Final: Broncos 37, Raiders 6

The Denver Broncos reclaimed their home field with a vengeance Sunday in a 37-6 win over the Raiders before 76,013 fans at Sports Authority Field.
Quarterback Peyton Manning, who had nothing to do with the previous four losses to Oakland in Denver, orchestrated the win operating mostly out of a no-huddle offense the Raiders expected but could do nothing to stop.
Manning completed 30 of 38 passes for 338 yards and touchdown passes of 22 yards to Joel Dreessen, 17 yards to Eric Decker and 14 yards to Lance Ball.
Running back Willis McGahee gained 122 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown, and Matt Prater added field goals of 21 and 53 yards as the Broncos improved to 2-2.
Oakland managed field goals of 38 and 24 yards by Sebastian Janikowski, both drives which would have required touchdowns to have any meaningful chance at staying in the game.
The Raiders fall to 1-3, tied with Kansas City for last place in the AFC West, heading into their bye week. Denver is a game back of the first-place San Diego Chargers (3-1).
Coach Dennis Allen and his staff will have an additional week to figure out how to shore up a defense that has been shredded in each of the last three games against Miami, Pittsburgh and Denver.
Coming up after the bye is a difficult road assignment against the Atlanta Falcons and quarterback Matt Ryan, one of the NFL’s top home quarterbacks, throwing to receivers Roddy White, Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez.
The Broncos gave the Raiders some false hope late in the first half with a fake field goal attempt went awry, with place kicker Matt Prater throwing hopelessly incomplete on fourth-and-1 and giving the Raiders at the 36-yard line.
A 37-yard pass from quarterback Carson Palmer to Denarius Moore got the ball to the 13-yard line and Oakland eventually reached the 6. Palmer, however, threw incomplete on third-and-3 from the 6 and Janikowski came in to kick his second ifeld goal, this one from 24 yards out.
Any spark the Raiders had from that play quickly dissipated as Denver scored three touchdowns in the second quarter, a period Oakland has been outscored 55-7 this season.
Oakland’s plan going into the Denver game was simply enough in theory.
– Get Darren McFadden off and running against the Broncos, a team which he had gutted for 508 yards in their last four meetings.
– Get a lead, controlling the ball in the process, in hopes of keeping Manning from getting into a rhythm with the Denver no-huddle offense and keeping the Broncos pass rush in check.
The Raiders failed miserably on both counts.
McFadden had 15 yards on his first three carries but did little thereafter, finishing with 34 yards on 13 carries.
The Broncos established the tempo in the first quarter even if they hadn’t yet taken control of the game, controlling the ball for 11:15 with Manning-directed drives of 80 and 77 yards, the first ending in the 22-yard strike to Dreessen and the second on a 21-yard Prater field goal.
In between those two possessions, the Raiders managed a 60-yard drive of their own, but stalled at the 20-yard line, with Janikowski converting a 38-yard field goal.

This will be the most embarassing Raider team of all time. I now will concentrate on the college game & potential draft picks. The past two games were televised locally here in the PNW. Save for the next debacle against Denver on Thursday Night Football I don’t foercast watching another down this year. Like Gertrud Stein said of Oakland, “there’s no there there.”
Yhey’re not even an NFL caliber squad. Holes everywhere. They should draft a LT & move Veldheer, their best lineman offensive & defensively to RT. What an embarassing sieve that position is. . .

Nice to see that after our worse loss in 50 years to the Donks that DA is smiling and making nice with John Fox after the game. Always thought that it was strange that a division rival would be ok with letting us bring in their Defensive Coach for in interview. Now we know why Fox didn’t have a problem with DA becoming the new Raider coach.
I guess we are sucking for Geno Smith and praying that Dana Holgorsen is coming with him to take over!!

Where were the QB roll outs/naked boots? (not that I particularly like them, but we made no adjustments to the pass rush). We missed DHB today too. If our CBs are going to be beat like drums, they might as well play more physical – get closer to the line – take some chances. This game could have been 50 to 6. I thought we hired a bright, defensive minded coach. Not liking the points given up, and that’s more important than the penalties. Went to the well with Reese and McFadden plays in second half, then no McFadden. You have to work with what you have – it’s called coaching for a reason. Need to build some pride out there. Many look like they are collecting big checks. That was something that was great about the NFL/Raiders for those not around for that earlier era. It was a pleasure watching men play more for pride than $$$. Going to Atlanta. The Coca Cola museum should be a highlight!

nobody should be surprised or upset with the outcome of this game. I know nobody wants to hear it but we were screwed the min we fired hue and changed the o. our strength was supposed to be our o with our d just hanging on but now with this new o we installed were equally as bad on o as we are on d. which equals a horrible season and another year of dmacs career wasted. everybody is so happy with improvement of our penalty situation which is good but not worth sacrificing our o but we made our bed and now we must endure this top 10 pick season.

