Report: Reece to sign contract extension
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, September 10th, 2012 at 8:07 am in Oakland Raiders.
Marcel Reece will sign a contract extension at some point before Monday night’s regular-season opener against the San Diego Chargers, acccording to Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports.
Reece was scheduled to make $540,000 this season. He missed some of the Raiders’ offseason workouts while waiting to sign his exclusive rights tender, eventually signing and reporting.
A Pro Bowl alternate at fullback last season despite missing four games due to injury, Reece caught 27 passes for 301 yards. With his background as a University of Washington wide receiver, Reece, 6-foot-2, 250 pounds, presents the most difficult matchup problems of any player at his position in the NFL.
There has been no confirmation from the Raiders.

If I get too excited about the game tonight and we lose…it’s gonna tuff to sleep well seeing as game won’t be over till 12am my time.
Gotta try to keep it even keel to save myself from bitter disappointment.
As Raider fans…we’ve all been there.

The thing with Routt is he’d do pretty well alot of the time. It wasn’t like he was horrible every single play the whole game; just that he’d be sure to have a key PI call or get burned in the red zone, but it wasn’t like he was blatantly bad all the time.

What a gritty performance by Mike Vick yesterday. Some pretty bad decision making on a couple of those picks, especially the pick-six. But the guy made the plays in the end and got a victory against a badass defense on the road. The Cleveland D battered Vick from beginning to end yesterday. It’s a miracle the guy didn’t get carted off the field. On the crucial 9-yd scramble on the last drive, Rubin destroyed him, yet he still had the toughness and presence of mind to recover his own fumble. This game remeinded me of the 2007 Colts-Chargers game where Manning threw 6 picks. The only difference is that Vick was able to pull out the victory and Manning came up just a little short.

Reece is our 2nd best weapon on offense IMO.
1- DMAC: he can do it all. He can throw too.
2- Reece: Matchup Nightmare. Faster than any LB on the field, bigger/ stronger than any DB, and he can catch like a WR (he was a WR in college).

The Eagles and Jags each have over $20 mil. What exactly are they saving it for?!?
@@@@@@@@@@
I’m surprised the Eagles have any room with the “Al Davis” type of contracts they give some of their players.

——
DHB is going to have a pretty good night , Streater will have a pretty nice debut, Taiwan Jones will bring one of out of the end zone for a exciting Kick return TD

I was shocked with Denvers O-line. They gave Manning tons of time and picked up the blitz really well. The other thing was he didn’t have to throw into any windows. His receivers were WIDE THE FU*K OPEN. HOW does that happen Play, after Play, after Play?
In short,
Denver looked better than I anticipated, and Pitt looked a little worse than I expected. Sure didn’t help they were missing Mendenhall and Harrison….I spent the offseason sayin the Broncos AIN’T gonna be that great…..Last night I felt like a giant DI*K.

Manning embarrassed the Pitt. D last night.
They could not stop him when he got on a roll.
The way Denvers D pummelled Big Ben at the end…made a statement.
Pitt. fans are pizzed i’m sure at how Denver out muscled them and made Pitt. their beyotches at the end with those emphatic game closing slam downs.

Time to show these chumps the black hole is once again the toughest place to steal a win!!! In prime time and the last game of opening week, this is a statement game to set the tone for the year.

Well, I gave Manning his due credit but, I HONESTLY didn’t think they’d come out of the gates looking the way they did. I expected Manning to be under durress, I expected less rythm in the passing game, I thought defense would be so-so.
Pretty much the opposite happend. The defense was on the field a Sh*t TON last night, and they still brought it like a bunch of savages. Manning sat on the bench most of the 3rd qtr, came in for 2 plays and hung 7 on the board. I tell ya man, I was so F’ing pissed….Mainly cause of the way I been downgrading the Broncos for months.

