End 3rd qtr: Chargers 16, Raiders 6

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, September 10th, 2012 at 9:46 pm in Oakland Raiders.

With the Raiders dealing with a special teams disaster (Travis Goethel subbing for long-snapper Jon Condo) and the offense reduced to short attempts from Carson Palmer to Darren McFadden, boos were beginning to rain down on the Oakland offense as the third quarter expired.

The Lane Kiffin 2.0 era has begun! The only difference is that Kiffin 1.0 actually had Cable to teach the zone blocking scheme. Next week will actually be a good test for the Raiders Offense. The Fin’s played the Texans this week and had all that time to prepare for the exact same offense that they will see with the Raiders. Reggie better be on the phone right now with Alex Gibbs so he can save this O-Line. Also, great idea not to give Goethel any reps during the preseason as long snapper. Because Condo really needed the reps with a punter that had no shot at making the team. DA better spend a LOT of time with that offense. Marcel Reese got one carry and was targeted twice? WTF??

no they’re not. moore and ford are our #2 and #5. criner is #6.

    ++++++=

    Thats you’re opinion Bruh.

    We can disagree however, my top 3 are;

    1. DMO
    2. JCRINER <—- Limited reps this week.
    3. DHB and JFORD

    ************
criner is ur #2? based on what? dhb was our best wr by far last year.

No way can McFragile tear up the league in this offensive. Hue constantly had Darren running down hill. With this tackling dummy offensive scheme. Darren will be on crutches in 4 games..

With Knapp as the playcaller, Palmer has already checked out mentally….time to make a move admit your foolishness, are you listening big REG?

    >> make a move to Pryor? might need somebody who can run for his life when hes see McFadden is triple covered.

raiders: 4.7 yards per play. chargers 4.8 yards per play.

    >>>> so we handed them easy scores or what? stats don’t tell the story here.

uh, 3 bad snaps led to easy scores. yes.

  • J-Raider

the chargers average starting field position in the game was on OUR 38 yard line and we only allowed 22 points.. now we just need to get hue jax in here to be the OC and we will win the freakin superbowl.. HAHAHAHAHA

I also wonder why Reese wasn’t more involved especially with us being shorthanded at WR.

I’m sick of hearing how there are “good things to take away” from the game.

We just got humiliated on national tv and looked like a disorganized joke and a bunch of keystone cops.

I love the Raiders and will never stop pulling for em, but this was horrible…

I take NOTHING good away from this game EXCEPT the run d was decent. SD dropped alot of passes and it could’ve been much worse and should have actually.

The D was letting guys go wide open..there was NO pass rush, and the only reason we held em to minimal yardage is becuz they were on a short field most of the time.

U guys can walk away feeling good about this disaster but i am not….and i’ve been a koolaid drinking homer all my life.

This was a hot mess of garbage and anybody associated with the Raiders should be embarrassed after this “debut” of a “new era of excellence”.
    _____________

I hate that I agree with most of this. While the D played well, all things considered, the pass defense is going to be a problem. Alot of wide open guys today.. Run D looks GREAT, even if it was Ronnie Brown. Hopefully that holds up

The Every year’s offseason dream is over!!!

  • Barry_McKockiner

I still won my ff with Moore out and no receiver in his place. WOOT

  • EMRaiders

Tonight’s game told us a few things.

1.- What we all feared from Knapps offense became a reality. Carson has nothing to do with this, the problem is when you call plays designed to gain 3 to 4 yards when you are 3rd and long. McFadden is a beast, but when you call his number over and over and over again the D will soon be on him like white on rice. I am afraid that if this keeps up he will get injured by game 3 and then we will really be up a creek.

2.- The D is greatly improved. Can you believe our run D? That was nice to see. Burris played lights out I thought. However, I do see some issues with our passing D. I mentioned during the offseason that this could be an ongoing problem into the season and I think it is. Hopefully it gets corrected.

3.- Penalties. Kelly’s were the two of most impact in my opinion. It is the first game, so I will hold off on judgement on this matter. But it needs to get addressed.

4.- Special Teams. Something else I mentioned in the preseason. It was horrible then, and it is horrible now. Granted we lost Condo, still, that only made things go beyond embarassing.

5.- Despite what many of you may think, I think that Streater did pretty good. For his first game ever. Hagan did alright too. DHB wasn’t really used all that much. I don’t think I saw Criner in there. Myers had a couple nice catches too. All our receivers did ok, though none had that wow factor that really good receivers have, like when you go up in the air and come down with the ball. HOpefully Moore and Ford will bring that to the table.