Actually, the “logic” in here says that Reggie was a multi-decade campaign to destroy the Raiders by building him up fraudulently, knowing that Mark Davis would someday hire him. This “logic” also says Denver hired DA for no other reason than knowing we’d hire him as our head guy. This was of course coordinated with Sean Payton and all of DA’s former co-workers and players giving him sterling reviews and Bill Callahan deliberately throwing that Super Bowl against the Bucs. Actually, the “logic” in here says that Reggie was a multi-decade campaign to destroy the Raiders by building him up fraudulently, knowing that Mark Davis would someday hire him. CP3 (not a system fit)will be gone. New York Jets meet your future starting QB. He will be replaced by TJ Yates (Knapp Approved). McFadden? (not a system fit). Offense sucks because DA hired Knapp who decided to change the strength of this team which was the power run. The defense seems like they are getting worse every week. I know this team went 8-8 last but if Kept Hue Jax and hired a real DC this team would be in these game and not getting blown out.

The Raiders get little productivity from the top end of the draft.
Over the last 8 years….you can point to DMAC and Houston as productive top picks over the last 10 years.
This roster was stitched together and Al Davis did what he had to find talent somewhere.
But the draft is where you get homegrown impact players….the Raiders have struck out here.

List of Things that Need to Happen (some will, most won’t):
1. Replace Carlisle with Bergstrom. Can’t be any worse.
2. Replace Kelly and Seymour with Bilukidi and Bryant. See #1.
3. Replace Knapp as the playcaller with Saunders.
4. Offer Alex Gibbs big $$$ to come in as a “Offensive Consultant”/de facto o-line coach. The ZBS can work, but Frank Pollack’s doing a horrible job teaching it.
5. Give Goodson more carries. If he produces better than DMac, give him even more carries.
6. Get Pryor on the field. Nothing against Palmer (he and the receivers have been the lone bright spots), but he won’t be around when this rebuild is done. Might as well see if TP is the quarterback of the future or not.
7. Let DA know he has another season, but we’d better seen some gawddam improvement both in the team’s preparedness and the offensive playcalling.

As for Tarver: Hard to judge when he’s stuck with Kelly and Seymour (who have turned into slugs who show up for maybe a half-dozen snaps all game) and a secondary crippled with injuries.
He was a co-DC at Stanford and DA’s fifth or sixth choice; it was either Tarver or Greg Manusky, because all of DA’s main choices (Bill Johnson, Joe Vitt Jr., etc) were denied permission to leave by their teams.
Tarver’s a bright one, but it’ll take time.

The sad reality is the raiders are gonna tank this season. I’m not in the fire DA or Big Reggie band wagon. This first few games have shown me that the raiders are just going to use this season to see who fits and who doesn’t fit. It’s sad to see a player like Dmc being ineffective due to the scheme we are playing. Like it or not peeps, Knapp might be around next year. I feel he does make some dumb play call like that stupid sweep that Miller blew up but how can you fault him when the oline is getting man handled. I mean dam, Carson is getting killed. No lose this year will surprise me. My hope for season ended in Miami. I’m still gonna watch every game but I can’t see us doing better then 8-8. 6-10 is looking like a reality. We all knew the defense needed a complete makeover from last year…some here blamed Chuck B but now the same Chuck B haters are hate’n on Tarver…
But what does Reggie do? brings in two injury prone CB’s who are 2nd tier and didn’t even last a week, then he gets rid of the only pass rusher and brings in who? Phillip Wheeler who up until today I was impressed with his all hawking, but he was no pass rusher to begin with.
He keeps those two bums Seymour and Kelly who are making out like gangbusters cashing those game checks and what else does he do? Nothing, absolutely nothing to address the defense other than Miles Burris…
What he should have done is get rid of the dead weight overpaid bums like Seymour, Kelly and that BUST of a joke McClain.
But oh well, he gets paid the big bucks, was recommended by Ron Wolf and John Madden, and won over an incompetent owner, he obviously knows what he is doing

NFL teams do NOT win without O-lines & D-lines. In our case we are deficient in both. To make matters worse, we are deficient at MLB, both CB’s & at FS. Our backup depth is non-existent across the board.
We do have some positives: our QB and back-up QB’s, RB & FB and our WR’s are talented but need experience. Our TE’s fall into the same category as the WR’s.
Coaching wise, we need a new OC & ST coordinator. Based on the above, we have at least a three year wait before becoming a real contender.

