The Raiders drove 78 yards but only got as far as the 2-yard line before Sebastian Janikowski kicked a 19-yard field goal with four seconds left in the half.
The drive came immediately after San Diego drove 90 yards for a score but ended up with a touchdown on a 16-yard pass from Philip Rivers to Malcom Floyd.
Running back Darren McFadden had a career-high eight receptions by halftime.

Carson palmer showed us the good and the bad in that half. He was on fire making all of the right choices and the the mental breakdown. The near pick followed by the delay of game. I wish he could just be the guy that he was for the first 14 mins of the game, when balls start bouncing off defenders its usually bad news.
Still though there was no critical redzone turn over so carson still has a chance to iron it out and play smart for the rest of the game. There is no question about his ability to throw the ball, the question is the decision making

A different team, yes. More disciplined for sure. Defense is hella good. The problem I have is with the Offense now. I’m trying not to be too judgemental this early but it looks less dynamic (but more disciplined). Too much short sht, dink-n-dunk and not enough down the field attack, attack, attack.
If Knapp keeps this short stuff up all year, offensive production will definitely be down. We’ll get a lot of 1st downs but not many points.

Dink & dunk offense is offensive. we need Raider football offense. Sit down Tommy Kelly. He single handedly screwed our defense. He has absolutely no discipline.

I cant say I agree, carson has not been very sharp when he tries to force the ball as he did at the end of the half. He needs to take the under neath game and let the weapons run with it. That is really what the wco does best. Then as the defense creeps up you take a a couple of shots deep.
Carson would be well advised to keep taking the underneath single coverage and check downs. he has looked very good doing that so fa tonight. iN fact he looked better than ever as a raider doing just that for 14 mins.

To be frank, offense looks kind of boring compared to last year. Just more disciplined. Davis would not have liked this kind of O imho. Knapp needs to attack downfield more …granted we are down our deep threats (Moore & Ford) …so I’m trying to keep that in mind. But DHB at least needs to be used that way more to compensate.

Knapp’s playcalling isn’t even close to being the problem. The problems are the drops, the fumble, and the three passes that could easily have been INTs.
When he does dial up an “explosive” play, someone fks up. Palmer throws a deep pass to … well, nobody. Bad route running or poorly thrown pass.
Execution is the problem.

SD is crowding the interior. Attacking downfield will help the run game and DMC operate underneath. We’re averaging less than 4ypc. We need to be attacking downfield more. There is too much lateral plays and short hits. We had this same issue a few years ago with Kiffin I believe (and maybe Knapp/Cable).
