Raiders sign So’oto, waive Ihenacho

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, September 25th, 2012 at 2:22 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders signed former Green Bay Packers linebacker Vic So’oto Tuesday and waived Carl Iheanacho, the club announced.

So’oto, 6-foot-2, 255 pounds, played in seven games with the Packers last season after being an undrafted free agent out of Brigham Young. He was placed on injured reserve Aug. 31 with an ankle injury and released Sept. 10 following an injury settlement.

A second cousin of Junior Seau, So’oto had seven tackles and one sack for Green Bay last season, playing on special teams and defense.

Ihenacho, out of San Jose State, a defensive end by trade, moved to linebacker this season and played sparingly through three games.

The Raiders also released defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga from their practice squad.

Wide receiver Tori Gurley sent out a Tweet saying that he signed with the Raiders. A team spokesperson said no announcement was forthcoming Tuesday.

I’m I the only 1 who things it’s ridiculous that some of the replacment refs are from the Lingerie Football League

  • PurpleDrank81

I apologize read the article wrong. ! of the replacment refs was from the Lingerie League. An actual Ref that was fired from the Lingerie League for being sub-par. I can only imagine where the other refs come from.

Does anyone honestly think our new coaching regime will ever give Terrelle Pryor a chance to start at QB? I mean after Palmer time is done
    ============================================

Pryor needs a LOT of work. And playing on the scout team is not the type of work Pryor needs. So Pryor is in kind of a bad situation. Carson Palmer is an overall number one and has played like an overall number one the last six or so games with the Raiders so there is little to no chance that Pryor is going to get a chance to move up.

The best thing that can happen to Terrel Pryor is he is going to have to put in A LOT of work in the offseason on his own, and with NFL players to try to develop his game. In the preseason he is going to have to shine. His time will come eventually, and with a lot of extra work and preparation, he will get his chance. That’s the best Pryor and his fans can hope for right now.

The issue on the calls is what it is. The big issue is safety. DHB hit was a travesty that there was no flag.

Labor has a legal right to collective bargain and management has a right to accept/not accept the terms.

Given the Raiders precarious financial situation, I could see where Mark Davis is not too keen on paying out anymore money.

The fans are largely tapped out….too many “I can’t afford to take a family to the game” complaints..

The players aren’t taking less and the owners probably not willing to take a hit to bottomlines given new stadium debt etc….

    Its a tough situation

The game is just to fast for these guys, for starters.

Couple that with a lack of understanding of the rules and Travesty is inevitable.

You can definitely add TP to the list of people who miss Hue. You know Hue would of already had TP in some plays.

  • PurpleDrank81

Calls/Safety all have to do with these replacement refs. Thank God DHB was okay but are we going to let this happen to someone else? I dont care who they play for they dont deserve to be put at risk because the owners/goodell or ever is holding this up want to act like tough blow hards. Pay the Refs the money and move on. I love this game and I played this game and help coach this game all in as most would say semi form but I live football I breathe football..Schit Im a grown man and still have a picture of Stabler on my wall and it disgusts me that Goodell and the owners are jeapordizing the players health in the Best Professional Sports League in the world..

I’m not privy to details, but in terms of real $$$, it’s couch change based upon the NFL P&L statement.

Owners are Greedy, and employees see the P&L, and want to take advantage.

It’s a BS situation. These aren’t coal miners being paid in company script.

    They are part time employees.

The owners could easily pay and don’t because their ego is Bigger than the sport.

    RaiderLen,

I think the big issue is the pensions. Referees want the defined benefit pension.

The same pension system that most organizations have moved from and the same system that bankrupted the Autos and many municipalities across Cali.

The owners could and should pay. However, there is a risk to them that everytime someone comes and asks for more money, their margins shrink and over time that could be a problem, unless fans are willing to pay more……the shrinking margin issue has the Raiders long-term stability in Oakland at some risk.

    True enough…

Would you be willing to see the season postponed or cancelled outright over this referee issue?

Would players be willing to give up a year’s salary over this?

The answer to those questions is why the league will allow this to go on

Of course the advertisers are basically negotiated on a highest bidder process.

So the League is fine as long as advertisers are willing to pay….fans are willing to pay for tickets, NFL Network, Direct Tv Ticket….

But once that money starts to slow, which it has shown some strain in select markets…then there can be slow march to financial problems.

Agreed. I think the NFL is in a dangerous place. Just like the Autos and even government, the worst decisions are made when everyone is flush with cash with no visible end in sight.

All good things come to an end.

Its ridiculous that teams have to build these Taj Mahals just to keep a team in a city when the old stadiums, like the Coliseum, do just fine…….having to pay $300 just to watch on cable or pay damm near $100 per person to go see a game…..it can run its course.

Players, owners, referees, media….they all have to realize there is an end if they don’t adjust.

We need to run, run, run the ball this Sunday to win, period.

We’ve beaten the Donks 4 straight times, all 4 times we ran the ball down their throat.

Today they just announced starting middle linebacker, Joe mays is suspended this Sunday. The Donks are already with out DJ Williams and their back up LB is out with a concussion.

We will kill them with running the ball. I expect to see more of Taiwan Jones and Goodson this Sunday!