The Death Knell of this season came when the new regime decided to go with Zone-Blocking Offense, and discard the successful Power Block scheme that the organization had been drafting and building around for at least two years.
The Defense was horrible already so any improvement, without high draft picks, would have been a bonus.
Its a shame because the offense had some good pieces for power-blocking, DMAC, MOORE, CP, and a few of the OLinemen.
Rebuilding had to happen either way. It was going to take a few years but now it will have to happen faster on the O…

Bad choice to get rid of Hue and his offense. That was the strength of the team.
If Hue was kept, than all McK and Hue would have needed to do was concentrate on fixing the defense, penalties and working the cap.
As Hue said the day he was let go. He said, Davis and McK are going blow up the whole building and start all over.

Let me say this about Dennie Allen I think he has the talent to be a very good HC but YOU NEVER ALLOW a rookie HC the leverage to hire his own coaches. Why because 9-10 times he wont be able to get the coaches he wants the first time around.
Second in most cases he’s going to hire friends which is in most cases a bad move he may have to fire them. Get guys that can be HC as well to help YOU when you are up against it. THAT is how Harbaugh is WINNING the coaches he hired are in most cases smarter than HIM.
Something even Bill Walsh knew was important.

Nothing positive to take from today. Playcalling wasn’t so much the issue v.s. Miami and Pittsburgh, but it was VERY bad today. Dennis Allen is partly to blame here as he should have made the call to either challenge or go for it on 4th-and-1 while the game was still within reach.
But the defense looked lost today. Branch struggled for much of the game, but Rolando McClain, Matt Giordano, Tommy Kelly, Richard Seymour, Matt Shaughnessy, Desmond Bryant, Michael Huff, and Lamarr Houston just let Peyton do whatever he wanted to.
Again Palmer didn’t look like the main problem on offense, but a couple crucial mistakes still stung. But the WRs still aren’t separating from coverage, and the offensive line is struggling in both the passing game and the run game, especially in the middle.
The way I see it? The Raiders need to improve at MLB, CB, DE/OLB, and DT. Raiders need to find at least 4 new starters before they’re going to get anything done. Hopefully their out of “salary cap hell” next season because they’ll need the room.

I am Canadian. I have watched the nfl as long as I’ve watched the cfl. The cfl is easily a step below the nfl, given. Elite backs get some yards no matter what. Barry Sanders was famous for running for 1300 or more yards with the crapola o-lines Detroit gave him. Same thing with other great backs.

Let me say this about Dennie Allen I think he has the talent to be a very good HC but YOU NEVER ALLOW a rookie HC the leverage to hire his own coaches. Why because 9-10 times he wont be able to get the coaches he wants the first time around.
Second in most cases he’s going to hire friends which is in most cases a bad move he may have to fire them. Get guys that can be HC as well to help YOU when you are up against it. THAT is how Harbaugh is WINNING the coaches he hired are in most cases smarter than HIM.

Hue had to overcome so much adversity as a first year head coach it was crazy and he still had the team within one game of playoffs.
DA and Knapp would never be able to handle what Hue had to deal with last year and still have the team within one game of playoffs.
Hue deserved another year with a better DC.
Davis and McK blew it and now the team will suck for the next two years if not longer. Ooooff!

Man, I miss Hue Jackson’s passion. Yeah, he was power hungry, but the ONLY reason was because he wanted one thing: to win. He’s one of those once in a blue moon guys who’s willing to do whatever it takes to win. Some of you guys dog him, but several posters made a great point: DA won’t sniff 8-8 this year. And Hue had a much worse d-coordinator!
He earned at least one more year. At the very least. I do believe Mckenzie can be a good GM, but that was a killer mistake. And it’s gonna take time to get past that. Some of you complain that Hue only got to 8-8 last season… That team shouldn’t have been CLOSE to 8-8, but that man found a way to get that offense running on all cylinders and win ballgames. Even with the worst defense in the league.
Firing Hue set us back, and I hate that we whiffed on the chance at having a really good coach.

AMEN – I said it last season and I’ll say it again. Bresnahan wasnt qualified to run a HS defense. Knapp is not qualified to run a HS offense and DA is not qualified to be a Head Coach.

Guy’s here keep saying DA/Reggie had AL Davis talent to work with. What did Hue have? I tell you DA/Reggie have All the decisions to do it their way. How is it working out? D better, O better, special teams better, front office better, coaches better? Better Where?

in 1961 the houston oilers d had only 3 ints, its almost a lock they will be replaced by the 2012 bend and break d of our raiders. congrats to all involved

I repeat: The Raiders are the worst team in NFL and the AFC-W is the weakest division in the league = Raiders are the weakest team in this league.
The refs are back to their cheating, as predicted. They swallowed their whistles when it came to the Broncos penalties (holding, roughing the passer, etc.) and throwing them against the Raiders to stop drives! (Even though the Raiders would have lost without cheating officials.) As mentioned above, the Patriots are #1 again thanks to the “professionals”.
