Barksdale spotted walking to his car

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, September 26th, 2012 at 1:01 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Beat writer Jerry McDonald spotted offensive tackle Joseph Barksdale carrying several items to his car while I was on the practice field a few minutes ago.
Word of this sight came a few minutes after a Raiders spokesman said Barksdale still is on the Raiders 53-man roster, even though a report Tuesday night said the Raiders waived Barksdale.
It’s possible that the Raiders simply are waiting until later this afternoon to make the move official, thereby pushing back the window for when teams can claim Barksdale off waivers.
Either way, we should know more this afternoon.
What is certain is, wide receiver Tori Gurley is with the Raiders, and he is practicing today. The Raiders signed him to their practice squad earlier today.
Gurley is wearing No. 19. The Raiders now have access to Gurley and Travionte Session on their practice squad if they need immediate help at receiver.

– Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (concussion, neck strain), right offensive tackle Khalif Barnes (groin), cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot) and defensive tackle Richard Seymour (knee) are not practicing today.
It remains uncertain whether Heyward-Bey, Barned and Spencer will be able to return from their injuries in time for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.
Seymour likely is being given the day off to rest his chronically sore knee.

– Tight end Brandon Myers is practicing today, only three days after he suffered a concussion against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
That makes sense, given coach Dennis Allen said Monday that seemed to be doing well on the heels of receiving a helmet-to-helmet hit at the end of a reception.
No word yet on whether Myers has passed the league-mandated tests for players that receive a concussion. However, it appears as if Myers is well on his way to recovering in time to play against the Broncos.

– Wide receivers Juron Criner (ankle) and Rod Streater (eye) are practicing at what appears to be full strength.
That’s good news for the Raiders, with Heyward-Bey a long-shot to make it back in time for the Broncos game.
Criner wasn’t active for the Steelers game. Streater got poked in the eye.

SO versatile, SO young, So hungry.. he bring the passion and the football player aspect REGGIE and D.A. are talking about

If not for Burris pressuring Big Ben we may have never gotten the ball back.

Reggies guys had a huge hand in winning the game on Sunday.

Nobody expected week 1 results.. because it takes time to GEL and build a TEAM.. not just collect talent like Raider fans are used to. Most of us are not used to real football players and the TEAM ASPECT.

    Reggies guys

Pat Lee Forced fumble, WHeeler 11 tackles 2 Forced fumbles and 1 fumble reovery (HUGE), Joselio hansen slot corner this week and Fumble Recovery.

Mike Goodsoon (HUGE HUGE Kick return) 50 yards getting us into our territory down by 10 points.

Lets see else what is in store. Reminder REggie is doing this all on the fly. Wait till he has a few years.. Alot more $$$ to spend.. and wait for it.. DRAFT PICKS. He has already shown not afraid to get rid of one of his (stupar) He is about building a team

Reggie has still kept plenty of Al’s guys DMAC, VELHDERE, DMOORE (who he called his number 1 WR ) AUSBERRY, TE #82, HUFF, Branch (Contract extension) Marcel Reece (Contract extension) etc.

I know its easy.. oh so easy to look at the negative though.. so go for it

    ________________________________________________________

If your logic is correct….and I believe it is….if Reggie had a huge hand in winning than he also had a HUGE hand in losing…

    Take note:

    we are 1-2

    ———–

Your logic is to ignore the fact that it was largely Al’s guys who cost us those two wins.

I see that the retard patrol is starting to weigh in. I’ll be calling it a day soon.

Here is an interesting factoid you won’t read on twitter….

OUR Oakland Raider’s offense has aligned in 11 personnel 1/3 of their total snaps this season.

Of that third, in 11 Personnel….we throw the ball 95% of the time….

MAYBE REGGIE SHOULD FOCUS MORE ATTENTION OF THE USE OF THE PERSONNEL HE HAS RATHER THAN TRYING TO REPLACE IT!

    But what do I know?

I believe someone here called me a moron this morning….

    Gentlemen….as you were.

    ——————

So its Reggie’s job to say who plays? Isnt that the crap we just had to deal with the last few decades?

Reggies job is to bring in people. Its the DA’s job to decide who plays in the game.

No wonder you got called a moron this morning.

  • alex7

I’m pretty sure mathematically you can’t get to 95% with that small of a sample size.

How often have they lined up in that specific alignment?

  • PurpleDrank81

Mannnnnnnnnnn Now I’m anxious to see what Mckenzie and Allen are upto…There usually noth this secretive… I wonder what they plan on doing.

  • RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit

ok were 1-2… but like i said it takes time to build a team.

week 3 they responded to what D.A. is coaching.

  • DJ Johnny

    Guess the “special” announcement.

If Reggie hadn’t already said he wasn’t interested in PLAXICO I would say it’s that…but…i’ll go with Andre Carter.

  • backstageatapuppetshow

    Raider employees take note:

    You can be replaced!

  • RAIDERMAN99

Reggie’s willingness to part company quickly with high draft picks that aren’t producing should have Slowlando worried.

Tomlinson’s gutsy decison to go for it on 4th down from his own side of the field was partly a function of sensing the Raid offense was rolling and was going to likely win the game if given another posession.

But it was also a way of saying that I can gain a few yards running right at the heart of the Raider D any time it’s needed.

This came immediately after Slo made a good stop on a similar attempt.

Tomlinson challenged the DT’s and Slo to do it again – and won.

Any of you film gurus want to explain what 55 was thinking/doing on the 4th down conversion ?

  • backstageatapuppetshow

    This team should be 3-0…..

