Ford to have foot surgery

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, September 11th, 2012 at 1:35 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Wide receiver Jacoby Ford will have foot surgery in North Carolina and be out a “signficant’’ amount of time, Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Tuesday.

Ford was with the team Saturday but did not attend the Raiders’ season-opening 22-14 loss to the San Diego Chargers.

The Raiders will be looking for wide receivers but won’t necessarily sign one immediately.

“We’ve got five receivers right now and Reggie and I will look down and see where we’re at,’’ Allen said.

Ford missed six the last seven games a year ago with a foot injury which was re-injured Aug. 17 in the second preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Raiders hoped rest would improve the condition, but Allen said a foot specialist and the club staff determined “surgery was the best option for him.’’

Allen was hopeful wide receiver Denarius Moore, out since Aug. 4 with a hamstring strain but inactive against San Diego, would be ready to play Sunday against Miami.

Holy crap, after watching the first 2 punts that Goethel snapped it was Burris that screwed the pooch on both of those. Even if Travis had got the first one off the ground Rosario was going to block it. Burris blocked outside both times and Rosario ran free up the middle with nothing more than a hand check. Easy pickins.

  23. MikieG Says:

Injuries are part of the game. I agree with RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit—We need to bring in a few more Wily veterans.

As far as the Knapptime Freakout goes–Im not extremely worried about it right now. Things went real wrong real quick last night. Streators Fumble..Tommy Kelly having the I.Q of a turnip..and nobody on the 53 man roster besides Condo that can perform a pass between their legs was game, set, match..

We play up to our abilities and we win. If DMAC can break a tackle or two here or there we win…I mean, it was only 1 game. No time to Panic right now. Think about what Saints Fan is thinking right about now. If ever there was a game to be chalked up as a win, it was the Saints Opener, and they got punched in the mouth…

Its all about how you come back.

  24. Twocents Says:

Allen is not going to fire Knapp. Allen is a rookie head coach and he has to give the man a chance. Help him, guide him but never listen to his BS.

  58. KoolKell Says:

Oakland faced a fourth-and-two from the San Diego Chargers 48-yard line early in the third quarter of a tight game Monday night. Dennis Allen choose to punt.

Punting is not necessarily the percentage play. It’s really crazy when you just lost your long snapper and the backup hasn’t snapped since high school. You know what happened next. The Raiders incurred a penalty before even snapping the ball in a punt formation, and then Travis Goethel threw a ground ball to Shane Lechler.

It shouldn’t be that hard to pick up a short-yardage conversion. The Raiders were at midfield where the benefits of a punt are mitigated. Yes, part of Goethel’s nightmare night as a fill-in long snapper could have been avoided.

Great coaches are able to adapt. There are plenty of coaches that would go for it on any fourth-and-two in that situation. There are even more coaches that would know to adjust their plan. I have high hopes for Allen, but this was not a great debut. The Raiders were the same old sloppy group.

The entire transition of the offense was handled improperly.

The majority of our weapons on offense including the QB were drafted using the Al Davis, vertical, stretch the field, power scheme philosophy.

We do not have the player personnel to fully implement what Knapp is trying to do!

Saunders should have been made the OC with Knapp as HIS adviser, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!!

Then Knapp’s plan could be slowly integrated over the next season or two as we acquire the best players to implement that scheme!

This entire thing was handled completely AZZ BACKWARDS from the start!!!

As a result…J Raider has started the OFFICIAL:

That punting fiasco was a national embarrassment and an insult to all the fans who had faith that he was gonna “fix” this thing.

He ain’t fixed schytt…and until he does the jury is out on him and he’s no better than Cable or Hue.

DA hasn’t done schytt but trot an unprepared group of clowns out on the field in front of a sellout crowd on national tv and jsutify every negative thing any of the media has said about the Raiders this yr.

We all got mad at Gannon for saying we are ranked 26th in the league….turns out he was being generous.

That punting fiasco was a national embarrassment and an insult to all the fans who had faith that he was gonna “fix” this thing.

He ain’t fixed schytt…and until he does the jury is out on him and he’s no better than Cable or Hue.

At least Cable swept the division and found a way to beat SD…and SD was BETTER than the SD team out there last night.

    ————————-

Yes, that SD team was a lot better. This year, I think SD is going be very avg and we got handled.

Hue had his faults as a head coach and spokesman of the org. But his offenses continually pushed around SD’s defense.

I could see the changing of the guard as far as being more physical than the chokers. Not anymore unfortunately.

Also trading Bruce Campbell for Mike Goodson. Ridiculously dumb. Trade one of the biggest athletic freaks at any position for a fumble prone back up RB. Bruce Campbell was a beast for Carolina all preseason and will probably be a starter for them for a few years, at least. Meanwhile, we have the Greg Knapp of Offensive Lineman, Khalif Barnes, who manages to keep a job each year no matter how poor his performance the previous year was. Campbell was one player I was really looking forward to seeing the Raiders develop.