This is a tweet from cork:
“To help alleviate lines at Monday night’s sold-out opener, the Raiders have requested fans enter the stadium an hour before the 7:15 p.m. kickoff. There will be a pregame performance by Ice Cube, who wrote a rap anthem for the franchise, and an opportunity for fans to win field passes, locker room tours and autographed memorabilia.”
I’ll be at the game tonight, anyone recommend entering the stadium an hour early or is it going to be lame?
September 10th, 2012 at 10:57 am
I need to see a PREPARED team which is sure of itself. NOT dropping easy passes and looking scared over the middle or slapping balls up in the air for SD to intercept, or fumbling, or letting SD have big kick returns.
Play SOUND FUNDAMENTAL FOOTBALL…Don’t be scared.

I’m kinda worried that the defense tries too hard to exploit the rookie LT that we become predictable. You know he’s going to have a ton of help over there.
I wonder if we should just fake blitz from that side and then send everybody from the RT side? Especially early. Norv would never expect it!

seriously, the best thing the teams can do is dig up Houston footage (I know Knapp was the QB coach, but same scheme) and Stanford film to see what looks Tarver might show. Don’t think that’ll cut it.
September 10th, 2012 at 11:08 am
DJ,
The only reason SD beat us the last game of the season is because our defense was pathetic. Hue was a total dilettante – nothing more than a pimp too concerned with getting his fingernails polished and colored than getting his hands dirty sending Breshnahan down the road and patching up the defense so that it could stop something, even if was only a 3 legged coyote with a front legged limp.
Rivers at least salvaged some pride in that victory, and the Raiders were ripe for the picking.
SD is weak, plagued by the same problems they had last year, while we have grown stronger.
Any GM who would allow Vincent Jackson to get away hasn’t the talent to win in the long run.
That was proven by AD and his petty dispute with Marcus Allen. One can say what he/she wants but once AD had it out with Allen we never consistently won again.

No wide open drops or overthrows from Palmer. I wanna see a confident Palmer..not a guy who’s doubting himself or scared to throw the int. Just be who he is and play to win..not to lose.
Hope not to see Knapp call for short 5 yd. passes to guys who someone draped all over them on 3rd and 10’s like we saw in preseason.
September 10th, 2012 at 11:10 am
Here’s the keys as I see it:
1) Keep Palmer upright. More time = better decisions = less INTs.
2) Contain Malcolm Floyd and Antonio Gates. They are SD’s 2 most dangerous weapons by far. Both have killed the Raiders in the past. Time for that to stop.
3) Get in Phyllis’s face early and often. That Thursday night game last year when Wimbley was practically part of Rivers’s uniform? he didn’t know which way was up by the end of the game. He can be rattled.
September 10th, 2012 at 11:10 am

I would run DMAC all year until the wheels fall off!!! If Ap can come back from his injury and get busy, then DMAC can do it as well!!!!
The run game is key to control the clock, lower Palmers INTs and keep P Rivs off the field.

