He’s getting frustrated. And he’s not running as hard. He’s going out or down easier because he knows they are overworking him (I think).

JFB, the offense is a no-show in the 2nd half. Huge concern. Could be Knapp.
September 10th, 2012 at 10:06 pm
The WC offense is a bad fit for Carson Palmer.
Gotta give the offense a chance with Wiz and D-Wow, when he gets back.
Hue used Reece like he should. Knapp so far is not as creative as Hue was….
September 10th, 2012 at 10:06 pm

September 10th, 2012 at 10:07 pm

September 10th, 2012 at 10:07 pm
So Raiders basically turned the ball over 4 times with no INTs. Tawain Jones lost 20 yards because of fumble. Palmer and defense are not the problems.

Player Drafted At Linebacker To Start At Realtor

OAKLAND, CA—The Raiders organization welcomed sixth-round draft choice Travis Goethel Wednesday and said the Arizona State linebacker would more than likely be asked to start as a Bay-area Realtor by the beginning of next season. “We believe that the intelligence, instinct, and leadership Travis displayed on the college gridiron will be of immense help to him as he assists his clients in finding quality housing in the greater Oakland region,” a press release from the Raiders read in part. “While he was a standout college linebacker, we believe he will adjust quickly to his new position once he realizes his future is in real estate.” Goethel claimed to be satisfied with the team’s decision, saying it was far better than being asked to switch to car dealer, casino greeter, or long snapper.

ACtually our division kicked our azz last year, outscored us in the 6 games.
The 2010 team, yup they kicked azz. Too bad we got rid of that HC
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ummmm, we didn’t get rid of him. That was Hue’s team.
September 10th, 2012 at 10:22 pm

September 10th, 2012 at 10:22 pm

That’s a losers mentality. right there is where this game went south when our HC showed no balls.
September 10th, 2012 at 10:22 pm
Raiders suck !!! CP3 is a lead footed idiot. I laugh at you jerks thinking the Raiders will ever beat the Broncos and Manning. Fire CP3 idiot tomorrow ??
A few weeks ago I mentioned here that the 49′ers would beat the Raiders time and again and was practically driven off the blog. For all of you who attacked me: F off. The 9′ers will beat this crappy team and the moron Knapp 100 out of 100 times.

I’m holding him to the task of finding the best way to use the weapons we have to score the most points.
Not sticking to the same thing no matter the personnel, or the situation, or the defense we’re playing against.

BTW,who would rather see Palmer playing like a gunslinger, throwing an occasional int but putting points on the board?
====================================================
Gotta have receivers get a little separation….the problem tonight was not converting on those 3rd and short situations.
I reserve judgement until the mid-point.

September 10th, 2012 at 10:24 pm
Just as I pictured this…Knapp should not even be allowed on an NFL sideline. It is more than just not having Moore & Ford. Knapp is the most horrible coach I have ever witnessed, aside from Art Shell’s hire of Tom Walsh as OC. I said from the beggining better defense, but poor offense.
Are You kidding me?!!%^$#@%^&! This freakin wierdo hasn’t even installed a NO HUDDLE OFFENSE!!!???
September 10th, 2012 at 10:24 pm
You all might not see it or care too.
But Streeter and Hagan in a possession receiver role will work wonders in the middle on third downs when MOore is healthy.

Knapp is doing everything he can to make up for the bad punt snaps. We’re still in this. Hate on that.

The most meaningless stat line of the week. Give me Mike Vicks’ from yesterday all day long.

Come on, Man. Vick was absolutely horrendous yesterday. If it wasn’t for Cleveland throwing four INTs the Eagles would’ve got trounced by arguably the worst team in the league. I know it’s your thing to defend certain QBs, but let’s be serious.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
My point had nothing to do with how he played yesterday. Of course he was horrendous. But at the end of the day, he won the game. All I’m saying.

Game ball goes to Kelly for keeping drives alive with 2 offsides that led to a SD TD , Streater for fumbling on our first drive on which we were rolling , an dropping key passes ..including one near 5 yard line before halftime … Reece and Taiwan for messing up that reverse on a pretty good drive that killed The drive … Travis goethel gets the game ball too along with some stupid 3 and shorts that were inches short from first down

Run D was tight against scrub RBs. Palmer didn’t make any horrible mistakes. WRs dropped a few they should have caught and apparently John Condo is the most essential player on our team. Considering the ST clusterphuck, the fact we only lost by a TD says more about San Diego than it does the Raiders.

This small ball play aint going to get it done in todays NFL, why wait until the last drive to open it up a lil bit? Just a horrible gameplan form the offense, Defense looks legit, it could of ben alot worse, but the D stepped up and did there part
September 10th, 2012 at 10:39 pm
Wasn’t happy with some of the playcalling, but there was plenty of poor execution that put the Raiders in a no-win situation playcalling wise.
Streater had 4 receptions on 10 targets. Three or four flat-out drops on what would have been first downs. And while you have to appreciate the effort to get extra yardage, but that fumble was a backbreaker after a strong first offensive possession.
Taiwan Jones’ butterfingers put the Raiders in a huge early hole, too.

Playcalling-wise, the Raiders needed to exploit the fact that the Chargers were stacking the box. The early playcalling set up an opportunity for the Raiders to take some shots, and those shots simply never came.
The one nice deep ball to Streater ended up being a drop.

I’m almost certain with Hue DMC would’ve been over 5ypc, Reece would’ve had a lot of touches (carries and catches), and we would have been on the board much earlier.
A measily 2 yards per carry. Pathetic!

