Raiders sign cornerback from Packers practice squad
By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, September 19th, 2012 at 10:48 am in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders filled the void on their 53-man roster by signing cornerback Brandian Ross from the Green Bay Packers practice squad.
Ross initially made the Packers 53-man roster, but he got cut a week later when a veteran player returned from a one-game suspension.
Teams are permitted to sign players from another team’s practice squad, provided that player is added to the new team’s 53-man roster.
The Raiders had an opening as a result of waiving long-snapper Nick Guess on Tuesday.
Ross was signed by the Packers in 2011 as an undrafted free agent out of Youngstown State. He spent the season on their practice squad.
The Raiders also re-signed defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga to their practice squad.

Here’s your Sterling Moore update (Source: http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4730013/defensive-snaps-moore-over-dowling).
Played 30 of 64 snaps vs. Cardinals.
ANALYSIS: A change in the Patriots’ sub packages stood out, with CB Ras-I Dowling replaced by CB Sterling Moore in the nickel. One line of thinking was the that Dowling (6-1, 210) would be a good matchup against the size of Larry Fitzgerald (6-3, 218), but the Patriots had more confidence in Moore (5-10, 200) joining top cornerbacks Kyle Arrington (5-10, 195) and Devin McCourty (5-10, 195) in the sub.

The Raiders should make 3 open spots on their 53 man roster by removing Kelly, Seymour and Huff. Does anyone know if Sterling Moore is still a CB for the Cheaters, I really thought he was great. I wished that Reggie would have saved money on cap by not bringing back Kelly and Seymour; that money could have maybe gotten us CB Tracy Porter, he made nice bring on the ball against the Falcons and came close to an interception.

Fire Greg Knapp
The Raiders deserve better. Greg Knapp has proven he cannot win against defensive coordinators in the NFL. His route concepts don’t work, he doesn’t put our players in the best position to win, & his playbook does not emphasize the run or the vertical game.”

All,
Encourage u to listen to this Rod Woodson, Bill Romanowski & Greg Papa on 95.7 FM yesterday. http://957thegame.com/topic/play_window.php?audioType=Episode&audioId=6037541 They talk about the zone blocking and how bad the Raiders have looked. They especially talk about how ZBS isn’t a fit for our OL and DMAC. Not good news for the team. They all think we start 0-5 before our first win. It’s just sad that a team that was 8-8 last year is now in the race for a top 5 pick
=======================
Whenever former Raiders come on to criticize the new management, you know its going to be “on” in that locker room…Allen is losing the team a little more…and with the Niners blowing up on the other side of the bay , the pressure will only increase.
=====================================
Ridiculous.
You really think players give a rats patootie on what Romo says? Or that the locker room is going to be “on” because of comments Woodson or Papa says?
You are aware that most don’t have the time, nor take the time to listen to talk shows?
Yeah, they know we’re POed. Goes without saying. Unless a reporter shoves a mic in their face, asking about it, most players have no idea what Romo or anyone has to say.

Its always hard being fans when the glarring issues on gameday seemingly are so blatantly obvious.
Talent and depth are issues and effort for some (mcclain, huff) but the execution is terrible, scheme is vanilla … just when I thought our defense was going to be multiple and exciting.

Barnes left the Week 2 loss to the Dolphins early and was quickly ruled out for the day. Willie Smith, a former undrafted free agent that the Raiders just picked up off the street on Sept. 1, is expected to start on Carson Palmer’s blind side in Week 3.

Best rookie coach ever?
“I thought the job Jim and his staff did last year was not only the best job in the league, but maybe the best ever in the NFL,” Madden said. “He had no offseason, no minicamps, no free agency. Then to get that close to the Super Bowl – that was one of the outstanding coaching jobs in NFL history.”
One year later, confronting a more challenging schedule, logic suggested Harbaugh might float back to earth. Then the 49ers opened 2012 by conquering Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford, two of the league’s most dangerous quarterbacks.

Give Cliff Harris a shot, maybe it clicks and he makes the best of it. I think the dude has potential, as much as the scrubs we’re working out from these Div I/FCS schools.
==========
Harris from Oregon?
I thought he got drafted?
—————————————————–
Yes, from Oregon. Was signed as undrafted to Philly, but was cut prior to 53 man roster. Is a free agent. I think he has mental issues, but thought he was an explosive playmaker at the college level, and if coached up, and the reality of NFL vs CFL sets in maybe he makes something happen for himself.
==========
I like what I saw in Cliff at Oregon.
We should def. bring him in for a look.
I’m rolling w/ you on this one.
Cliff Harris pick up the phone and give Reggie a call.

Yeah, sadly it makes some sense, so can rule it out for this orginization. Despite the risks versus reward at a low cost. SMH

Honestly, I think Huff @ corner is our best shot, but even then it’s not any good. I just have to believe he’s gotta be better then these practice squad guys. Even without reps and practice. Gio and/or Mitchell could do equally as bad if not better then Huff has done this far, same goes for Huff at corner versus Hanson/Lee/Practice squad player.
September 19th, 2012 at 11:35 am
0-2 teams have won Super Bowls.
Our offense this year is ranked 15th in the league, from 9th last year. While admittedly worse, it’s still one of the better offenses in the league. Stats don’t lie. Nobody’s getting fired.

To his credit it was his first game action. Briesel, and Cooper I do think are liabilites. I always thought Barnes was career backup. his replacement Young, who knows yet? LT is solid, and looks to be so for some time. Solai is a beast. But opponents D-line is getting to far into our backfield, no hats on linebackers. So no lanes to be had for a northbound runner like Dmac.

We can talk about schemes and coaching forever but I think we have to deal with the reality that this isn’t a talented team. We got by last year because the AFC West was a very weak division, none of the teams were good. McKenzie had to get rid of Wimbley and Rout because they were way overpaid and didn’t have the draft picks or cap space to bring in better talent. We don’t want to hear it but this is a rebuid project. It’s going to awhile to bring in the right players to fit the new schemes and find difference makers. The lack of difference makers is the biggest issue with the Raiders. Name a difference maker on Defense? On offense who is there beyond McFadden behind a below average offensive line? When the only top players at their position are your punter, kicker and long snapper you are not going to be a good team no matter who is coaching.

Good post, but i contend that there is a case to still be made that we could be explosive on offense.
Palmer i believe is still more than capable of getting the job done at a high level and DMOORE has proved he is a stud at WR. Meyers looked good last Sunday-no drops and 6 cathces. Than u still have DMAC…who has the potential to be as explosive as anyone in the league…we’re all waiting to see it actually happen.