I actually watched Bruce play this preseason, did you? Did you also know that Byron Bell, the 2011 UDFA that you are referencing, is actually a good player and had already won the RT job last year? Did you also know that there was a battle all preseason, because Campbell was close to supplanting Bell as the starter?

Look, man, I like to WATCH football. I dont just come on blogs and say sh!t just to say it. I know thats popular on this blog, but thats not my forte. Get at me anytime you want to talk football.

FIRE THE SPECIAL TEAMS COACH NOW!

EXTEND CONDO AND GIVE HIM A HUGE BONUS

  101. Jaysohn Says:

One loss and of course we need to fire everybody. We entered the game with a free agent rookie and a possession receiver that was signed just days before. What did you expect was going to happen with the only real threat on the outside being DHB? The Chargers simply stacked the box to stop McFadden and had no fear of the big passing play. That is what happens when injuries take away play makers and no amount of play calling was going to change that. Then you had the unfortunate concussion to Condo. No team has a backup snapper, that’s not just on Allen or the Special Teams coach, the reality is all teams have one guy they hope can step in. The defense tackled better then any game last year and even with Kelly’s flags the team still had far less penalites that they had in most games the last few years. So I’m not as worried about Allen, Knapp or the zone blocking scheme as I am about Barnes at RT, the lack of talent at CB and the lack of pass rushing ends. Barnes is mediocre at best and teams will just continue to put a pass rusher on the right side against him. Bartel and Spencer might not be a downgrade but they aren’t an upgrade either over last years starters and the talent behind them is even less. While Kelly and Seymour were disruptive all night Shaugnessy and Houston provided no pass rush. We need one of them to step up and I’m really worried that neither of them may have it. I know as fans we don’t want to face reality but the truth is it’s going to take McKenzie a couple of years to get the talent needed to truly challenge. The Old Man left a mess and it’s not going to get fixed overnight. What you hope is that Allen can learn on the job and create a foundation. You also hope that the team will compete, play smarter, improve as the season goes and possibly if all goes right compete for a playoff spot at the end.

  102. morilla Says:

Any team that fks up 3 punts and gives a short field isn’t going to win. Period. If Condo doesn’t get hurt, that game could have had a different ending. The defense held Rivera to 1 Td folks. And the was able to move the ball up until it became catch up time and Knapp decided Dmac was the only player we have.

    Things will get better.

Completely agree JB. Our offense last night was boring with very slow developing plays.

Im not touting Hue as some offensive genius or the next Vince Lomardi, but his offenses have gone 9-3 vs the AFC West the last two years. Hue and Saunders seemed to dial up some good game plans against the division.

  112. RAIDERMAN99 Says:

Is Krapp going to be fired or stripped of his play calling duties anytime soon ?

    NO.

That does not mean that people who are calling for his dismissal NOW are trolls or are wrong for doing so.

Truthfully, it’s probably too late to salvage the season by firing Krapp now. Realistically, the Raids would have to scrap Krapp’s ENTIRE system, as the problem goes deeper than just Krappy’s horrific play calling. His playbook SUCKS. Could they transition to, install, and effectively run Saunder’s famously thick playbook with good results in a reasonable amount of time ? Very doubtful.

Probably worth a try, as the 2012 season is doomed with Krapp as OC anyway – but the Raids are pretty much screwed either way.

I don’t mind being branded a troll for calling for Krapp’s dismissal. I said he should have never been hired to begin with and warned that a Krapp-storm was approaching throughout the pre-season and before yesterday’s debacle.

The great AL DAVIS said it was better to be right than consistent.

On the issue of Krapp, I’ve been consistent and I’ll be proven to be right as well.

He stinks and needs to go.

Before the season started I predicted a 7-9 record for the Raids.

    I was being optimistic.

Krapp’s probably going to get DMAC killed. The defense will probably wear down from being on the field all day. There will be injuries (they’re unavoidable). This could get very very ugly in a hurry.

It’s a shame too, because this squad really isn’t that bad.

Am I being way too negative ? Perhaps. Only time will tell. But I’m not going to sugar coat things or be falsely optimistic. This ‘troll’ takes his Raiders seriously.

The problem with Knapp is that he doesnt know how to utilize other players into the mix, by the rate that DMAC is getting the ball , he will either get injured again or just worn down. They need to sign a veteran receiver that they can rely on, I like Hagan but he is not that explosive threat that we need at Receiver. AL Saunders should be running the Offense

Chargers are a decent team, as are the Raiders. If the damn punting fiasco doesn’t happen last night, we’re in the game until the end. Did any of you really think we were going to come out and be dominant. Have some perspective, we simply ain’t that good. We ain’t that bad either. I hope to win, and I think we have the talent to be able to do it, but the issues Al Davis left this organization will take time to be remedied. What’s more important is for the Raider’s front office to make smart financial decisions to give us cap room and draft picks in the future. We will have to make do with what we have for now, which is not a very deep team. So basically, it took me a few hundred words to tell you, Marks Hair, to shut the HELL up bro.
