DHB hospitalized with neck injury after KO

Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey was taken off on a cart after taking a blow to the head in the end zone early in the fourth quarter of the Raiders’ game against the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday at O.co Coliseum.
It was announced in the press box that Heyward-Bey had been knocked unconscious and was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley with a neck injury.
On first-and-10 from the 16-yard line, quarterback Carson Palmer attempted to hit Heyward-Bey on a post pattern, but the wide receiver took a helmet-to-facemask hit from cornerback Ryan Mundy with the ball falling incomplete.
After the initial hit, Heyward-Bey fell to the ground hard with his helmet first _ essentially taking a second blow.
No penalty was called on the play.

Guys it never was the scheme anyway. It was his playcalling he finally let Palmer play to his strengths that’s all. This will springboard the team to play better offensively now the defense still needs to improve by leaps and bounds. There is enough talent on this team to compete. Defense finally started to make some plays. Definitely need to get more pressure from the edge. Maybe they see that they can use Burris more in that role or bring in Andre Carter if he has anything left.

Im also going to be taking a hard look at our WRs. Who is dogging it on routes and whatnot.
LB play. RoMac is still missing gaps.
Saftey play.
And OLine play. It got better this week. I want to see why. Our guys werent getting blown up on every play. Even on the 2 yard runs I was encouraged by the fact that we were moving the line of scrimmage.
The tape always reveals a lot more than the live footage.

Yeah but the Raiders starting CB’s are second tier. The backups are not much of a step down.
Polamalu is the best safety in the NFL. Harrison is one of the best LB’s in the NFL.

I’d say he’s inconsistent. Sometimes he’s there, sometimes I have no idea what he’s doing.
His overall play is a million times better than in years past. But he still makes too many mistakes for whatever reason to be considered a top flight MLB.

there is/was something wrong with the offense. If you think they ran the same plays today as the first 2 games you arent washing the games. The running game was better, but the offense was not just ZBS, they mixed in the no huddle, draw plays, wide receiver screens, and audlibles. All which were not used in the first 2 games

If he’s being doubled and RoMac runs into the back of him instead of the proper gap, its hard for TK to get any relief. I use that example cause it happens frequently.
If TK is to get some single coverage, our LBs have to play much better.
Then once he’s being singled we can then get critical of him.

I’d say he’s inconsistent. Sometimes he’s there, sometimes I have no idea what he’s doing.
His overall play is a million times better than in years past. But he still makes too many mistakes for whatever reason to be considered a top flight MLB.

ALTHOUGH, handling loses is one thing. Handling success is another. ie, Cowboys & Raiders in years past.

The running game was better, but the offense was not just ZBS, they mixed in the no huddle, draw plays, wide receiver screens, and audlibles. All which were not used in the first 2 games

Much of the Raiders success in their crescendo of the 80’s came from the remarkable abilities of Marcus Allen. Much has been made of the feud between Davis and Allen, yet little is known of the factual basis of that feud, such as Marcus had an affair with OJ Simpson’s wife Nicole Brown, which probably was untrue.
I, myself, talked once with Marcus Allen at the Hamburger Hamlet in Brentwood, in LA. He was a great guy, very friendly and open; I saw him having dinner there alone and approached his table. I thanked him for his great running and he invited me to sit down, and bought me a Heineken beer. We chatted for about 15 minutes. This was after Bo Jackson joined the team.
The following excerpt illuminates the true cause of the feud between Allen and Davis, and underscores what I have said about Davis numerous times. After Coach Flores retired in 1987 and Allen left to play for the Chiefs, the Raiders began their decline which has not yet bottomed out.
“Socially Allen traveled in lofty circles. He was a regular guest at Simpson’s Brentwood estate with Al Cowlings and other sports luminaries such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Ahmad Rashad, and Lynn Swann. But his success was leading him to trouble as he gained more attention from the media and the Raiders team and owner got less. Raiders maverick owner Al Davis was becoming increasingly aware that one of his players was being singled out above the team. Allen continued his individual brilliance the following year in 1984, leading the league in touchdowns with 18 and gaining 1,168 yards, but the Raiders faltered. By the end of the season Davis was openly calling Allen a selfish player to his coaching staff.”
The Raiders had little success since then, notwithstanding the Gruden years. AD got rid of Gruden, of course, since Gruden had garnered more attention than AD, a situation the rapidly declining AD could never tolerate. The subsequent decade saw Raiders’ management guided by AD, a literal madman in the throes of dementia.
I am shocked but not surprised that Allen has the class to light the torch this afternoon.
Allen has class and apparently holds no ill will.
Now the current ills of the club are still on Raider management and that management must be extinguished.
Fire the freakish spawn and his spawnor. Wash away AD (BFH) forever.

Don’t get fooled by ZBS and Knapp ain’t good yet Lechler stopped out kicking his coverage and put some height on the ball, the onside kick was great call, we wasn’t stopping Steelers from going 80 yds, so what diff does 50 make? We need to fix out coverage cushion, Huff played hard, but couldn’t handle the quick WR, I was looking for Mitchell to get that hit back for DHB.

I know. Refs would always find calls against the Raiders in the past. In seasons past, win or lose, I would say 90% of the time I felt like the refs had a profound negative impact on the Raiders. it’s going to be hard to limit alienhead. he’s still very poised and moves the ball well. he almost came back and beat HOU .. and they have the best D in the league.
more forced turnovers and caused fumbles will be the key for us to keep Manning off the field.

Yeah, I don’t miss the old Refs either. Those guys were the biggest jokes I have ever seen. Ticky tack bullSh@t calles against us, every freakin week. This is more akin to the mid 90’s refs or college type contact. I think its a great relief from the wussification of the NFL that we have been stuck with for the past 7-8 years now.
Let em play is my take, however, lets not keep missing attempted assassination calls..

Ya he looked sluggish after making that 3rd down catch to give us a first on one of the final 2 drives. Got hit in the helmet while going down or maybe already on the ground. 2 cheap shots and that guy will get hit hard this week.

Cooper is scrappy. loved that jump off sides to catch the defender in the neutral zone. i do commend him for his job of last year and through this year(for the most part). i sure hope Bergstrom can replace him after this year, because Coop is almost done.

This game should give the team confidence going into Denver. The defense has a long way to go. Penalties are down, it’s a bit misleading having replacement ref’s.

Come on now. It was one game. Palmer did some good things like call the plays. The heart of the Steeler D Polamalu and Harrsion were out. Palmer would have not had that type of game with them in. Raiders would have lost.

You know one thing I do realize, although what happened to DHB was just wrong, we don’t get bull… calls with these replacement refs as we use to with the regulars refs. Makes me think. Anybody remember bull.. calls against the raiders the last season or the season before or before that? These replacements have just been missing the calls or are not properly trained… Makes me think.
