Ford to have foot surgery

Wide receiver Jacoby Ford will have foot surgery in North Carolina and be out a “signficant’’ amount of time, Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Tuesday.

Ford was with the team Saturday but did not attend the Raiders’ season-opening 22-14 loss to the San Diego Chargers.

The Raiders will be looking for wide receivers but won’t necessarily sign one immediately.

“We’ve got five receivers right now and Reggie and I will look down and see where we’re at,’’ Allen said.

Ford missed six the last seven games a year ago with a foot injury which was re-injured Aug. 17 in the second preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Raiders hoped rest would improve the condition, but Allen said a foot specialist and the club staff determined “surgery was the best option for him.’’

Allen was hopeful wide receiver Denarius Moore, out since Aug. 4 with a hamstring strain but inactive against San Diego, would be ready to play Sunday against Miami.

One loss and of course we need to fire everybody. We entered the game with a free agent rookie and a possession receiver that was signed just days before. What did you expect was going to happen with the only real threat on the outside being DHB? The Chargers simply stacked the box to stop McFadden and had no fear of the big passing play. That is what happens when injuries take away play makers and no amount of play calling was going to change that. Then you had the unfortunate concussion to Condo. No team has a backup snapper, that’s not just on Allen or the Special Teams coach, the reality is all teams have one guy they hope can step in. The defense tackled better then any game last year and even with Kelly’s flags the team still had far less penalites that they had in most games the last few years. So I’m not as worried about Allen, Knapp or the zone blocking scheme as I am about Barnes at RT, the lack of talent at CB and the lack of pass rushing ends. Barnes is mediocre at best and teams will just continue to put a pass rusher on the right side against him. Bartel and Spencer might not be a downgrade but they aren’t an upgrade either over last years starters and the talent behind them is even less. While Kelly and Seymour were disruptive all night Shaugnessy and Houston provided no pass rush. We need one of them to step up and I’m really worried that neither of them may have it. I know as fans we don’t want to face reality but the truth is it’s going to take McKenzie a couple of years to get the talent needed to truly challenge. The Old Man left a mess and it’s not going to get fixed overnight. What you hope is that Allen can learn on the job and create a foundation. You also hope that the team will compete, play smarter, improve as the season goes and possibly if all goes right compete for a playoff spot at the end.

Any team that fks up 3 punts and gives a short field isn’t going to win. Period. If Condo doesn’t get hurt, that game could have had a different ending. The defense held Rivera to 1 Td folks. And the was able to move the ball up until it became catch up time and Knapp decided Dmac was the only player we have.

    Things will get better.

Looks like a lot of trolls on here.
And some whiny ones at that.
We lose the first game by 8 points and they want to fire the OC and blow everything up?!

    ———————-

Just like we blew everything up last year when we were a defensive stop or two from being AFC West champs?

That made less sense to me than talking about our lame offense.
    ————————————————-

    Your post makes no sense.

To expect Mark Davis not to hire a GM is idiotic.
To expect McKenzie not to want to hire his own coach is idiotic.
To expect Allen not to want his own coaches is idiotic.

    In short, you’re an idiot.
We lost one game by 8 points.
If you want to panic like some old lady then the bridge is waiting for you.

    ————————-
First off, no need to get personal with it.

Second, if you cant see that this offense isnt going places then you are in for a rude awakening. No im not being irrational or complaining, just looking at facts.

Giants lost by 7 and Green Bay lost by 8. Wonder if their fans want to blow up those teams, players, and coaches?

Just how disappointing was last night? We wait all fuk’in year for the team to start anew and all we get is a lame offensive plan poorly implemented. I was leery of Knapp when he was announced as rejoining the team. Now I’m sure he doesn’t have a clue. He taken what was pretty good last year and destroyed it. He’s taking our one big weapon and is misusing and abusing him badly. We HAD a great o-line coach in here last year and they’ve replaced him with a coach and system that has failed here before badly. We bring on a potential elite QB gunslinger and tell him he can only shoot a .22. Our ST, which were fairly good last year had the coach replaced with new blood that is inept. We can’t seem to run a ST play without it being screwed up. Right now this team is a disaster. Yes, I know it’s only been one game but I can see backwards when it presents itself. Knapp and this offensive group of coaches have gutted our offense. Not only is it bad, it’s BORING! What a waste of talent.

On a positive note, our D did look much better even with the questionable new players that are in there. Kudos to the DC. You can also give DA some credit on that too. After all, he is a D minded HC and it showed. Too bad he doesn’t know squat about offense. Leaving Knapp in charge of our Offense will be our undoing. Reggie better step in quickly on the O side of things and make some coaching changes. IMO, we will NEVER be successful with Knapp at the controls. He’s failed here before & he’ll fail again. He’s NEVER been a successful OC anywhere else so why do they think he can do it now? That’s just dumb thinking. They need to replace Knapp with Saunders and go back to what works with our current personnel – Power Blocking. It may be too late to save this team this year. Too bad for us the fans, rebuilding always sucks. It’s actually worse than just losing, it’s embarrassing.