Youre upset that he’s not blowing up a double team? Seriously, look at what youre asking for. If he’s doubled, someone else is singled and its there job to step up. Plus, even when he’s doubled he is still not getting pushed back and allowing the RB to get his lane.

    =================

No, not blowing up the double team. Holding his ground and sealing off his gap, which is a nose tackle’s job.

He’s taken out of the play when he gets double-teamed. Pushed back off the line of scrimmage. I can’t really fault him for that because he’s only playing NT because he’s the only player the Raiders have who is anywhere close to that, but this also happens occasionally when he gets singled – especially late in games – which makes him a liability.

Again, I’m just not seeing what you’re seeing. Watch the Steelers’ 3rd-and-short conversions from last weekend and you should be able to see what I’m talking about. Those situations in particular are what earned him a low grade for that game.
    ==============================================

I have to say I disagree with a lot of what you are posting. You say Kelly commands a huge salary. Actually compared to guys like Woolfork, Ngata, Ratliff, and other DT’s he isn’t. Davis knew the price for premium defensive linemen was going up and he locked Kelly in at a fairly reasonable price years ago before the prices skyrocketed.

2ndly and this drives me crazier than anything is the “we don’t have a true NT on the roster” spiel. While technically that might be true, is Jay Ratliff a true NT at 295 lbs? He has been a pro bowl NT for years. I know some of you have been pining for a 355 lb NT for years and years. However, once again, the NT position has been falling in value and falling in value. In todays NFL you MUST get pressure from the tackle positions. Most true NT’s don’t.

Lastly, and I have said this for years as well, it is the LB crew that dictates the run defense in most systems unless the DL is getting blown off the ball. The lst three weeks of the season, the LB’s have played much better than they have in years here. And the run defense is much better. The Dline has remained the same. Case closed.

  • ottocrat

Wow, that’s some headline. Here’s the next post: “Barksdale spotted taking a dump in the men’s room of the Hegenberger In ‘n Out”

  • alex7

Even easier to give Reggie credit when you realize he’s having to pick guys up from the absolute scrap heap. It’s not like he’s yet had a chance to use a full draft or entire season to analyze need/available, upcoming free agents, trades, etc.

Complaining about Reggie’s pickups so far is akin to telling someone their girlfriend is ugly, despite them having to pick their girlfriend from a field of ten 60-year old Iranians.

  • PurpleDrank81

Barksdale traded for a conditional pick or the Raiders have signed Andre Carter…. Thats my best guess

  • Marks hair

I just hope knapp calls another solid game.. we threw past the sticks on 3rd. And we ran up the middle followed by playaction.. plus we threw fewer passes to the los.. but its really gonna come down to takeaways.. can we get some?

We have aligned in 11 personnel 64 times in 176 snaps including penalty plays….

    Of those 64 snaps in 11 personnel….we passed the football 61 times….

    55 drop back passes
    3 (3 Step Drop Passes)
    2 Screens

No Play Action….but why would we? We only ran the ball 3 dam times!

    Sample SIZE THAT!

  • RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit

This team should be 3-0 and we should have went to the playoffs last year and won the superbowl. Doesnt work that way.

btw i think the new player could come off the Practice squad.. they just havent decided who yet. I bet its chewka.. or Sessions

  • alex7

solid point, though I’ll add that playing more zone defense and facing the ball also helps the run D.

Picked the wrong gap. The RB ran a misdirection. Its unclear to me whether it was designed or not. Burris was on his left and had the left gap and on RoMac’s right side there was nobody, Wheeler was down on the line. We had nearly the whole team on the line of scrimmage. RoMac was being very aggressive and just bit the misdirection.

Well designed play by Pitt and well executed.

I’ll be the first to say, he’s been inconsistent. He’s improving (as Burris gets better, it seems RoMac does as well). RoMac has trouble trusting his teammates.

But the play youre talking about was just a tough stop considering the alignment we were in. Great play call by Pitt.

I think its fair to say many of us in here overate the positves of our players. I mean there were 50+ Wrs who caught more TDs than Dmoore last year, 60+ who caught more than DHB, we have an undrafted free agent in Streater who hasnt done much, a late round draft pick in Criner whose been in the trainers room for most of the year, hagen who was has never put up big numbers, and many of you turn your head at the thought of bring in Plax who caught 8tds last year. something no Raider has done since 2005.
according to Cork, we are 6 mil under cap, plax will only need a 1 yr deal. to me its a no brainer.

I know..it’s to announce the signing of Britt Schittznikberger to the practice squad.

Britt Schittznikberger DB Cal Poly. 5’7 160

Negatives: Runs slow, as evidenced by his 5.68 40 time. Laborious in his side to side movement. Does not tackle well. Seems almost scared of contact and avoids it all costs. Bad hands. Character concerns resulting from multiple arrests including armed robbery of a Fresno 7/11 convenience store in Oct. 2010 as well as attempted murder of a drug dealer in Sept. 2011. Later acquitted when witnesses refused to testify. Shows of lack of respect and/or even concern for the game or his teammates. Frequently leaves threatening notes on teammates lockers for no apparent reason. Once on a special teams play during a kickoff he inexpilicably ran straight to the sidelines immiediately following the kickoff and laid down on the ground for no reason.

In senior yr. was ejected from game aginst San Diego Junior College for carrying handgun into defensive huddle.

    Positives: None.

  • alex7

Plaxico yards per catch last few years:

    19, 16, 15, 14, 13, 13.

I don’t think you sign a WR in decline unless you’re the early 2000 Raiders who are already on the cusp of a Super Bowl.

This is a 6-10 evaluation/foundation season. Eval the youngsters.