September 10th, 2012 at 10:56 pm
It’s easy to blame this on losing the LS in the game. And those who say fire Condo were quickly silenced tonight, anyway…
BUT…the fact of the matter is that we put the punt unit on the field four straight times in the 2nd half. Not going to win these games too often when you do that…thank the supernovas that the defense even kept it within reach. Offense left something to be desired, but wasn’t Cleveland Browns bad. Clean it up, we’re hanging in this game, and have a good chance of winning. Not completely disheartened, but the excuses aren’t exactly build in.
Love the D for the most part, and I can forgive TK for the first offsides-jumping the snap was the only way to win that 3 and 1. It was our mistakes that lost us the game…but not as disheartening as in the past.

Many wanted DA and Reggie to change the Image of the Raiders. The Image changed to another way to screw up. Many people that claimed the Raiders needed a image change are not Raider supporters and can care less about the Raiders. Reggie and DA better clean things up fast. Do not give me I believe in Reegie stuff until he proves it. As I have been saying for the longest this system that DA & Knapp want to run you must have a tightend to break contain and make the the defense pay for covering a cut back run and they have not addressed that by pushing to get the best out of there tightend up until now. Guess what it showed up horribly tonight. The blocking scheme and the run is laughable and the Defense are not even concerned with it. This can be a extra long year if the leaders do not adjust to what worked last year and make some changes.
September 10th, 2012 at 10:59 pm
The Lane Kiffin 2.0 era has begun! The only difference is that Kiffin 1.0 actually had Cable to teach the zone blocking scheme. Next week will actually be a good test for the Raiders Offense. The Fin’s played the Texans this week and had all that time to prepare for the exact same offense that they will see with the Raiders. Reggie better be on the phone right now with Alex Gibbs so he can save this O-Line. Also, great idea not to give Goethel any reps during the preseason as long snapper. Because Condo really needed the reps with a punter that had no shot at making the team. DA better spend a LOT of time with that offense. Marcel Reese got one carry and was targeted twice? WTF??

September 10th, 2012 at 11:01 pm
I still won my ff with Moore out and no receiver in his place. WOOT
September 10th, 2012 at 11:01 pm
Tonight’s game told us a few things.
1.- What we all feared from Knapps offense became a reality. Carson has nothing to do with this, the problem is when you call plays designed to gain 3 to 4 yards when you are 3rd and long. McFadden is a beast, but when you call his number over and over and over again the D will soon be on him like white on rice. I am afraid that if this keeps up he will get injured by game 3 and then we will really be up a creek.
2.- The D is greatly improved. Can you believe our run D? That was nice to see. Burris played lights out I thought. However, I do see some issues with our passing D. I mentioned during the offseason that this could be an ongoing problem into the season and I think it is. Hopefully it gets corrected.
3.- Penalties. Kelly’s were the two of most impact in my opinion. It is the first game, so I will hold off on judgement on this matter. But it needs to get addressed.
4.- Special Teams. Something else I mentioned in the preseason. It was horrible then, and it is horrible now. Granted we lost Condo, still, that only made things go beyond embarassing.
5.- Despite what many of you may think, I think that Streater did pretty good. For his first game ever. Hagan did alright too. DHB wasn’t really used all that much. I don’t think I saw Criner in there. Myers had a couple nice catches too. All our receivers did ok, though none had that wow factor that really good receivers have, like when you go up in the air and come down with the ball. HOpefully Moore and Ford will bring that to the table.
6.- SD zeroed in on McFadden the whole game and we had no answer to that. That falls on the OC. When your main guy is being tripled you go to your #2 and #3, like Reece or DHB, in this game I would think those two should’ve been the secondary go to guys. Since we didn’t have Moore or Ford. But no, the OC chose to keep feeding it to McFadden eventhough there were 3 SD guys on him almost all the time. I think he went to him 4 times in a row at one point. Of course he is going to be worn down and the D will be expecting him to get the ball. No adjustments what so ever on offense.
Let’s hope this game serves as a lesson and DA starts getting on the Offense and Special Teams about their performance. The coaches mainly.
Oh, and one more thing, Keep Condo!

C) Knapp sucks
D) Streater was a mirage, put him on the practice squad
E) Taiwan is a clusterF***
F) McClain was only bright spot on D
G) Sign a TE (Cooley) Immediately
H) FIRE Knapp and hire Al Saunders or at the very least let him take over play calling duties
I) DHB is lost out there, thanks to Knapp again
J) Run D maybe has improved but the dolts suck so remains to be seen
K) No $ to sign Brandon Carr or Tracy Porter, should have kept Chim Chek, Bartell sucks
L) I will stop right there, before I run out of letters

In order for Knapp to come to terms of what is to be done he must address this one question. Can the Raiders establish a ruuning game from a zone blocking scheme he wanted to impliment. If he thinks so keep it. If he really is not dead set on it let it go because it will hinder the team future progress. Raiders fans know you have to get Reece more involved that is a given. But what I really feel Knapp and the others involved fail to see is in the zone blocking scheme there was a catching tightend waiting to devour the voids in the defense when mistakes were made. The Raiders tightend are rarely to take advantage of that. Meyers came alive abit at the end of the game to confirm that theory. The Raiders need to use EVERY player to their advantage on offense and that is what Hue was good at. Hue would have been great at the same thing with the Raiders on offense with one more year but he was let go. Knapp needs to stop being one step slower than everyone else he is going to face and DA needs to see that he gets the job done.

Come on, Man. Vick was absolutely horrendous yesterday. If it wasn’t for Cleveland throwing four INTs the Eagles would’ve got trounced by arguably the worst team in the league. I know it’s your thing to defend certain QBs, but let’s be serious.