95.7 brought up a good point, SD doesn’t know what our defense is going to look like…not like in years past.
September 10th, 2012 at 11:33 am
It’s not fear in the players but fear in the eyes of Knapp which I observed several times in the preseason.
Last night Mike Tomlin threw a totally inappropriate challenge flag regarding a pass with 3 minutes left from Manning to a WR which brought the Broncos to the Steelers one yard line. Manning ran another play quickly in order that a challenge couldn’t be made and Tomlin barely got the flag thrown in time. So the whole thing had to come back, while perfectly obvious that the original play would stand. 3 minutes later the play was upheld Broncos at the Steelers’ 1 yd line.
Tomlin looked dazed and confused, stupid, silly no less, and cost the Steelers a time out, when such time out may, under the circumstances, have cost them the game.
Tomlin is no leader of men. With that bad challenge he de-inspired the whole team; it was very obvious. Especially since it was obvious that the players knew the challenge would not stand.
When the Raiders played the Lions in preseason they were on the Lions’ half-yard line and Knapp 3 times tried to punch (unsuccessfully) DMAC through the middle, when there was almost no chance of it happening. The cameras turned on Knapp and his clipboard and there was a horrible projection of doubt on Knapp’s part. You could hear him say to himself, “but the X’s and O’s here on my clipboard say that it should work.” It was a serious let down he projected onto his men.
In my mind I said, “send in WR’s and spread the Lions line out so there isn’t an impenetrable wall there.” Knapp did just that on 4th down and DMAC scored.
You can’t have someone that intractable and stupid as OC. One in nine plays through a concentrated line like that are ever successful, plus Knapp put DMAC at risk for injury.
If I were CP3, on the 2nd attempt I would have put out the WR’s and changed Knapp’s play and just done it myself. I would have gone to DA and told him, fire the fool or fire me because anytime he does anything stupid again I’ll change the play at the line.
Manning would do it and that is why Manning rules.
September 10th, 2012 at 11:33 am
2012 Raiders = Expect to unexpected
I truly believe DA is the truth.
September 10th, 2012 at 11:35 am
230. Its knapps offense. And we all know what it looks like.. a wco with zone blocking.. mostly run run pass..
September 10th, 2012 at 11:36 am
Not a fan of Knapp, but I’ll give him a few games to prove himself before I let the hyenas out on him.
Won’t judge him after a few preseason games.
September 10th, 2012 at 11:37 am
A victory tonight should include but not limited to;
1) A steady dose of DMAC running near the output of last years running game.
2)Outlet passes to DMac in the passing game alternating with Reece.
3) Establishing a security blanket with their tightend. The tightend must find the voids in the coverage which means the appropriate depth.
Many times I find the running back and the tightend running their patterns directly into pass coverages instead to finding the voids. To develop the skill of finding voids is primary a receivers active learnig of defenses. I hope that this is were DA and his staff make a difference.

Just as I was saying….I’m not sure if we are ready for P. Manning. Peyton looked as though he didn’t miss a beat last night against the Steelers. My concern is how Manning calls his on plays soon as he began to call his own plays the game went into the Donkeys favor. Manning is his usual phenomenal QB self…just like I thought he would be. We beat PM the same we always have.Play man all game long.We were the only team to give it to Indy a few years back and when we lost it was close. That was the only reason I could come up with at the time.Marley was in earlier and pointed out that Denver didn’t start to
make an impression on Pitt til PM kicked in the no huddle and off they went.Man doesn’t change against the no huddle…just wait for the snap and go.That’s my theory anywhoo.

I may be a Nick Miller fan and all but I can be right about some things. Just saying

Gotta love the enthusiasm, big dreams and hope of week 1 in Raider Nation.
Of course, if recent history is any guide, by week 5 it will turn into doubt.
By week 10 we’re consumed with dread of the inevitable.
Week 15 is typically suicide prevention mode around here.
And then week 17: the fun we have dreaming about our potential draft picks.
But for now it’s still week 1! Just win, baby!

Just sayin’, but the Raiders are building a new legacy of injuring Chargers so bad they soon retire. Kris Diehlman a few years back, then Marcus McNeill.
The intimidation factor is a terrible thing to waste
and all this talk about a healthy, revived Antonio Gates makes me ill. Gates is one good Phillip Wheeler hit away from retirement.
with Ice Cube in the house, it’s time for some Chargers’ bodies to get hauled off

September 10th, 2012 at 1:30 pm
My parents live in Palm Springs which is next to Palm Desert where Al Davis maintained a condo. I told them to look out for a redheaded man with a retro bowl haircut. It would be Mark Davis. According to this article by Monte Poole, they were correct in telling me they spotted him last week.
“The months have dwindled to weeks, which have faded to days, and Mark Davis is sitting in a Palm Desert restaurant last week when his cell phone rings. The unveiling of the New Oakland Raiders is at hand, and the caller poses a simple question to the rookie owner”
September 10th, 2012 at 1:32 pm
PUT YOUR PANTS just flat pisses some folks off. I don’t know why but it cracks me the F*ck UP. I think cause it doesn’t make any damn sense, but, the dude that said it, was ALL FREAKIN PUMPED. Yeah, Bres but you know what I hate?; the fact that not ONE of our defensive players..not Seymour not Branch not McClain..NOBODY stood up, with the division on the line, having only to hold SD in their own territory to give Palmer a chance to win it..not ONE guy stood up and said “not today beyotches! NOT in our house with everything on the line”.
