Raiders sign cornerback from Packers practice squad

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, September 19th, 2012 at 10:48 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders filled the void on their 53-man roster by signing cornerback Brandian Ross from the Green Bay Packers practice squad.
Ross initially made the Packers 53-man roster, but he got cut a week later when a veteran player returned from a one-game suspension.
Teams are permitted to sign players from another team’s practice squad, provided that player is added to the new team’s 53-man roster.
The Raiders had an opening as a result of waiving long-snapper Nick Guess on Tuesday.
Ross was signed by the Packers in 2011 as an undrafted free agent out of Youngstown State. He spent the season on their practice squad.
The Raiders also re-signed defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga to their practice squad.

Nice red zone target that we’re sorely missing.

At least Gio gets picks. WTF does Huffy do besides jump on opponents backs and get dragged a few yds before another Raider comes and finishes the play?

    —-

Thing is, if Gio isnt getting picks, he is giving TDs and chunk yardage. And usually 3-4 yards behind his man.
    ======

Maybe so but, Huffy gives up the TD and doesn’t get any picks at all. At least Gio returns the fav.

    —-

    In years past, yea.

This year Gio is like Santa with yards & TDs.

I think Huff is the best dressed Raider. He looks like the players I dress on My Madden Roster. Got the sleeves and socks all nice and clean, with the visor, and towell and stuff. But unlike Primetime, looking good and playing good don’t work for him.

Cutting guys that get picked up and added to a contenders 53 is a freakin , especially when we are thin at the position…

I hate to say this but w/ our depleted secondary what are your thoughts of having Huffy play corner (puke) and Gio playing up top?

    ———

I know he would be out of position, I think you put Mitchell in at FS and Leave Branch at SS, they both have blitz-threats and both hit and tackle. Besides nobody is trying to throw over our heads this year, they just run the rock and throw wide open out-routes for 15 yards.

Plax is a waste of money, and a roster spot. Flat out. Has not gotten a look anywhere in the league, was a Non-Factor with the Jets. And has already been stated numerous times By Big Red, he will not be signed, and I’m thankful. Criner, could and should be used in any capacity Plax would be.

    Raideraholic,

Yes, I’m watching the same games you are. And in game one I saw an injured long snapper with no backup on the roster, which would doom the ’85 Bears, let alone us.

In game two I saw an offense where seemingly most of our star players were just off. Palmer was 50%, he’d missed guys who were wide open all day. McFadden took a pass right off the numbers on a play that would have been a touchdown, a pivotal touchdown in a game that was close and where momentum was everything. The play calling is not be blame in these instances.

To his credit it was his first game action. Briesel, and Cooper I do think are liabilites. I always thought Barnes was career backup. his replacement Young, who knows yet? LT is solid, and looks to be so for some time. Solai is a beast. But opponents D-line is getting to far into our backfield, no hats on linebackers. So no lanes to be had for a northbound runner like Dmac.

We can talk about schemes and coaching forever but I think we have to deal with the reality that this isn’t a talented team. We got by last year because the AFC West was a very weak division, none of the teams were good. McKenzie had to get rid of Wimbley and Rout because they were way overpaid and didn’t have the draft picks or cap space to bring in better talent. We don’t want to hear it but this is a rebuid project. It’s going to awhile to bring in the right players to fit the new schemes and find difference makers. The lack of difference makers is the biggest issue with the Raiders. Name a difference maker on Defense? On offense who is there beyond McFadden behind a below average offensive line? When the only top players at their position are your punter, kicker and long snapper you are not going to be a good team no matter who is coaching.

Just traded Gronk for Big Ben and Dwyer in my fantasy league. Expecting huge numbers from them both. Big Ben big first half numbers, 250yds 3 TD’s. Dwyer solid numbers in second half clock eating mode, 75 yds on 16 carries, 1 TD. That way when we lose, I’ll have atleast won a meaningless Fantasy game. Of course I sure as hell hope I’m dead wrong!!

Good post, but i contend that there is a case to still be made that we could be explosive on offense.

Palmer i believe is still more than capable of getting the job done at a high level and DMOORE has proved he is a stud at WR. Meyers looked good last Sunday-no drops and 6 cathces. Than u still have DMAC…who has the potential to be as explosive as anyone in the league…we’re all waiting to see it actually happen.

Will they do it? That’s the question.