6.- SD zeroed in on McFadden the whole game and we had no answer to that. That falls on the OC. When your main guy is being tripled you go to your #2 and #3, like Reece or DHB, in this game I would think those two should’ve been the secondary go to guys. Since we didn’t have Moore or Ford. But no, the OC chose to keep feeding it to McFadden eventhough there were 3 SD guys on him almost all the time. I think he went to him 4 times in a row at one point. Of course he is going to be worn down and the D will be expecting him to get the ball. No adjustments what so ever on offense.

Let’s hope this game serves as a lesson and DA starts getting on the Offense and Special Teams about their performance. The coaches mainly.

Oh, and one more thing, Keep Condo!

    >> Yeah, 13 catches? i like Mcfadden but if he has 13 catches he better 150 REC yards and 3 TDS as well. he won’t last in this system. and when he goes down, palmer will go down, then we’ll see Pryor.

I agree.. ” Couch Palmer ” looked better than tonites Palmer. Carson played with no zest or fire.. Just kinda goin thru the motions.. Tuned Knapp out completely on the sideline…

  • dr_robert

here’s the question of the night: ur starting longsnapper goes down. so u put in ur #2, which is a high school snapper/LB. he rolls his first one back. u don’t make a change. he lofts one back that gets blocked. u don’t make a change. it happens again.

taiwan refused to run a kick back.

seabass’ onside kick was a missile down the field.

    who’s to blame?

  • manassamauler

why run a west coast offense when you have a QB and WRS built for a vertical offense. just seems fuking retarded to me. hopefully they catch on.

    >> Palmer likes to sling it. Thats what he’s always done. this offense puts him to sleep I’m sure.this won’t last, something has to change.

  • J-Raider

we will all be taking “knapps” if our OC doesnt get fired!!!!

  • boss01

    Things to take away:

    A) Knapp should be fired
    B) Seymour is stealing more $ than Jamarcus ever did
    C) Knapp sucks
    D) Streater was a mirage, put him on the practice squad
    E) Taiwan is a clusterF***
    F) McClain was only bright spot on D
    G) Sign a TE (Cooley) Immediately
    H) FIRE Knapp and hire Al Saunders or at the very least let him take over play calling duties
    I) DHB is lost out there, thanks to Knapp again
    J) Run D maybe has improved but the dolts suck so remains to be seen
    K) No $ to sign Brandon Carr or Tracy Porter, should have kept Chim Chek, Bartell sucks
    L) I will stop right there, before I run out of letters

  • J-Raider

our offense was taking a “knapp” out there tonight!! oh well, saunders is here for a reason…

  • J-Raider

greg knapp is the only problem.. plain and simple.

if you dont agree, then you dont know football.

  • http://insidebayarea.com Rabbitman562

No mistake..Palmer put up some nice stats.. I meant it looked like he wasnt having much fun.. Probably wasnt with all the pressure he was under and not getting any help from his pedestrian receivers…

  • boss01

Palmer has checked out mentally in the midst of Knapp’s anemic play calling, gonna be a long hard year

  • J-Raider

i think we are about to see a trade or multiple roster moves by reggie this week.. i cant see us not picking up a long snapper or at least a wideout.. our offense was horrible thanks to mr. sandman…

  • boss01

Defense was looking stout until Kelly brain farted, then Bartell got smoked twice…in Reggie’s defense though, he had no choice but to go after 2nd tier players thanks to the salary cap issue, then again, he signed off on all coaching hires, no excuse for that

In order for Knapp to come to terms of what is to be done he must address this one question. Can the Raiders establish a ruuning game from a zone blocking scheme he wanted to impliment. If he thinks so keep it. If he really is not dead set on it let it go because it will hinder the team future progress. Raiders fans know you have to get Reece more involved that is a given. But what I really feel Knapp and the others involved fail to see is in the zone blocking scheme there was a catching tightend waiting to devour the voids in the defense when mistakes were made. The Raiders tightend are rarely to take advantage of that. Meyers came alive abit at the end of the game to confirm that theory. The Raiders need to use EVERY player to their advantage on offense and that is what Hue was good at. Hue would have been great at the same thing with the Raiders on offense with one more year but he was let go. Knapp needs to stop being one step slower than everyone else he is going to face and DA needs to see that he gets the job done.

The most meaningless stat line of the week. Give me Mike Vicks’ from yesterday all day long.

    ————————-

Come on, Man. Vick was absolutely horrendous yesterday. If it wasn’t for Cleveland throwing four INTs the Eagles would’ve got trounced by arguably the worst team in the league. I know it’s your thing to defend certain QBs, but let’s be serious.
    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

My point had nothing to do with how he played yesterday. Of course he was horrendous. But at the end of the day, he won the game. All I’m saying.
    ===================================
Explain why you picked Vick’s name and not one of the other 15 winning QB’s?
