Barksdale spotted walking to his car

Beat writer Jerry McDonald spotted offensive tackle Joseph Barksdale carrying several items to his car while I was on the practice field a few minutes ago.
Word of this sight came a few minutes after a Raiders spokesman said Barksdale still is on the Raiders 53-man roster, even though a report Tuesday night said the Raiders waived Barksdale.
It’s possible that the Raiders simply are waiting until later this afternoon to make the move official, thereby pushing back the window for when teams can claim Barksdale off waivers.
Either way, we should know more this afternoon.
What is certain is, wide receiver Tori Gurley is with the Raiders, and he is practicing today. The Raiders signed him to their practice squad earlier today.
Gurley is wearing No. 19. The Raiders now have access to Gurley and Travionte Session on their practice squad if they need immediate help at receiver.

– Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (concussion, neck strain), right offensive tackle Khalif Barnes (groin), cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot) and defensive tackle Richard Seymour (knee) are not practicing today.
It remains uncertain whether Heyward-Bey, Barned and Spencer will be able to return from their injuries in time for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.
Seymour likely is being given the day off to rest his chronically sore knee.

– Tight end Brandon Myers is practicing today, only three days after he suffered a concussion against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
That makes sense, given coach Dennis Allen said Monday that seemed to be doing well on the heels of receiving a helmet-to-helmet hit at the end of a reception.
No word yet on whether Myers has passed the league-mandated tests for players that receive a concussion. However, it appears as if Myers is well on his way to recovering in time to play against the Broncos.

– Wide receivers Juron Criner (ankle) and Rod Streater (eye) are practicing at what appears to be full strength.
That’s good news for the Raiders, with Heyward-Bey a long-shot to make it back in time for the Broncos game.
Criner wasn’t active for the Steelers game. Streater got poked in the eye.

it’s been 3 weeks. Again, 3. You don’t look at tendencies after 2 weeks and apply them week 3.

Otherwise the Steelers might have had more success against that alignment, right? :)

If anything, you purposely establish patterns early on to get opponents thinking one thing, then change them after a while.
We’re not talented enough to run a Patriots-style ever-evolving offense week to week.

some fans are gonna be asking himself.. I thought Only reggie brings in GREEN BAY GUYS..

I thought he doenst bring in “NAMES”

ten sacks last year for carter.. if it wasnt for his injury he would have been a big time FA and far to much money for the RAiders to spend on. I think we got a deal if he can generate some russh

If Plax is a no brainer, why have 31 other teams passed on him. No, lets not let our youth develope, lets go get this has been name you recognize. You think we should be desperate enough to sign a fool dumb enough to tuck a gun into his sweatpants and shoot himself. Just what the Raiders need, more idiot players. Your the NO BRAINER.

That sounds about right. He’s a troll during his day job as well.

  • alex7

umm, I’m pretty sure roughly 248,00 Raider fans “called” us signing Andre Carter at some point.

Don’t get too excited though. I’m guessing if he was physically close to his Patriots-ability someone would have nabbed him by now.

That said, ANY edge rush at all will be an improvement over what we have now (disappointed in Shonasty thus far).

I wonder if we dont have one of the more active blogs in the NFL?

It seems like there are a ton of Raider forums and they are all very active when compared to other teams.

Carter??? Wtf took so long??? Ive been screaming for a rushend since before the draft.

  • DennisAllensVisor

Welcome Andre Carter to the Nation.

  • YoungAmerican

2ndly and this drives me crazier than anything is the “we don’t have a true NT on the roster” spiel. While technically that might be true, is Jay Ratliff a true NT at 295 lbs? He has been a pro bowl NT for years. I know some of you have been pining for a 355 lb NT for years and years. However, once again, the NT position has been falling in value and falling in value. In todays NFL you MUST get pressure from the tackle positions. Most true NT’s don’t.

    =======================

Has nothing to do with his measurables, has EVERYTHING to do with his skill set. Doesn’t bother me if the NT is sub-300 as long as he can occupy 2 blockers and still hold his gap. The best ones can rush the passer too, but that’s a rare animal and I certainly don’t expect the Raiders to just up and find one.

But Kelly just isn’t that guy. When he’s on, he can penetrate and cause problems in the backfield. But clogging running lanes has never been his bag, and lately he’s been wearing out late in games.

    Green Bay rejects ?

    I guess that’s accurate.

Practically any signing that goes down now is for a player that’s been ‘rejected’ for one reason or another.

The only concern I have about RM’s prediliction for signing GB rejects is it might be an indication that he’s not as knowledgable about other rosters as he could be.

    But that’s just speculation.

He did snag Smith from the Skins.

The amount of signings of ex-Packers tells us he’s comfortable signing guys he has first hand knowledge of and maybe not quite up to speed or as comfortable evaluating players from other teams.

Regardless of what accounts for all the GB signings, it’s not good that we’re in a situation where we’re scrambling to fill out our roster.

But it is good that RM is taking ACTIONS to address problems rather than standing pat.

  • alex7

    guess we’ll just disagree backstage.

Most of the coaches and statistical-people I know wouldn’t bother with a small sample-size tendency. Too much noise to spend time actually assuming it’ll hold.

Wait a while, see if those tendencies stick over a longer period of time, then you can use resources in attacking it.

Either he helps our non-existent DE playmaking.

Either way, its a signal to our DE’s from the Reggime that they need to pick it up.

streater is an undrafted rookie FA which means every gm passed on him too. yet he started for us. Based on your logic your calling management/coaches idiots. Criner is a late round draft pick, which means all gms passed on him in the early rounds. Plax catched Tds, yep he had 8 of them just last yr, something no raider has done since 2005. i get the concern about attitude but he isnt a long term investment and can help us this year, especially in the red zone.
