Bartell set to miss significant time, too

Raiders coach Dennis Allen said earlier today that wide recevier Jacoby Ford is going to miss “significant” time in light of Ford having surgery performed on his left foot.
Now comes word from ESPN’s Bill Williamson that Raiders starting cornerback Ron Bartell suffered a broken left shoulder blade Monday night and might be sidelined as long as six weeks.
On the bright side, if there is one here, Bartell doesn’t need surgery, and he might be out as little as four weeks.
All Allen said about Bartell during a news conference today is that Bartell was having an MRI today.
Pat Lee likely will move into the starting lineup during Bartell’s absence, as he did Monday night against the San Diego Chargers.
Last season, Bartell suffered a neck injury in the season-opening game as a member of the St. Louis Rams. He missed the remainder of the season while recovering.

SD did exactly what they should have done, mitigate the big plays by DMAC. Good game planning by the disc however, KNAPP should have been able to counter what they were doing.

One of the main thing I was looking for was, how we would handle halftime adjustments?

KNAPP made ZERO halftime adjusments that were worth anything.

JCONDO doesn’t go down we win that game.

    This loss was felt like 3;

    1. Division game
    2. Its the disc
    3. we are 0-1

Not a fan of KNAPP however, the sky is still blue, and in place.

The D looked very solid, and if that is an indication of the D potential, they will keep us in games.

Sunday will be a tough matchup however, with the D I believe will prevail.

    ArmChair GM,

I would agree that it needs to be done as soon as possible in terms of saving this season, but we have to remember that part of what DA and Reggie have to do to get this franchise going in the LONG RUN, is project a level of stability that has not been around here since the Gruden days. Until they successfully stabilize this team in the eyes of all of the coaches, players and their agents, we are going to struggle to get quality individuals into Oakland to help us take it to the next level.

Immediately firing, or even quietly demoting Knapp, will do long-term damage to Reggie’s & DA’s credibility and will further the belief that the Raiders are not a quality franchise in the eyes of many around the league.

But another double digit loss season would do more damage in the eyes around the league.

Guys can say “but at least they are showing stability”, but on the other hand nobody wants to be associated with losers.

IF a change in at least the play calling is “quietly” made and we win because of it, the “change” with Knapp will be much over-shadowed by the winning.

It will show that the org is serious about winning and will do what it takes to get it done. People like to be around “winners”.

If condo didn’t go down, they wouldn’t have had a 22-6 lead. Condo going down placed SD in FG range 3 times! the score could have been 13-6 with how our D held up. But i still put the loss on Knapp because of his inability to adjust. We should not have been punting in the first place, especially after Condo went down.

  • RAIDERMAN99

It’s very easy to criticize Knapp for too much short stuff and the over reliance on DMAC Monday night.

Heck, that was obvious. Any objective observer could see that at this pace he’s going to get DMAC killed. When you don’t have a pass completion longer than 15 yards until the 3rd qtr – you’re taking stretching the field horizontally to absurd levels.

    Easy valid criticism.

But once you get past that, you’ve got to wonder about the play calling INSIDE THE RED ZONE.

Can someone refresh my memory ? Was there a single pass attempt into the end zone besides the one that was nearly intercepted ?

We already KNOW from the pre-season that scoring from the 1 or 2 yard line is going to take an act of Congress.

Maybe Knapp should consider passing it in from outside the 10.

    Nah.

The entire transition of the offense was handled improperly.

The majority of our weapons on offense including the QB were drafted or acquired using the Al Davis, vertical, stretch the field, power scheme philosophy.

We do not have the player personnel to fully implement what Knapp is trying to do!

Saunders should have been made the OC with Knapp as HIS adviser, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!!

Then Knapp’s plan could be slowly integrated over the next season or two as we acquire the best players to implement that scheme!

This entire thing was handled completely AZZ BACKWARDS from the start!!!

    YoungAmerican speaking stone cold truth.

The organization has to be aligned…its not a mix and match of philosophies….it all has to aligned so that players are drafted/signed based on the system, assistant coaches recruited to teach a specific system.

And then keep it consistent. Al’s major flaw was rolling through coaches too quickly.

The Raiders HIRED A GM WHO CAME FROM A WCO based team. Guess what? Good chance he’s implementing a WCO program. DA is WCO and so is Knapp.

Hopefully the players on the roster can adjust and make it work…which they should given that a lot of them are here because of superior skill sets.

I’m not advocating PANIC but it seems like kind of an attitude of “we’ll be fine, just get ready for Miami and all is good”.

DA mentioned at his post game presser that Moore could’ve played but he decided to keep him out cuz “it’s a long season” and “it’s a marathon not a sprint”.

I totally get that you don’t wanna have a key guy risk severe injury by throwing him out there too soon….I do, but…I hope that DA realizes…and Palmer too (since he made the “marathon” comment as well) that this game against Miami is HUUUUUUGE…”IF” this team has playoff aspirations.

There is not time to talk about “everythings fine… we’ll be there in the end” if you lose to Miami and you have Peyton Manning and the Pittsburgh waiting in the wings.

And let’s be honest. If we can’t beat SD at home in the “New Era of Excellence” debut in front of a packed house at O.Co. and can’t beat Miami in a “must win” game, what are our chances of taking care of Manning and outsmarting Dick LeBeau?

  • Jaysohn

Actually they did show a shot of Goethel working on snapping on the sideline. And please let’s stop going crazy asking for Knapp to get fired already. What did you expect to happen with a rookie free agent and a journeymen possession guy as 2 of your top 3 wideouts??? I know we all want instant success but it’s going to take sometime to fix the mess the old man left behind.