Explain this to me. We were very shorthanded with our offensive weapons right?

We just signed one of the most dynamc fullbacks to an extension and he gets two touches. I know its only one game but come on.

Knowing that we are lacking playmakers, we just kept force feeding Darren when Reece is a very capable playmaker himself.

  • ArmChair GM

The entire transition of the offense was handled improperly.

The majority of our weapons on offense including the QB were drafted using the Al Davis, vertical, stretch the field, power scheme philosophy.

We do not have the player personnel to fully implement what Knapp is trying to do!

Saunders should have been made the OC with Knapp as HIS adviser, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!!

Then Knapp’s plan could be slowly integrated over the next season or two as we acquire the best players to implement that scheme!

This entire thing was handled completely AZZ BACKWARDS from the start!!!

Completely agree JB. Our offense last night was boring with very slow developing plays.

Im not touting Hue as some offensive genius or the next Vince Lomardi, but his offenses have gone 9-3 vs the AFC West the last two years. Hue and Saunders seemed to dial up some good game plans against the division.

  • RAIDERMAN99

Is Krapp going to be fired or stripped of his play calling duties anytime soon ?

    NO.

That does not mean that people who are calling for his dismissal NOW are trolls or are wrong for doing so.

Truthfully, it’s probably too late to salvage the season by firing Krapp now. Realistically, the Raids would have to scrap Krapp’s ENTIRE system, as the problem goes deeper than just Krappy’s horrific play calling. His playbook SUCKS. Could they transition to, install, and effectively run Saunder’s famously thick playbook with good results in a reasonable amount of time ? Very doubtful.

Probably worth a try, as the 2012 season is doomed with Krapp as OC anyway – but the Raids are pretty much screwed either way.

I don’t mind being branded a troll for calling for Krapp’s dismissal. I said he should have never been hired to begin with and warned that a Krapp-storm was approaching throughout the pre-season and before yesterday’s debacle.

The great AL DAVIS said it was better to be right than consistent.

On the issue of Krapp, I’ve been consistent and I’ll be proven to be right as well.

He stinks and needs to go.

Before the season started I predicted a 7-9 record for the Raids.

    I was being optimistic.

Krapp’s probably going to get DMAC killed. The defense will probably wear down from being on the field all day. There will be injuries (they’re unavoidable). This could get very very ugly in a hurry.

It’s a shame too, because this squad really isn’t that bad.

Am I being way too negative ? Perhaps. Only time will tell. But I’m not going to sugar coat things or be falsely optimistic. This ‘troll’ takes his Raiders seriously.

    Positives:

Raiders DEF was best I’ve seen since the 80′s even with some spotty coverages here and there. Palmer threw accurate balls even tho he couldn’t step up on most throws. Hagan is a pros pro. MLB McClain played his best game. Huff tackled well.

  • raiderdav

DEMOTE that Gregg Krapp now, I really dont get what McKenzie was thinking in hiring this moron. DIDNT work out the first time around why would it work the second time around, SURE the first time there was Jawalrus Russell, but the offense was bad with him running the show. The problem with Knapp is that he doesnt know how to utilize other players into the mix, by the rate that DMAC is getting the ball , he will either get injured again or just worn down. They need to sign a veteran receiver that they can rely on, I like Hagan but he is not that explosive threat that we need at Receiver. AL Saunders should be running the Offense

Marks Hair, why do you even post on this site. All you do is complain. It’s fans like you that make it hard to defend being a Raider fan. When things go good (which is few a far between recently) you are waiting for them to go bad, just so you can say “I told you so.” Half the teams in the NFL are 0-1. Relax everyone. Chargers are a decent team, as are the Raiders. If the damn punting fiasco doesn’t happen last night, we’re in the game until the end. Did any of you really think we were going to come out and be dominant. Have some perspective, we simply ain’t that good. We ain’t that bad either. I hope to win, and I think we have the talent to be able to do it, but the issues Al Davis left this organization will take time to be remedied. What’s more important is for the Raider’s front office to make smart financial decisions to give us cap room and draft picks in the future. We will have to make do with what we have for now, which is not a very deep team. So basically, it took me a few hundred words to tell you, Marks Hair, to shut the HELL up bro.

If you listen to Coach Allen, he’s a displeased as any of us with Knapp. He says there going to get other running backs involved. I take that as, he’s stripping Knapp of his unfettered play calling power.

Perhaps the beginning of the end of Knapp.
